Like so many men who suffer under the delusion that they are catnip to chicks, Enrique Suave Lieberman likes to boast what a friend he is to women. As is often the case, the ladies do not agree.
First prominent women in the Connecticut pro-choice community came together to form Connecticut Choice Voice for the express purpose of backing Lamont. Then Carolyn Treiss, current head of NARAL-CT, came out in support of Ned. And now the National Organization for Women has endorsed him, too.
How many pro-choice groups have come out and endorsed Holy Joe on the heels of both his Alito vote and his friendly advice to rape victims about the "short trip" they all ought to be wiling to take to get emergency contraception? Let me get my pencil out, do a bit of quick addition, that would be…none.
Bush’s favorite Democrat is that dweeb in the bar who finds himself irresistible. Which is I suppose a good thing, since it looks like the ladies seem to be leaving him to enjoy his own company.

fitz?
Hey Teddy,
Fitz me too
FITZ!!
Hey, baby — wanna come back to my place and fitz?
Night Train, Oh, Jane!!!!
gag me with a spoon.
fitz – the real ladies’ man!
*sigh*
Just got word over the AP wire that Bob Casey won the Dem primary in Pennsylvania. He’s better than Santorum, but he’s a “pro-life democrat” (hurl!). Well, still, anything to get Little Ricky out of office and spanked hard in the November elections.
zen,
are you OK and dry? I’m on the Cape which was surprisingly spared much of the deluge. Been thinking about you.
A fellow blogger borrowed my camera today to shoot the NOW event endorsing Ned Lamont, and I’m rendering the video right now.
I’ve got a teaser video from the event up on my blog right now, and in about an hour I should have a complete 11-minute video posted. It looked like a great event, and Lamont is really hitting his stride.
Olberman tonight mentioned that Fitzgerald is meeting tomorrow in DC with someone (some lawyers?) and will probably be around for the GJ meeting as well. Any thoughts on what this means?
Gay marriage was shot down in Georgia by a Judge on a technical… Guess what folks!!! The Cons are dragging out the gay marriage card again.

^^^ HELP IMPEACH TODAY
Keep the pressure on Congress… Talking about impeachment wakes people up… They question, it’s a strong motivator to get people thinking. It also lets Congress know how intense the dissapproval is for this President… They seem to be a little slow on the uptake. So please:
1) Sign petitions if you have not done so
2) Send a letter to Congress (both Senators & House rep)
3) Send a copy to the media
4) Enlist friends and family to help, ask them to chip in time
5) Spread the link around, email it (with a request to forward) post it on a blog, or in the comments of a news story.
Help out!!!
Thanks :)
Its great that Lamont is challenging Joementum. And I hope he gets the 15% delegate count at the convention and goes on to win the primary.
What’s a shame is that there are so few primary challenges to the DINOs and Dems without courage of conviction and Dems that are willing to sabotage the party to be seen as “centrist” when they are really stooges for the big money campaign donors.
Where are the challengers to Hillary and DiFi? We need more progressive and courageous Dems in Dem leaning states and districts to shake up the party oligarchy.
what is so very funny is that Joe really is a whiny little dweeb; the bit he did about switching to independent if he couldn’t get elected as a Dem? But, But, But……but I’m a really good guy and I’ll work for you!!!
To late, AV boy!

What is Night Train?
Ghostman
Night Train, an original cheapo Gallo product. One of the fuels that Jack Kerouac powered himself with back in the era of “We’re men and we can explore ourselves” 1950s. That Saturday night line is a great one but sort of an insult to Night Train.
How about my senator Kennedy? Does he have the Biden/Lieberman excema?
Hey, is that the Rev. Al Green?
If that’s you, Rev, I just wanna say:
“I’m still, in, love, withyou!”
What do you guys think: When a DINO gets challenged in the primaries by a progressive do they tend to move right or left?

Hi Deb, I’m fine, we have no outgoing phones but I don’t like the phone so I don’t feel inconvenienced. I was out working all weekend and it was pretty awful all around. Parts of Salem and Peabody were shut down by Sunday Am and Route One is still closed. Took an hour to go 18 miles and I can’t imagine how the nurses are getting out this week to see patients. Lots of evacuations, one of our elderly housing places is under water and will have to be redone, I’m sure, it’s just down the street from the place I posted. I think all those folks got put in area nursing homes, that’s how it’s usually done. I feel bad for them. It’s much worse inland near rivers, but Peabody (next to Salem) is essentially closed.
Thanks for asking.
Jane –
I believe you and your single-mined focus on Joe’s “gurney to taxi” rape treatment program are the cause.
The result – Ned’s pro-choice support.

