Lieberman has been an enormous liability for the Democratic party, and when Gore picked him as running mate I was ready to bail on the party entirely. I will never understand that, and wonder if Lieberman is really a GOP plant.
He should be removed from the party or at least ignored and marginalized as much as possible. Give him a one way ticket to the GOP headquarters where he belongs.

Soldiers’ bodies found in Iraq

The U.S. military yesterday recovered the mutilated bodies of two Army privates kidnapped by terrorists Friday night from a checkpoint south of Baghdad.

The bodies were so horribly disfigured that final identification will require DNA testing. But U.S. military officials in Baghdad said the bodies, found in a booby-trapped area, were thought to be those of Pfc. Thomas Lowell Tucker, 25, and Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, although official confirmation awaited the notification of families.

“With great regret — they were killed in a barbaric way,” Iraqi Maj. Gen. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed told reporters.

[…] Liardogfake: “The Cut-And-Run 2006 Campaign” — Game On? The AP is reporting that Lieberman is weighing his options and considering whether to begin a signature campaign to get himself on the November ballot as an Independent. We always knew he had no problem planting a knife firmly in the back of the Democratic party; giving it a little twist must seem like no big deal. […]

What is even more impressive is that Lamont is running on small contributions without tapping much of his considerable fortune. Further, he has not even begun to go negative on Joe by reminding him of his fat-headed, fatuous statements as Bush’s American Poodle.

CTBob back at 44 notes the endorsement of Lamont by the CT AFT and the CT-NEA — 60 thousand CT teachers. Now — let me suggest a way to both help Lamont and remind Schumer of his actually role as head of DSCC. (His role is not to vote for the good nutmeggers in CT).

Each state has affilates of the AFT and the NEA, and in terms of the Democratic Party — it is the largest and one of the financially richest sources of campaign money. Members of these state affilates need to start messaging Schumer — making clear that they don’t want their DSCC donations to go to the candidate the CT Teachers have not endorsed, certainly not before the August Primary.

If you are a teacher and a member of either the AFT or the NEA — and if they have a message board or blog, get in and raise the question — why should Chuck Schumer’s endorsement count more than that of the teachers of CT. AFT and NEA funds should not be spent on a contested primary on behalf of the candidate the teachers of any state rejected. If your Senator is a Democrat — cc them the same message.

This is the same issue, with a lot more dollars attached as was raised with Boxer at Yearly Kos vis a vis endorsement by CT women’s organizations. Do the Good Citizens of CT have the right to a straightforward Primary vote? Yes or No. The object is less to make much publicity much more to shut down Schumer. But this is a situation where getting the material on AFT and NEA state blogs and message boards is important. Teachers outside CT can have an impact here.

Seems to me that if Joe bolts and runs as an independant it can only help Lamont in the General Election because it will split the Repugs, not the Dems.
