Things are heating up in the Connecticut primary. Our FDL correspondent Connecticut Bob just called to say that the Lieberman tent is as big as a football field, they have a live band, people are walking around with tuxedos serving sushi. I guess that if you have to pay for your love, pretentious displays of opulent wealth and gross GOP ostentation probably serve a purpose — if only to intimidate local politicos into submission. Which seems to be what is happening.
Says Matt Stoller, who is live blogging:
There are rival delegations from Hartford, and only one slate will be seated. Apparently the Mayor of Hartford Eddie Perez seated his own delegation slate in one block instead of allowing for proportional representation like other Democratic Town Committees. The antiwar town of Hartford will have an entirely pro-war delegation if the Lieberman-backing machine Mayor wins. The room is structured like a trial, with opposing attorneys calling witnesses. There are accusations of bad faith on the part of the Chairman, who apparently is relying on a different set of rules that denies proportional representation.
While I was talking to Bob, Ned grabbed the phone to say hello and expressed his thanks for all the support he’s getting from the blogosphere. Bob says he doesn’t think it will get down and dirty until late in the evening Connecticut time. There is a live blogging site here where they will be posting the delegate results. You can also watch the convention live online beginning at 6pm EDT/3pm PDT here.
Congratulations to everyone who is fighting the good fight in Connecticut today. Fortunately Ned’s future in the race is not dependent AT ALL on tonight’s results. But showing up and making a stand for what you believe in, even when the odds are stacked again you, is both noble and praiseworthy.

fitz? where are you?
Go Ned!
Lieberman is apparently willing to destroy the entire Democratic Party of Connecticut for his own ego. What a man of the people, that Joe.
…have some sushi, it’s elephant roll!!
We’re rooting for you down here in depressing Hillary – Schumer Land Ned!!!!
And I want to mention that someone made the clever suggestion to clear cookies if having trouble getting the comments section to open – it works beautifully! FDL is once again purring along quite nicely!
sushi? Sushi ? Is Lieberman running for Senator from Kyushu or Connecticut? Why isn’t Lamont serving nutmegs or whatever they eat in that state?
the Lieberman tent is as big as a football field
Holy Joe, the proverbial Big Tent Republican.
Or is he just happy to see Bush?
Another Feinstein constituent for Ned says, “Go Nutmeggers!” I love the smell of Democracy on a Friday afternoon….
OT – server issues- As I understood the problem last time there was a change over at FDL, certain local servers don’t “propagate” correctly- at least not in a timely way. I can see the picture just fine when I access FDL via Earthlink, but cannot see I access via a university server. Same browser. Last time (move off Blogger) the problem corrected itself within a week, and that seemed to been a result of whatever happened at the U server, not at FDL. People did post advice as to clear dns caches, but I wasn’t brave enough to go that route into something I knew nothing about.
If anyone is a techie and can explain the “local server propagation” problem in plain English… ? I am assuming this is the problem (my U connection) and for myself, I”ll just wait it out.

