Um. . . are you gonna eat that?
Yes, it’s that time, ladies and gentlemen: StepRightUp StepRightUp StepRightUp getcher foody goodness right-here yessirree-bob!!
You’ve heard about it. You’ve dreamt about it. Your friends are green with envy (or are they already hung over? Do they really make cactus margaritas in the desert? Mmmmm. . . cactus!).
Last month, you took a survey to help us plan an FDL Breakfast for Saturday, June 10 at YearlyKos (in Las Vegas) first thing in the morning, before all the programs start. It’s going to be an awesome conference, put together by people like you, propelling people-powered politics and Plame-a-licious punditry (let’s hear you say that five times fast). Our Plame panel, which will be held on Friday, June 9, will include Joe Wilson, Dan Froomkin, Emptywheel, Larry Johnson, Christy and Jane (and special guest to be announced later today). The breakfast should be a great opportunity to continue the discussion.
You told us your prime price point was a $15 donation, and we set up a special Paypal link here on the site for you to preregister for your FDL Breakfast. If you can’t afford the full amount, pay what you can, and if you can afford more, please consider donating more to cover the costs of community members more strapped for cash.
It’s going to be sensational to meet each other at this history making event. We’re reserving just 100 preregistered spots, based on your survey feedback. If you have not already registered and you intend to go, well, get to it!
I’m still working with the Yearlykos people and the hotel to finalize the menu, but we’re looking to offer healthy options and some little extras if possible, just to show how much we appreciate all you do (any supplemental donations you can make will surely help make it special). If by some chance we have money left over when it’s all said and done, we’ll send the money to Ned Lamont. We’ll keep you posted on all that.
Okay, time to sign up. Jane, Christy, our special breakfast guests and I can’t wait to be there with you!
NOTE: Registration for the breakfast is now closed, we sold out.

Fitz again!
Fitz!
Fitz with breakfast!
That’s 2 today. What’s the record in the Modern FDL era?
It was a lot easier to pull off in the fall of ‘05.
Fitz . . .
Fitzgerald Hammer of Justice!
“quite refreshing”
lol
Man, Pach, that picture is making me reallly hungry. I’ve gotta go get some lunch. ;)
re-Fitz?
OT: That breakfast looks great. Wish I could be there. Oh well. In the meantime, while there’s precious meat on the bones, there’s a little, teeny-weeny bit more to snack on regarding truthout’s story – they’ve published an update at:
http://forum.truthout.org/blog…..125248/099
If this is redundant and repetitious, I apologize.
Just paid for my husband and me. Can’t wait!
EPU’d from another thread: The Truthout story doesn’t add a lot of credibility. After months and months of speculating about this case, all of a sudden two network “superiors” are preventing their reporters from reporting on this possible development? I just don’t buy it.
Wish I could be there. I trust there will be plenty of live blogging amidst the noshing?
Pretty please?
Yep, you’re my friends and I am green with envy. And it’s not easy being green (esp. with no green in my pockets).
On a lighter note, my school colors are green and white!
Is there any alternative other than PayPal for the breakfast registration? I registered for the conference via PayPal. Within a DAY I started getting these phishing emails saying my “PayPal account has been compromised” (I’d never before used PayPal) and trying to get me to click on a link to provide information. Pisses me off. I passed it on to PayPal, and just got a boilerplate response from them.
After someone ripped off our bank debit card account number back just before last Christmas and went on a really neat shopping spree in Paris and around France, I’m kinda paranoid.
OT – Cujo belowthread. Thanks for the links. It is a big failing. It’s not that I even think Arar is an innocent -I have no idea. What I do think is that you put together evidence, get arrest warrants, make cases, allow people to be represented by counsel, have trials, etc.
YOu don’t kidnap people and send them off for torture. Scratch that – apparently that is EXACTLY what we do. And per Ashcroft, Gonzales, the Saint, and DOJ in general – the only bad part is when someone mentions it out loud.
It’s why, despite Rove & Cunningham etc. and some nice legal work – I have no heros on the Feds side of the line. Not a peep from anyone about any of what has gone on being Just Plain Wrong. It goes beyond awful in my book (which in fairness I again mention that no one is really wanting written). Fitzgerald has his own torture case in Chicago and took the position that the NSLs are not a big deal at all bc, of course if they were misused there would be some brave FBI whistleblower to ride up on a white horse or recently confiscated moped and make it all come out right. Uh huh.
