Oh, that Atrios. He made me spew my tea on this one:
A genuinely relevant political article in the New York Times would involve a detailed examination of the sex lives of all non-married members of the Bush administration. Abstinence-only education is a key policy feature of the Bush administration, and it would certainly be legitimate to ask if they are, in fact, saving it.
So, hmmmmmmm…Condi? Joshua Bolten? Harriet Miers? Who am I missing?
I mean, honestly, it’s not that I really care if Condi — she of the domi-Matrix ensemble – is the Mistress of Her Domain or anything…but wouldn’t the responsible thing for the NYTimes to do after today’s "Bill and Hil’ Are They or Aren’t They" festival be to start asking. If this is the sort of thing they deem appropriate journalism — wouldn’t it be appropriate to see which single Administration employees are keeping the aspirin firmly ensconsed between their knees? Especially given the high profile of "abstinance only" education that the Bush Administration has been pushing.
C’mon who’s walking the walk (so to speak) and not just full of hot air?
(Does anyone else see how ridiculous this could get, if they keep going down this "journalistic" path?)

EPU, Pardon my ignorance,
What’s a Kazuza?
With the relevant players abiding by their own inherently ridiculous ground rules, to them it won’t be ridiculous at all. The rules are: One set of mean rules apply to people we think are bad, and one set of nice rules apply to people we think are good.

I’d also nominate the First Kiddos for a front-pager. We all want to know how Jenna and Not-Jenna are doing with their personal “save it till marriage” oaths. It would be an inspiration to all chaste youths across the nation.
In some ways I think I liked it better when a public life was public and a private life was private.
The only time one’s private life should become relevant is if it somehow begins influencing the public life, for example by creating a conflict of interest, or by causing a croney hiring, or creating a liklihood of the public figure being subject to blackmail.
Oh, surely not an aspirin! Any determined suitor can wrest one’s knees apart if only an aspirin is holding them together.
Condi keeps a business card firmly between her legs.
Let’s not forget Ken “I cannot confirm my heterosexuality” Mehlman and Karl “I’m with the Beard” Rove!
Let’s get cub reporter Jimmy/Jeff Guckert/Gannon right on ‘em. I mean, it.

Yeah, but whose business card?
“Enquiring minds want to know.” Or at least they did until the anthrax attack.
It’s one thing to openly discuss whether a Supreme Court nominee has violated laws against sexual harrasment. That has relevance to how he will do his job. It is particularly relevant if that nominee broke those civil rights laws while working at an agency with the specific mission of protecting civil rights, because it tells us a lot about that nominee’s willingness to follow the law, liklihood to violate his oath of office and other character issues that directly relate to his fitness for a lifetime appointment to the ultimate authority in the land.
Whether Condi owns a trapeze or a bullwhip, I don’t give a rat’s ass.
UNLESS she is personally using that bullwhip on an illegal detainee.
Does anyone really desire to know what is going on in the personal lives, it they have them, of Rice, Bolton, or Miers? I trust that they have come to whatever resolve about sex and relationships that they feel serves them. I trust the same thing about Hillary and Bill.
If they are hypocrites about this as they are about foreign policy, it has no bearing other than to further confirm what I already know: They persist in making choices for others that they would not choose for themselves. Hypocrisy is a burdensome thing to bear. Watch as they evolve into the hollow stone faces as the ‘pillar facades’ of governance.
Stone facade or not, don’t put any weight on them. There is nothing in hypocrisy to support.

(Does anyone else see how ridiculous this could get, if they keep going down this “journalistic” path?)
I don’t think it is ridiculous (or even ludicrous) to ask people who claim to live by certain morals tenets, expound those moral tenets as appropriate for all, create policy based on those tenets and demand others to live by those tenets, whether they actually do live their lives according to such tenets. In fact, I think it is actually important to know the answers to such questions.
Why? The hypocrisy; the lies. It all goes hand in hand for exposing them as the inept, lying phonies that they are in ALL ASPECTS of governance; that everything they claim to stand for is a sham, and they are not fit to govern. And not fit not b/c of whatever anyone’s predilections may or may not be; but not fit b/c they are complete and total shams.
