As many of you know, I recently lived out every publisher’s fantasy. I got to call Glenn Greenwald and tell him that his book, How Would a Patriot Act? would debut this week on the New York Times list.
This ranking, in and of itself, is not what rocks my world. The prestige factor I can take or leave. I am not in book publishing because I want to sit in an ivory tower or a Manhattan skyscraper and pat myself on the back as I decree what you should read. Frankly, I’d just as soon save the trees, and be drinking margaritas on a beach somewhere. “George who?” is what I dream of saying. I’m only publishing books right now because, like Glenn, I felt compelled to use whatever talent and knowledge I could muster to defend my country. And as long as the Congress, courts and media continue to fail miserably at keeping this president accountable to the people of the United States, we must all answer the call to right the course of this nation.
What does excite me about this NYT nod, however, is that Glenn’s ideas will now have a fair shot of being heard—perhaps even a shot at impacting the national debate over just how radical the Bush administration has become, and what we can do to bring the country back from brink of despotism.
We’ve all pulled off an amazing, collaborative feat. Getting a book developed, written, edited, published and distributed in three months was our charge. You all then made it an immediate bestseller. That’s the good news. The bad news? We’re not done yet. The ideas in the book still need to be introduced to more Americans. The new challenge is to keep the book front and center, so that mainstream media outlets are forced to devote space and time to Glenn’s insights and analysis, to allow for a robust public debate on the crisis we all face. If anything is to change, more Americans need to know the objective facts about just how extremist our federal government has become, and what is at stake.
On Sunday, FDL hosted a wonderful book salon about How Would a Patriot Act? and we started to discuss ideas for a citizen-led, collaborative marketing campaign to drive Glenn’s ideas into the national discourse. Jane invited me back to continue the discussion. So, here I am—grateful and inspired. Ideas for this campaign all came out of Sunday’s discussion, and I look forward to your further suggestions and improvements.
The Patriot Campaign
- Blog project to push NYT, WaPo, LATimes, Time, Newsweek and other major dailies and weekly journals to review HWAPA.
- “Inviting” local and regional dailies to review HWAPA as a net-roots project. Would provide a nice feedback loop, because we can keep score of which of the dailies in the U.S. have published a review and which we have to “invite” even more cordially. Note: Many newspapers hire freelancers to write book reviews — the net-roots can call on the journalists among us (former and otherwise) to write reviews of Glenn’s book, which can then be offered to the newspapers. It makes the editors’ jobs that much easier.
- Email campaign to push Olbermann, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Today, Meet the Press, Hard Ball and Oprah to invite Glenn on as a guest, to discuss his transpartisan ideas on what must be done to protect our Constitution.
- Roots Project, perhaps with libertarian group(s), to deliver copies of HWAPA to members of Congress.
- Citizen reviews on book retail and review sites like Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Borders, Powell’s, BookSense, BookBrowse, BooksWeLike, etc.
- Donate books to libraries.
Tag! You’re it. Let’s run with this thing. We can make sure Glenn’s ideas get a fair hearing, and pave the way for more new voices and ideas to be heard. WE can tell media what THEY should be covering. And just maybe save our democracy, to boot!

Good to see you again Jennifer!
Great idea about donating books to the library. I noticed even the Seattle Public Library has no listing for Glenn’s book–now I can take care of that myself! :)
Here’s another one to add to your list.
Write letters to the editor, and make reference to HWAPA as a part of your letter. The occasion for the letter could be anything - Iraq, Plame, or some local political event - but tie your comments in to HWAPA. It might be “This is a great example of what Glenn Greenwald was talking about in . . . ” or “This is what Glenn Greenwald is warning us about in . . .”
The New York Review of Books, as fine a place as it might be, is not read by everyone. On the other hand, lots and lots of folks read the local letters to the editor, just to see what the neighbors are riled up about. If HWAPA starts to get some traction there, then we’re really making progress.
Enough well written letters might even prompt a book review editor to go looking for it. “Hmmm . . . what’s this book that folks are talking about?”
