It just happened. Connecticut Bob just called, and with just under half the votes cast, Ned Lamont forced the primary. 243-512, WOOO HOOO!!!!!
Bob also says the response to Lieberman’s nomination speech, given by Chris Dodd, was extremely tepid and people were talking over Dodd the whole time. When Bush’s favorite Democrat entered the room, his volunteers tried to get things going by using those annoying thunder sticks, and the accompanying music was (I kid you not) "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Bennetar. Because, you know, he’s going to stand up to that Ned Lamont because Joe Lieberman is a fighter, dammit. Bob is going to need combat pay for his "Worst Moments of VH1" endurance contest. Only a Republican could pick anything that bad.
There was a time when a vital center coalition existed in the Senate, where there was room on both sides for trading votes across party lines. The Republicans destroyed that coalition and Lieberman, inexplicably, doesn’t seem to get that. Even worse, when the shit comes down, he inevitably sides with them. Many Democrats took a long time to learn the harsh lessons of GOP political hardball and had to lose to a bunch of thuggish right-wingers before they began to recognize what they were up against. Lieberman still refuses to accept the fact that his high minded centrism is a weapon in the hands of the radical Republicans.
The netroots are bringing some heat from the partisans and even if Lamont loses maybe this will move Lieberman’s ass a little bit back to the party that brung him. That is not illegitimate politics. It is the only way to educate him apparently. He certainly has not listened to anything else.
I’m not sure I’m on board with the notion of Lieberman as "high minded" — I think he’s a grubby little opportunist whose commitment to "values" is about as genuine as Ralph Reed’s opposition to "gambllng."
Bob is saying that there was an anti-war demonstration earlier, and Matt Stoller reports that when Dodd was speaking about supporting the troops, people were hollering "bring ‘em home!" I guess the dissatisfaction with Holy Joe is not just in the blogosphere.
Thanks to everyone who contributed their time, their money and their support to this effort. This is really cool.
Update: Matt Stoller just called to say that since Ned has already gotten the votes he needs, people may start casting their votes for Lieberman so as not to cross his threatening, vindictive highness. Ned has been running at 30% but if he winds up with even 20% Lieberman is in big, big trouble. This is WAY IN EXCESS of anything anyone expected. Holy Joe must be reeling. The battle is on and you can support Ned here.
Update II: Connecticut Bob called once again to give the final unofficial tally — Lieberman 1014, Lamont 497. That puts Ned at roughly 33%, WILDLY in excess of what they anticipated. The Lamont people are jumping around, hi-fiving each other, slapping each other on the back. Rape Gurney Joe’s people are wandering around in a daze, wondering what hit ‘em.
Three words: "a short ride."

BYE Joe! Go Ned!

Amazing! Now CNN can stop reporting about Britney and report some real news.
got no pics happening on the site. something going on with it?
Canadian here, but way to go.
Fabulous. Link to site to donate.
Go Ned!!!!
OT -> Truthout has sorta kinda retracted Leopold’s story.
“On Saturday afternoon, May 13, 2006, TruthOut ran a story titled, “Karl Rove Indicted on Charges of Perjury, Lying to Investigators.” The story stated in part that top Bush aide Karl Rove had earlier that day been indicted on the charges set forth in the story’s title.
The time has now come, however, to issue a partial apology to our readership for this story. While we paid very careful attention to the sourcing on this story, we erred in getting too far out in front of the news-cycle. In moving as quickly as we did, we caused more confusion than clarity. And that was a disservice to our readership and we regret it.
As such, we will be taking the wait-and-see approach for the time being. We will keep you posted.”
Marc Ash, Executive Director – t r u t h o u t