Some extra nice legal work all around with Abramoff and Cunningham et al and et seq, but I have lost most of my respect on the non-technical end.
FWIW – here’s some irony.

Prosecutor: Lay, Skilling Committed Crimes
Enron Corp. founder Kenneth Lay encapsulated the top-down view that he and former Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling were immune to rules that govern others during his contentious testimony in the pair’s fraud and conspiracy trial, a federal prosecutor told jurors.
Where did DOJ find a federal prosecutor who still believes that the guys at the top are supposed to follow the rules? Was she left off the memo list?

First thing about the updated t00thout piece is the byline is NOT J.Leo.
I myself want to see his ’sources’ named. Although, having allegedly added new ones, are the older ones grandfathered into a new updated outing timeline?
OTOH, I don’t hear Luskin or Team Libby DEMANDING a retraction. Is that because the story is accurate, or they want to let the ‘reporters’ swing in the wind?
This is reminding me of the last few minutes of the Orson Welles ‘Lady From Shanghai’.
A treacherous hall of mirrors with plausible, but ultimately unreliable reflections.
I’m with BobbyG
I’d love to register, but don’t do PayPal.
Shit- just got a computer generated phone call from Bilbray sayin that Busby refuses to take the steps necessary to stop illegal immigration. A little late- my vote for Busby is already in the mail.
Timing of campaigns is changing as more and more of us opt for vote by mail.
Sorry Brian- you’re fucked!
There isn’t a shade of green that is green enough to convey my envy for those who will be attending; it’s just not in the cards for me this year.
The nice thing is, though, that this is such a wonderful community that I have no doubt those of you who do attend will cover the events so thoroughly that those of us at home will truly feel like we were a part of it.
But I’m still envious.
I just registered for the champagne seating. I can hardly wait! Do we have to register for the Plamegate panel or what?
Anne -
I’m lucky, in that I live just 10 minutes off the Strip.
got my ticket (and will beg the media team to cover for me during bkfst) – I’ve never had a problem with paypal and actually never get phishing emails at the email address I use for paypal but routinely get them on other email addresses with no link to paypal if you get my drift and now I’m dizzy –
So early morning breakfast with FDL before we all go see Dean – not a bad way to start the day!
Thanks Pach for making this happen!!!
WRT the “telcos can lie” executive order, it fleshes out the grist for speculation that the delay in providing a denial by AT&T, Bell South, and Verizon was due to extended consultation with their legal teams, and careful word parsing to allow fallback positions if the truth comes out and the executive order was laughed out of the room.
Pach,
want to pay for hubby and 7 year old and some extra, quantity on paypal invoice is one (1), no way to change it. Pay for three separate? Send you an email for three reservations?
Anne, me too, but I feel the same way about this community: people will let us know what’s going on and we’ll feel a part of it, even if we’re not there.
oh, and for those those going to LV and YKos…
Bon Appetit!
(have a couple Mimosa’s for the rest of us. Chased with 151 rum, or whatever local variant might be available.)
;)
hey pach! thanks for the pc breakfast pix.
OT but I just read that all 250 books were purchased for the Roots project to deliver “Crashing the Gate” to Dems in Congress.
Great work folks. One bite at a time.
“Prosecutors also might ask for a sealed indictment to protect an investigation, hoping the person charged might offer evidence against others. This is common in complex conspiracy cases such as racketeering investigations.
To obtain a sealed indictment, a prosecutor simply needs to ask the Superior Court judge presiding over the case — either in open court or in chambers, Woodall said. Seals are temporary, said Richard Myers II, an assistant law professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. Once those indicted have been arrested, the indictment is usually made public.”
- A summary from the website of The News & Observer newspaper in North Carolina.
Did someone say here yesterday that Keith Olbermann indicated last night that SC Fitzgerald had a meeting with someone scheduled today, in addition to a possible appearance in front of the grand jury?
Where’s Stephen Hadley today? Conspiracy, anyone? Hmmm…..
