Oh how quickly things change. Holy Joe on April 11, 2006:
If I wanted to run as an independent, I would do it today. I don’t. I’m a Democrat. I want to run as a Democrat. I expect, with some confidence increasing as I talk to delegates, that I will be the Democratic nominee and I will win the primary.
And today:
Lieberman’s campaign contends that it’s focused only on winning the Aug. 8 primary, but the Democrat has not ruled out petitioning his way onto the November ballot as part of a backup plan to secure a fourth term in the Senate.
"I am not going to close out any options," the senator recently told reporters.
Frankly he can’t leave the party fast enough for me. He makes Democrats look like weak-kneed, flip-flopping, opportunistic, treacherous little toadies and his continued presence in the party is a huge PR hurdle.
I’m with Digby:
You don’t have to look any further than Joe Lieberman to understand why the entire world thinks Democrats are a bunch of chickenshit losers. We’re tired of being associated with someone who can’t even stand a fair fight in the Connecticut Democratic party without whining like snivelling schoolkid and threatening to take his ball and go home. Why should anyone trust such a gutless tool with the reins of government? I know I don’t. The party is on notice that this just won’t be tolerated anymore by leading Blue State Democrats.
Here’s the plan. First, the Democratic terrorists are going to kick Lieberman’s ass. After that, they are going to kick the Republican party’s ass. And finally they will kick bin Laden’s ass. We didn’t create this hard core political environment, the Republicans did, with the help of self-serving Dems like Lieberman. Now somebody has to clean up all these messes. The crazed Democratic terrorists who are willing to cast aside all morality by ruthlessly supporting a primary challenger (who is not a travelling Deadhead, but rather a middle of the road self made millionaire) seem to be the only ones who are willing to do it.
See Joe Run. Yes, that would be our collective boot heel imprint on his backside. And a fine Louboutin it is.
(Graphic by FXQ)
Upate: I checked the Joe Lieberman Weekly just to make sure they weren’t on suicide watch. Favorite comment:
I look forward to The New Republic editorial explaining why leaving the party when his own Democratic constituents reject him is yet another act of rare courage by Joe Lieberman.
I say give ‘em a week to prove that irony is completely dead.

LAMONT!!!
Joe is rapidly morphing into Bozo the clown, without the, you know, humor and comedy.
Ritardo M at Sadly, No! has a hilarious profile of Mr. Paste up. Worth a read, if only to remind us all to be grateful that we aren’t raving, reich-wing klonopin junkies with anger issues.
I don’t know how RM did the research without needing a level 4 biohazard suit, but we should be glad that he’s reading them over there, so we don’t have to read them over here.
Lamont!
Lie-berman sucks. Lamont rocks.
All Joe all the time and I love it. No one makes me smile more these days than Jane and Christy. A little off topic, but I must say Jane I loved your highlighted comment on Walcott’s blog yesterday.
I’m waiting for the righties to claim the Left is anti-semitic for going after Joe.
OReilly will do it soon, ya wanna bet?
OMG … my first unwitting EPU. The entire world seems so different now.
(EPU’d comment below)

Some fine snark on this subject from one of my favorite unsung bloggers, Sister Nancy Beth Eczema (a parodist a la Jesus’ General):
Tried to sign up at the DSCC so I could leave a snarky comment . . . . but the password they e-mailed me didn’t work. What’s up with that? They don’t like comments on their blogs?
What can we do to Schumer when he backs an Independent Lieberman over Lamont? Can someone find a Lamont in New York? IMO, Schumer is right up ther with Biden as a contender for the biggest Democratic embarrassment in the senate.
Great graphic, Jane; I think Joe’s face is starting to resemble his sphincter…
OT – Dunno if this was posted before but Chimpy ended up apologizing for the making-fun-of-the-blind incident during this morning’s presser:

T Rex,

Hey TRex – congrats: cbl reports that your Wankette Late Nite Piece-o-work got linked at Raw Story
Melissa @11, you aren’t the only one with that problem … see last thread for help, basically “try again” worked for some
It seems to me that when a politician blackmails his own party, saying that he’ll sabotage his primary challenger if he doesn’t get the nomination, he forfeits any support from the party.
As soon as Lieberman started making noises about running as an independent, the powerbrokers in the party should have rallied around Lamont.
Swopa, perfectly said. The EPU zone is its own universe.
Jane!!!!
Digby!!!!
After laughing my ass off, I had to run for the dictionary to figure out WTF a Louboutin was…silly peasant that I am. Thanks for the chuckle.
I keep saying to myself, over and over, win or lose, we will keep on fighting for our country. Lamont will hopefully win the primary and win a Senate seat. But if not, he will come mighty close. And all the media knowitalls will call us ‘over’. But we will not be (I hope). Because this is indeed a righteous battle. And if we end up in Valley Forge for the long winter of our discontent, then let us cross the river and fight again. And again.
Kos spoke of not minding what they say about us. the dems went wrong because they care what the neocons say — when you are right on the issues, do not second guess.
Recently I had a chance one-on-one to talk with my son personally about the tragedy that hit him, his children, and all of us. I mentioned to him that there is only one direction in life — and that is forward. Unsure of the path? Pick one and correct later if necessary. Put keep moving. If Howard Dean can find a new path when the original plan failed, then so can we.
O.K. End of Rant.
I aw willing to bet cold hard cash that Leiberman’s Indy petitions have already been printed.
COWARD!

Bwaak, bwaak, bwaak!
From DemocracyNow (6/14/06) Greg Palast interview:
…Back in 1927, the entire nation changed when the levees of New Orleans broke and New Orleans was drowned. This entire nation %u2013 it was a Republican era, Republican Congress, Republican President. Business was in charge of everything, then New Orleans’ levees broke. And %u2013
AMY GOODMAN: The great flood of 1927.
GREG PALAST: The great flood of 1927. When the floodwaters hit Louisiana, one guy %u2013 and Democrats were saying nothing except, ‘Balance the budget.’ One Democrat stood up on the back of a flatbed truck, grabbed the Internet of the day, which was the radio. He was the first guy to use radio. He grabbed the radio microphone and said, “This is it. The rich are drowning us. The rich don’t pay for our schools. The rich are leading us into their wars for oil.” %u2013 At that time, by the way — “The rich will not give us social security for old age. They are not protecting us or providing infrastructure. They are not saving us from deadly work, and they’re letting the oil companies and the banks control this nation, and we have got to end it. We’re going to take this nation back. We’re going to share the wealth. Join with me.” And there was a huge national uprising.
Huey Long created something called “Share the Wealth clubs.” And it went like a prairie fire, man. It was explosive. And the Democratic Party itself got scared to death. And I hate to say it, two things happened. First, they assassinated Huey Long, who had become governor of Louisiana and was heading towards the White House, but then Franklin Roosevelt, a very weak governor, conservative governor of New York, conservative Democrat, suddenly said %u2013 took on Huey’s spirit, kind of, and said, ‘Okay, because we’re going to lose this country, and even the billionaires are going to lose their billions.’ And so, it was not that we had a great man. This is a new myth that we had a great man, F.D.R. What we did was, we had a great movement that found F.D.R., and F.D.R. found the movement, and that changed America. It’s 1927 again, Amy. It could be.
TRex- did you see my email today? I apologized if needs be for my comment about “screwdrivers” last nite, which in the cold light of day seemed open to grave misinterpretation! xxoo
*ilson Service Desk needs your expertise.
So then he’s Joe “The Loser” Lieberman is he? Joe Loserman? As in “Dear Sen Schumer All are greatly puzzled why the Democratic Party is committed to Joe “The Loser”–who threatens to abandon the party if he feels he can’t win the nomination–while you seem to have no commitment to the will of ordinary Democrats. … Can it be that the Party has some great scheme that we, the people, are too stu…, hmmm, not able to comprehend?…”
I’ve read that Joe actually has a good “votes with Democrats” percentage, but it ain’t the amount, it’s the quality and the timing.
lhp 22
Not only are they probably printed, the CT repubs are getting ready to circulate them and collect the sigs.
What say we?
Bring it on!
I have a thought about a 2010 primary challenger for Schumer — Eric Massa, the Fightin’ Dem (and I do mean fightin’) who will be US Congressman from NY 25 in 2006, and hold the seat in 2008. He electrified everyone who saw him at YKos.
egregious #23:
You must be a riot at sporting events.
That graphic is wonderful.
*ilson– you are so cool, you have a blinking bolding on the end of the last thread!!!!!!!!
Two new Clusterfuck polls out.
Survey USA says that Clusterfuck is at 37% approval- up 4 points from previous poll
NBC/WSJ says he’s at 37% also- but that’s only a one point increase from previous polling.
His numbers on Iraq are better
But goopers are falling further behind dems in the generic ballot- now trailing by 11 points.
Still thinking about the Shumer/Lieberman thingy.
Part of this narrative, Jane, is about you. Noy by name, but about this blog and these images and how the “Lieberman is toast” meme is spreading. It is such a strong message — sounds so true — that I think Lieberman himself has internalized it.
Shumer’s role is not so much to prop up Joe, and all due respect to your last great post, not just to shill for incumbants. His role is to be the Democrat alpha dog. The power broker, king maker, — in a word majority leader.
But Shumer has a problem. In his fight with Reid, he might win a lot of Wall Street and corporate backing, true. But he is on the other side of the netroots. Reid is on one side — he is trying to work with this new thing, trying to come to us as a representative (with his own ideas to be sure, but still as a man who believe that politics is a dialogue). Shumer wants to dominate us, cow us, beat us back into money-giving submission.
Two styles, two choices. I wonder who will win?
LP – no way I’d take that bet. I’m sure he’s already got them in the hands of his evil legions of lobotomized Lieberbots, just waiting for the signal from his secret mountain lair to collect their heinous signatures.
lhp–have you been checked out for malaria? Serious.