OT but just as important: I finally saw Al Gore’s movie this week. It is fantastic! I was a bit worried it might be boring, or depressing, but it is neither. It is entertaining and inspiring. It is a must-see. It will change the way you think AND act.
I particularly recommend taking children over the age of 10. This will affect them much more than it will affect us.
Oh, and try and persuade anyone that wouldn’t normally go to this movie to go! It’s really far too important an issue to let people just live in denial. Go for it!
*ilson, I’ll see your Zenker, and raise you a Franklin and a Bache!

Hi Jennifer –
Insty book publishing bright idea of the day —
Whiskey Bar — the Best of Billmon.
Whether the latest to the oldest or the other way around, Billmon is one of the best writers on the internets.
Interesting idea?
Jennifer, you are such an inspiration to me and I love the way you write.
Would love to join you and all progressives on a beach somewhere in this beautiful country muttering into your newest publication, George who?
whew– that did not come out as I wanted it to– I want to mutter George who? while reading whatever it is you decide to publish after we are all free from this terrible nightmare.
That’s a really good additional idea, peterr (at #6).
I’m 2/3′ds of the way through Greenwald’s book, and it’s excellent. Especially with the inclusion of such up-to-date sources. Plus, he does a great job of bringing together non-partisan issues that show how the Bush administration is abusing our system, and how the administration claims authority but is afraid to face any open challenge.
Not to belittle the subject, but Bush is like a pampered bully.
Reporting in from Vegas — sorry for the front page mess, we’re working on it.
Pach sure is a handsome devil.
Great post, Jen!
Jennifer–terrific work bringing this book to fruition in such a short period of time. Having it go to #1 on amazon is sweet.
Would like to comment on each of the 6 items. My attempt to do this was eaten alive by some gremlin. Will retry.
Citizen marketing - I missed last Sunday’s salon but I like the ideas that emerged. I addition to - or in lieu of - the donation of books to libraries, I encourage everyone with a library card to go online and request Glenn’s book. If you patronize more than one library, so much the better.
You can go a step further and make it easy for others to do the same: Post the “request a book” link to your local library, along with Glenn’s book particulars to your local community’s progressive listserv(s) and/or blog(s).
It’s my experience that libraries will order additional copies when the wait for existing volumes is significant.
waving to the Jane Hamsher of the Left - wishing you a kick ass YKOS ! Oh,and you can forget that ol “stays in Vegas” thingy
we are receiving the most excellent of care
Hiya Jane– have fun!
1. Reviews in major papers. Do we need contacts there, or is the idea to blogswarm? I’m thinking honey here not flies.
2. Local and regional papers, need freelancers. Calling all fdl writers and wannabe writers! We need you! It would be helpful to have links posted for those of us who are
lazyin need of motivation to send these out.to be continued. heehee my first strikeout
3. Email TV programs. Again need links, suggest providing one per day over the requisite period of time for maximum effect. Lots of us are ready to jump in if you make it easy.
4. Roots delivery to Congress: we are the experienced Congressional book deliverers. Just say the word and we are all over this.
to be continued.
egregious — you hit a strike-out home run!!!
5. Citizen reviews on amazon etc. Again we need links, one per day. How hard can this be? If I can do it, truly anyone can. For inspiration about a total amateur jumping in, see the first spotlight review on amazon, and thanks in advance for recommending it with a yes :)
6. Library project: how? Am VERY interested in this. I’ve only done overseas book projects. How does it work, do you just order a book and arrange to have it mailed to library x? Is it necessary or advisable to alert the library in advance? Ready for marching orders.
Sorry to split up but my original attempt at the whole 6 wouldn’t even preview let alone submit. Thanks Jennifer and YAY Glenn for this terrific book!!
BTW–thanks SO MUCH for all the postings from YKos! Please keep ‘em coming–then if we sit under a heat lamp and inhale the contents of a vacuum cleaner bag we can pretend we’re REALLY there! LOL
Oscarmom– ROTFLMAO!
Oscarsmom — that is after you dump your purse into the garbage disposal…
egregious–re: donating a copy to the library:
At the Seattle PL site I filled out the form to request the book, and in the comments section told them I’d be willing to donate a copy if they would specify the kind they need–is there a special library binding they require, etc.. Hopefully someone will get back to me soon.