[Truthout.org’s latest update is winning me over — I think the Rove camp denials have started to sound overplayed. (So what that Bob Luskin’s office isn’t on the fourth floor of Patton Boggs?? Patton Boggs occupies the whole multi-story building, including the fourth floor.) The commenters over at talkleft.com are doing good work.]
New research indicates that humans and chimps were interbreeding- not recently- well- maybe recently:
The team also observed that humans and chimps are very similar on the X chromosome — sometimes referred to as the female sex chromosome, even though both sexes have at least one X chromosome. The average age of the X chromosome in humans is about 1.2 million years “younger” than the rest of the chromosomes, and the final change occurred around 5.4 million years ago.
This suggests that after the first speciation 6.3 million years ago, early human ancestors may have lived and reproduced with ancestral chimps to produce hybrid primates.
“This would help explain why divergence on X between humans and chimps is so low,” Patterson told LiveScience.
Hopefully C&L will have some clips from the bfast.
Pachacutec:
Is there another way to pay for this other than PayPal? I hate PayPal just about as much as W. I do not want to give them my bank a/c info including my access codes, which are also linked to my business a/c.
They are also the most ignorant people to deal with.
What Anne says in 20! I really wish I could be there, but look forward eagerly to hearing everyone’s reports.
Gettin close to 5 pm in Washington- beginnin to look as if today is not the day for the frog march.

I agree. Liberals are supposed to be soft on terrorism but there is nothing soft about arresting, trying, and throwing the book at would be terrorists. The difference isn’t between a soft or hard approach. It’s between being responsible and respecting the law OTOH and being stupid and lawless on the other.
I’ll have to defer all the payment technical questions to Jane, sorry.
squirrilhiller: I know – last time I got beat up for showing cholesterol hell breakfast in the picture. *g*
OT: We just got word we made our goal of 250 CtG copies. Hooray for the grassroots!
Within a DAY I started getting these phishing emails saying my “PayPal account has been compromisedâ€
I get these all the time and I don’t even have a PayPal account. What they’re trying to do is get you worried enough to click on the link and provide all that information. Don’t do it: delete instead. Same for stuff trying to get you to verify account information from banks. If it’s one you have an account with, they have your information already, and they can phone you.
fallenmonk 28, woohoo! Great news.
I volunteered to volunteer at the convention so not sure if I’ll be available at that time. Maybe a round-up some evening?
OT last thread…
Katherine Harris’ appearance in the photos with Whore-hey is her pay off for keeping her mouth shut and is intended to help her flagging campaign. Talk about desperate…
Weicker rocks!!! I just read the editorial. (Sorry for the girlish outburst.)

If Truthout’s story is accurate, how come no other reporter has been able to confirm it? Sure, editors quash stories, but they wouldn’t quash a story sourced to at least two sources that was confirming an already published story.
Whatever happened to Carol Leonnig, the WaPo reporter who was covering the Libby/leak story? She hasn’t been heard from in months.
rwcole #29
It would also explain (as I did on another thread) how a chimp could become President.
OT – CNN reporting that the NOLA levees won’t be ready in time for hurricane season (duh). Didn’t I hear chimpy a couple weeks ago PROMISE they would be ready for hurricane season.
It’s 15 days until hurricane season. Do you know where your levees are?
OT – Abramoff White House Logs Mystery Solved:
The WH has them, which tells us all we need to know about ever being allowed to see them.

Here’s a technique for using paypal or other online payments. I use my bank debit card to get a “Visa Travel Money” debit card from AAA (American Automobile Association). When I use up the money on it, I just get a new one, with a new number. That way I only ever have a temporary number out there on the internets, and I don’t have the hassle of changing compromised numbers.
17 – I don’t hear Luskin or Team Libby DEMANDING a retraction. Is that because the story is accurate, or they want to let the ‘reporters’ swing in the wind?
Most likely they just don’t think Truthout is important enough to pay attention to. It’s not MSM.
If you want to register for more than one person just put it in a note that you can attach to the payment on the PayPal site, we’ll get it.
If you don’t want to use PayPal send us an email telling us you want to reserve a spot and we’ll make arrangements.
And for those of you at YKOS, send photos to a snapfish site or something, wouldja?
Well, if not today for the frogmarch, tomorrow would be way cool– just about an hour after Hayden testilies to the Senate.
re YearlyKos– Will the revolution be televised?