“Non illigitamus carborundum”
lest anybody accuse me of xenophobia : I recently attended a Democratic fundraiser mainly for Buppies (Black Urban Professionals) held downtown in a sushi bar — I chowed down bigtime. Good stuff…
If only Lamont could defeat Lieberman. What a blow for Democrat Party authenticity that would be. And not incindentally, for that seemingly elusive and antiquated concept, truth.
Jane H: I read your response to this partial skeptic’s question of last night on why the anti-Joementum crusade. My understanding of your answer is “Supposed moderates of either party who played PR games to allow Alito to be confirmed while pretending to be against him are very very dangerous, and must be punished severely.” And you will get a correspoinding GOPer in your sights as soon as practicable (thereby, though perhaps inadvertantly, soothing us old GOTV political soldiers who are concerned about the Dems actually winning a chamber)? Chaffee possible target, huh?
Alito: bad on abortion, bad on unitary exectutive, bad on corporate vs. human rights, might be very bad on whole slew of “original intent” and “consitutional in exile” issues. And will be for another 25-30 years.
OK. I’m on board. One more click for Lamont tonight (I will still grit my teeth a little).
IMHO opinion: Alito and Roberts also probably very nasty bad faith artists with few legal scruples. Also IMHO, the mess they make will be more like 50-75 years to undue since responsible justices following them will be slow in undoing mess. And it will be harder to undo mess created by bad faith artists who will produce shifty opinions that ignore straightforward legal reasoning in favor of indirection and by-any-means-possible approaches.
Ok, I will grit my teeth a little less.
I still do hope FDL has time to get some vulnerable wingnut GOP seats in its sights as election draws nearer.
He should be serving crow on a stick!
Alas, he is as slippery and slimy and stinky as the food he is serving can often be if it is not prepared of very good and fresh stock with scrupulous attention to quality and hygiene. Joe has none of the latter traits.
(this from an avowed sushi lover)
OT mulling over the Gregory interview of Bush, which Froomkin is talking about today, and it’s finally struck me why Bush’s saying “I understand…” is like a poke with a sharp stick.
He doesn’t understand. Not a bit. Don’t wanna. Can’t make me…
Incompetent? Clueless? Definitely obstinate.
But it’s his “tell.”
lieberman isn’t destroying anything — think of the many democrats who wanted us to go into iraq — think of the many democrats who will cheer when bush attacks iran & syria — think of the many democrats in congress who, like their republican counterparts, voted for war but kept their own offspring out of iraq — think of the many democrats who kick owners of small businesses in the teeth instead of realizing that it’s such owners who create jobs in america
we need democrats like feingold, rangel, murtha & lamont but it makes no sense to declare allegiance to the democratic party as a whole till it shapes up
‘ As progressive netroots candidates stand up so Vichy candidates shall stand down ‘

We’ve already seen all there is to see with sellouts who cling to the administration and war and the existence of evil in the world as justification for anything and everything – a fight for something different, even if it loses, has the power of the unique in this country, these days. In exchange for my OT rant below, I’ll send Ned some appetizers $$.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
OT – Now that both Judge Tragar in the Arar case and Judge Ellis in the el-Masri case have ruled that, in essence, we don’t want to send out a message that the legal system of the United States might “disapprove” of rendition; and they have reassured us that it is not really all that bad if everyone just agrees to keep it a State Secret (pssssst – no more pictures!); and I have had a chance to hear Hayden assert that his prime goal will be getting the CIA black ops black again-off the front pages- and punish anyone (operatives, employees, journalists, American citizens, etc.) who have a different view about keeping torture, kidnap, lies to Congress and maybe even a little murder or mayhem secret, I look back through rosecolored screen filters to this article:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8769416/site/newsweek/
An FBI agent warned superiors in a memo three years ago that U.S. officials who discussed plans to ship terror suspects to foreign nations that practice torture could be prosecuted for conspiring to violate U.S. law, according to a copy of the memo obtained by NEWSWEEK.
I’m not sure if the tear I wipe is nostalgic, from an irony overload, or something a little bit deeper felt. Was it only back in 2002 that we still had people in government who thought that breaking the law and torture were bad, while lawfully acquired evidence and trials were good? Whoever said Rome wasn’t built in a day didn’t stick around to watch centuries of moral fiber and national values decay in an administration.
Prosecuted by who(m) and where? Excuse us while we interrupt DOJ from drafting yet another secret memo (BuhBye Bybee I, Hello BYBEE XIV?) and see who laughs loudest and longest at the concept. The people who cooked our DOJ and specialized in cover up of the illegal instead of their obligation to defend the Constitution left ash.
Law, unlike a phoenix, doesn’t burst resplendent from the ash.
Corporate careers, teaching gigs and promotions apparently do.
OT – Is it time for Leopold to out his five sources now?
tick…tick…tick
yeth it wath, punaithe
Jane — OT — when you invited Murray Waas to be on the Plame panel — good job, that!! — did you happen to ask him when his next story on the leak investigation would be coming out? In the US News interview, he said he was working on a story — and I keep hoping.
Just wondering if you’d heard anything…..being as how we’ve had to postpone a neighborhood Fitzo de Mayo party for the second week in a row…..and our collective Fitz addiction is suffering for want of solid nourishment….
GO NED GO!!!!
wesgpc — Chafee is probably THE most vulneragle GOPer in the Senate. I think it is very important to exact a price from those (both Democrat and Republican) who purport to be pro-choice (or progressive “anything,” for that matter) but pledged their loyalty to the Gang of 14 instead. If another Alito comes up for confimation, they have to know that there will be a price to pay for this continued back-stabbing, and having to fight like hell to keep their seats is a cautionary tale to others who would follow in their footsteps.
NARAL and Planned Parenthood may give fuck-all about the whole thing, but I’m not going to go through another cloture vote like that again. We have to be willing to fight now, no matter what the odds, or nothing is going to change.
It’s time for JL to post on here under a fake name to give testimony to his reliability.
aha! Ned’s campaign is serving Cajun food and Joe’s is pushing sushi. Compare and contrast…
Also, if Truthout doesn’t fire JL, you can call them “Truthyout”