I got the pic BCian.
anyone else experiencing that?
Excellent!! Congratulations, Ned!
Yeah NED!
Loved your post last thread zennurse!! I’m right there with ya.
Uh…Clem, right on!
fitz! and ned!
Nedtastic!!!
Considering that lots of those delegates were voting for Lieberman under pressure, I’d say we’re in GREAT shape for the primary!
BCian_ya, yes, it’s happening to a lot of us since there was a server change this morning. Word is it should resolve itself in time. The previous thread has some tech tips, though.
Go Ned, GO!
Lamont is our foundation. Success attracts money. I’m sending $100. What say ye?
full disclosure: i live in oregon.
YIPPEE-TIE-ONE-ON, PARDNERS!!!!!
That’s great news. Lieberman wasn’t even able to strongarm his way out of a primary in this setting… how does he think he’s going to fare now that his fate is in the hands of the voters?
I thought there was a lot to be said for the notion that Ned would get shut out tonight and then have to force a primary via petition. Obviously, it would get his name out there pretty effectively, and would also show that grassroots can be stronger than party politics.
But damn… Ned forces the primary tonight before even half the votes were in?? That’s huge.
Amen, baby, amen!

Ned!
30%ish. Nice.
I’m in the convention, and it’s totally frickin’ incredible. I met up with CTBob earlier, while he was on the phone, and can confidently say that this convention will be well documented for those who were unable to attend.
I’ve got some pictures up here: Flickr Photostream of CTConvention
And I’m also blogging the event live at La Resistance.
good on Ned, and all his local supporters!
Fairfield “realizing that our country and Sean Hannity’s favorite Democrat is going in the wrong direction” goes 18-6 Lamont.
‘Allo there, Ya Rat Bastahd, Ya!
So, Truthout is now backpedaling on their Rove story. I’m not sure what “getting too far out in front of the news-cycle” has to do with the price of rubber johnnies in Ipswitch, but I think it’s pretty obvious that they jumped the gun and went with a half-assed story, regardless of how strong they still claim their sourcing to have been.
I hope Truthout learns a valuable lesson from this. This is exactly the sort of screw-up that Internet news sites, particularly progressive ones, should NOT still be making.
WHAT! I didn’t expect this, I didn’t dare hope almost–wonderful! YAY NED!
No doubt CNN will cover this is a crushing, expected victory for Holy Joe
I gotta say, if you are going to challenge an incumbent Dem in a primary this election, I don’t see how you could do any better than Lamont. Totally cool candidate. If he scares any Dem appartchiks and visionless consultants and incumbants as a wild eyed, teenage, radical leftist loon living in ma and pa’s basement (you know, typical “lefty” blogger) then they are truly beyond hope and incurably timid scaredycats.
I’m glad there will be a primary. So, OK, I have been skeptical, but primary=good. Some kind of endless nasty series of caucus fights would not be so good. But I think primary is good.

Southbury(Southberry?), who proudly asked Senator Joe Liebermann to speak back in February and is still waiting for a return call proudly casts 5 votes for Ned Lamont and 3 absent. Hilarious
241 votes needed for 15%, Lamont has 476 right now.
I should be going home, but I want to wait until the vote is over and get the total! This is so cool.
The people of Connecticut are just unsettled.
Way to go Nederootski.

My sons lived with their father for awhile in NE Conn, Salisbury, Lakeville, Canaan area which has been significantly for Lamont. A bunch of movie and artsy folks live there, Meryl Streep, Jill Clayburgh, Whoopi and a number of writers and book illustrators. Very liberal and lovely area.
They should kick out my ex-husband, but after the election- he’s as liberal as I am and frequently goes to marches and demonstrations in NYC.
I am thinking this will be a big fat raspberry to fat cat Repugs who think a little action on the gay marriage nonsense is going to rally the base. Lots of that base is now with us.

