In case you hadn’t noticed, trying to tar the opposition with the “drug abuser” label has been a disaster in the past. How about doing something constructive, like putting forth a viable presidential candidate for once?

There are some rules that most of us learned in kindergarten…you don’t make fun of things that people can’t control. You don’t humiliate the fat chick on the bus, you don’t imitate the disabled kid drooling on his wheelchair, and you don’t mock a kid because of the color of his skin.

Mental illness is a medical condition. You’d rightfully think that a patient with diabetes who refused to take insulin was an idiot. So, why is mental illness fair game for pot shots?

I know full well that most of those applauding you, were the topic of medical insurance coverage of mental health issues to come up, would fall squarely on the side of health insurance coverage for a medical condition of the brain (what mental health problems are).

If Maureen Dowd or one of your heroes came out and spoke publicly about having depression or anxiety, and encouraged people to seek out medical treatment that could better their lives, you’d applaud.