I’ve donated lots of books to the library over the years. All I’ve ever had to do is fill up some boxes and take them in the front door to the front desk. They’ll take them,or at least in my county they do.No fuss,no frills,no forms to fill out, lol.
If one were to run into trouble at a smaller branch,I’d try the main library in your county system.
lmao @ Oscarmom

Susan Gegregious - nice review!*ilson–not sure if you are referring to the sound of the change hitting the disposal or the money going down the drain or both, but I’ll have you know I won a whole *thirty-five bucks* in Vegas once (well, it was more than I’ve ever won in any other place!) :)
Be careful about donating books to the library — the Denver Public Library accepts book donations, and then sells them for a buck apiece.
For something on the best seller list, they might add it to their collection — but make sure what will happen to it before donating.
NOT the Susan G who posts on kos.
arrrrrrrrrrrgh! Ann Coulter tells a infatuated Lou that she is the right wing Mencken or Mark Twain.
ptooey!
good god, the woman has no shame. no wonder she’s so high on W.
Satan’s Chambermaid comparing herself to Mark Twain? That’s rich.
I still love the Email Jack Cafferty quoted on CNN: the death of Zarqawi just means one less marriage prospect for Anne Coulter…
Ann Coulter needs a rhinestone grill.
Hey Jane, we left a bowl of breadcrumbs on the table for you!
Oscarmom - that is so funny - and right on. Upon landing at the airport last night, i went to the shuttle stand (walk all the way down the concourse/casino, turn right for taxis, left for shuttles) paid my $10 for a round-trip ticket and stood in the hot diesel fumes til the shuttle arrived. And *ilson, you can tell my purse is going through the grinder.
Before catching up here, do I ever wanna thank our kind angie, for lighting the way of those marooned downstairs on up here!
And may I suggest that we weave us a Super-Duper FDL Hi-Test Safety-Rope until we’re sure today’s website hinkiness is resolved? For the time being, would anybody announcing “new thread,” please include its URL too? Thanks!
Second, if somehow you earlier missed Muzzy’s

I gotta go deal with supper for a bit, so later, you taters (and you beans, you tomatoes, you pork chops, and any ol’ lurking cornpone, you too).
Yesterday’s Vanity Fair piece on the Niger Forgeries is a great read, and a must for all plamologists, if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out.
Anne “man” C. is a shock jock that revels in attention, and the worst possible thing you can do to her is ignore her.
Hi Jennifer: I travel with several copies with me all the time and never come home with any still in the car. Does the ABA have a bookclub or even an online Bookstore? Also, I’d be up for contributing to send over copies to the newly minted ABA panel tasked with reviewing the Bush signing statements. Didn’t someone mention trying to get Neil Young or Springsteen or the Dixie Chicks to link onto the book at their sites? Regarding the libraries, feedback I’ve heard is grumbling from them as, interestingly enough, they have already been pressured by FBI to give over info and they’re quite happy to take the book and would like 2nds “please” as just one isn’t enough per library! I’ve left them in Dr’s office, laundromats, coffee shops and never been shooed out. Bottom line, there is no place that this book doesn’t belong.
Props to the FDL techies - the front page seems to be working again!
Mad props.I was in THE TWILIGHT ZONE earlier.
Couldn’t figure out where everyone was.EPU to the first magnitude.
Jack Cafferty on CNN is ripping into Arlen Specter for talking loudly but doing nothing about government spying on its citizens…
Hello, again. It’s 4:00 and we broke into regional caucuses. i’m in the NorthEast one - we’re introducing ourselves, very much like an AA group. We threw out a moderator and having a good time.
As a librarian at a public library, I can tell you that we’ll be getting HWAPA because of it’s presence on the NYTimes bestseller list. That may well be true for lots of libraries.
Also, I do second the advice of checking on a library’s gift policy, as we sell most stuff that comes in “over the counter.”
