Did anyone watch the Scott McClellan farewell piece on This Week and notice the flak jacket he displayed, which is traditionally passed on from one press secretary to the next? Now, I recall that, when the Bushies first moved into the White House, one of the most heinous accusations they leveled at the departing Clinton staff when they accused them of trashing the place was that they had absconded with that very same flak jacket. I guess the Bushies figured no one would remember after six years so that it was safe now to bring the jacket out of Karl Rove’s closet…

To say that Nancy Pelosi did a horrible job would be an understatement. Like so many she is following the advice that she should not actually say anything, but rather let the Republicans implode. Jesus she wouldn’t even say that were the Dem’s to take the house that they would repeal Bush’s tax cuts.

This absence of a stand will come back to bite the party in the ass. Thank god for Feingold and the few others that have the gumption to say what they actually stand for.

So you think maybe Pelosi said that so George and Dick won’t automatically bomb Iran as soon as the GOP loses the House and Senate?

My favorite hummer patio (other than my own, which I love for its convenience):

Bandelier Nat’l Monument in New Mexico (short drive from Santa Fe). They are so thick there, some people might think they have to shoo them from their table.

2nd favorite: Any porch with flowers in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park. Mainly for the surroundings.

Katrina’s (nicknamed “Hurricane” by George Will, for actually uttering an opinion) not particularly charismatic, but she stirs the pot. Doesn’t she realize the pundit business is about knowing everything, ignoring half of it, and telling a quarter of it?

Dean didn’t get a nickname, but Stephanopoulos laughed nervously about the DNC Chair’s unabashedness.

Speaking of Stephanopoulos, I thought eunuch’s were supposed to grow fat and get a high voice.

Oops–EPU’d:

I just finished watching Rep. Pelosi speak about the Democratic strategy for November on Meet the Press.
The response to questions about Iraq still sounds weak. It needs to be clear that this problem was created and exacerbated by the Bush Administration alone. The response should sound something more like:

“THE IRAQ WAR WAS NEVER GOING TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING. ANY CHANCE THAT IT WOULD HAVE WAS BLOWN BY THE MISMANAGEMENT OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IN THE FIRST 2 YEARS OF THE WAR. THERE WILL NOT BE A GOOD OUTCOME AT THIS POINT AND NO ONE REALLY EXPECTS ONE. THE DEMOCRATS ARE MERELY TRYING TO CUT OUR LOSSES.â€

The Dems are still letting the media make this the Democrats’ fault somehow.

Anne Holliday:

Naw, this wasn’t the corporate retreat that kept Boxer from attending - it was the state party nominating convention at the convention center in Sacto. Lots of parallel demonstrastions that weekend.

Lots Get Out of Iraq Now signs and street theatre surrounded the convention. The LaRouchies, who totally confuse me, blanketed the convention with people and song. Really. They had choruses every day, good singers singing arrangements with words of their own, all about the moral bankruptcy of politicians. Can anyone explain the LaRouche message to me? I’ve tried to read their pamphlets, but it seems such a mess of truth and bullshit, with bullshit/paranoia winning most paragraphs, that I just give up.

The big draw of the convention was the impeachment forum led by Mike Malloy. Almost 1,000 passionate people spilled out of the theatre onto the streets.

Totoro was a wonderful cartoon. I discovered it in 1994 or 1995. I recently saw in on Cartoon Network and objected to the new voices. Not big on change, except for regime change in the US.