darkblack 50 – back at ya, a song for Joe:
Smash Mouth- Allstar
Somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me, I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed. Well he was lookin’ kinda dumb with his finger and his thumb and the shape of an L on his forehead……
“We asked for a visit from Lieberman in February and we’re still waiting for a call back. Simsbury proudly casts 5 votes for Ned Lamont.”
Neditize the future!
A funny thing about democracy — people actually vote.
I HATE salisbury steak — it was forced on me as a child and makes me gag to this day…
But I l-l-l-love Simsbury Conn.
Wow. This is amazing, and exciting, and and and… It isn’t just conservative Democratic incumbents who will we worried by this, though. It’s party bosses. By all reports, Joementum put the arm on them big time, and they couldn’t deliver. They just don’t make lackeys like they used to.
So it looks like the voting is over – does anyone have a final tally?
VG 65 — I think it was “Simsbury?”
You could feel the groundswell for Ned… Now it is the time to hit the streets and get the word out.
This will be a wake up call for Joementum.
Go Ned!~
Ned got about a third of the votes — over twice what he needed!
nedroots, holy sh*t! Over 50% of the vote for Ned? That’s amazing.
VG 65 – or is that “veggie”? – no worries
Over 50% of the vote for Ned?
Well, no. :) It’s ~ 500/1500.
Liebermans ass tartare!

“Senator Ned Lamont” – anyone else like the sound of that?
They just announced final tally: 505 Lamont, 1004 Lieberman
Ned got over twice what he needed !
From Matt Stoller’s live blog: Unofficial Final Count: Lamont at 33% (this will probably drop a few points).

Matt Stoller says: 33.4% for Lamont

Leslie in CA, you pulled a “Diebold”! :)
A GREAT end to a very sad day.
On my previous post…I thought Southbury, but on Mydd they’re saying Simsbury…..it was one of those “burys”
You’re still the one? That was so hokey and the four or five Lieberman supporters dancing in the back…well….urgh
Valley Girl @ 5:50 pm (#86) – If that count holds, it’s 33.46 % according to my calculator utility.
Okay, ‘night everyone. Maybe catch you on Late Nite.
The Lamont site said “Southbury” who invited Liebs but never mind!!!!!!!
An impressive accomplishment for the blogosphere in general, and FireDogLake in particular. What is that strange feeling I’m having? Could it be… hope?
Congratulations!
And, um, this is Lamont support from the smaller towns. Aren’tthe cities supposed to be farther left? Curious.
Could it be… hope?
Swim in it!
B Muse 36 — where did you get that quote? That’s a frigging post in itself.
Lieberman isn’t even at the convention? Somebody else is making his acceptance speech.
it was fun listening to the different towns tear joe apart in voting for ned.

What a great accomplishment for Ned and his team.
And I think this lady on the live feed ought to get a clue. Does Ned get to speak, too?
Just donated to Ned’s campaign for the third time. I have to say this is pretty exciting!
Southbury, Simsbury, Salisbury:

Good. All that effort and support paid off.
Quick note on a typo – it is Pat Benatar not Bennetar. (Yes, I’m old.)
And Ned? WHOOOOOOO-H0OOOO0000000
Bustednuckles,
I for one am happy there was no indictment anouncement today — I have next Wednesday in the FDL pool!
As a Jew, let me just say: Now -this- is a good shabbos.
Ned ad on Mets v. Yanks. Local Hart Ch. 20. WB outlet. Mets feed. Strangely, just looked up at the end; mute on – saw flash of face, fade to name. A virtual blipvert for me.
Jane,
The quote is on MyDD.
Joe got the sikorski and the groton vote… of course… Ned picked up his support in the small towns!
We need to work on Bridgeport it has a large black vote and its delegate went for Joey.
OMG! Well, if we can’t have an indictment of Rovie today, we’ll take an indictment of Lieberfleece. Great work, netroots! I see popcorn in our future.
And how’s this for a poll?
Lieberman: Putz or K’nocker?
Rosa DiLauro
Great work Connecticut — and Ned Lamont. It is exciting. Now, what does this mean for the primary — can we assume that these numbers are reflective of what the primary will show — But giving Lieberman a run for his money and forcing him to spend time and money in a primary will make him work harder?
Nancy DiLauro? acceptance speech (drivel)
From Liebs: I want to thank you the delegates for nominiation me for a 4th term in the US Senate, for all of you have supported me I want you to know that I will work hard in the months ahead, and for all of those who did not support me I am going to work just as hard to earn your trust… blah blah… challenges…
Well not so much applause… maybe no one waited around to hear her…
By my math, there were also over 100 abstentions, which equal a vote of no-confidence for Joe.
Amazing results, way to go NED!
In the words of the immortal Chris Farley:
YESSSS!!! YESSS!!! YEAHH!!
and for all of those who did not support me…
Looks like this is going to be an opportunity to see how little a man Joe actually is.
Yaaayyy!!
I felt so bad when Paul Hacket lost, bad when Ciro lost.
I felt bad about my spelling too.
Jane: Please post your ActBlue page link. It’s time to give Ned some money for the August primary, since he no longer needs to spend it to get on the ballot! What a terrific showing. This makes up for another no-Fitz Friday. Thank you, Connecticut Democrats, for standing up for what’s good and true!