Hypatia,
The information in that filing (dated May 12)looks familiar to me. I think the FDL community is familiar with it.
But thank you very much for keeping tabs on the Fitzgerald web site. I check back there myself quite a bit, as I expect it may be one of the first, if not the first, place that we get word of any media announcements, etc.
sanitas — thanks.
d mason — I did worry about that
matt o — I’m adding that to my “Joementum” definition:
Joementum (jÅ-mÄ•n’tÉ™m) n., 1. neologism coined to indicate momentum where none was obvious to anyone but the candidate. 2. a portmanteau referring to the perceived lack of potential for success of a campaign or endeavor.
Me3 at 11…Gay marriage will be an issue in the fall, however in Georgia it was actually the ban on gay marriage that was shot down. Apparently the judge decided to follow the law…the one that says voters can decide on only one issue per ballot. I can’t remember exact details, but CNN had a pretty good explanation on their site.
Thanks, kirk, are you a nurse or a doc???

As for Joementum and Schumer, I’ve got my own “checks” designed to send to the DSCC and DCCC that tell them that my money goes to candidates I find through the progressive blogs. Gonna test drive the checks through our roots project group and see if folks think we should send them out to the rest of the roots group for those who want to print them out and use them. Hypatia @ 7:07 pm (#33) – I’m able to open those files with a Firefox browser on a Linux system, so I suspect the problem is something along the lines of you not having a PDF (AKA Acrobat) plugin for your browser. Try doing a “save link as” if you can’t look at it directly.
If Linux/Firefox works, it’s usually not some strange software requirement that’s the problem.

What, no ads for cheap iPods like at the WaPo Blog?
60 obsessed — Kos has said lamont is in striking distance. I think it’s 51/31 right now amongst Democrats, with Ned’s principle problem being awareness. When people know who he is and what he stands for, they like him.
He needs to be endorsed by 15 percent of delegates to force a primary through party rules, or collect enough signatures to get on the ballot. Ned has gotten a remarkable amount of national publicity already and should that happen he will no doubt get a great deal more, which is what he needs.
for a while, I was posting Nigerian Email investment scams on the WaPoo Blog … they’d stay up for days …
A complete transcript of Ned’s remarks at the press conference announcing the NOW endorsement has been posted at My Left Nutmeg
An excerpt:
And I look at the callousness, the callousness of the response when it comes to rape victims going to — any hospital. We talk about universal health care in this country. We ought to have a basic level of health care that’s available for everybody.
My God, how can you deny that basic level of health care to rape victims when they go to a hospital? They don’t choose the hospital they’re going to. That’s a basic right that ought to be there and you’re going to have a Senator who’s going to stand up and say “You’re going to be required to provide emergency contraception to every rape victim, wherever they may go. We’re going to make this available over the counter. We’re not going to put women into this impossible situation where they’re forced to make these terrible choices.
TRex — hey that WaPo ad made me want to buy an iPod, so I did.
I needed something to carry it in when I run on the beach so I went to Fred Meyer’s and I found this thing that would have been perfect, and it was reasonably priced, and I just COULD NOT DO IT.
It wasn’t that I’d have a problem wearing it, because there’s never anyone on the beach but me and the dogs. But I just could not reconcile my self-image with being the owner of a dreaded FANNY PACK.

68 Jane — so when will we know if he’s gotten on the ballot? I hate Lieberman so much that I actually contributed to the Lamont campaign even though I’m 3,000 miles away. I can’t imagine that Lieberman could possibly win the nomination in a state which is so intensely anti-Bush — only 31% approval rating in the latest SUSA 50 State Poll.
By the way, this is a new (5-15) posting for SUSA and Bush has gone even farther down. Utah went from 55% to 51% and only 3 states are now net positive for Bush. Even Oklahoma has turned on him!

Austin, Texas – I hate to raise such an ugly possibility, but have you considered lunacy as an explanation? Craziness would make a certain amount of sense. I mean, you announce you are going to militarize the Mexican border, but you assure the president of Mexico you are not militarizing the border. You announce you are sending the National Guard, but then you assure everyone it’s not very many soldiers and just for a little while.
Militarizing the border is a totally terrible idea. Do we have a State Department? Are they sentient?