Codi always says, “There’s no such thing as too much bush!”
Hey, let’s not forget Karen Hughes. Isn’t she a single mom, or am I making that up? I bet you anything as part of her Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (i.e., repair our image with the fucking Middle East for God’s sake!) job she has gotten close with Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. I would not be surprised if several nights a week Mahmoud is stumbling drunk on the perfume in Karen’s smooth, shoulder-length tresses.
Submitted as further fodder for discussion.
Compared to what Chelsea endured, the twins get off easy.
Sorry – mistake. I meant to say “Karen’s brushy, close-cropped tresses.”
Looseheadprop – It is the common greeting in the EPU, similar to Aloha in Hawaii or Shalom. (I gave the real answer once, and it involves a great episode of NewsRadio and Catherine (Khandi Alexander) making Bill (Phil Hartman) look like a fool. I guess I should save some posts).
Condi may be as indictable as the rest of the WHIG and White House crew, but her sex life, if any, is nobody else’s business, really. But if any, you can bet the Mossad knows about it. So not to fret.
Anybody remember that 3 Dog Night song, “Celebrate”?
The Republicans could use it at their next convention, with altered lyrics altered to support their meme du jour:
Since you brought it up, I’ve heard (really) from Denver residents that Condi had a reputation from her college days there of being quite friendly with a goodly percentage of the football team. No idea if that’s true or not, but I guess that’s no longer a barrier to writing it down.
Whether Condi owns a trapeze or a bullwhip, I don’t give a rat’s ass.
Condi’s sex life would only be relevant if she was pushing the abstinence policy herself.
Then again, it might be raised in relation to overseas family planning funding…
How about an ex-press secret….
a comic i did last year about condi & biden
The most interesting thing about Bush’s slide is where he is losing support. In Gallup’s January polls, his approval ratings averaged 10.7 percent among Democrats. This month, he’s averaging 8 percent Democratic approval, a loss of just 2.7 percentage points. Among independents, the president averaged a 31 percent approval in January polls, compared with 24.5 percent this month, a decline of only 6.5 percentage points. But among Republicans, he has plunged 17 points — from 86 percent approval in January to 69 percent in May.
Bush’s loss of support among Republicans isn’t uniform. Emory University political scientist Alan Abramowitz points out, “To read the news, you’d assume that Bush’s biggest problem right now is reinforcing his support among conservatives.” Abramowitz notes, however, that Gallup’s analysis shows that in both its April 10-13 and April 28-30 polls, Bush’s approval rating was 79 percent among conservative Republicans. It dropped a mere 2 points among GOP conservatives in the May 5-7 and May 8-11 surveys.
But among the rest of the GOP (moderates and liberals combined), Bush’s approval rating was 65 percent in each of the two April surveys, then dropped 10 points in the first May survey and another 10 points — to 45 percent — in the most recent survey.
Republican pollsters say that moderates and women are Bush’s biggest problem — at least in terms of his plunging scores. His numbers on the war in Iraq haven’t moved, but the broader issue of “competence” — which surfaced after Hurricane Katrina — has combined with high gasoline prices to take a real toll on his standing. The pollsters say that even though only liberals and Democrats actually blame Bush for the prices at the pump, the unhappiness about high gasoline prices is so souring the public mood that it’s undermining Bush’s already low ratings.
The president must do three things, GOP strategists argue. First, change the subject — shift the public’s attention away from problems that are dragging the poll numbers down. They acknowledge, however, that could well be Mission Impossible. Second, make real changes. Bush needs to do more than replace some White House aides whom most voters have never heard of with other unknowns. Third, the president’s team must find some way to deal with the fact that Americans seem to have just grown tired of the current Bush. Arguably, the public saw one George W. Bush during the 2000 campaign, another during his pre-9/11 months in the White House, and a third ever since 9/11.
Americans eventually hit the mute button on President Carter, whose floor in the Gallup Poll was 28 percent approval. Have they also stopped listening to Bush?