I could not agree more with what you articulate. Of course, that begs a question, for me though. What if the current front runner continues to support the Iraq war and distasteful positions like supporting Lieberman and the DLC bunch and cozying up to the likes of guys like Rupert Murdoch, etc.? Then what do we do (as Democrats) in 2008? Perhaps of much more consequence: what do we do well before ‘08?
http://www.mydd.com/ is doing great CT Convention blogging (how else would I know about the Cajun food?)

Maybe JL has been sneaking Joe Klein’s sippy cup.

Truthyout. hehe. Good one.
Valley Girl — propogation has to do with computer network addresses. Human readable domain names (”www.firedoglake.com”, “www.jasonleopoldmakesshitup.com”, etc) are translated into Internet Protocol (”IP”) addresses (”66.34.123.1″, “38.98.18.100″, etc).
When the IP address of a website changes, those changes published via the domain name system. (”DNS”)
All DNS information, when you query for it, comes with a “time to live” setting which basically tells the computer that is asking for the information how long the domain name to IP address translation can be used before it must be refreshed.
In the case of firedoglake.com, the “time to live” is currently set to one hour (3600 seconds).
Unless there is a proxy or cache of some sort between your local computer and firedoglake.com, you should be connecting to the proper IP address/computer that is serving firedoglake.com within one hour of the changed address being published.
You’re probably more confused now, eh?
Truth or Consequences?
MK 25 — I think Murray’s new story should be out any time soon. I myself can’t wait.

shoephone,
Greetings from Greenlake. I read your incendiary comment the other day wondering why I hadn’t gotten off my butt and joined the rocking WA-state Roots Project. First off, my butt is frightfully large, rocking is unseemly, and finally the time has to come from somewhere. Things get easier for time starting the first week of June. My personal mail is marc j lord (all one word) at yahoo, I’m ready to be convinced. Martini’s at Mona’s near Greenlake and you’ve probably got me surrounded.
On Topic: Ned Lamont is the only political candidate I’ve ever (willingly) given any money to. Thank you both, Jane and Christy, for spotlighting him.
“Preznit is opposed to making English the official language”
Uh, yeah, because it’s not his native tongue.