shoephone,
re: last thread and describing you as being “incendiary.” No, I was just being tongue-in-cheek, and meant incendiary as in you effectively lit a fire under my butt. A good thing. Will look for your mail, and thanks.
Hot damn, aren’t we muscular and a bag of chips?
Congrats! There will be some troubled dreams in wimpy incumbant land tonight.
I felt bad about my spelling too.
Mine to.
Congratulations to Ned Lamont on a great showing. Did the Lieberman side resort to any arm-twisting, a la Daley of 1968 Chicago infamy, or was this an all around fair vote?
Someone asked about Lieberman’s absence. From the 2000 campaign I remember it being said that he is very observant of the Jewish Sabbath, and did not campaign from sundown Friday to sundown on Saturday. I am a lot critical of Lieberman but I respect his lifelong religious faith in such matters.
Hello Hillary and Schumey! Wake up and smell the brake shoes.
Anybody know how Stars Hollow voted?
he missed sundown, actually the candles are to be lit just prior to the sun going down on him, he is however, encouraged to go to have a pity party boink tonite with his crestfallen wife.
GrandmaJ 124, these were mostly “machine dems” and 1/3 turned on a 3 term senator.
This does not auger well when people on the street vote in the primaries. Obviously Ned is getting a lot of support out there and it is RISING. He came from no where pretty quick and Joey is holding on to the hardline machine vote.
With some hardwork on the street, Joe might be sitting this one out!
update on numbers……Ned 505, HolyJoe 1004
and he wasn’t there to give the acceptance speech.
Jane- that quote #36 B Muse probably came from listening to the internet broadcast- that’s where I heard it (my #48) and tried to transcribe to best of my memory- *ilson also has a version at #68
I got “Southbury” from the Lamont site, but most seem to think it was “Simsbury”
Angie, does that mean he explodes in flames or turns to dust or some sort of nosferatu-esque ending?
Jane 101 – I was listening to the livestream. I followed links at Mydd and found it. I think Matt has a more accurate quote at MyDD. I was typing as I was listening and I’ve never been a good stenographer.
Valleygirl – I swear I heard Southbury and that’s what I wrote down on my sheet where I was actually tallying the votes.
The quote is here on MyDD.
As Punaise said…Joe got buried.
Goddamn, we won one! Suck on this, Lieberman.
Considering Joe had the power of incumbency, cash and party organization : for Ned to get a third of the delegates is utterly flabbergasting. Many of those Lieberman votes were ‘coerced’ by party machinery – patronage is still important in politics. Local party bosses delivered . . .
And, there is a Southbury, a Simsbury, AND a Salisbury, CT.
Let’s just say all three of them are pissed off at tired ole Joe.
Angie, we’re gonna have to move back to Ct and make Stamford get its act together.
Anyone else having the preview feature screw up when inserting tags?

heh. my daughter should know. she’s watched just about every episode of Gilmore Girls.
Hello Hillary and Schumey! Wake up and smell the brake shoes.
altho there’s no chance in hell her campaign is gonna feel any pressure, this still has to be a huge kick inthe ass to all those vichy dems… finally some good news.
Simsbury came knocking and nobody was home. Sad. Adios, Jose.