I had to go out for awhile.
Has Jason Leopold been indicted yet?
“testilies” lol – I’m hoping for a friday frogmarch. it will make a great birthday present for me.
–beware the frogs of march
Pach,
I can’t go, but my organization (The Democracy Cell Project )will be sending a couple of folks.
Here’s my question, I see that you mentioned that there might be some cash-strapped folks who would like to attend the breakfast but can’t. I was wondering if there’s anyway that I could maybe sponsor a couple of people.
Is there some “breakfast scholarship fund” type thing set up for this that I could contribute to? I can’t help everyone, but I am sure I could buy breakfast for some fellow FDL bloggers.
Do you know how I would go about doing this?
Hugh – it’s that world with horses v. world without thing. *g*
Link to Think Progress story Primordial mentions:
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/…..ive-order/
How State Secrets stuff is used, in general, IMO:
http://www.legalaffairs.org/is…..rapr06.msp
Note on recent and past uses includes this information:
The modern standard for the state secrets privilege was articulated by the Supreme Court in U.S. v. Reynolds, a 1953 landmark ruling that is the justices’ only substantive examination of the privilege. In October 1948, a B-29 aircraft crashed while testing secret electronic equipment. Six crew members and three civilian observers aboard the plane were killed. The government would not release the results of its investigation, including 51 pages of interviews with witnesses and a narrative of the crash, so the widows of the three deceased civilians sued. The 6-3 majority said the executive branch had the authority to withhold information about “military matters which, in the interest of national security, should not be divulged.”
The court’s holding turned out to be based on a false premise.
Surely not?
Declassified by the Air Force and then discovered in 2000, the accident report contained no state secrets. Instead, it told a story of negligence. The plane had lacked heat shields that were required by regulation, and, without them, it was considered unsafe.
Glad we had a cover up – uh, “national security protection” for that info.
Mary @ 1:35 pm (#15) – Guess I assume Arar isn’t guilty of anything because he seems like just another computer nerd, but that’s not necessarily true. I’m also accustomed to assuming that the more certain intelligence people sound of themselves, the more likely it is they don’t know what they’re talking.
Which brings us back to a subject from yesterday – how in the world could this possibly be worth classifying? The Canadian revelations are embarrassing enough for both counties. It’s hard to imagine what could make relations worse.
Good article, by the way, and more than a little irony. I was struck by this bit:
Ruemmler called their defense “absurd” and “ridiculous,” echoing words Skilling used to describe some of the allegations against him during his testimony.
The part I highlighted sums up the whole Dot-bomb, Enron, Worldcom “smartest guys in the room” period. Now, people who actually know what they’re talking about (as opposed to me) are welcome to disagree, but I think blaming bad publicity and loss of (stock) market confidence for the failure of your company is a bit like blaming the mirror for the image you see in it. Companies that are well managed and have a good product shouldn’t be sunk by bad publicity. They hang on and then bounce back.
These guys tried to build a skyscraper on sand, and compensated for the shifty foundation by building the structure out of toothpicks. Then they blamed the wind for flattening it.
Just tried to pay with CC again through PayPal but they will not take them now. The awful thing is that they’re even asking for log-in name + password with bank now. Never has any business asked me for that before.
Happy birthday in advance twolf1– you know, in case things rise to a fever pitch round here and you get slighted!!!
Boo .. I am won’t be able to attend … but I’m wondering if we all wrote a “pretty please ” letter to CSPAN .. if we could get them to cover it live … ?
Pretty Please .. ?
Pach,
Do I need to be registered with yearlykos to register for FDL breakfast? Don’t know yet if I’m going and won’t til 5th or 6th. Breakfast I could donate(or a tip), but yearlykos reg. too much if I can’t make it.
Genoasail:
That’s very generous. You can make your donation without reservation through the Paypal link Jane provided. We’ll be sure any extra amount goes to help those who need it. You can apend a note that this is a non-reservation donation, or set quantity = 0.
Hope that helps, and thanks for your thoughtfulness!
You can register for breakfast without registering yet for Ykos, but attendance is for people who attend the conference.
But I understand you to want to make a contrubution even as you postpone your final decision on attending, and have your reservation secure in case you do attend. That’s fine.