I would imagine that most libraries wouldn’t need too much convincing to buy a bestseller …
And George who? George Washington!
ls
Here’s another thought or three, all related to colleges, universities, and other locations of higher education:
Journal editors - be they for law journals, polisci journals, communications journals, history journals, etc. - all have places for reviewing books appropriate to their discipline. If you (or someone you know) is an academic in a field to which HWAPA is appropriate, try to get it reviewed in your/their journals. Some journals have their own in-house reviewers; others consider reviews submitted by readers for later publication. If your/their journal is in the latter group, write the review and send it in!
Professors: lots of books and flyers for books cross your desks every day, far more than you can even think about purchasing. If you haven’t heard of a given book, a common sorting device is to think “have any of my professional colleagues mentioned this book at all?” Thus, the more HWAPA gets mentioned in passing conversations from one professional to another - in the hallway, via emails, professional weblogs, or even at conventions in (for example) Las Vegas - the more likely it is that the book will get better traction.
Which leads to syllabi. If you’re teaching a class for which HWAPA is appropriate, put it on the syllabus. Make it required, put it on reserve, or list it under “additional readings,” but put it in there somewhere. Then, of course, put the syllabus online for the Google search engines to latch on to . . .
Glenn might even put a links to reviews/syllabi on his website. Hint, hint.
These are long-range targets. They won’t get you 1000 copies sold next week. They will, however, shape the discussion for the next year.
Go Jack!
OT - but in keeping with my theme for today *g*
Rawstory has this story up about Rep Miller trying to introduce Northern Marianas etc. legislation now that Delay is gone. He describes the Abramoff/Delay connection (leaving out Ashcroft though) as a “protection racket”

Good for Glenn, and Jennifer: you rock on, woman!
OT, but very weird thing - the site would not refresh for me today. The Zarqawi thread kept coming up at the top, and none of the other posts after it appeared until just now. I thought the site had just been abandoned for the day because of YK. Did this happen to anyone else? Just wondering.
leslie- on and off all day
Leslie– oh yes and worse– we were locked out in the Vegasphere for what seemed hours today.
ck@9:
A Billmon book–fuck yeah, I second that! Give Digby a book deal too, while yer at it.
Whoever is moderating, poor watertiger is stuck in the Zarqawi thread saying not able to log on– I left a lifeline to this thread…
I must apologize to you Firedoggies. Our technicians are switching equipment to cover Las Vegas this weekend and in the process we brought down half of the Internets. Stuff happens!
Jennifer, congrats to you and Glenn, and I second ck’s #9 about a Billmon/Whiskey Bar compilation. That would be very nice indeed.
If people are serious about the 50 state strategy and local politics, wouldn’t it be good to connect the local democratic organizations with this book as a guide?
I’m supposed to be on a book diet - need to read all that I have here first - but was trying to justify getting it over here and donating it. Would it be beneficial to other countries (this one actually has a functioning democracy) too?
Eureka Springs, angie, thanks. I’m using a new computer here, so I had to wonder if it was just me. Hope everything resolves soon.
I gotta be sure to set my TiVo tonight for whatever coverage C-SPAN does - Lord willing they’re going to cover the Plame panel!
Okaayyy…
I’ll spring for ten more copies when my credit billing cycle rolls on the 12th…
Zennurse is here! What a hip looking chick! Tall, slim, with a sharp haircut. A vermont beef-farmer maker of The War Tapes -Justin Krebs of Drinking Liberally just got huge applause - Debtors Prison from Philly manager of Barnes&Nobles who makes sure certain books get prominant spot - from candidateofthemonth.org (?) - one from CT said all other CT bloggers bustingass for Lamont (big applause) passed out “The Kiss” buttons (Bush and Lieberman) - Unstable Isotope is here -
Video and broadband services have been discussed in the House via c-span all day. Is this a neutrality slip?
Thank you for your hard work, Jennifer.
Different library systems no doubt have different policies, so it’s good to check out the library system in your area. Our library system accepts books for two purposes: 1) for the Friends of the Library to resell at a modest price to help fund the library - old romance novels, ten-year-old John Grisham’s, out-of-date almanacs; and 2) newer books for the circulating collection.
