The Roots action that put a copy of Crashing the Gate on the desk of every Democratic member of the House and Senate was a resounding success. If you haven’t seen the video produced by Politics TV documenting the delivery of the books, click on the YouTube link above (also written up here). It’s absolutely inspiring. But did they read it? It’s time to find out. On Sunday June 11, we’re going to be devoting our regular FDL Book Salon to responses from your representatives to the book. Time to pick up the phone, introduce yourself and ask them what they thought. It’s a fabulous opportunity to get to know the people who work for your reps in a positive way on a name basis. We’re asking for a one or two paragraph comment on either the book or the effort that put it into their hands. We’ll devote as much space as we need to in order to get as many as possible. Because the books were delivered in DC your best bet is probably contacting your rep’s DC office. You can find contact information here. Jay Ackroyd (seen in the video above) is going to be wrangling this effort, and we need to have all submissions by 6pm PDT/9pm EDT on Friday, June 9. You can contact Jay at jayac AT dbsinyc DOT com. Thanks again to everyone who has put their time, effort and dollars into this one. I know lots of folks aren’t going to be able to make it to Yearly Kos so this is a great way to make your presence felt and be with us in spirit. Also please join us this Sunday when Glenn Greenwald joins us to discuss his book, How Would a Patriot Act? The book will debut on that day at #11 on the NYT Bestseller list, due in large part to the amazing outpouring of support shown by blog readers who bought the book. We’ll be here at 5pm EDT/2pm PDT so please stop by, say hello and congratulate Glenn on a job well done.

Gotta be quick
Did they read it?
My question, with some of them, is “could they read it?”
ROFL – what a great idea.
Any way to know which rep might have gotten my book? I’m lost in Texas over here, so I just put down a “Democratic Member”…
Oooo, Jane — “How Would A Patriot Act?”

RFK Jr coming up on le loup-garou on CNN this hour.
Jane,
Are you saying the Mr. Greenwalds blook will not be available in bookstores until the 11th?
I still haven’t gotten my copy of Glenn’s book – is anyone else in the same boat? I ordered it as soon as the pre-order was available. I’m hoping it’s just a distribution issue due to the overwhelming demand and not that they’ve lost my order.
aha! Cathy got a # 0 Fitz ! I saw it and captured it and sent it to Jane!!!
Oilfieldguy #9 — I have no idea when Glenn’s book will be in the bookstores, I think it is already in some but I’ll ask.
SharonW – 2 posts ago. Thank you for looking that up.
I’ve got time this afternoon. I’ll call Barnes a Noble, see if they have it.
Great idea, Jane. Looking forward to hearing the responses.
Am going to try to sneak in some Book Salon time on Sunday; we’re celebrating our older daughter’s 23rd birthday (can’t even tell you where the years went!) with extended family dinner Sunday, but don’t think anyone will be arriving until after 5:00.
Got my pre-ordered HWAPA (ordered along about the 2nd or 3rd day that was possible) more than a week ago, Leslie in CA, so maybe it’s time to get up on your hind legs with your vendor.
Bought another handful of them today at my local B&N — where four of ‘em cost $51 (WTF?) Decided wot-the-hell, it’s worth to get them into the hands of friends white-hot over RFKJr’s article.
Jane, please see #7.
I received my copy of Glenn’s book (pre ordered from Amazon) early last week and finished it this weekend. I’m hoping to be around Sunday to participate. I’m buying multiple copies for friends…
CNN: DoD officially clears troops of wrong-doing in Ishaqi incident (11 civilians dead).
ah well– RFK Jr up during the 7pm hour on CNN– not this hour.
Yes, it is in our Barnes and Noble here in OKC. They set a copy of it out with my name on it. GG was one of the first sites I bookmarked when I came online several months ago. His writing strikes me as a strong business letter type. He tells you what he is going to say, he then says it, then he says what he told you. And I do not mean that in a bad way.
OT – My catchup has been hit and miss, but I really would like to bump up and re-mention two posts that I think were really meaty and that got hidden.