Aberoham- thanks for all of the info. If I interpreted correctly from the discussion last time, I think there actually may be some kind of cache or proxy thingy at the Univ. server. Certainly not my browser cache, which I clear often. Anyway, other people at Univ. servers seemed to have trouble with access last time too. I know people have talked about clearing the dns cache locally, but I won’t try that until I am convinced I won’t screw up!
Valley Girl,
I’m not a techie, but I do have a fix that works for me, that might help. A few years ago, my host moved my website to another server and assigned it a new IP address. I tried for days to access my site, but kept getting the old version at the old IP address, which was messed up.
After hours on the phone, a smart tech figured out that I visited my own site so often, that the old IP address was buried deep in the cache. So, simply clearing the cache didn’t work to take me to the version of the site at the new IP.
He had me open the Command Prompt.
Once there, I backed up to the root C:/ prompt by typing cd.. (that’s two periods after the cd, which stands for Change Directory). Then I type: nbtstat -R
A response comes up, “Successful purge and preload of the NBT Remote Cache Name Table.”
Then I just type EXIT at the C:/ prompt to close the window.
I visit FDL several times a day. Can’t help it, I’m addicted. This morning when I got up, I couldn’t get to the site. I figured that I had once again deep buried an IP into my cache, and so I went through the process explained above and was able to access the site when I was done.
Might work for you too if you visit FDL often.
OT: Will religious minorities be required to wear special clothing in Iran? Is the Bush propoganda machine cranking up for an invasion? Or is it just the case of someone who writes fiction and calls it journalism?

===Many of Lamont’s supporters are angry with Lieberman because of his support of the war in Iraq.
That discontent might lead to battles over everything from the party platform to credentials for delegates.
Lieberman is trying to smooth things over with an afternoon barbecue in the parking lot of the Connecticut Expo Center, where the convention is being held.===
Smooth things over with an afternoon barbeque??? HAHAHAH
Valley Girl — I’ll take a shot, though I may not get all the details right.
In the beginning on the Internet, there were numerical IP addresses, such as 70.87.80.162. To connect to a machine, you had to know its numerical address. Then the lords of the Net gave us the Domain Name Service, which allowed names to be assigned to machines and domains (groups) of machines, enabling us mere mortals to talk to the using somewhat meaningful names instead of numbers.
But the numbers are still what’s used to direct traffic, and what your computer uses to connect. So your computer has to be able to find out the number for the name you want. It does this by looking it up in a local DNS (Domain Name Service) server (at your U or ISP, for example.) The local server has a parent DNS server, so if it doesn’t know about the name, it asks it’s parent, and so on up the chain. But if the local server has been asked about the name before, it saves it so it can respond quickly.
When the FDL staff changes the address for the name “www.firedoglake.com”, they can’t directly tell every DNS server across the Net about the change. They can tell the DNS servers that talk directly to them to update, and DNS servers keep records for a limited amount of time, so the change propagates across the Internet, but it takes a while. Until it gets to your local DNS server, when you try to connect to firedoglake.com, it goes to the old address. There are a few incantations you can do on your machine that may speed up the process a little, but a lot depends on how your ISP or University or employer (and the ones they connect to) has their DNS service configured.
In the better case, like the one we just went through, the old address is still active, and things are just a little wonky while our hosts try to keep things synchronized. In worse cases, like the one we went through a while back with the, er, not-so-good hosting service, server at the old address goes away or isn’t updated, and you see old content or nothing until the change propagates to you.
This is the price we pay for having a network where one of the primary design requirements was that it could keep operating through a nuclear war. But since that’s also what’s allowed it to grow to such massive size and still work, I’m not inclined to complain too much. *g*
Probably more than you wanted to know…
…here’s another picture:

hungrycoyote @ 3:32 pm (#54) – Another thing to consider is if you use a firewall for your Internet connection. It may be acting as your DNS server. If it is, then you may have to restart the firewall, as well. Try what hungrycoyote suggests first, though.