(Cook’s political report)
Karen Hughes has a husband, Jerry.
How about just a full NYT article focused on George and Laura? Do they still do it? How often? Is Laura satisfied?

I would settle for an article laying bare the Clintons’ sexual habits if we could also have an article detailing all the alcohol and medications both Bushes and both Cheneys are on.

Right. And Elizabeth Bumiller can ask Bush if he was a virgin until he was married.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States:
“Today I am asking the Congress to join with me in establishing tax credits for those who open up Conjugal Haitus And Sexually Traumatic Endowment accounts.
These CHASTE accounts will allow those men and woman of child-bearing or conceiving age to make their hard, earned deferred deposits more interesting…er, interest-bearing, by rewarding their withholding with financial incentives.
The CHASTE initiative is not, as some are calling it, an attempt by the federal government to reach into the bedrooms of its citizens. Quite the contrary, we want to stop conjugal activity wherever it may occur, beginning here in the Oral, er, Oval Office. Ultimately, it will take more than mere money to change behavior, but if these CHASTE seeds can make a mark on the fabric of our nation, then I say, let’s pull together. Otherwise, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, we will assuredly all pull separatley.
Thank you and have a pleasur–er, pleasant, evening.”
I listened to Jason Leopold’s interview (the first 20-25 minutes) on Wisconsin Public Radio. Jason did not out his sources as he claimed he would do earlier, but stammered he had worked with his sources for a couple of years on this story. I was not impressed with his interview or representation of himself. He acknoledged that he had revealed his checkered past in his own book — that he has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and that 10 years ago he became a felon from a grand larceny charge. I think to listen to him one needs a large, large salt shaker. He didn’t sound credible to me.
Look…when Condi wears those boots, I’m almost tempted to leave the KKK. Just hold back my dues and start eating chocolate ice cream.
Absolutely correct….the sanctity of marriage crowd has an awful lot of Senior Adminstration officials who arent married and are 40+ years old

Heard the new candidate opposing House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King last night.
The Dem challenger is Dave Mejias. When asked about whether or not he would support impeachment investigations and hearings if the Dems regained control of the House, he didn’t skip a beat and said
Anybody who had the gall to out Valerie Plame for any reason is a traitor to his country and deserves to be treated as such.
Traitor. nice choice of words. New York’s 3rd CD may have itself a Fighting Dem come November.
Yes, he is an ex marine. Oh, and that was the big applause line.
J. Donne 40, called my source, who said the team in question was the Broncos. Still no evidence, just idle gossip. This is so beneath me.
Scott McClellan has a wife. He’s been married a year, I believe.
And Rumsfeld is married to Mrs. Joyce Rumsfeld.
Don’t forget Ann Coulter. Isn’t she a virgin? Or shouldn’t she be a virgin. Just asking, not thinking.
BTW; Hurricane season starts June 1st. Just saying…
Lobstergirl @ 43– it is either a wannabe imitation of Matalin’s outer space flower thingie that she sprouted on Timmeh’s show post deadeye’s shooting an elder in the face or the shrunken head of a tortured to death enemy combatant from our endless war on terra.
My best guess…
Here’s the formula for asking a slimy question:
“Some people say gays are unable to sustain monogamous relationships. What exactly was the nature of Rudy Guliani’s relationship with those gay men he lived with following his latest divorce?”
OP99
You know, I forget where, but I’ve heard that before–the Broncos thing. A long time ago.
Hey, I’m kinda jealous. A bunch of professional athletes in the best shape of there lives. not bad.
also listenning wpr and J.Leo…
He does stand behind by the report. But as we all know, it’s a 50-50 shot in the dark. Eventually, it will be known. But, it could be just a shot, as opposed to really knowing.
His explanation of sources is that he’s ‘known’ them for two years. ‘High levels’…
Now, reverse-smearing ‘liberal blogosphere’…
op99 @ 53:
You are miles above Condi’s fling with Lyle Alzado.
Why don’t we make a list of personal, sexual questions we’d like the media to ask Republicans? Maybe I’ll publish the best ones in a post sometime.