The 6th hasn’t really come through on all it could have lately, so fingers crossed. Prof has a great post up with lots of links (immoderate number of links *g*) and it would be wonderful to have a Keiths situation playing out before our eyes. I’m not sure we have something like the Keith case left in our civic dna, but I hope so. .
Thanks, Mary, but please refresh us on Keith.
Wow- those american troops have apparently been REALLY tense lately- more stories of massacres coming out of the woodwork- but not to worry- Rummy says that they are all gonna get trained in ETHICS- guess they are going to learn that it’s not cool to kill babies. I feel better already!
Once I read the book, I’ll probably write a review. I have not recommended it to any of my friends/family yet. I pretty well relentlessly hammer wingnuts for blind loyalty, so I’ll have to read the book myself before offering any reccomendations. Everything I’ve heard so far has indicated it to be an outstanding book, and that comes from independent thinkers from this site and others, none of whom can be confused with the sheeple of the right.
Off topic, but does anyone know anything about Ben Nelson (”D”-NB), and why he is the ONLY Democratic breaking ranks on the gay marriage constitutional amendment? Another Bush’s favorite Dem?
Endless War for Endless Peace Watch.
Bush, Cheney, Rove and the Republican War Machine are supporting the very militias that killed 18 American troops in Somalia.

AND, rw, guess whose towns the survivors of that mania will be coming back to (almost certainly without proper mental-health support)? Probably gonna make some Vietnam-troubled vets seem like Santa’s elves.
RWCole,
CRumbsfeld recently said the troops were getting “seasoned” NOT battle weary.
The US is heading towards a disaster. Murtha knows it and he is really concerned for the troops. Bush and Cheney and Rove and Rummy and the NPAC crowd will never change their minds until the disaster happens….Then watch the blame game begin.

Ben Nelson is from one of the reddest Bush luvin’ states, so the caucus cuts him some slack when it comes to throw away votes. (It takes a two thirds majority to pass a Constitutional Amendment, btw.)
On the positive side, Ben Nelson doesn’t stab other Democrats in the back, the way Joementum does.

“It isn’t much of a tragedy if my posts get lost – there are plenty of them and they are pretty much worth what they cost”
A couple of weeks ago, another Mary commented and IIRC, you made the offhanded comment that maybe you should post as “mean Mary.” I recall a MoDo article about this. She said, because she’s a woman in the newspaper business, BushCo accuses her of being “unwomanly” when she criticizes the WH. Men don’t receive that kind of treatment. They can criticize the WH and still be gender secure.
I know I speak for a lot of firepups, I give the same weight to your posts as I do to Jane and Christy’s. I would also offer that it’s possible that Jane and Christy appreciate them too, as a very trustworthy feedback loop. Information moves quickly and reading one of your trusted posts gives greater confidence to them and to us that we haven’t missed any new fact that may have been inserted into the discussion. From that point of view, the weight that so many of us give to them, your posts are extremely economical.
OT, CS Lewis said something like, it’s not the new stuff, it’s remembering the old fundamentals. You are a very challenging thinker, but I always feel you drawing us back to the most profound truths of who we are as American. Also, learning is all about repetition. Repeating things that YOU have said before strikes me as a very good thing. Additionally, FDL is growing exponentially, so a lot of people haven’t read your stuff before. You can trust us to let you know, if we think you’ve become repetitive. I don’t think it will happen.
OT, a lot of your outrage has been about state-sponsored torture. It’s an easy topic to run away from, but you haven’t. I don’t go over to Swopa as much as I used to, because it’s too depressing about Iraq. (That’s my problem). IMO, like the great prophets of the Judaeo Xtian tradition, you, Mary, bring us back to the painful demands of ethical behavior that are leaders have so thoroughly run away from. You do it gently, often with subtle humor.
My hope is that FDL will continue to be a place where you feel welcome and enjoy posting.
FWIW, a lot of us comment, you post.
HWAPA is, according to the online inventory, available in store at Border’s, at least the one by me.
Walked in to Barnes & Noble west of Akron OH. Clerk had never heard of the book, but looked it up on computer & found they apparently had 3 copies, & hadn’t even unpacked those by Thurs. eve (6/1). Clerk was nice enough to go find me one. I gather I was the 1st to ask, and none were spoken-for yet.
When I told her about the grass-roots book-presentation to Congresspeople, her reaction, “Way cool!” Indeed! Thanks to everyone who took part.