JWR 44, that post does also note that the lawsuit against the WH for the record Gannon/Guckert’s visits was ultimately successful, so I’d like to see someone go ahead and file. They may decide, as they apparently did in the G/G case, that refusing to respond is something they can’t afford politically.
re: my comment (#54) – The end of the first paragraph should read “what they’re talking about“.
I have to head out for a bit, folks, but Jane is lurking, and I can answer questions later.
Remember, you can always email questions, too. My addy can be found under the contact link to the right side of the page.
Good ol’ Karl. He’s helping out those poor beleagued phone jammin’ GOPers in New Hampshire. A nice little fundraising dinner, with proceeds going directly to the NHRSC’s law firm. Out of the sheer goodness of his heart, you understand.
(And aren’t those guys at TPMuckraker doing some fine work these days?)
Waiting for punishment for Kenny boy, Skilling, Delay, Abramoff, Libby and on and on. Waiting for justice from Fitz… war crimes trials for you know who(s)… impeachment… fair elections that finally go our way…
Waiting for the truth and peace on earth.
Have we ever lived in such bizarre times? Really.
rwcole,29:”New research indicates that humans and chimps were interbreeding- not recently- well- maybe recently.”
Great! Now we can do Dubya’s genealogy chart. At most though, I would say he is chimp on only one side…looks too human to be 100% chimp.
“the lawsuit . . . for the record of G/G’s visits was ultimately successful.”
I, too, wish I could get to Vegas but it’s not in the cards. How about a podcast? Being a charter member luddite I don’t know what that would entail. Enjoy, everyone!
Cujo-
“7th Largest Corporation in the U.S.” …
Goes “poof” and there’s hardly a ripple in the markets? hahahahahahahahahaha….!!!!
I always loved that assertion (which the MSM still trots out). They weren’t 7th largest anything (except for ego vanity, but they were #1 there). That metric — “in terms of revenue” — was useless, given that the “revenue” as nearly all fictitious. That they disappeared from the market overnight and NOTHING bad happened (to the market, not the individual suckers) tells all.
wolfie’s gonna talk to dead-eye’s daughter— coming up blah, blah, blah and we’ll talk about her role as a lesbian, blah, blah, blah
I kid you not.
rwcole @ 1:42 pm (#19) – According to this article at C&L, Busby has pulled ahead of Bilbray.
Just might be that the phone message, was, shall we say, an exaggeration brought on by being on the wrong side of poll data.
new ball of yarn upstairs!
OT: C&L has a clip of Colbert on John Gibson’s call for more white babies:
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..html#a8327
Don’t hold back, ladies …
can i just ask, which army is attacking marriage? Doktor Frist says marriage is under attack in this country. sheesh. such a dumbo statement and thought.
fahrender: AAR are sponsoring and broadcasting from the event. They are providing free broadband for us all for the whole time too.
I can’t go either, but I would donate too if you tell me how/make it possible. Great idea.
Other than paypal – won’t touch it.
BobbyG @ 2:25 pm (#69) – Clueless and downright collaborative coverage by the news is one of the reasons Enron got away with this for so long. No one who took a serious look at that company could have said with a straight face that they were for real. There were only a few reporters who ever questioned what was going on, and I don’t think they got much support from their publishers, for the most part.
angie @ 2:28 pm (#72) – Mary Cheney’s playing a lesbian? Go figure.
angie -
We simply MUST defend the nation against the prancing hordes of gays and lesbians in tuxes and gowns terroristically assaulting wedding chapels across the land.
Cujo -
They formed all these subsids that “bought” and “sold” pieces of paper back & forth endlessly to each other, at whatever prices THEY put on them, booking each transaction as “revenue” — and the dopes in the MSM finacial press didn’t get it. Seventh Largest U.S. Corporation!!!
Right. Yeah, we need FEWER regulations. Just like Reagan argued as he precipitated the S&L scam.
OT – Was reading TPM, and there is a short blurb about an oped by Kevin Phillips about Rubin, Clinton’s former Secretary of the Treaury. No love lost there, is my guess.
But there is one quote from the bio that says this
“He [Rubin] is trying to enlist disaffected moderate Republicans in groups like the Council on Foreign Relations and several budget organizations to back the newly centrist and pro-finance Hillary Clinton in 2008. Presumably this includes the further Hamiltonization of the party of Jefferson and Jackson.”