Which of Newt Gingrich’s marriages make him more qualified to speak out on “family values”? The first one, where he married his former math teacher and then divorced her as she lay on a hospital bed recovering from a masectomy? Or the second one, whom he divorced when it was revealed he was having an affair with a twenty-something congressional intern?
Did George Bush’s checkered history of alcohol and drug abuse have any lasting impact on his sexual performance? Is that why he walks around with the codpiece costumes and the overall tough guy act?
Does Dick Cheney’s heart condition interfere with his marital duties? Or is his wife Lynne — the author of the lesbian western Sisters — even interested in that kind of thing?
Way off topic, but relevant to rwcole’s #35:
I read an article this morning on Yahoo, I think, about Bush squelching ideas of any troop withdrawals. Yesterday some of the commenters here expressed the potential impact that this could have on Bush and the GOP’s poll #s before the elections. I would tend to agree IF the violence there was to abate after the pullout. (there’s your sexual relevance :))
So why wouldn’t the Admin. jump at the chance?
The only thing I can think of is that this is truly an indication of their deepest darkest desires to occupy Iraq permanently (think of those 4 super bases) and prepare for more wars against Iraq’s neighbors. There will only be a withdrawal when the Thief-in-Chief can safely do all it’s dirty business from the confines of those mega-bases.
If they don’t withdraw troops before the elections why in the hell would they afterwards?
Condi. La Hill, Monica and El Bill. Laura and Geo. Lynne and the DICK. Jenna and Barbara (the ‘first’ ridiculous and useless twins). Sex sells. Who cares and to what end would anyone give a s**t? Puleeze. Spare me the visuals!!! I really don’t feel up to gagging tonight.
Condi is well known as a football groupie (however that may be interpreted) – she allegedly seriously dated a player and hung around with other footballers wives. George might want to be the Baseball Commissioner but Condi would be pleased as punch to be the Football Commissioner herself.
Condi’s thing with the Broncos back then wasn’t physical. It was just an Orange Crush.
n69n at 44, I’m not really one to talk given my behavior so far on this thread, but that one of Hughes reflects a lot worse on you than her.
Ann Coulter? She should be a virgin, should she not? And how about divorces…?
Condi? Joshua Bolten? Harriet Miers?
Now that would be one boring story cause none of them are getting any.
No one could hold it down like my man Bill!
Deadeye is a confirmed shooter and sleeper……

That was really funny.
Following on your 70, moeman– also leave no dna or trace evidence behind, either.
Pssst! I hear Chimpy’s sister Doro has conjugal relations with (gasp) a Democrat.
As long as we’re asking questions on the subject:
“Mr. President, would you support a Constitutinal Amendment that says sex is between a man and a woman?”
I just want to see his reaction.
Now that you mention it I do remember some of Condi’s “Republican friends” expressing concern when she was in the same building as Karl “The Albino Rhino” Mecklenberg.
J.Leo absolutely rules out that he’s been ’setup’ by the ratfucker/Rove and Co.
“Mr. President, would you support a Constitutional Amendment that says sex is between a man and a woman?”
_____
LMAO!
J.Leo admits he thought the ’scoop’ was coming out Sat.5/13 PM in NYT/WaPo…so it was run with ‘beating the competition’ topmost in mind.
Admits the report itself may have actually influenced events after he ‘broke’ the story (changed what was about to happen)
Last question: Any regrets? J.Leo – ‘No’.
-30-
Oh honey,EVERYBODY knows about Condi and Gwen. Hell, nearly everybody knows about Condi’s College Adventures too. She’s like Jodie Foster. Just not as smart.
And Rumsfeld is married to Mrs. Joyce Rumsfeld.
I believe there was an Onion article about this some months back.
QUESTION: What does it mean when investigative journalism investigates one political party and/or party players in favor of gaining the favor of another political party?