Hey gang,
HOORAY!
Just sent this to Leiberman’s Senate website:
Senator Leiberman:
I’ve written you several times in the recent past – exhorting you to be true to Democratic principles, most recently with regard to the Alito vote. I found your vote for cloture a stab in the back, a betrayal of bedrock progressive values. I suppose I should not have been surprised, as betraying fellow Democrats seems to be your stock-in-trade. I’m writing this evening to gloat, however. I follow politics closely, and it appears your paired strategies of artificially raising expectations re Lamont’s showing, and your fairly naked show of power within the CT Democratic party have both failed miserably. Your days in the Senate whoring for George Bush are indeed numbered, methinks. By the way, I just sent the Lamont campaign another contribution. May you enjoy your golden years in peace – do you fish?
I guess it works for me.
Urban Pirate– don’t think he’ll do any of that– (though if the scary monsters of my youth really existed, he would!). We have worser, scarier living ghouls now that are all too real.
Liar, liar pants on fire seems apt, though. I just want him to crawl back under the rock he emerges from as a pretender and stay there where he can’t do any more damage to our country by spewing platitudes that are meaningless and misleading to the voters.
Don’tcha wonder about those DLC calls on Saturday, from Chuck, Hillary, Harry, Evan, and DiFi?
“Hello, Joe, sorry to hear about the convention….”
“Oh, no, Senator DINO, I received two-thirds of my party’s vote against an upstart with lots of netroots support, whatever that is! Haddasah and I are delighted!”
“Whatever, Joe, see ya at LaBrea Tar Pits!”

“We asked for a visit from Lieberman in February and we’re still waiting for a call back. Simsbury proudly casts 5 votes for Ned Lamont.”
(I do remember now the “and 3 absent” part). But..?
salisbury 3
simsbury 6 6
southbury 5
It has to be Southbury from the vote totals at #66
I’m pretty certain it is Southbury. There were 5 votes for Lamont and 3 absent or abstained.
The election tonight in Connecticut has huge symbolic meaning. If Ned Lamont can beat Lieberman (and I believe he can) it will send a powerful message to Dems running for President in 2008. Pro-war Dems like Clinton and Kerry should take note.
“Hit me with your best shot” = “Bring it on”

“HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman was nominated for a fourth term by state Democrats tonight, but his anti-war challenger garnered enough delegates to force a primary in August.
Backers of Ned Lamont, a Greenwich businessman who has sharply criticized the moderate senator for his support of the war in Iraq, shouted with delight after learning their candidate will be the first to challenge Lieberman to a primary.”

…Joe needs to get a new supporter from commander codpiece’s personal lingerie stockpile– the old one wore out– frayed it’s busted.
doh. you mean Joe’s gonna unravel?
Thanks DefJef — I had forgotten ‘machine politics’ dems. I can only imagine that his name recognition is only beginniing to filter to the regular guys. And would think that putting a spotlight on all of Joe’s ‘kind’ words for bush would push Joe down further. And all that Joe has done and said to get his war going in Iraq — only hope Ned has his hip boots on.
Joe can count on Bush to send rove to help him. [kidding, kinda]
Of course this is about money. Ned now can stop spending on his petition drive. Lieberman must be apoplectic. Lieberman has a huge war chest but,

And, TeddySanFran. No one is calling Joe –

The tags work on the thread but seem to disable the preview box when I use them. Anything I type after the tag disappears and I have to hope it comes out all right when I submit it.
yep, punaise– happening as we weave this thread!
RevDeb let me try again. I rarely watch the preview box because it lags behind what I type.
Preview is still working for me. I can’t imagine what the problem is.
Netromancer @165 – oh that makes it even worse. One of the announcers was moving on to an introduction and they made her stop so they could play the song. It was pretty silly…I mean, the moment was gone. Actually, the moment didn’t appear to have ever been there.
believe me: DC insiders are taking note of the CT Dem. Convention. Considering the levers that Joe had, for his challenger to get a third of the delegates is awful. Evan Bayh is retriangulating as we speak !