Hi Zen -
Wow – good for you for doing the hospice work! That’s such a great gift to bring to patients and their loved ones.
I’m a doc myself (don’t tell TomKat’s crowd, but I’m a shrink). My little shrink niches are consult-liaison and affective/anxiety disorders.
I did C/L work with a big ‘ol teaching hospital’s oncology service until I moved to the SF Bay a few years ago. I loved the work, too – helping folks facing the prospect of their own mortality is an amazing experience.
I wish no one had* to endure cancer, but I haven’t found the genie yet. Even if the genie grants the wish, we’ll still be needing hospices – for our patients, loved ones, our little ol’ clinical selves.
The hospice clicians I’ve met have such a wonderful centered caring presence. Thanks so much for what and yor colleagues do.
And good luck with the flood.
PS – I’ve had the great fun of providing first aid/clinic services for the Ruckus’ society’s week-long training camps. The site for the Fall 2003 camp in Florida was under floodwaters until a few days before camp.
The good folks at Ruckus set up the med tent in a nice shady spot under some big ‘ol iconinc trees.
Nothing like venomous snakes bouncing off the tent roof to stir up the morning clinic….

It is obvious that most people don’t really follow politics closely enough to comnnect the dots…
I.E., that a Republican congress will rubberstamp the Bush agenda…
That is how you get a place like Maine where Olympia Snowe is in the 60% in support but the Authoritarian Chimp is in the low 30’s.
If only we can drum it into some heads that a vote for Snowe is a vote for George W. Bush.

Some of you, particularly any veterans, might be aware of COL Pat Lang’s blog, Sic Semper Tyrranis. Tonight he’s posted a remarkable exchange of e-mails between Joe Galloway, the Knight-Ridder war correspondent and Larry DiRita, Donald Rumsfeld’s chief spokesman. More background may be found on COL Lang’s site and in Gen. Barry McCaffrey’s preamble.
The exhange is contained in a MS Word document that must be downloaded and runs four pages.
Here’s the link to the blog:

gooper women’s group finds a new cause:
Perhaps most striking about the audit plan is a detailed survey which allows parents to rate their children’s school based on how tolerant it is to homosexual themes. The 100-point audit questionnaire singles out topics such as “anti-harassment or anti-bullying” policies, “objectionable books” in libraries, “diversity days” and curricula that include “tolerance programs” or “families headed by homosexuals.” Schools are penalized most for including HIV/safe-sex curricula, “homosexual clubs,” or required teacher sensitivity training.
“It’s a good way to determine quickly if your school has knowingly or unknowingly let homosexual activists and materials in the door under the radar of ‘diversity’ or ‘anti-bullying’ or ‘AIDS education,’” CWA’s Virginia State Director Patricia Phillips said in a release.

this is a real question. I seek self-knowledge.

Thank you for the honor.

I got my iPod mini for $85 on eBay.
Jodie Foster hammers Bush at Penn’s commencement:
“The U.S. “squandered” the goodwill and sympathy other nations offered after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Foster said. She also criticized officials for the “disastrous and shameful” handling of Hurricane Katrina.
Penn seniors had expressed skepticism and seemed underwhelmed by her selection as commencement speaker when it was announced earlier this year, but she received a standing ovation after her speech….”
Ron Zuber #113 – You should’ve said why. They sued because people were discussing trade company secrets online.
That’s one Yalie I was very proud to read of yesterday, John Casper. Fine and lovely actress with a beautiful mind, too!
OT– RIP George Crile from 60 minutes
>>>>>>>>>>>
George Crile III, the CBS producer who wrote the best-selling book “Charlie Wilson’s War” and produced a contested documentary that said Gen. William Westmoreland deliberately under-reported enemy troop strength in Vietnam, has died. He was 61.

You mean like publishing secret CIA prisons in the newspapers? Does that mean the newspaper should be successfully sued?
Apple is welcome to punish employees who leak, not blogs reporting the news.

Re: Jodie Foster — her attire possibly a blue dress?
(ala the graphic for a post here t’other day…)
Nah. On second thought musta had the traditional black robe stylin’…but good on her for speaking out. And good on the Penn alums for the standing O.
forgive me punaise – a case of Penn and teller?
Matt O.- thanks. You can give me some tips off line.
Blank Kludge– now if we can get those Penn alums to get out and vote all over the country! ;)
Jane and all you lucky iPod owners, consider tossing the earbuds and wearing over the ear type headphones to protect your hearing.