That’s exactly how it was intended. But the part about “get your facts straight” was what I worried about. It was a joke, but might not have come off that way. TRex is pure genius.

Ahem. While I hae [scottish] been known to make SOME noise at sporting events :) my primary role there is to sing solo, rather well, the National Anthem. It still makes me cry, maybe even more so now that our nation is in danger.
Our nation: HELP
Never mind, found him:

I got the joke, I was emailing the TRex piece around today — totally cracked me up this morning. By the way, your tomatos survived the 13.5! inches of rain we have had over the last two weeks. More details as the fruit sets.

Uploaded some more of the YKos pics that op99 sent me last night. Pach asked that he not be shown. Honored. There are more, but I gotta go through ‘em and clean ‘em up / re-size ‘em (bandwidth, ya, know). Got a contractor coming to the house momentarily, so I’ll go through more later…

CT Bob- Do you know if the Lamont campaign is well organized for the primary (in the case that Joe doesn’t bolt before)- phoning to establish likely pro-Lamont voters, means to follow up to remind them to vote, provide transportation on the day if needed, etc?
Looks like Joe has just signed his own eviction notice from the party.
It’s up to the netroots community to ensure that it is enforced.
Anybody who sings the National Anthem that well deserves a special place in all our hearts.
However, if you’re in L.A. sometime and want to bring the Bwaak, bwaak, bwaak! to a game, please let me know!
Trex,
I read your Wonkette piece. Are you sure you aren’t a snarkosaurus?
Imm– oh! thanks for the update on the tomatos! And, that TRex piece was brilliant, wasn’t it? Actually, I didn’t laugh quite as hard at that one as I did the Matatron goes long (which had me gasping for breath) bec. the AMC post was “almost” believeable.
Oh, thank you BobbyG! You are the greatest!
Pach asked that he not be shown. Honored.
you mean, after all these reports about Pach being a hottie, I don’t get to see him? DAMMIT!!!
al-Scooter, I would like to bring the CHICKEN coward bwaak stuff to ConnectiCUT and RUN, thank you punaise.
newtonusr #46:
KGB Chicken means you and I both go back a ways!
I think it’d be classic. Joe’s already so stiff, he’s practically in the hearse as we speak. A stunt like this might just put the remaining rivets in his political coffin, no?
Paul 55 –
Just more incentive to get there in person next yr.
Pach is totally hot. Alas I am female and thus ineligible by his standards :(

“I am not going to close out any options,” the senator recently told reporters.
Does that include the nuclear option?
He sure sounds like his puppet-masters.
VG,
I thought the brilliance was that it could have neen real…. Some poster last night/this morning was complaining (wwaaah) about how TRex’s post wasn’t funny and didn’t we have more important things to do and worry about.
I sent him Margaret’s phone number.
What is it with FDL? They only send the sanctimonious trolls? Why is that?
Self-luvin’ Joe is such an insipid dolt that he doesn’t realize that the only reason republicans like him is that he is so bad for democrats. If he bolts the democratic party he will not only be independent, he will be quite alone. CT voters would be nuts to vote for him.
.
Digby says that we don’t have to look farther than Joe. What does that say about Schumer and the Old Oligarchs club at the DSCC?
In baseball, we have a saying, “Addition by subtraction”.
Lieberman leaving the Democratic caucus to join the Republican will increase the average intelligence in both.
angie: it was a centered. emboldened and blinking “new thread” — I have a memory for officially deprecated HTML tags … frankly, I’m expecting a super-moderator to edit down my flashiness…
Thanks, BobbyG. How do you like having shit smeared all over your face, Pach? BG’s idea, not mine!