Booklovers probably already know about the daily bleed where I got this idea…it’s a sad fact of life that some of the biggest hits Team Bush have taken recently have been from the right. ( I blame the Military/entertainment complex natch!)
Anyways along that thoughtline I mention these precedent’s for our lunar rightwing lurkers to ponder on back at the ranch.
1) 1995 — US: Beloved & Respected Comrade Leader Ex-CIA/Pres.
George Bush resigns from the NRA (National Rifle Association),
citing their reference to federal agents as “jackbooted government
thugs”. ( from the Daily bleed book newsletter)
2) 2001 – Bush request’s NATO planes fly over US territory. FRENCH WARPLANES gaining valuable RECON-INTEL!!
3) Just when you think it can’t get worse, plans are drawn up to grab guns and imprison patriots while Bush commit’s sodomous adultery in the WHITE HOUSE with Condi Rice.
Chance: As long as the
roots are not severed, all is
well. & all will be well in
the garden….
This is a great idea for the Roots Project. I’ll call my Critter on Monday morning about CTG.
My copy of HWAPA was received by my local independent bookstore three days after I ordered it. Conveniently, it arrived last Saturday just in time to zip though it before Sunday’s Book Salon. If your local bookstore is not stocking it, please ask them to order it for you. The more special orders they get, the more likely they are to actually stock it.

John – thank you very much, I answered below.
lotuslander 22, the Keith case was the breakthrough case after Katz on illegal wiretaps. Katz was a law enforcement wiretap case where the court (S.Ct) held that warrants were required to wiretap US citizens for law enforcement purposes.
Keith came after and is really a “US v. US Dist Ct” case, but commonly called the Keith case after the Dist Ct Judge, Judge Keith, who drew the line in the sand. It involved domestic wiretaps that were for “national security” surveillance instead of law enforcement surveillance. Many of the “President has the inherent authority to engage in national security surveillance” etc. arguments being resurrected now. Judge Keith ruled that national security wiretaps needed warrants as well (and he was affirmed by the S.Ct). An incredibly tough ruling for him to have to make, and then gov went after him demanding return of the surveillance docs in the court’s protection and making him, the Judge, a party to the appeal.
There was a really good article I linked to a week or two ago about Judge Keith and that case in particular and if I can find it I’ll link it again.

Re; John Casper’s comment to Mary on 31
Please let me second that. I make my comment based on recollection. Mary’s comments are works of scholarship.
I am even more impressed because, if I understand correctly, most of these posts do not involve the are of law in which Mary actually practices.
Some of them are in areas of law where only maybe a dozen lawyers in the country have any real life experience. To be self taught in such arcania, is pretty serious stuff.
Hat tip, full bow and curtsy to you Mary.
My bad. Mike Thompson dumped 500 pounds of dead salmon on the steps of the department of the interior in 2002.
What John Casper says at 2:07 pm wrt Mary’s posts. Always engaging, enlightening, and remindful of what’s really at stake these days.
Always enjoy yours, too, JC.
Heh. Thompson’s my rep as well, and I hadn’t heard of the salmon thing. He’s not exactly been a bold, progressive MOC, so good for him.
I would like to echo the comments about Mary’s posts.Very smart lady. So smart, I usually have to re-read them in pieces to digest what she is communicating. That she graces us with her wisdom is a true gift.
Yeah…what JC said. Mary, blush away.
And you, John Casper, are a gentleman and a treasure.
Thanks so much for posting that video. I feel happy and I feel proud to see such good work being done by people on our side.
JWR @ 2:32 pm (#52) – What he said.
Thanks so much, Mary, and if you do run across that article, I know we’ll (re)profit by it.
I declare, girl, every time you post, I just shake my head, “DAMN, she’s good!”
Of course I do that many times, over many posts and comments, every day here — but without your help, most of us would be in much deeper weeds way more often than we are.
My language stops rather short of my gratitude.
Mary – What John said. Especially since you are willing to take the time, like Christy, to try and explain the law and the dynamics of lawsuits to the masses; unlike someone like me who will simply state something like: all defense motions are bullshit (even if I am consistently omniscient on that count).
BTW – And I sent an email to Christy about this – if you (or anyone else for that matter) wants to quickly become an “expert” on the current state of federal criminal law in almost any area, get a copy of the American Criminal Law Review put out by Georgetown Law School. I believe it is a once a year review. Ask for Volume 43 Spring 06 Number 2 for the latest.