OT (not about sex):
===White House Raps Viguerie for ‘Wash Post’ Op-Ed, He Responds
NEW YORK It started innocently enough, with an op-ed in this past Sunday’s Washington Post, written by Richard A. Viguerie, a leading figure in the conservative political revolution of the 1970s and 1980s, generally described as a “direct mail genius.” His opinion piece was only the latest from a conservative icon to charge that President Bush had betrayed his conservative base.
But Viguerie went a little farther, urging conservatives to stop donating to the Republican National Committee.
[]Continuing his assault, he appeared yesterday for a Post online chat, writing or saying at one point, “It is not entirely true that Bush has betrayed everyone. The 1% of his voter support that came from big business corporate America – he’s been truthful to them. They have gotten the legislation, the appointments; I can’t think of any issue that they have strongly supported where Bush has opposed them.”
[]This inspired a direct response from the White House, as described by Viguerie in a press statement today:===
When he was interviewed by Ian Masters, “J.Leo” came across to me as a self-promoter rather than as a journalist. IIRC, he kept taking the interview to issues re: his own credibility and his own past and…himself. I’m no Pach, but if I had to hazard a guess, I’d say that he wants to become the story. So he’s now kind of a sideshow while we wait for the main event.
If we’re going to speculate about him and truthout .com as we watch the days go down to dust, let’s contemplate the answers to some questions:
Who are his exclusive sources?
How did he develop them?
Why has he backed off his threat to out them?
Why is there zero corroborating evidence so far, including his own promised follow-up?
Enquiring minds want to know that ‘way more than anything about Condi’s personal life, to which, in all seriousness, she’s perfectly entitled.
and for good measure, where is the front pager about which member of the Bush Administration was consorting with a male prostitute? I still am holding out for W himself given his bald fetish.
Oh, great. Now Tweety is covering the fact that the NYT is covering the Clintons’ marriage.
I’ve heard that some are leaving comments at the NYT website about this ridiculous article. Anyone have a link?
Dare I think that Viguerie is coming out of the closet? Has this man with his history of fascistic proclivites and twisting of the truth turning over a new leaf?
58, re Condi: “You know, I forget where, but I’ve heard that before–the Broncos thing. A long time ago.”
Not to add fuel to the fire, but Condi is known to have aspirations of becoming Commissioner to the NFL…so she does have a demonstrable interest in men of the gridiron. Whether that interest be chaste or salacious, one can only guess at.
Tangentially, in an unguarded moment, she once referred in public to Dubya as “my husband.”
My mind reels at the thought of Madeleine Albright showing up in Europe on one of her diplomatic jaunts in a black leather cutaway skirt and spiked boots, as Condi did recently. Or for that matter, Colin Powell.
The thing with Republican sexuality is that it is fueled in the cauldron of repressed and unslaked desire for the whatever it is they are condemning at the moment.
Gilmore is a pukebot- divorced from the bushbots now and just spouting “morality”. He says: These people (the Clinton’s) are so different from you…….do not vote for anyone alternative to yer interests. Stay faithful and I promise you a private, discarded and unused FEMA trailer that you kin get yer kicks in. wink, wink, getcher guns and chaw and hooch– we’re gonna win! ain’t me or nobody gonna tell you how to live– I’ll gar- an- tee it. S.O.S.
Re ‘withdrawing’ and the general tenor of the thread, I saw a t-shirt yesterday: a picture of Bush #41 and below it, “I should have pulled out!”
Tweety just promised “much more on Bill and Hillary Clintons’ marriage” right after the break.
Ron Zuber- google for Brian Calame NYT ombuds. One of his pages has an email addy. That’s the only contact means I know. (sorry, rushed, or I would try to find it for you)
Why aren’t people speculating about W and Condi. Don’t they work out together every morning etc.
If any of those Rethuglicans, married or not have sex, I hope they use double or triple condoms. We certainly don’t want anymore of them!
She reeks of kink.
Why’s everyone letting Karl off the hook? Isn’t he single? Karl + Harriet? (No sex, though. They’d be the WH poster couple.)
Condi’s gap-toothed, like the Wife of Bath. All medievalists know that’s an indisputable sign of sexual voraciousness in a woman.