If you donate to a library, make sure your copy is going into the circulating collection. Save the receipt(s) when you buy copies of the book, and when you donate to your library, you should ask for (and they should offer) a receipt documenting your donation. Staple your purchase receipt to the library donation receipt, stash in your tax file, and when it comes time to do your taxes, smile when you include donated copies of How Would A Patriot Act in your itemized charitable deductions.
Think also of donating copies to the libraries of colleges, universities and community colleges. I’ve donated copies to the small, but much-used libraries at several of the larger retirement communities around here.
And, as others have posted, I just carry a copy with me on my daily pedestrian rounds.
I’m going to enjoy watching this climb up the bestseller list!
whoo-hoo, according to cspan’s website — 3 will carry it:

and dont forget: if you dont get CSpan3 — it’s available for free on the Internets !
Thanks Kathryn!
Another distribution idea is the “catch and release” method of free book distribution. See the website for bookcrossings at http://www.bookcrossing.com/
The idea is to enroll book copies and leave them in places where others will pick them up, and possibly record the book’s journey on the website.
I haven’t used the method, but have heard good things about it. Someone here might know more.
oh noooo not cspan 3. Calling direc way now.
Maybe the House and Senate will cut short their nonsense, do nothing, rubber stamp republican agenda and go home early and then cspan can switch over to important stuff.
on the weekends, CSpan2 is used for BookTV but CSpan1 is available for political events … I’ve watched some great DC progressive demonstrations on CSpan1 in my living room…
for that matter, Friday Hill Sessions are usually brief (if existent) so members can get back to the Districts…
Will there be an archive of YearlyKos streams, either audio or video? I can’t be in front of my computer for Plameology — and don’t want to miss it!
Also, if you are planning to tune in somewhere, remember that the times are all Pacific, so we in the East can sleep in…..
Thanks for the blow-by-blow Kathryn! You go girl! :)
Every time you fly somewhere, leave a copy at the airport while you are waiting for your plane. I used to do it all the time in a previous life when I traveled for my job. I left at least 5 copies of Wealth of Nations and Way of the Peaceful Warrior in airports a few years ago. I am sure people read them who would not have ordinarily know they existed, let alone bought them. I would write in the front cover “Read it on the plane and leave it at the terminal.”
all CSpan programming is available from them later on DVD
cbl comment on previous post of collateral damage in Zarkawi killing. It would be especially and sickeningly cynical if an already dead Zarkawi’s relatively unscathed body had been planted ex post facto the bombing.
From Las Vegas - a young lady here from the Ukraine who said she has seen this before, thinks our orange badge lanyard is cool, said she is tired of leaving so she is here to help make things right.
Breaking into states now.
Checking in from Vegas. . .
Jane, Christy, RGB, Chrsity’s husband, Taylor Marsh and I just had some snacks in the food court here at the Riv. Let’s just say, this is not your desination eatery, this place. But the company was excellent.
Taking a little break now in the room before the FDL caucus in less than an hour. PST is weird. My body says it’s 8:00PM, and I’m not 23 years old anymore. I’ll be tired later. Here’s a secret about me: two drinks and I’m verrrry sleepy. That’s another big difference fmor me in my 20’s. I have not had any cocktails yet but will after this evening’s keynote.
There are a lot of people I have yet to meet. The FDL folks should hopefully make a good showing at the caucus and I look forward to seeing them all. I’m sure I’ll lose track of names, though.
We saw Brain Keeler earlier, aka, NYBri, a former FDL regular who now is running for a state seat in NY. I hope to interview him for the blog sometimes soon, and have him stick around to chat with commenters: he’s one of you who now is running for office. How cool is that?
I’ll check in again later. . .
For those of us who can’t be there,
http://yearlykos.org/
Jennifer … some great ideas and I figured I could do the library order immediately so imagine my surprise when I found that four Snohomish County, WA libraries have the book. All copies are either checked out or on the hold shelves so it’s got to be really recent.
I’m about 1/2 way through my own copy which, when complete, I will share with the next reader on my list.
Thanks pach for the rundown!!
VERY cool to hear about future lawmaker firedoggies. If only they all were!
It’s cool to think we can make a difference. Please keep the updates coming!
Thank you Pach!