Jesus, poor hair boy Byron York is in an absolute panic over the popularity of Glenn’s book …

BLOG-POWERED BOOK SALES [Byron York]
A few weeks ago I wrote a story about a book, How Would A Patriot Act? , by a relatively obscure blogger, Glenn Greenwald, and how it had shot to the top of the Amazon sales charts without the benefit of advertising, promotion, or reviews. Amazon executives told me they had no good explanation for it, although they believed their ranking system had sufficient safeguards against bulk purchases or other attempts to game the system. So the success of How Would A Patriot Act? appeared to be a legitimately new phenomenon of blog-powered book sales. Now, a number of bloggers on the Left are delighted that the book will appear on the New York Times paperback bestseller list on June 11; you can see an image of the page here . The question I have is that How Would A Patriot Act? is the only book on the list about which the Times notes that “some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.” I’m not suggesting that there is anything untoward going on, but does anyone know how big the bulk orders are and where they might be coming from?
Posted at 7:45 PM”
Ummm, sorry Byron. Bulk buys is what wingnuts do to artifically inflate sales.
Just heard Joe Scarborough on Hardball:
“If you have lower ratings than Nixon or Carter…you earned them.”
Breaking news: It was a different Mary that won the lottery. *G*
I don’t really practice in any area these days – just business stuff – so don’t actually RELY on anything I say.
Even my Frist stir fry recipe is questionable.
lotuslander – here is the article, it is a pdf file http://www.mied.uscourts.gov/_…..spdf/Court Legacy 11-03.pdf
Another non-pdf, not much background, but nice pithy quotes: http://www.blackprof.com/archi…..rrant.html
Judge Keith is just all that, IMO. He also issued the opinion for the 6th cir in 2002 (noted at end of second short article) on having private deportation hearings with the stellar quote, “Democracies die behind closed doors.”
If I ever write something like that, using those few words to mean that much — every life needs a goal.

I think I can guess who that lawyer making the prediction is.
Not too many folks have retired from involvement in the case (not counting the FBI guy)
And the OpinionJournal has sunk to new lows …. they quote Clarice Feldman, the conspiracy theorist that posts on JustOneminute.
http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/
Gee, did they know that Clarice thinks the Blind Sheik should be let out of jail (because Fitz threw him in jail and everyone knows Fitz is bad). Does the WSJ know that Clarice thinks the first world trade center bombings were not Al Queda but ordered by Iraq? That the WMDs were moved to Syria and the CIA has proof? That the 9/11 Commission covered up key info linking Iraq and Al Queda? Why doesn’t the WSJ just listen to a crazy guy on a street corner proclaiming “Repent. The End is Near”? That dude would be more credible.

Thanks for the Keith links, Mary — will go there ASAP. That “Democracies die behind closed doors” quote — where did I see that yesterday or earlier today — in RFK’s piece itself? Lord, what powerful elegance.
Alice Marshall, what’s your problem with constituents contacting their elected representitives? They work for us, that’s what they’re supposed to be “busy” doing.
In regards to Lay and Scanlon:
“Republicans die in prison.”
umm, Alice, what are these offices busy doing? I have not been able to meet with any of my oft vacationing Senators or my Congressperson in my state, much less their staff– but then again, they are Republicans.
They can read a book, can’t they? One proposed by their constituents– I thought their job was to represent us.
Guess you think that is a purely plebian idea.