And now for a little reality check – but only if ya want a real uplift!
Blue Nation by Chris Bowers, MyDD
Ever since 2000, American progressives have been subjected to a steady stream of red-blue electoral maps.
(snip)
However, the situation has now changed. The new Survey USA 50-state Bush approval rating shows the depth of Bush’s troubles.
(snip)
Given this situation, I thought I would take the opportunity to turn the tables on Republicans and show the current county-by-county and state-by-state electoral maps. Using the Survey USA numbers and information form Dave Leip’s excellent election map resource, I have been able to create solid estimates of the current red-blue geography:

Wow, Muzzy’s friend is awesome on Colbert!!! Good on him. Tyson Slocum. hmmmm.
i’m just diving in here, not having read the thread. always a day late and a dollar short.
i think it would be good if we really cool it on the fitz speculation. it’s a good way to waste energy. the applause can be thunderous if we are stoic and patient, like fitz himself.
FITZ. FEINGOLD and FDLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Here’s a link to the Lamont video (probably already posted..I have been spacing out)
“This video introduces you to Ned, contains interviews with many Connecticut voters, and information on the actions and positions of Senator Lieberman.”
angie – I have to stay up til 11:30 tonight to catch him on the left coast, or wait until the replay tomorrow. Sounds like it’s going well. cool.

i think i bit off more than i cook-nkew
cook-knew
sigh
kirk murphy– I just sear them in a bit of good olive oil in a hot saute pan after salting and peppering them. If the pan is nice and moderately hot, they should caramelize nicely in about a minute and then flip them and do the same to the other side til they are just opaque and remove them from the pan. Don’t move them around during cooking, cause you won’t get the same effect.
I then toss in some white wine and lemon juice and fish stock, if I have it. If the scallops have rendered any liquid add it and some minced shallots if you have them and finish the sauce with a few chunks of butter whisked in and garnish with parsley. Voila. If you have none of the ingredients except the scallops, just salt, pepper and sear away. Scrumptious.
Is the Defining “Joementum” Sweepstakes still open?
I have 2 entries:
1. That unfortunate residue left in the seat of your pants by a fart gone awry.
2. That sinking feeling that no matter how much you wipe, there’s still going to be a stain later.
Sorry folks, but when I think Lieberman, I think excrement.
wow – thank you, angie and vg!
can we fdl’ers have local munch/foodie salons?
thanks again….
wow, I am reposting backwards– this is a first– but is important for the recipe above, cause i am not sure where kirk is now…

whoops, big time– kirk– remove the scallops after you have seared them and before you do the sauce thing in the pan!!!
hi angie – thanks for the addendum -
life could have been very aromatic here :)
thanks again :)
Yo Jane – Playboys and Night Train – hey, lay off my hobbies….
Seriously, I think the problem is that Joe has been giving too much Joellatio to too many Republican office holders. To think that this is was Gore’s choice in 2006 to represent the Democratic party…. Unbelievable. Can you even for a second imagine a Republican office holder from a red state pandering to the Democratic party this way?
As for Joe’s luck with the ladies, he should have a talk with me. Cause I could school him. Once you’ve had a tax attorney with two kids in diapers, you never go back. Just ask my wife. Oh. No, dear G-d, please don’t….

al-Scooter says
a remarkable exchange of e-mails between Joe Galloway, the Knight-Ridder war correspondent and Larry DiRita, Donald Rumsfeld’s chief spokesman.
Thanks for the link al-Scooter!
BTW, for those who care to give Larry DiRita a piece of their mind, the document that al-Scooter refered to had Larry’s email address at the Office of the Secretary of Defense. It is larry.dirita@osd.mil in case you want to drop him a line. LOL!
I blame Lieberman and Collins for the Katrina fiasco. Lieberman has a penchant to reorganize everytime something goes wrong with government response to a challange. FEEMA was a great organization before being subsumed by DHS, which has turned out to be one gigantic lemon of an organization. Lieberman and Collins sure did a number on the agencies wiped out of their independence through the creation of DHS.. Never accountablity or incompetence investigations, rather, lets reorganize. Reorganizing around incompetentcy, the managerial trap to be avoided, learned in management 101, seems to be ignored. He, and yes Collins again, the bobsy twins, even foolishly suggested an outside organization be created to police ethics in the senate. How silly! Now he seeks reelection…AIPAC put the screws to Hillary (shame on her) to endorse this less than effective statesman. His continued sickening support for the Iraq fiasco, reveals an intellect sorely lacking in rigour. Ridding Lieberman from the senate will raise the level of senate perspicacity, and wish Connecticut well in that effort.
