Am I missing something? I keep waiting for someone to make the old “liquor in the front, poker in the rear” comment, and nobody’s done it yet.

I do like forni-gate. Maybe the first pun -gate I’ve heard.

Fr. Drinan had an excellent reputation around these parts when he was our U.S. Representative. If he shows up, he will blow that rep into the teenchiest of smithereens!

GrandmaJ — If for some reason those links don’t work, the hotel is the Riviera and the toll-free number is (800)634-6753. To get the discount, tell the reservations person it’s for Yearly Kos. It is possible to find cheaper rooms at the Riv online, and the YKOS folks can still get credit for it. However, the cheaper (standard) rooms seem to be further from the convention area, if that’s a concern. Tell the reservation operator (assuming you go that route) about your disability and request a room close to the convention area; online, according to the hotel map, that appears to be the Monte Carlo tower.

I hope you come, and I’m sure there will be plenty of FDLers (me included) more than happy to help you perambulate, or roll, or whatever you need to get around.

Werll, for all you attending these blog conferences such as Yearlykos, I sincerely hope you will have some more serious panel discussions than patting yourselves on the back for being so powerful, and being quoted in the MSM!. I watched the Democratic Policy Institute conference on CSPAN yesterday and was very impressed with the calibre of the ideas and the presentations. I rarely hear them articulated as clearly or so many sensible solutions put forward on the blogs. I have recently returned from a book contract signing trip to the South and find that mmost people appear to be either oblivious to the state of the nation or completely apathetic still. Traffic at morning and evening rush hours in Atlanta is a fourhour gridlock nightmare with most of the cars SVU’s driven by one driver returning home to the suburbs 50 miles in either direction through miles and miles of shopping centres A ‘pox on both your houses’ mood definitely appears to prevail and I am reasonbaly certain that most people will show their displeasure by just staying home. Until and unless the Democratic Party either changes its leadership ( I nominate Russ Feingold and Rahm Emanuel to take over leadership positions from Pelosi and Reid) or puts out a position statement and sticks to it, I truly believe many of you are wishfully thinking. Even if the Democrats do take back the House and Senate what are they going to any differently? except give the Republican Party a massive opportunity for a total comeback four years later. Wake up America. Bush, despite the polls, still doesn’t give a damn, and basically has everything under his control. Instead of threatening to investigate everyone and everything, I think the Democrats should be looking to the future and designing long term plans to 1) replace fossil fuels with renewable resources immediatly and slap windfall profit taxes on the ouil companies and under the anti-trust laws restore competition by forcing them to break up again 2) usher in the era of universal healthcare, including prescription drugs 3) stop the war and demand a global security and peace force including the Arab nations take over in Iraq, and immediately demand of Israel and Palestine that they recognise each others right to exist and work together 4) sit down and start talking future with Iran 5) repeal ALL tax cuts for anyone earning over $50,000 a year 6) remove all tariffs on ethanol 7) stop doing business with China unless they peg their currency to global norms 8) pass an immediate immigration amnesty for everyone in the country and the queue and impose a fair quota on all nations from now on and fine corporations hiring illegal aliens 9)pass a minimum wage pegged at the poverty level currently in existence and stop touting Hilary Clinton for President 10) abandon the missile defense program and start paying attention to the root causes of terrorism by propping up authoritarian regimes in the Middle East. Plus a lot more attention to what the people of Latin America are doing with their natural resources. Touting democracy while esposing blatant corporate autocracy in the name of capitalism is mindless and senseless and we are not fooled. Then I might go out and vote, if not, I too, sit this one out.

GrandmaJ,

for the opportunity to enfold you in my arms and give you a great big, long hug, I would contribute to your travel fund, too. I hope you go. Consider it a sort of therapy.

You have no idea how excited I am about the convention. I even convinced my brother to come along. He needs a name-tag name, though. Any suggestions?