People are just so confused. Our job is to vote for them so they can go to DC and meet with and work for important people, so STFU. (snark alert)

I meant there is a very small pool of suspects for the source of the quote.
Add to the fact that the quote was somewhat humerous and the pool shrinks a little more. You gotta kick Ashcroft out of the pool, for example.
lhp –
I’m not sure Ashcroft can swim. It’s too much like dancing, and everyone’s wearing those tight, form-fitting outfits . . .
Alice Marshall @83
Well, of course it is a power trip, but not only for FDL; it is the combined power of the netroots, and it is one of the few ways ordinary people can get the attention of those inside the beltway. Most of us here are constantly looking at all the other blogs out there, and coordinating with the other progressives.
Remember, to get the attention of a donkey, you have to hit him between the eyes with a two by four.
That’s why blogswarms have evolved, and coordinated roots projects. It is fundamentally different than traditional populist movements because it is nationwide, constantly connected and focused.
There; I said it and I’m glad.
-sofistic
I agree with kicking Ashcroft out of the pool. Without regard to why, I agree with the kick. Extra chlorine too.
Is someone “at one time involved” if they haven’t actually withdrawn formally, just are doing other stuff?
Do I need to get out my soapbox again, firepups?
1. Ann Coulter sucks.
2. Jokes about her being transgender demean transgender persons.
3. Demeaning transgender persons sucks.
4. Ann Coulter sucks.
/puts soapbox away/
You’re thinking Comey?
When I hear “lawyer involved with the case” I don’t think Fitz’s superior. I think lawyer actually working on the case.
angie @ 3:16 pm – Guess you think that is a purely plebian idea.
Which one, the reading books idea, or the idea that our representatives should meet with their constituents?
These days Republicans seem to view books as being either fuel or food, depending on where they are in the heirarchy of needs.
One of the very enlightening things that Paul Hackett said when he was hosting on AAR was this: Someone asked him if he would run again. He acted very pessimistic about that. He said, if you or anyone you know is thinking of running for office, tell them to get a cup and sit out on the corner from 9 to 5 begging for money. Because when you run for office, that’s what you do, all day, every day.
So it may in fact be unrealistic to think that they have time to read a book. And that is the very, very sorry state of our democracy.
Call an ambulance, Lou Dobbs just flipped out! LOL
He wants answers IMMEDIATELY from the WHITE HOUSE by MONDAY why a Venezuelan owned voting machine has contracts in the U.S.
On the other hand, the Roots project IS about being a power trip. It’s supposed to SHIFT the balance of power from those with the money to those who are paying attention and care about the issues.
In other words, it’s about resurrecting democracy as we know it.
I knew someone would take me to the woodshed for that one. Women won’t claim it, men wouldn’t poke it and shemales cast it out. Unich? What is the classification?
Mary, Lobstergirl et al,
Remember how Scooter was blind quoted as a “former Hill staffer”? Which was technically true, but really misleading?
OK, work with me:
Think of all the people (lawyers)
1)who once were associated with this case
2) are known to no longer be associated with this case, and
3) have been know to say cute funny little things when, for example, talking about Elliot NEss with a Harvard Law degree?
Extra hint: Who has been running interference w/the press for Fitz every time they sound like they are getting cranky cause Pat won’t leak?
And there is nothing illegal, immoral or fattening about said person making a “prediction” based on his own guesswork.
Note: The above is ONLY my guesswork, I have no real knowledge here. it’s just that there is a small pool to chose from.
looseheadprop–I dunno–who?? (guess I’m not as up to speed on this stuff as I should be!)
I don’t think anyone could stretch to get Comey was “involved in” the case. I’m just thinking folks who have signed off on things and so have notices of appearance, but seem to be working other things now, without technically having withdrawn. All that is post-filing though. Pre-filing, and even pre-Fitzgerald, there are other possibles.
I don’t really worry too much who it might be, as much as if it’s reliable. I pretty much think Froomkin is only going to use it if it’s reliable though.
what’s your problem with constituents contacting their elected representitives? They work for us, that’s what they’re supposed to be “busy” doing.
Politicians always have a huge stack of very dense reading material. Legislation, policy and research papers to support legislation. It is true they read only a small fraction of the material they vote on, but even that is a very high stack. And netroots isn’t the only group sending them stuff.
I just don’t see how this advances the ball.
Lobstergirl
I would be surprised if Comey were not directly working on this case while he was still at DOJ.
Those two are bust friends and former trial partners. Actually, when I heard Comey was going to leave DOJ, I worried b/c it meant Pat did not have an peer to bounce ideas around with anymore.
Who else could it be? Does suchan informal sounding quote seem likely comming from Ashcroft? That leaves only the guy(name? Goldberg?) who went to teach at Harvard.
new thread — SOL Scooter
new thread – and I got a first Fitz!
I guess Loud Obbs cares more about the Venezualans stealing the election than the Republicans.
that’s “best” not “bust”
Do you think Mike McCurry goes around issuing required reading lists or pop quizes? Of course not. There is a reason eeeeeeeeeevil lobbyists run circles around citizen activists. It is not just a question of money, citizen activists are legendary for their disagreeable approach to public policy.
Everyone who has ever hung out at a state capital, never mind capitol hill, has asked why are the bad guys so nice and the good guys so awful. I mean it is a clich. So tell me how this advances the ball?
Alice Marshall at
“I just don’t see how this advances the ball.”

