A couple of not especially important tidbits:

Martin Short’s character was named Nathan Thurm. He was a sweaty, chain-smoking shyster who usually had to defend some miscreant against Harry Shearer’s brilliant impression of Mike Wallace (back when Wallace had a pair and would actually rip people like that up.) Mr. Thurm’s “arguments” were masterpieces of sophistry and circular logic.

Also, Jennifer Garner is not only a West Virginian, she’s very proud of it and she’s also a good Democrat (as is her husband, Mr. Affleck) all of which makes my West Va. native mother like her as much as I do.

WASHINGTON — The housing market, after flying high for five years, has lost altitude but appears headed for a safe landing, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Thursday.
“It seems pretty clear now that the U.S. housing market is cooling,” Bernanke said in a question-and-answer session following a speech he delivered on banking in Chicago.

He noted that home sales and construction are slowing.

“Our assessment at this point … is that this looks to be a very orderly and moderate kind of cooling,” Bernanke said.

One of the things Bernanke and his Fed colleagues are keeping close tabs on is the extent to which a housing slowdown will chill overall economic activity.

The housing market has been a top performer. The sector racked up record sales five years in a row. Rapid appreciation in house prices has made homeowners feel wealthy and has powered consumer spending, helping the economy move solidly ahead.

Cooling of the housing sector is expected to be a factor in slower economic growth in the months ahead.

The economy in the first three months of this year grew at a brisk 4.8% annual rate, fastest in 2 1/2 years. Many economists predict growth will moderate to around 3% in the April-to-June quarter, still a good pace.

Don’t know anything about Madsen– but the story sounds believable. He’s saying indictment tomorrow- so we won’t have long to wait to see if he’s right. If I were betting- I’d bet he’s right about tomorrow. There was some foul smelling bullshit about the original story (Rover has ALREADY been indicted- 24hour warning-etc) this sounds more plausible- although I don’t know about the supposed communication to Gonzalez- is this standard procedure? Does a GJ announce and INTENT to indict?

Maybe that is how it’s done- but I’ve never heard of it. Opinions Redd?

Wayne Madsen makes Jason Leopold seem reliable. He “reported” a bunch of 2004 election rumors which too many people were taken in by despite all the holes.

Pacfica is doing coverage of the hearings.
Larry Bensky is anchoring

but I had to shut it off when Roberts got to the bit in his opening bloviation about not having civil rights if we are dead.

He needs new material. He’s trotted out that lamentably lame line multiple times before. I keep waiting for someone to retort something along the lines of “Tell it to Patrick Henry.”