OT: but something I want to share, for what its worth.
One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given in my life, was to “believe in myself”.
Believe in my own capacity to look at the road ahead, and do my honest best, and know that good will come.
Thats the simplest kind of faith, and its very powerful.
Looking back, I recall a lecture on the idea of society, community and liturgy, and was astonished to learn that liturgy
(leitourgi) means “the work of the people” or “public service”.
Worship in this sense was people giving homage to whatever it is that is worthy or worthwhile, whatever it is that gives value to human life.
Liturgy and worship in the universal sense of human experience are that, believing in oneself, and sharing the experience of doing one’s best.
Or even of not doing ones best, and hoping to do better.
So here we are, huddling along the threads and commentary of this blog, firedoglake, and others like it, hoping for a glimmer of truth and justice
and those things we collectively find ‘worthy’ in human society.
I don’t know how rocky the road ahead is going to be, but I just want to say, keep the faith.
My apologies for the sentimental post, for the possibly unwelcome personal reflection, and for being off-topic.
For what its worth, I want to give something genuine to you all, whose company and insight I value.
Good night.
op99 !!!!
The Very Idea. I simply grabbed the smudge tool. Jeesh…

(though I though about cropping in someone else’s face, but I’m pressed for time tonight)
it’s simply mahvelous looking, *ilson!

Ever hear the Zappa tune “Flakes”?
did you see the note I left for you over at your place ?
Indeed I did! Picked up by Raw Story and Crooks and Liars! I am edging ever closer to being so famous that I have to pretend not to know myself.
VG-Sorry I haven’t had a chance to answer your email today. No offense was taken, dear! You’re my homegirl!
Hopefully not hanging out with our contractors in “gotcha land”, BobbyG. ;(
Pach,
So wuts the deal?? Even your “real name” at YKos were initials. You some sorta wheel operating covertly? I don’t guess you can give a real straight answer like what do you do and who do you do it for. Are you just intensly private basking in the white hot light of the blogosphere dwarf star pre-supernova?? I’ve puzzled over this somewhat. Anyway, I’m prolly gonna have to do some local trolling for Okie netrooters. I seem to have a husband/wife team that is going to be a HUGE help with what they offer. Any newbies that I plow up, should I run them through the google groups?
I think we need a pseudonym for Schumer.
My submission is Chuckle.
The guy is a total joke.
Being a New Yawker, I get to view his pedantic intros at parades, ball-games, etc. Truly an idiot. His charisma score is a negative, and I cringe everytime he is “the face” of the Dems.
Anyway, Chuckle is a joke. Always will be.
Ned’s 10 times the man he is.

If my job would
Somehow be finished by Friday
Well, the whole damn weekend

[Wanna buy some mandies, Bob?]
‘N’they didn’t do nothin’
But they charged me double for Sunday
You know, no matter what you do
They gonna cheat ‘n’ rob you

And if you do not pay
They got computer collectors
That’ll get you so crazy
Til your head’ll go through th’ ceilin’
Yes it will!
I’m a moron ‘n’ this is my wife
She’s frosting a cake
With a paper knife
All what we got here’s
American made
It’s a little bit cheesey,
But it’s nicely displayed
Well we don’t get excited when it
Crumbles ‘n’ breaks
We just get on the phone
And call up some Flakes
They rush on over
‘N’ wreck it some more
‘N’ we are so dumb
They’re linin’ up at our door
Well, the toilet went crazy
Yesterday afternoon
The plumber he says
“Never flush a tampoon!”
This great information
Cost me half a week’s pay
And the toilet blew up
Later on the next day ay-eee-ay
Blew up the next day WOO-OOO
We are millions ‘n’ millions
We’re coming to get you
We’re protected by unions
So don’t let it upset you
Can’t escape the conclusion
It’s probably God’s Will
That civilization
Will grind to a standstill
And we are the people
Who will make it all happen
While yer children is sleepin’,
Yer puppy is crappin’
You might call us Flakes
Or something else you might coin us
But we know you’re so greedy
That you’ll probably join us
We’re comin’ to get you, we’re comin’ to get you