Crash the gates and rip the hinges from every public door. Who said truth will set you free? Thanks to so many here cannot be said enough.
And they have staff, too, Alice. There surely is something wrong if somebody can’t be bothered to even partially read anything but a huge stack of very dense reading material in between fundraising. Constituents matter– that is what has been wrong for so long, Alice– K Street has to be kicked to the curb.
Oh, no way is it Ashcroft. I was thinking more along the lines of one of the lawyers actually on the Special Counsel staff:

Alice Marshall,
We who vote are not being represented. They are advancing the wrong ball and if we have to go down there and stand on there desks to give them a reality check so be it. An illegal war, shredding of the constitution, stolen elections, plundering of the national treasury and breaks for all the fat cats. That is the ball that is getting advanced. Wrong ball, wrong ball.
I cross posted with you lhp. Froomkin is getting up there with Miller on the parsing for “involved in” if that’s it, but it is a very vague reference. Not “worked on” but just involved in. I, of course, read it as meaning worked on, which if someone is parsing is what they would want.
I am having really bad “pop up” thoughts about being in a pool with ex-AGs now. Thanks.
Alas, on the road during Glenn’s book talk, but I can highly recommend the first Spotlight review on amazon :)
Seeya in a few days, I trust you all will keep the nation going during my absence.
VIRGINIA: VOTE WEBB
If you live in Virginia, not much time left before the June 13 Democratic primary. Please help get out the vote, call friends, email people, vote for James Webb—who can defeat George Allen for Senate AND derail Allen’s presidential bid. Do we want another not very smart president?
Jane, I hope you are going to give us a reminder to call on Monday, when the offices will reopen. :)
I’m in Chet Edwards’ Texas district, I don’t think he’ll read it, but maybe I can get a staff person to.
Hey! Amazon just delivered me my very own copy of Crashing the Gate and Lapdogs! Time to put my Evelyn Woodhead speed reading skills to the test! Woooooooohooooooooo.
Alice Marshall,
I’m not quite sure what to make of your comments. My simple answer is that I have every right to politely ask the man who wants my vote some simple questions:
1. If my Rep has personally received the copy I purchased or if it’s still sitting on someone else’s desk.
2. If he’s received it, has he had the time to read it.
3. If he’s read it, what he thought about its message.
I suggest you watch the video, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz freely admits that her copy will go in the pile on her night stand. That’s an understandable answer…but then she says it might go in her briefcase for her next flight. That’s a smart answer.
My call may well be nothing more than a gentle reminder to pull it to the top of the pile so they can respond differently the next time I call. If that’s a power trip, then color me guilty.
Alice Marshall @ 3:39 pm (#119) – I think Mike McCurry and his ilk drop off all sorts of “helpful” reading material. They are, after all, there to inform members of Congress about their clients’ opinions on legislation. This inevitably will include a certain amount of reading material. Or did you think it was all “I wish you’d vote for the Blah-Blah Amendment, and here’s a million dollars”?
I think Mike McCurry and his ilk drop off all sorts of “helpful” reading material.
without a shadow of a doubt. but he would not dream of putting out pop quizes.
OK this is really getting to me. It’s “QUIZZES”
This may have been mentioned but has anyone considered that How Would A Patriot Act? should also be put in the hands of each congressperson?
Is there anything in the works to make this happen?
.
Heck, for that matter, I think a copy of HWAPA? should be sent to the editors of every major news publication.
While all eyes have been focused on the Senate’s consideration of hot-ticket policy items such as immigration and lobbying reform, the Bush administration has quietly aimed its most aggressive campaign at unlocking dozens of executive nominations before election-year politics take hold for good
That last from Huffington.
WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis said Friday he has not been contacted by federal investigators in their probe of his relationship with a lobbyist and benefactor whose firm’s clients include Lewis’ hometown and home county.