While this was the week that rat science revealed that Chimps had been interbreeding with people for years it was also the week where I wavered.
Yes folks, sadly since Mimi Miyagi came out as a candidate I’ve been contemplating becoming a pant’s down Republican. I’m sorry but she’s still beautiful and I still have those tapes of her taking it hard up the arse. I know anal sex queen Nina Hartley is a dem but I know political pornography when I see it. As my German helmet stands up so shall my fingers stand down. Die loaded, die hard and most important of all…die bold.
I had a revelation: it’s all about sex to the right wing religious nuts and those who pander to them: same sex sex, teen sex, sex for sale, singles’ sex, presidential sex… all the other issues [family, abstinance, abortion, nudity, porn, white women gone missing or seducing their students] are variations on one theme: paternalistic dominance through controlling sexual expression. Taken to extremes, it’s the Taliban.
Thank goodness Christy’s fingers didn’t stray over the keyboard and hit the letter “n” instead of “l” in the above such self-control is …. naudabne ooops laudable
What shocked and disgusted me more than the NYT article (because, let’s face facts, this was the paper of Whitwater), was watching Tweety tonight and, knowing he’d be having a field day with this, seeing one Mr BOB HERBERT OF THE TIMES OP-ED PAGE sitting with him and talking about how this is a proper thing for people to bring up because the story just reflected what was opn everyone’s mind.
I have to say, my opinion of Herbert, after seeing him on Tweety’s show, dropped right into the cellar. Sorry Bob, explain yourself or we’re done. And I don’t want to hear any self righteous “I’m not news I’m editorial’ bullshit either. Tell us really why, with everything else that’s going on, you think that THIS was the story to put on the front page AND THEN you go on Cable Nets and gossip about it like a 14 year old girl.
I never really noticed it before this current picture of Condi, but, is she a member of Star Trek?
And if so, it never occured to me that Star Trek looked so, well, S & M.
Karl Rove is married to Darby Rove, and here is her pitcher. No ragging on her appearance, please.

Was standing in line at checkout tonight and saw the headline in “The Globe” tabloid. Something about how George and Laura were having nightly brawls and he was drinking alot. Could that explain why the New York Times saw fit to discuss Hillary and Bills marital state? Diversion from the scandal sheets….typical tactic. Just why is the NYT so pathetic??????? So corrupt??????
“Does anyone else see how ridiculous this could get, if they keep going down this “journalistic” path?)”
uuuhhh excuse me, but I don’t see any journalists going down this road other than the bloggeri of left blogostan (if its ok to put bloggers in the same sentence with almighty journalists).
I see the NY Times making front page trash tabloid articles about the Clintons for no particular reason, while corporate media quickly lost interest in the republican prostitution and gambling scandal in DC, and yes, paying no attention at all to whether or not the ‘abstinence for thee, not for me’ republicans are walking the walk of their bullshit.
.
You know, I really, really don’t care about other people’s sex lives. Takes too much energy from my own. So I don’t care if Condi has the Baby Jesus butt plug* up her ass in that picture (I might wonder if it’s asphixiation blue or rag red, if she is packing).
I was gonna say that if the media’s gonna start sniffing crotches, why sniff only Dem crotches, why not…? Then I sort of threw up in my mouth at the idea of sniffing the alternative.
* Oh that asterisk was to warn that the linkee was NOT to a work-friendly site.
Uh, pluege, the point IS that we don’t want them pursuing this nonsense any further, and to stop sniffing only certain crotches while ignoring the rank smell coming from the other ones. All or none. There is no middle ground here.
Heck! It’s time to take a polllllll. “Do you think Condi is savin’ it! Yes er NO?”
fdl doesn’t have the crafty software for those neato bar graphs, then contract it out to Kos. But Veets Gate Moobin! [to quote FiresignTheatre]
I’d actually enjoy being taken over Condi’s knee for nice round of OTK…then again, that’s just about all she’s good for…
And would the journalists learn that the Bush women chose to or have to sleep in flannel nightgowns with a closed drawstring?
Something about those pasted on grimaces they all wear indicates a tense morning after!