op99 7.44 and your point is ?????
EPU is the handle of a long- time poster here; it stands for Evil Parallel Universe. This poster often posted a comment at the tail end of a thread where it would be never seen. Then when it is reposted at the beginning of the next thread– one calls it as such. ergo, EPU.
Hope this somewhat lame attempt helps!

Hahhahaaaaa.
Pach- now that YOU’ve said it, I’ll agree about Matt O.- just got an idea of what a dish he is from the pic BobbyG posted. Wowza! If Matt O. ends up going for politics/elected office (he’s got a lot of choices), being tall dark and handsome isn’t gonna get in his way At All!!!
Running for office, my platform would be:
Domestic policy: the Constitution
Foreign policy: the Geneva Conventions
Alas, the last time I ran for public office was 20 years ago. But with success as a write-in candidate! I highly recommend any of my fellow amateurs considering what to do: go ahead! run for office. Can you seriously be worse than the folk that are currently there?
Pach,
That’s just what a superdooper secret agent would say!! Did you get my netroots question?
BobbyG,
Thanks for posting those photos. Jane is a shiny porchlight and attracts the best looking junebugs. Sorry I had to cut out so early, just barely got to meet some people.
Jane
Thank you for providing unvarnished info on current political events. I have no time to read between the lines and try to figure out who is trying to screw who (whom?) OFG: Missed the netroots question. Can you repeat?
Pach 101 — you’re right, that’s what it was.
I wish Skippy was around, I’m doing another YK post for late nite an I don’t know if he’d be comfortable with me putting up that photo or not, otherwise I would.
Apparently I’m not the only one who had absolutely had no idea what a “Louboutin” is. Yet another scramble to the dictionary.
I am in awe of your vocabulary Jane.
I’m just trying to think ahead a little, imagining the world in which Joementum wins an independent bid for Senate. In the only case Reid and Schumer are thinking about, he ends up as the deciding vote for majority leader.
So taking that seriously for a moment: Joementum is going to have a boatload of leverage. He’s going to ask for and get whatever committee assignment he wants. And then he’s going to be, as a practical matter, either the most or the second most prominent Democrat in the MSM.
The Schumer strategy is inviting that scenario; practically single-handedly turning Joementum from FNC’s Favorite Democrat to The Ubiquitous Democrat. Does Schumer really think that’s in his own interest?
If Lieberman loses the primary, isn’t their true interest in ensuring Lamont wins? Wouldn’t that just be about a million times better for them, than elevating Holy Joe into a powerful dissenting voice? Wouldn’t that be worth the risk of pissing Lieberman off and then having him win?
Really, I’m confused here.
BTW I was skeptical about the Lamont thing at first, but you were right, I was wrong. Blessed be the Jane Hamshers of the Left!
PPS Problems with preview, so my apologies if there’s something screwed up here…

The country has been in a constitutional crisis since the impeachment of Clinton. Since then we have had the dubious 2000 and 2004 elections, the misleading of Congress in the run up to the Iraq War, torture, secret prisons, Gitmo, signing statements, NSA wiretapping, and the general use of Article II and the AUMF to justify an unchecked unitary executive. During this time, not only have the media been asleep or coopted but the Democrats have been out to lunch, hoping that Republican excesses and not their principled opposition would bring them down. For DINOs like Shumer, Lieberman, Hillary, Feinstein, Biden, and many others, it has not been a time to go to the barricades it has been business as usual. They still act as if Bush is just another President and the give and take between parties is as it has always been. It’s not and this is why the old pol’s actions of Shumer and the other DINOs is so discordant. The country is in danger. They above all others because of their high office have the duty and responsibility to confront the danger that is Bush but they steadfastly act like it’s not there and not their problem. Instead they continue to play their insider political games: dissing the new blood and saving a place at the table for the old warhorse and hasbeen.