===[]Before the convention, Lieberman said he believes Lamont will hurt other party hopefuls if he continues his battle for the congressional seat.
“I think it’s going to be harmful of our party and the chances of our congressional candidate, our Democratic challengers and our gubernatorial candidates,” he said “But it’s his decision.”
[]”Why would I pull out?” Lamont asked. “Everywhere I go, no one is saying, ‘Oh my God, you’re hurting the party.”‘
State Rep. Tim O’Brien, D-New Britain, a Lamont supporter, said said he believes the looming Democratic primary is fueling interest in all Democratic candidates this election season.
“This is a race about the heart and soul of the party,” he said.===
joementum, meet reNeducation
then get the hell out of the way
Thrilled for Ned, Bob Adams, Nutmeggers, & progressives everywhere !!!
and Jane Hamsher good god! thank you so much for keeping us all out front on this – giving people a palpable sense of hope after these long 5 1/2 years is beyond mensch – this is so much more than a decent guy’s win – you have done a very good thing indeed
RevDeb, I’ve been experiencing the same problem. I just double-check my tags carefully before submitting, and so far, it comes out right.

Lieberman tried to smooth things over with an afternoon barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers and wine in the Expo parking lot.
Tom Foley, a delegate from West Hartford, sat under Lieberman’s tent eating dinner. He said the senator called him a few weeks ago and they had a long discussion about Iraq.
“We agreed to disagree,” he said.
Foley said he’s backing Lieberman, but he’s glad Lamont has brought attention to Lieberman’s controversial support of the war.
“I think the message has been sent and I’m hoping it’s been received,” Foley said.
In ‘04 the CW was that primaries use money and turn off voters because they sometimes get ugly. That’s what our guys kept saying. Meanwhile the ‘pugs had quite a few contested primaries and IIRC all or almost all of the candidates in contested R primaries went on and won the general election.
Primaries are good for honing message and discipline. In Ned’s case it will certainly raise his name recognition. If he were to then take down Joementum, he would have a full head of steam going into the general.
Who will the R be in the general? Anyone know?
Foley’s a fogey and more…
mebbe a bush, revdeb– they have deep, though rotten, CT roots after all…
How can anyone take a man seriously, who, after coming in 5th in a 2004 presidential primary, rallied his loyal troops with, “Yay we tied for 3rd”?
Hoorah! for Ned!
And also congratulations! to my 2 sisters in Connecticut who have been on the phone for Ned via firedoglake. Yea!
“Who will the R be in the general? Anyone know?”
Lieberman?
I’m a Nutmegger. While I’m not happy with Joementum, I’m not sure I’ll be any happier with the Nedster. He’s got a boatload of Halliburton stock himself. And he’s a TRUE blueblood preppie. I have more in common with Joe, to be honest, than I do with Ned. I would rather see the Dems sink their teeth into getting rid of Nancy Johnson, Rob Simmons, and Chris Shays than tearing each other apart over Joey. I’m not convinced that Ned is any more of a Democrat than Joe is.
I have to do my Friday night “early to bed” thing and just wanted to ask that all of us bask in this victory for the weekend. The energy on this blog is astounding and the honest, heartfelt work everyone does keeping each other informed certainly helps me remain centered in the face of rolling disasters. I plan to feel this every waking moment and to use it to remind myself that things can change if we care enough and work hard enough together, like Ned’s team has. We are fortunate to have a place to come for action, not just a bunch of empty comments and complaining with every fifth post a stupid challenge from the latest visitor from LGF; we have Jane, Christy and Pach to thank for that. But we hold up our end of the bargain and we deserve to celebrate right along with the voters of CT who have raised the bar for the smug GOP Congress. It appears that we are truly “Crashing the Gate” here in the netroots by paying attention. It may not be as easy as sipping kool aid, but it is a lot more thirst quenching.
Have a great weekend.