Bush fully understands the threat, and will not allow us to make the same mistake. He alone has the courage to take decisive action…” blah, blah, blah…

Re: ‘truth’out and Leopold
I am really glad that progressive netroots demonstrated that they are fair, skeptical, and self-policing. The Leopold’s story never made sense to me, even outside the details which are now proven wrong. Fitz just doesn’t operate that way. His staff is leak proof, he usually doesn’t accept any plea until after indictment, and within a few hours of gj returning an indictment – he usually has a press conference with a public statement.
Better that Leopold gets proven a liar now, then let his carelessness affect the credibility of newly powerful liberal/progressive blogosphere. And I’d like to commend how well firedoglake, emptywheel, talkingpoints memo, atrios handled this story. I saw no such restraint in the neocon blogs when Drudge posted that bogus story about John Kerry during the 2004 election.

BobbyG @ 3:41 pm (#68) – My own opinion is that it’s possible this is propoganda, but I see no proof as yet. In contrast to conspiracy theorists and other crackpots, I don’t take the possibility of something as proof of its existence. It’s a story with questionable assertions at the moment, and I hope that’s all it is.

I am assuming that there is nothing that Jane or RH can do to deal with these kinds of local problems, and that was partly why I posted- to let people who have been complaining about not being able to see pix that this will come out in the wash, so to speak. Correct assumption? But, thanks also for the add. info. If I see the info enough times, in different versions, it will eventually become clear.

The National Post is sending shockwaves across the country this morning with a report that Iran’s Parliament has passed a law requiring mandatory Holocaust style badges to identify Jews and Christians.
But independent reporter Meir Javedanfar, an Israeli Middle East expert who was born and raised in Tehran, says the report is false.
“It’s absolutely factually incorrect,” he told The New 940 Montreal.
“Nowhere in the law is there any talk of Jews and Christians having to wear different colours. I’ve checked it with sources both inside Iran and outside.”
Re. Leopold.
I’m willing to believe he’s a fantasist, but his editor backed him up by saying he heard the same thing from three news organisations. There’s no way the editor, with his name and his site’s name at stake, is going to make stuff up too. The editor also says he heard from Leopold’s sources too.
I’ve been very sceptical about this whole thing from Woodward onwards, but I’m willing to give the Truthout people a few more days on this. A Monday announcement with a week’s worth of news cycles would be fantastic. :)
The headline for the McCain commencement speech fiasco should read:

My time is limited but my will is not.
anon @ 3:43 pm (#72) – It’s hardest to be skeptical when we’re told something we want to believe or that fits with our view of the world. Quite often, that’s also the time when it’s most important. The Leopold story didn’t fit with the facts, and people who may have wanted to believe it were among the ones who said so. Intellectual honesty is a rare thing, and it deserves praise.

hungry coyote- thanks- well, I found the command prompt, etc. and did what you said, got back the message. It did not change the picture glitch when I refreshed FDL, but perhaps after I reboot the computer (firewall stuff) it might. I DEFinately visit FDL a lot, and sometimes can’t access- but can after I reboot. So, that is a great thing to know.
Also, for those of you who like me have to use dial-up at times… another great techie gave me a tip that speeds up access time a lot (plus using FF, which is way quicker than IE)– in the modem properties advanced tab put AT&F1 in the line for extra initialization commands. This makes a big speed difference! I don’t remember the details but somehow it turns off the error checking (?) and has created no problems for me. I did suggest this once to someone who reported that “it killed her computer”- kinda dramatic type- if this creates problems, then go back and remove the extra command. (I can’t imagine there are many dial-up users on FDL.. but just in case).

darkblack 110 – that’s W on Trent Lott’s newly reconstructed porch, right?
(what’s that instrument he’s playing? oh yeah: Ban Joe. whodathunk?)
Ban Joe !
Very impressive
I am able to access everything at FDL, but it seems to be significantly slower than before. When I selected a topic on the right hand side it took forever to get a response. I have a high-speed DSL connection (much higher than baseline DSL service) and use Firefox. Any suggestions as to why that might be?
ROFL punaise. Ban Joe. You guys aren’t stringing me along are you?
soooo, weeee have to wait a little longer for an indictment???