Wow–I didn’t know the keynote speaker was Harry Reid! You see, they ARE listening! As much as the MSM likes to marginalize the blogosphere, we ARE having an impact. So there. Hmph.
Pach, you da man.
Are there broadband connections in the breakout rooms?
It would be great if one of our esteemed colleagues could keep us hoi polloi posted real time.
The Riv is definitely the economy class of Vegas. So we got a decent deal for the conference. But you know the place is trashy when the hookers have to beg, and you want to toss them your loose change and run like hell.
YKos special request: if anyone is attending the Science panel with Stephen Darksyde and General Clark Friday am, I’d love a review!
I thought the Riviera was chosen by lefty bloggers because of its French sounding name…
Nix!
Greenwald!
Sorry, I’m late to the party.
Pach,
“The Riv is definitely the economy class of Vegas.”
LOL The all you can eat seafood buffet at the Rio is EXCELLENT at about $40 ; )
I think the breakout rooms are rigged for wireless, but then again I’ve heard the signal is weak. I have not tried; been leaving my laptop in the room so I can, you know, like, talk to people.
My room, like many here, overlooks a courtyard pool area. I’m a bunch of floors up, but they’re all yelling down there like some scene out of Old School. But I figure later on I’ll sleep right through it. Last conference I was at, my room was right against the elevator shaft, and I could hear elevator gears right through the wall, all the time. Slept through that, too. I sleep like a rock.
Pach, if you’re still around, do you want to take Late Nite on Saturday, or would you like one of us relief pitchers to handle it?
Since most people probably have nothing else to occupy themselves with tomorrow - (!!!) - Glenn Greenwald will be a guest Friday 10 - 11 a.m. PST on KALW-FM (San Francisco public radio) 91.7 FM - Your Call program:
“Our Friday media roundtable: How are bloggers changing journalism?”
(Special Blog edition from YKos)
there’s a web-cast link their home page.
Keith O just pointed out that the death of Zarqawi is the 939th turning point in Iraq for the Preznit …
TRex. Nah, I’ll do my Late Nite Saturday. I’m sure I’ll have something to say by then. And even if I don’t, I have some cool YouTube footage I like. Heh. Seriously, I may just do a bit of a report from Saturday’s breakfast, who knows.
Trex: or relief catchers - so to speak …
*ilson, TRex: settle down, girls.
The “middle threads” between Zarqawi and this one, have been left a lot out of the loop.
Leslie - everyone is getting the Zarqawi thread. You can scroll through comments and get links to these newer threads, or go to the top, after you open comments, and click on the “next” topics. If you hit home, you are back to Z.
I think someone in intel is celebrating Zarqawi and they fixed it so we aren’t allowed to ignore it. *g*

Continuing my OT thought thread from Spectre thread through:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....t/asection
A Safavian story I liked bc it pulled in Tyco.
Safavian denies giving Abramoff insider info re: Tyco. Tyco was being put on the suspension list (from Govt contracts) in 2003. Prosecutors have alleged that Safavian gave Abramoff inside information on an internal debate at GSA over how to handle suspensions, as well as advice on what arguments Tyco could make to appeal the decision.
But guess what? This is a case where both sides agree that there are no state secrets! Go figure when that will ever happen again. ;-) “That was not a state secret at GSA,” he said under cross-examination by Zeidenberg
[frolic and detour]Btw, Tyco’s general counsel while it was using Abramoff for lobbying (including lobbying on tax legislation) was Timothy Flanigan. Flanigan worked on the Bush v. Gore case with Ted Olson, then worked with Addington et al early in the Executive branch power grabs and detainee policies, then went to Tyco. Prior to Bush v. Gore, he earned $800,000 as a consultant to the Federalist Society to write a bio on Burger, and had worked in Office of Legal Counsel during Bush I.
With Comey leaving, Flanigan was nominated for the Deputy AG slot, but things “stalled” with questioning re: Abramoff and the detention policies. Maybe a little bit, too, bc there were two ex-Tyco executives being prosecuted, with the prosecution being overseen by the deputy AG’s office. [/frolic and detour]
Safavian coming back up in a few days for closing arguments (weird scheduling). The article link above mentions other Abramoff associates who have pleaded – Kidan, Scanlon, Rudy and Volz.