ps I really miss Mrs K8.
Harold Koh of Yale Law School on Lehrer News Hour speaking about Guantanimo and torture in a compelling and damning way against the current practices as promulgated by BushCo. What a breath of fresh air. He returns again and again to the violation of Geneva Conventions and asking of US authorities, what part of “never” don’t you understand? Saying that there is an hypocrisy within the US and absolutely no accountability given the way this administration has carried out its policies. He emphasizes that it’s not only immoral, it’s a CRIME.
BushCo lawyer on now rebutting using lies, obfuscation, and general twisting of reality. These people are incredible, dispicable crooks.
Might I be so bold as to say that FDL is leading the blogosphere and they are the influencing factors in this outcome.
I’d say that I’m proud of all of you if it weren’t so condescending.
What I find very interesting (after spending some time in Fairfield Co. CT) is that the high rent districts went for Mr. Lamont. not the establishment Ho, Joe.
What do the locals of this?

Thanks hungrycoyote.
Didn’t know if it was me or my machine. It is one of those tech glitches that I hope our net wizards can take care of. If they don’t know it is happening, they don’t know it needs attention.
With all of the wizardry they have been doing just to get things up and running, it probably isn’t high on the list, but would be great to have working again.
ex-Foley-ate too much
nite nite zennurse, I am following you to dreamland.
FDL? Y’all are winners.
Hoorah for Deborah’s sisters!
Grow and Go, Ned!
lemond54– what do you have in common with Joe?
PS I want Shays gone too!
that was me at 183, have no idea who zennurseit’s is. Sounds like a disease.
Franklin Roosevelt was quite the patrician but his politics were good for the “average American”. In general, I tend to be distrustful of rich politicians but sometimes they can be better than the alternative.
gesundheit, zennurse and sleep well!
Night Zennurse – I was just thinking how nice its been to have time to chat tonight. Even when I don’t chat, I do stop by to read. FDL has served as a bit of a compass for me.
I also have to turn in early. Congratulations everyone who worked so hard to help Ned Lamont. First primary and that should provide CT with some transparency.
This is BIG! Now the first election day of 06 will be in Ct and it will be about the War and President Bush’s friends. We in Ct have a chance to send a message to all of America and the World by voting NO to War!!! The Washington Club will hear us and they had better start to listen or they too will find themselves in the same spot as Holier-than-all-others Joe. The Aug. 8th primary will be an eight on the richter scale if Ned blows Joe away, so if you can help in anyway that you can. Blessed are the peacemakers….
tis time for an apricot scrub- a- dub and peel for the DINO’s — expose the truth!
that 195 was for punaise!
*ilson- yes- like Kennedy vs. Nixon. Nixon tried to get a lot of mileage from Pat’s “Republican cloth coat”
What Ned needs now is a bat — to show Joe we are going to match his DLC fundraisers with boxlunch fundraisers, ala Dean. Or may I am just wistful for old times …
Like Lieberman, I’ve had to earn my money. Ned inherited oodles of money. Philips Exeter Academy didn’t take too many scholarship students, or Jews, I’d wager, when Neddie attended.
Raw intelligence wise, I’d wager that Lieberman would mop the floor with Neddie.
Just got home from my trip and must attend to family.
But this is my happiest day in politics. We’re gonnae win this primary and take over the Democratic Party. We ride a rising tide. ¡Si se puede!
Thanks Jane and Christy for helping us realize the true significance of the race in Connecticut. What happened tonight is hugely important for the future of our country. My hope is that some of the liberal “hawks” like Hillary Clinton, will get the message. We don’t want their fuckin’ war.
lemond54 — I’m extraordinarily suspicious of you showing up in the comments section right now.
lemond54, I would guess right off that you are a strong supporter of the war in Iraq. Ned is probably more business friendly than some of us are comfortable with, but that is leaps improvement over Joe’s shilling for Bush, the worst President EVER.
Ned is much better on womens’ issues but most of all Ned will not pander to Bush. End of story.
Gee, Lemon, I guess you hate FDR and JFK, too, and would have preferred ol’ Tricky Dick, since he worked his way up from poverty.
Boo fucking hoo. I’m blue collar, the real thing. I belong to a union and work the crap job. I come from rural East Texas roots, you can’t imagine the poverty I knew as a child, but one thing my FDR/JFK LOVING grandparents taught me: You don’t support somebody who stabs you in the back–especially when he’s one of your own. He’s worse than the rich person who hurts you, because he’s a traitor to all that you are.
New Guy,
Unlike Lieberman, it doesn’t appear Ned Lamont would act like, well, Lieberman.
Doubtful one Dem has done more to hurt the democratic party or the progressive platform(not to mention a woman’s right to choose) more than Holy Joe.
If you’re afraid of Lamont because he came from money or is well educated, well, I think you should reconsider.
WoW – “Grandma says: Your comment is awaiting moderation.” Who knew.
Kinda OT, but John McCain was not warmly received at the New School –

NEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD!!!
A THIRD??? WOW!
I know Lieberman has the war chest, but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand — Dollars. ;-) CT needs to be plastered with pics of Bush hugging Joe – with some kind of captions like “Joe Leiberman is Bush’s favorite Democrat. Sidepanel – Ned Lamont is the grassroots favorite Candidate. Summary: This August YOU BE THE DECIDER!
Actually – just the Lierberman – GWB’s favorite Dem – over and over and over and over and everywhere.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Meta 184 – thanks. We should have Koh-s and Mora-s coming out of the woodwork everywhere – instead we have Yoo-s and Gonzales-s and — well, you’ve seen what we have. No Keith-s these days, but throw a dart blindfolded and you’ll hit a Kavanaugh. *s*
lemond54–
So, you will vote against your interests based on what? That someone was born with money and developed with a conscience? I think you should try to shove the chip off your shoulder and dig in to what really matters. Joe boy has been mighty priviledged as far as I can tell and has been a pretender to the throne he has been occupying for far too long, imho. My parents struggled mightily and I don’t judge people that way at all; only the asswipe pretenders!
PS– I worked all my life in a service profession and made my own way with a great education that I earned and feel no ill will toward the rich and powerful other than against those who use their power to murder and conquer.
sorry for the passionate typos!
test
PS and I have a horrific aversion to anyone who tries to take away my rights as a woman, human or American!
Joementum can spin it any way he wants, he was a loser tonight, and Lamont became a giant. One third of the votes against Liebo’s machine, by a political unknown, says something. Wait til we see how the actual grassroots–not the party insiders–vote in the primary. I can imagine Joe, after he loses, going crawling on his knees to Bush and saying, c’mon, about that secretary of defense positon, you promised me…and Bush saying, “I don’t know you, loserman.”
Posting is trashed for Safari users at comment #59 in the Sadly,No! thread.
I have to admit, I thought it would have to come down to the signature drive but this is AMAZING. I feel like this primary actually became more competative. Can you imagine the fall out if Ned actually did beat Joe in the democratic primary what kind of signal that would send to the entire party??? Every Democrat would realize no matter what state, be it New York, California or South Dakota, you’re not in a safe seat. This would force all those with presidential ambitions who try to have it both ways to focus on their state.
I appreciate the effort and necessity to unseat Liebermann. I have reservations about Lamont’s “old school New England money” background. No one seems to acknowledge in their frenzy to dump Joe, that once again only the wealthy white males get to play the game. The Gated Community offers up another ‘candidate’.
And, meanwhile, here in WA, a true progressive from the ranks of the non privileged is attempting to unseat traitor Maria Cantwell in our states Democratic primary. Mark Wilson has the spiel that we all want to hear and is not a wealthy insider. But without publicity and funding he won’t beat Miss Alito Gated Community and her white wealthy war chest. How come so much from “progressives” for Lamont and so little for candidates that are not “financially endowed”? Little bit of a discrepancy here? This is, after all, Maria Cantwell, traitor to every woman on this planet, pro Iraq war and proud of it@!!