===[]Sen. Lieberman has had to do a lot of fence mending over the past several weeks. He knew he was in for trouble when he was loudly booed back in March at the party’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
He started a heavy television ad campaign a month ago in an attempt to win over unhappy Democratic activists.
“I already know that some of you feel passionately against my position on Iraq. I respect your views,” Lieberman said in his first commercial.
This week he started different ads that portray him as the defender of core Democratic values.
Commercial: “He’s always got the attitude; what can I do for you next? Joe Lieberman our fighter in the Senate!”[]=== HAHAHA
More grim stats from life under the Great Decider:
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana raised its Hurricane Katrina death toll by 281 Friday to 1,577 after including more out-of-state evacuees whose deaths were deemed related to the storm or its grueling aftermath.

heh… well on that note
Anon @ 72…
I’m right with ya on that one. This is a perfect example of how much more level-headed and responsible the progressive blogosphere can be than what usually gets claimed by the MSM and those who use the MSM as their primary news source.
Yes, in any given Internet situation there will always be people who are playing the noise game, and who will seize onto anything that makes their “team” look good and the other “team” look bad. That happens in regular conversation too, so it’s not like it’s something unique to the Internet.
What often gets lost in the whole “everything on the Internet is slanted to one side or another and none of it has the validity that print and broadcast news has,” argument is that while it does take a good deal more effort to suss out which sites are most likely to provide solid stories, a great many people who do rely on the Internet as a primary news source (as well as many of the sites themselves) do make a consistent effort to get to the facts.
It takes some sifting, some patience, and the ability to hold up and say “Wait a second… I was wrong about that, and here’s what the situation now seems to be.
Personally, I may list a bit to port as far as my politics go, but that doesn’t mean that I only want to hear what I want to hear. I’m fed up with being misled and flat-out lied to by this nation’s political leaders, and by extension, by our nation’s news media. I’m sure not about to glom onto additional lies and bullshit from an online source simply because I like what’s being said.
When people like Young Master Leopold run with bogus stories (as it seems he did with this Rove story from last week) it ends up making us all look bad and giving the traditional media more ammunition to hurl at us. However, as Anon pointed out at post #72, the fact that most of us were more than willing to take a wait-and-see approach to the whole thing, since there were no other reputable sources from which to triangulate, makes us all look a hell of a lot better than we would have if we’d all just taken the Leopold story and run with it.
And, once again, FDL shows why this has become the first site I check when one of these stories comes out. If it’s hogwash, chances are it’ll meet with a fairly tepid response here, both in the articles themselves and in the comment posts. It’s easy to take that for granted sometimes, but really it’s something everyone here ought to be damned proud of.
windsor – 3 for liebs, 14 for lamont!!
lots of support for lamont. This is great!
They are counting off towns live, it’s great to watch.
http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/
voting has started in CT and it looks like Ned will get at least 15 %
Geez, I hope those numbers don’t continue. If Nedrenaline makes it clear already that he can win a primary, Holy Joe will just take his toys and go to the Republican party now, making it harder for us to get rid of him.
Though I wonder if he did, if Hillary would have to go GOP now too.
Yea, I’m watching, too. Should’ve been counting, ’cause it sure feels like + 15%…
I’m willing to believe he’s a fantasist, but his editor backed him up by saying he heard the same thing from three news organisations. There’s no way the editor, with his name and his site’s name at stake, is going to make stuff up too. The editor also says he heard from Leopold’s sources too.
Harry @84…
The fact remains, though, that an entire week has now passed since this alleged meeting at Rove’s lawyer’s office, and nothing has come of it. I don’t know who the Truthout editor talked to, or if he even talked to anyone, but at this point it’s not looking particularly good for Leopold or Truthout.
Pacifica @ 4:32 pm (#116) – I’m using Firefox 1.0.8 on a Linux box (dual 750 MHz P3s) and the subject links load just fine. It usually takes some of the larger subject pages several seconds to render. I’d suggest if you have any Firefox extentions that you try disabling or removing them one-by-one to see if the problem goes away.
Typically, I use the NoScript and AdBlock extensions on this site. That removes most of the annoyances.
darkman (97):
that couldn’t be rove’s body. not enough flab.
Shez, I hope you’re still here. I got a response today from Larry Johnson about Marcinkowski’s party shift.
“Jim was President of Michigan College Republicans back in 1980. Helped
get out the vote for Reagan. The final straw for him with the
Republicans came with their decision to support and defend the outing of a
covert CIA officer. This is a betrayal of national security. Rather than
continue with a party that puts our nation’s security at risk, Jim
chose to join the Democrats, who are serious about defending Americans and
their security. It is simple really.
Best
Larry”
Hope that is reassuring; it’s pretty much as I thought. I also wonder if Jim has any connection to Ray McGovern??? That will be interesting to find out.
it sounds like Lieberman is getting skunked …
Lamont seems to be getting a steady 30%.
this is FANTASTIQUE ! ! !
Clem@128.
If it’s true – and according to the Truthout editor three new orgs say so too – then the obvious explanation for no news yet is that Rove decided to do a deal on Monday, meaning only one thing – Cheney is going to get nailed.
Leopold being a nut I can believe. His editor and site owner, however, with all his credibility/site at stake, would have to be an even bigger nut to say the things he has.
via SF Chronicle:
A group of performing artists led by alternative musician Moby and Michael Stipe of REM has joined the grassroots effort to derail a House bill that would let telephone companies and other broadband carriers set up toll roads on the Internet
Valley (#104)
It’s a Rove trick. Make it seem like Lamont’s got the 15% even though the smart money says he hasn’t. That way Jomentum can claim a “victory” when it turns out not so. Makes Traitor Joe look better as he whistles past the graveyard.
TECTONIC PLATES ! ! !
Lamont’s at about 33% now.
Shez 122