BAD RELIGION LYRICS
“Los Angeles Is Burning”
Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of a blue
St. Anne’s skirts are billowing
but down here in the city of the lime lights
the fans of Santa Ana are withering
and you can’t deny that living is easy
if you never look behind the scenery
it’s showtime for dry climes
and bedlam is dreaming of rain
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
palm trees are candles in the murder wind
so many lives are on the breeze
even the stars are ill at ease
and Los Angeles is burning
This is not a test
of the emergency broadcast system
where Malibu fires and radio towers
conspire to dance again
and I cannot believe the media Mecca
they’re only trying to peddle reality,
catch it on prime time, story at nine
the whole world is going insane
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
palm trees are candles in the murder wind
so many lives are on the breeze
even the stars are ill at ease
and Los Angeles is burning
A placard reads
“the end of days”
Jacaranda boughs are bending in the haze
More a question than a curse
how could hell be any worse?
The flames are stunning
the cameras running
so take warning
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
palm trees are candles in the murder wind
so many lives are on the breeze
even the stars are ill at ease
and Los Angeles is burning
I think these are all the lyrics. You would have to ask Jane, of course.
You know, after watching the Plame panel, the guy I really want to meet is Murray Waas. Now I doubt by criteria applied here, he’d qualify as a “hottie”, but appeal is very subjective.

Elliot Spitzer is no more anti-Iraq war than Hillary Clinton. Clinton’s progressive primary challenger is Jonathan Tasini (who blogs and is blogged about at HuffPo).
He’s got good politics but nothing like the resources or charisma of Lamont. More importantly, Hillary is not clearly enough defined in the minds of most Democrats (much less others) as a DINO, in contrast to Lieberman. I support Tasini because he’s right, and because Clinton deserves as big a scare as New York progressives can humanly manage on primary day.

Amen Prairie. And any Dem who cannot respond to the “if Murtha had his way” with “If President Bush had learned to listen to people at the CIA like Scheuer, Zarqawi would have been taken care of before the Iraq war — golly, guess if Zaraqawi was the objective we could have skipped the 500 bill war and the 2500 dead American soldiers. Republicans are good at those one syllable soundbites – you know, the ones. Or I guess maybe just the ONE.
It goes: “ooops”
look, lieberman is a republican, he made believe he was a democrat so he could win in a democrat state
he can’t run as a republican becuase he won’t win as a republican, he can only win if he gets some democratic vites
of COURSE he’s going to run if he doesn’t get the nomination, he’s not about protecting the democratic party, he’s about diluting the democratic caucus
we need him out of the democratic party…if it means he runs as an independant and he wins, we lost absolutely nothing
I’m with Jane. He can’t leave the party fast enough for me. He’s spent the last six years dicking us over, and now he whining because we don’t want to vote for him. Just GO already. And take William Jefferson with you.

Hey Pach –
I’m working up a plan for a MySpace viral voter registration drive, using Lamont CT as a proof-of-concept model — Matt O is onboard; Howie Klein can help with the “pull” . . .
Long term (late summer) goal, is a proof-of-concept pitch to Howard Dean and the DNC: to revitalize Young Dems and College Dems — but proof-of-concept comes first.
But in the meantime, I need a gmail account, and an invite from an existing user — can you help?

Hi, guys, just stopping for a minute, took a ride down the Pacific Coast Highway for a picnic today, having fun with the boyos. Far, far behind in my news, but getting the gist.
I boldly walked right up to the lovely Matt O. and, stupidly (and typically) asking him if he was “Mark O.”, gave him a motherly kiss on the cheek and told him how wonderful I think he is. I still feel like an idiot, sorry, Matt.
TRex, I think it’s time to send some of this great work to Comedy Central. Jon Stewart should know about you. Laughed till I cried over the Wonkettarina piece.

VG, ’cause she called him MARK, lol.
op99- OH! I guess I should read more carefully. But maybe Matt has a brother named Mark (??) and he’s used to it. I’ll have to ask him.
Sometimes you search for words to describe Bush and the only thing that really applies is “retard”.
As noted in Froomkin’s column today: Bush “noted he wasn’t afraid of the prime minister (al-Maliki) personally: “[W]hen he walked in, I didn’t fear.”
Okay……
F also quotes Terence Hunt on how Bush referred to the Iraqi cabinet members by their jobs – as “oil guy”, “reconciliation person”, “defense minister”, “the electricity man”, and a “lady member of the cabinet”.
Is he five years old? Seriously, we need to cut him open and count the rings.