That explains Hillary to me at least. I had thought for awhile that Clinton sees a chance to form a ‘centrist’ organization with many disaffected Republicans that would be more like the conservative dem DLC pro business group. but I am shocked as another Clintonista loses his luster, for me at least.
Mary @ 1:35 pm (#15) – Fitzgerald has his own torture case in Chicago and took the position that the NSLs are not a big deal at all bc, of course if they were misused there would be some brave FBI whistleblower to ride up on a white horse or recently confiscated moped and make it all come out right. Uh huh.
Forgot about this one. I think Mr. Fitzgerald needs to take a week off, put Babylon 5 DVDs in the ole player and watch carefully. Anyone who has seen that series and paid attention knows how you stifle dissent in a government. First you replace the guys at the top, then they put “loyal” people in key positions in each agency. The get rid of a few troublemakers and everyone else is then afraid to do or say anything.
It is, in fact, startlingly like the strategy that BushCo has been using.
Of course, he could review the history of fascism and communism to find out the same thing, but then he’d miss seeing Claudia Christian.
Cujo – (and BobbyG)Excellent points on Enron esp re: market response re: true capitalization. I like the “blaming the mirror†take, but I still reserve the right to blame my mirror. ;-) One of the interesting things that is not discussed much is how Enron used their gov contacts to twist arms of entities to enter into disproportionate contracts, and even so they tanked. Actually, their partnership spinning should look very familiar to both Cheney and to GWB. Esp GWB.
Re: Arar I’m sure not saying he’s guilty either. I have no idea. Once upon a time I would have relied upon well trained, non-criminal, intel professionals having some basis for action, especially after review and input from so many at so many levels, and even more esp aftere the legal oversight which included making representations to the court. NOW – I don’t have faith that there is a one of them that wouldn’t cover for illegal and embarrassing crap and sell out the legal system and Constitution along the way. That said –I also know there are lots of bad guys (even outside our government) and lots of bad sneaky look-ok-but-don’t-look-too-close guys.
As best I can understand (can’t dig up links now and I think some of what I recollect is from the court docs – which seem jinxed to link to or copy/paste) Arar knows someone who is al-Qaeda. I believe he said that he thinks the whole thing is related to the fact that he had met, although according to him he never worked with or was close with, someone who even Arar seems to think would be deemed al-Qaeda. So, the “classified†would pretty much have to do with Gov saying the whats, hows, whys etc. about things they knew of Arar’s interaction with ‘that guy’ and about ‘that guy’.
Maybe they know a WHOLE LOT about ‘that guy’ and it indicates beyond a shadow of a doubt that Arar is one of the “worst of the worst†that someone ended up in Canada instead of that well known Cuban “worst of the worst†destination. Maybe they didn’t want their info on ‘that guy’ to have to become public bc then ‘that guy’ would know what they had, or other al-Qaeda might know something about the networking, etc. I’m not saying I can’t see anything that might make sense. What I am saying is if they had info on Arar gathered through, oh, say, wiretaps on ‘that guy’ or what have you – then you make the decision on how to proceed legally, knowing that you have various concerns to weigh and balance. Offer info under seal, let someone go and keep under surveillance, etc. but you don’t just ship people to black holes of torture bc it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Arar’s actions since being released make him look like someone who has much less to hide than the governments involved though. The fact that the State Department here is incensed that Canada actually asked Syria to release Arar just blows me away. They are so mad they put it in the report – how dare Canada actually get one of its citizens that was kidnapped by the US and turned over for torture in Syria released? WHAT are they thinking?
Shows where our roads lead these days and I still say the lawyers paved those roads.
Just saw Mary Cheney on the “Situation Room.” If I had closed my eyes, I would’ve sworn it was Tori Clarke talking. Mary has that same sly, crooked smile as her dad & seems about as likeable.
My 2004 campaign song, to the tune of Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” -

I’d love to go to Y-Kos, man, June 10, can’t swing it.
Next year maybe
OT: Watching the Colbert John Gibson exchange, quite funny. But it puts me in mind of a Larry Niven/Stephen Barns novel ‘Saturns Race‘
The fictional narrative is that the late 21rst century saw massive social change as a result of the ‘population/contraceptive minded’ portion of the western world effectively ’selecting themselves out of existence’.