Lewis, R-Calif., said any review of projects he’s won for the city of Redlands and San Bernardino County, both in his district, will show “they all meet the highest standards of public benefit.”
Officials in both Redlands and the county have confirmed receiving federal subpoenas for records regarding any correspondence among Lewis, his staff and the lobbying firm %u2014 Copeland, Lowery, Jacquez, Denton, & White. The firm employs former Rep. Bill Lowery, R-Calif.

I really hope this bad boy goes down- and AFTER tuesday’s primary- so he’s locked in as the gooper candidate.
GROTON, Connecticut (AP) — A Learjet registered to religious broadcaster Pat Robertson crashed in Long Island Sound while flying in heavy fog Friday, killing both pilots, authorities said. All three passengers escaped without serious injury.
Robertson was not aboard.
I have never attended a church where a pastor owned a learjet. Have you? Was God giving Robertson a message? We’ll have to wait and see what Pat has to say- after his divine conference.
I can’t believe that millions of peopple a day watch this grotesque bag of shit and pay attention to what he has to say.
God must love the gullible- he makes so many of them.
How about putting a copy of the goddamned CONSTITUTION in the hands of every senator and representative?
“How about putting a copy of the goddamned CONSTITUTION in the hands of every senator and representative?
Yes.
What would it take to do that?
Cujo359 @ 3:27 — both of those actions would be a-ok by me; not too much to ask, eh?
May I grab this opportunity to plug Mrs. Lupin’s new book, OVER HERE: AN AMERICAN EXPAT IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE, which is available on Amazon. It can also be ordered direct from the publisher, Black Coat Press. Briefly, the book tells of our decision to leave Los Angeles after the “reelection” of you-know-who and diaries our relocation to the South of France during the ensuing 12 months. It’s illustrated with 100 b&w photos. It’s a cross between A YEAR IN PROVENCE and DAILY KOS.
I’ll be at work tomorrow, so I won’t be able to participate in the forum.
Just pass this along.
I just finished Glenn’s book and it is a “must read” for every American, right, left, and in-between.
Re: 140
I still really like the idea of hand-delivering a copy of the Contitution to EVERY member of Congress.
This will draw attention to the violence the Executive Branch of the government has already done to the Constitution. We frame it as a non-partisan issue.
The Constitution all rolled up and tied with a red ribbon constitutes a lovely gift. What will it take to do this? It’s less expensive than purchasing copies of CtG since the Constitution can simply be copied.
Re: 122
You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free is John 8:32.
Alice, you have a valid point. Our senators and representatives have a great deal to read, and some of them admit that they don’t even read the full texts of the bills and resolutions on which they vote. That’s a priority. But if enough of us keep reminding our senators and representatives that they have this book and that we want them to read it, someone will open the book up and, I think, find it significant reading.