Joe Conason pointed out something I had forgotten. McCain & Lieberman sponsored senate bill for 911 Commission. McCain said then “Without their unstinting support & efforts, we would not be where we are today.” Where are John”s & Joe’s statements on sweet Ann’s vicious trashing of the 911 widows???
If anything good can come out of seeing Ann having diarrhea of the mouth all over msm, I hope it will clearly identify to sleeping americans who condones Ann’s kind of rhetoric, who remains silent, & who up front denounces it.
Lieberman’s treason is on the radio news every hour here in CT. It is now a self-fulfilling thing.
Yeah, I can see that campaign: ‘Vote for Joe: Who Cares If His Own Party Didn’t?’
I appreciated the link to Jerry Brown’s ‘92 campaign. Brought back some fun memories of my college days and the first presidential race I was eligible to vote in. I voted for Brown in the primaries that year because I loved his anti-establishment, protesting spirit, though I quickly jumped on board with Clinton when he was the nominee. Reading Brown’s bio, his stances don’t seem too out there now (other than that flat tax stuff).
If there’s a three-way race for the CT senate seat in November, it would be terrible to lose this seat currently held by a Democrat to a Republican. But as I’ve thought since the 2004 election, Republican-leaning Democrats like Lieberman need to be challenged and given notice by progressives, even if means losing an election to the Republicans. There need to be consequences for people like Holy Joe. In this example, not only does he lose the election, but he coughs up the seat to the other party.
deep epu here, but:
just called schumer’s office which wouldn’t discuss the matter and referred me to the dscc who i then called. they won’t take a position and are claiming lieberman is still running as a democrat and it’s all speculation at this point. i asked how this is even an issue given the roll of the dscc to elect democrats to the senate. he said the senator was still undecided on the matter and thanked me for calling. i replied that even being undecided was outrageous and i’d be witholding money until he supported the democratic winner.
i then called back schumer’s office and told the previous staffer who wouldn’t discuss campaign matters that schumer’s answer on this matter transcended electoral issues and called his loyalty to the party into question. i finished by telling her i am a strong schumer supporter from brooklyn and would hate to see this blow up in his face which is what going to happen here if he doesn’t get on the right side of this.
For someone who’s opposed the Democratic Party since the mid nineties, it’s fascinating to see the radical transformation of it from a centrist to a hardline leftist party as evidenced by Lieberman’s intraparty woes. Does anyone remember Liebermania, that he was hailed as a hero for giving new life to Gore’s floundering ‘00 campaign? For that matter, does anyone remember that he was the Veep candidate in ‘00, and that Gore and Lieberman were once very close together politically? And guess which one moved, taking much of the party base with him. Not only that, but this shift comes at about the same time that the GOP has shifted the other way, welcoming liberals such as Lincoln Chaffee and Arlen Specter–begrudgingly, of course–as a necessary component of a governing coalition.
I don’t think that this is really good for the Democrats, not in the long run. Even now, they can only hope for Republicans to lose, rather than for Democrats to win. Simply put, anger buttressed by a rear-gaurd politicking does not an agenda make.
OF COURSE, Republicans being polled on whether they would vote for Joe should he run as an Independent, say YES. But does anyone REALLY believe that when in that booth, they are going to pull any lever other than for the Republicans. What a great way for them to split up the ticket with false promises that they would vote for Joe ! But Joe’s campaign is obviously too stupid to know that.
Anyone who hasn’t contacted DSCC yet,
you can email: info@dscc.org,
Put Att: Schumer.
Say you are not giving one more dime until they make it clear they will back ONLY Democrats this upcoming election.
And that they better come out and say they will back whichever candidate wins the August Primary in CT. They are making calls right now for funds! Be ready !
After you make Lieberman an example of the “will of the people” can you please take down Dianne Feinstein? She is the female equivalent of Lieberman.
As of yesterday, Lieberman has NOT filed with the Secretary of State’s office for a petition. He needs to file with the CT Secretary of State to get the valid petition.
Help us find out when Lieberman has filed by calling the Secretary of State’s office. The Legislation and Elections Administration Division contact info is phone: 860-509-6100. EMail: lead@po.state.ct.us .
Check out Democracy For America’s Open Letter to the Beltway Dems. They just put up a petition to encourage the DSCC to support whoever wins the Democratic Primary—the way that primary elections are supposed to work. DFA Chair Jim Dean will personally deliver the signatures to Joe Lieberman. It’s already all over Daily Kos and MyDD, not to mention Hotline News and Raw Story. Take a second to add your name!
HRC responds to an email I sent to them. Comments and thoughts welcome.