Since the people who for social, ethnic, material or religious reasons weren’t amenable to the idea of contraception/population control, they eventually overran the population that was, and within a few of generations the contraceptive-population control influence waned altogether.
The setting is centuries after that period, but the idea of natural ’social selection’, struck me as interesting, perhaps Gibson is expressing a similar angst.
Fitz is givin’ me Fitz right about now – where are ya baby?
And, speaking of Fitz (so sorry to be so lame), does anyone (please) have the link to his website they can post? Would like to keep an eye on it…
Am waiting to hear back from a friend before I sign up for the FDL breakfast – will the end of this week be too late?
Mary @ 2:47 pm (#86) – re: Arar, that’s an explanation that makes sense, at least given how intelligence people tend to behave. Of course, the sensible course would have been for the FBI to share what it knew with the RCMP, and that may have, in fact, happened. If it did, it’s pretty clear the Canadians didn’t find the case compelling. That may have been why the RCMP superintendent was not compelled to testify about everything he knew.
My wife and I will be there!
Count me in!
I’ll be there. And hungry.
I will be there — along with my hubby. Jane, I’ve reserved and paid for two — whatever extra may be in the payment can apply to someone who needs the fundage. :)

Did you get a babysitter lined up?
I’m going stag. My girlfriend is not one that is interested in politics much.
Matt o. — We have. :)
I just registered for myself and my spouse. There was no way to indicate how many were coming for our $30. Looking forward to it!
The closer we get to June and YK, the more I feel like a kid before Xmas. The breakfast sounds divine and I hope there are some rich, fattening goodies. When I am on vacation, I splurge!
Oh geeze, I am so excited!!!
I registered and added sumpin’ for the pot, but didn’t see a place to tell you that. I’ll try an email to the “koberose” address on the Paypal confirmation, but if that doesn’t work, you’ll probably be able to figure out who I am — first name Barbara, last name begins with B (yeah, I know, like that’s a big surprise), Florida address. BTW, Paypal holds no terrors for someone with an Ebay number as high as mine. If emptywheel can’t figure out how to get you the money without using Paypal, then please take her breakfast out of the sumpin’ I added. Can’t have a post-Plame breakfast without her!
I am ever so late to the ball (again). And as green as Leslie in CA and Anne because I can’t be at YKos, either. But I know this will be wonderful and with the addition of Murray Waas, well, who can top that?
I just read the op-ed by Sen. Weicker wrt Ned Lamont. I just want to say that Sen. Weicker was the man I fell in love with during the Watergate hearings. I know my fondness for him was not misplaced.
Will the Plame panel in Vegas be televised on C-Span?
I sent $15 by PayPal, but there was no place to add a note to the payment when I clicked the link on the website, nor to tell you who it was for (my PayPal email address is quite different from my Kos address).
So, I sent an email to the koberose99-firedoglake@yahoo.com address shown on the PayPal site, and I just got this from Yahoo:
host mx2.mail.yahoo.com[67.28.113.70] said: 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn’t have a yahoo.com account (koberose99-firedoglake@yahoo.com) [-15] – mta108.mail.re4.yahoo.com
What the…? Have I been phished? I went from the PayPal link at the bottom of the luscious-looking breakfast pic and invite. Is there no registration form? Who is getting the money if the Yahoo email isn’t valid?
Ooh ooh, I wish I could be there. It hurts not to go.
duck tape — don’t worry, Jane, Pach and I are monitoring the incoming. I’m sure you are on the list. The money is going to a central account, which we are holding to pay for the breakfast costs, and going nowhere else. We’ll be posting more details on the breakfast in the next coupla days — as soon as we finalize registration numbers and such. I promise, we have no interest in phishing for your fundage. This is the first type of FDL event we’ve planned and we’re trying to iron out the food kinks and such. Much more info to come.
Sorry, I didn’t see Jane’s instructions about appending a note at the PayPal site until after I’d paid.
So I registered and paid for two breakfasts, but I’ll be coming alone. The other registration fee is a gift to the community.
Thank you.
I’m really bummed. :( I’ve tried to get away from work to get to Yearly KOS, but I’m not going to be able to make it, at least not this year.
*sigh*