Rat @ 71- I was born slightly too late to have a direct relationship to the Kesey/Dead/Acid Test, but was drawn to it when I learned about it via Rolling Stone or something in my teens. I have tapes of the acid tests and have read Wolfe’s book countless times. I am sorry to hear about Ramrod and thank you for posting about his death. I was never a big Dead fan, but loved reading Kerouac, Kesey, McMurtry and others, marveling at the creative, manic, psychedelic energy surrounding them all that time. Ramrod can hang with Hunter and Jerry, I hope.

Marc Ash from truthout with a non-response response:
The time has now come, however, to issue a partial apology to our readership for this story. While we paid very careful attention to the sourcing on this story, we erred in getting too far out in front of the news-cycle. In moving as quickly as we did, we caused more confusion than clarity. And that was a disservice to our readership and we regret it.
As such, we will be taking the wait-and-see approach for the time being. We will keep you posted.

OT: uh clem -> I don’t think that Leopold’s report makes anyone look bad – except for the reporters, perhaps. I’ve been following this story all over the blogosphere and the reaction has been right on target. Scepticism, fervent hopes but very few people seized upon it hook, line and sinker.
I think that folks are starved for news but that the worst thing that happened collectively this week was disappointment – people raised an eyebrow and got their hopes up because they want Rove to go down so damn bad.
I’m so happy for Ned and our friend Bob. I can’t wait to see his video.
it sounds like Ned will get 35% … damn good !
Can anybody report what Lamont was expected to do and where he is now? Can anyone provide the internet link to the returns?
OMG! I just got the convention on internet TV!! Lot’s of Lamont votes just heard Stonington- any one been keeping a tally?
The Republicans will US this English only bill to prevent latinos from voting.
-GSD
I’m keeping a sort of running tally. I may have missed a couple, but after two districts, total I come up with Lamont 228 (34%) and Liberman 440 (66%)
Hugs to zennurse! Thanks for the info hon. I just double checked my email, if I can manage to get up in the morning early enough I can go down to a parade in Lansing tomorrow and meet Marcinkowski in person, some DFA members will be with him handing out campaign flyers. I should be able to discreetly question some of his views like womens rights I’m concerned about. All in all, Mike Rogers has been entrenched for too long, votes something like 95% with the Bushco administration, and has GOT to go.
Ned is doing very well; lots of split votes
Looks like there will be a primary…
Guess I`ll send some more cash