Subject: Lieberman Endorsement
Thank you for sharing your questions and concerns regarding HRC’s endorsement of Senator Joe Lieberman. Here is additional information on our decision to endorse Senator Lieberman.
Connecticut Senate Race
HRC PAC Endorses Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman for 2006 Re-Election
The Human Rights Campaign Political Action Committee (PAC) has endorsed Senator Joe Lieberman because of his strong support of equality and demonstrated leadership on issues of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
What factors does HRC weigh in making endorsement decisions?
HRC’s PAC makes an endorsement only after in-depth analysis of candidates’ support for GLBT equality, leadership on equality issues and viability. HRC favors incumbent members with positive records on GLBT issues.
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. HRC focuses exclusively on issues that affect the GLBT community and issues related to HIV/AIDS. HRC looks at the totality of each candidate’s stands on GLBT and AIDS issues, such as employment fairness, hate crime prevention, relationship recognition, fairness for our families, open service in the military, etc.
Where does Joe Lieberman stand on GLBT issues?
Senator Lieberman has stood for fairness for the GLBT community through his public service, beginning with his early advocacy for workplace protections based on sexual orientation in the mid-1970s. In his time in the U.S. Senate, Lieberman has:
voted and spoken out against the Federal Marriage Amendment on the Senate floor in both 2004 and 2006;
been one of the lead cosponsors of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act since its introduction. He has continuously spoken out in favor of this bill, has voted for it, and has worked to secure cosponsors from his Senate colleagues;
spoken out and worked with HRC to shed light on the issue of Bush appointee Scott Bloch’s unilateral roll-back of protections for federal workers based on sexual orientation. He brought up Bloch’s actions in the Government Affairs Committee, on which he is the ranking member;
adopted a non-discrimination policy that says his office will not discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression;
supported in the past, and this year is the lead sponsor of a bill to provide domestic partnership healthcare benefits and other benefits for 1.4 million federal employees;
voted for the Hate Crimes Prevention Act several times, and continues to support a sexual orientation and gender identity and expression-inclusive version;
worked with HRC and civil rights allies to ensure that faith-based initiatives do not undermine state protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression;
supported all benefits of marriage through civil unions, including support of Connecticut’s extensive civil union coverage;
said he believes federal benefits should apply to Massachusetts marriages;
supported HRC’s position on adoption, saying “I believe that judicial authorities should be able to make adoption decisions solely on the basis of the child’s best interests and that sexual orientation should not be a bar to adoption”;
voted against the codification of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy of the U.S. military that bans open service of gay persons;
supported increased funding for the Ryan White CARE Act, the massive block grant funding program for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care;
cosponsored the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which would allow low-income persons to access anti-viral drugs as soon as they test positive for HIV;
voted with HRC on needle exchange programs, a science-based, proven HIV prevention measure;
voted with HRC on numerous Boy Scouts-related issues, standing each time for fairness; and
been pro-choice and was endorsed by Planned Parenthood Federation of America for re-election in 2006.
Did Lieberman make anti-gay statements?
Some blogs have incorrectly reported that Senator Lieberman made negative comments about the morality of homosexuality. Lieberman did not make such statements, and they were not reported in any newspaper.

Is this true?
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..t-support/
You endorsed that repugnican in “liberal” clothing? I can only think that your “reasoning” was that, gosh, he’s a democrat. What in the world was your reasoning?
Why not endorse W? Or Dick and his dizzy daughter? Sure. She’s gay, she’s gotta be OK! Joe’s a Dem! Gotta be good, eh?
Of course there was one famous gay man with AIDS who died some time ago. And for some reason, I can’t seem to bring a tear to my eye for him. For so many others that have died that tore my heart to shreds, somehow knowing that Roy Cohn was a “homosexual” who died of AIDS elicits little but the most minimal sympathy.
I don’t have much faith in organizations that endorse individuals who have represented nothing but the same vile, vindictive platitudes as the majority of the repugnican party has.
Please, get out to where ever you are shopping these days and purchase a grip. Your organization certainly does not represent me.
