There’s every reason to think we’re having an impact. I’m excited to see our Senators appear to be responsive to actions the group has taken — whether the attribution of cause upon effect is true or not, it certainly feels great.

There is no excuse for unauthorized disclosures of classified information, it is argued, because whistleblowers who have legitimate complaints about classified government misconduct can use official channels to convey those concerns on a classified basis.

But as a practical matter, those channels are often blocked or ineffectual.

That is what former NSA employee Russell D. Tice discovered when he attempted to initiate contact with the Senate and House Intelligence Committees to report what he believed to be “probable illegal misconduct” by the NSA.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) did not respond to Mr. Tice’s approach at all.

Members of Congress (as with the President and VP, SCOTUS, or other federal court judges) have never been required to hold security clearances.

Let me tell you something. Wall Street knows, we are winning this war on terror. They are not afraid that we will win it. They are so secure in President Bush’s winning it, they are not going to let some puny, little traitor, some leaker who went ahead and compromised our national security, take down this, take down our market, take down our country, there is no way.

The 28% dead-enders really are this friggin’ desperate to avoid reality, aren’t they? The pig’s out of the poke, folks. It became crystal clear yesterday that what BushCo has the NSA doing with these phone records has NOTHING to do with keeping tabs on terrorists, and EVERYTHING to do with domestic surveillance for its own sake. It’s nothing more than glorified window-peeping, and that’s why you’re seeing people like Scarborough and even Newt Gingrich coming out with uncharacteristically harsh statements about what’s going on here, and why you’re going to see people of all political stripes getting pissed about this NSA domestic data-mining scheme once it sinks in what it all means.

The spit-bubbling Bush cultists out there can throw out as much of this warmed-over, Coulter-esque yap flappery as they want to, but it doesn’t change the fact that a failed president just took another major hit below the waterline due once again to his own arrogance, hubris, and utter disregard for the basic ideals on which this nation was founded.

No amount of shrieking about those of us with respect for the Constitution being traitors is going to change the basic facts of the matter.