[more frolic]Rudy’s plea was particularly interesting, since Delay’s announcement he was leaving Congress came so soon thereafter, and since disclosures about inquiries surrounding Delay’s spouse and Rudy’s close associate, Ed Buckman, are getting attention.
Buckman is a link tieing the Abramoff scandals to the Cunningham scandals, via Wilkes. Buckman lobbied for Brent Wilkes. [/frolicked out]
Anyway – just braiding the strings – like those camp projects where you make key rings. No keys to put on the rings. But with all those strings, and some of the Plame team also handling Safavian, you just wonder if there may be a days, someday, to tie them all up together. That is what I remember, anyway, about making that *%^&$@*! keyring. It’s figuring out when and how to stop the braid once you get going.
I like baseball. Am I missing something here? :~)
Pach et al.- I had a nice long phone conversation with Matt O. earlier- he sent me his cell phone number, and I caught up with him just after he went through airport security on his way to Vegas. Never spoken to him before! Hope you all get to meet him. He will make it in time for the FDL meet-up. He sounds thrilled to be able to make the trip.
While in Vegas,
Do the buffet at the Bellagio. Be sure and go at lunch though. Food is the same and about half the price for dinner.
Then swing on over to the Double Down Saloon for some local color (on Paradise near the gay bars). House drink is a concoction known as “Ass Juice.”
Also, Ellis Island has ridiculously cheap microbrews and a hilarious range of talent during karaoke. Mostly locals there.
Roll them bones…
punaise: its all about the bats and balls …
cspan net neutral arguement now. directv never heard of cspan3… even for $100 a month
hitchin’ to vegas or a city hotel w/high speed lol
punaise: I can show you better than I can tell you.
I get C-Span3 free as a part of my basic “digital tier” on cable…
I’d better head down to the caucus now - ta ta!
You know it’s some slippery law when both sides make the same arguements. Markey ammendment and some other.

Thanks for the Public Service Announcements
LMAO.
Mary, thanks for another great post. Thanks for reminding us about how close Timothy Flanigan, Tyco lawyer, almost came to being an assistant Attorney General of the U.S.
According to wikipedia, Flanigan is a Mormon and has 14 children.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Flanigan
heh heh. I’ll leave the “baseball” to you fellas.
I love all the work done at FDL– and own a substantial North American book distribution company with a decidedly liberal bent. Please email me! Good Luck!

At it again….thanks for the update/insight/history- wouldn’t miss it for anything. These guys must be Pastafarians; like every strand is connected to the rest of the insidious entrprise.

Jen, if you’re still here — how’s about HWAPA as Talking Book ASAP? Glenn’s not only easy reading, he’s easy listening too, eh wot? Open up whole new swaths of the demos, that could.
Mary — no sooner do you plain a plaint for Scheuer on the MSM than he shows up in one of his occasional-commentator gigs on the CBS Evening News! [paraphrased:]
Schieffer Q: What now?
Scheuer A: Next news, I fear, is the Sunnis and Shia stop for a brief think then wheel right around and unite to aim at Americans.
(lotus notes: Whether they do or they don’t, either way, time’s ripe for deploying the Murtha Strategy, dang it!)

I’ve been listening to the House debate on the COPE act, which is the one that is poised to eliminate network neutrality unless it’s amended properly. It looks as though the last hope of averting that fate has just been killed, at least in the House. The Conyers-Sensebrenner amendment, which received bipartisan support out of the telecommunications and judicial committees, was not even allowed consideration on the House floor. The Markey amendment, a weak version of net neutrality, has just been voted down by voice vote.
Marsha Blackburn, the rep. from Tennessee, could not even define the problem correctly, and yet is against the amendment. She said that what the Markey amendment was proposing is to break up the Internet into packets, which must all be treated equally. Needless to say, the Internet is already broken up into packets, that’s how it works. The silly woman doesn’t even know this, but she’s comfortable determining how to change the Internet.
The fix is in, and the whores appear to now be in control of the Internet.