It’s looking great! Lamont at 32% a little less than halfway! Go to http://ctconvention.blgspot.com and some other sites running it live.

Update on the Hartford delegation – Matt Stoller says the Mayor’s slate was chosen. Read about it at the link in Jane’s article. I don’t know what this actually means for the vote, as it appears from Matt’s description that it wasn’t just about the war.
Heh Heh, Just got off work. hadn’t caught up yet.
on a lighter note, GO NED !
Oh I am so happy for CT and the progressives!!!!!! What a moment in history. That pasty faced warbling war hawk is being shown the future tonite– begone you who apes chimpy with no remorse.

Harry, I really hope you’re right. I’m just not seeing it. Remember, Leopold’s story was very clear on the fact that Rove DIDN’T agree to a deal, and that Fitzgerald was giving him 24 hours to “get his affairs in order” before going ahead with the thing.
Yes, perhaps Rove changed his mind and copped a plea Monday. But I think it’s probably much more likely that the story was just bunk, and the Truthout editor made an inordinately stupid call in backing it up this week.
Time will tell, though.
Anyone got the Connecticut stream link? I changed computers and forgot where it was…
For a minute by minute account you can also go to http://lamontblog.blogspot.com/.
punaise, Shez – you’re being awfully picky.
Hillary and Joe both act as if they’re Republicans. And if it quacks like a Republican, well then…
Perhaps now would be a very opportune time for the Democratic Party to see Joe and Hil defect to the Repubs, and then be in a better position to return the Party to it’s roots. They might as well. I mean… maybe it’s time to clean the stalls and shovel the s***. I’m really tired of the “third-way”, nouveau, DLC Demos.

Mayan @145…
I agree, the only people who really look bad because of Leopold’s article are Leopold himself and the Truthout people who backed him.
The rest of the progressive blogosphere, particularly FDL, came out smelling like roses because this was exactly the sort of story that the traditional media types expect us to go apeshit over, and yet nobody really did. Instead, we saw healthy skepticism, measured analysis (along the lines of “If this turns out to be accurate, here’s what it might portend,”) and little in the way of hardcore glomming-on to the story absent any independent confirmation.
I think that the potential damage that Leopold’s article would have done to the overall credibility of the progressive blogosphere was certainly mitigated by the level-headed, realistic response it got from most all of us.
Strum Thurmond’s rumor is bassless.

Yep, he’s on the ballot with 2 more districts left to go. Just waiting for the final count.
hey! guess i got my candidates mixed up! will Traitor Joe get 15%?
GSD 150-
In California under Rep Gov Wilson the wingers went for 187 – a nasty racist propostion denying public services to humanbeings without immigration documents.
The result helped to anneal California Latino voters (and the families of future voters) agaisnt the Repugs.
I think we’re watching the core racist constituency and values of the national Republican party drive Latino votes to the Dems.
I do hope the gooper party implodes – but I hope we save our nation from those racist authoritarians before they destroy the Constitution.

Do make the effort to meet Jim. If things sweep the way they look like they might, I think he can win. I’ve talked to him in a couple of situations, and he speaks really well to protecting our constitution and helping working people. That by himself makes him better than Rogers. And the Dingell folks seem comfortable/able to persuade him. Given the district, I think he can be an excellent choice.
This race now becomes the main media story until August. Only 17% needs to be stripped off Lieberman-very doable. Congratulations.
