Please see my post on Booman Tribune: http://www.boomantribune.com/s.....25818/5183 regarding the prospect of Libby (and Cheney) still being indicted for the underlying criminal disclosure of Plame’s identity, made all the more plausible by David Shuster’s report on tonight’s edition of “Hardball” regarding today’s courtroom proceedings in which he reports that the disclosure by Libby’s lawyers that he was warned not to disclose Plame’s identity brings the case much closer to a decision from prosecutors that (to quote Shuster): “maybe we should indict Scooter Libby for the actual leak as opposed to the perjury and obstruction of justice,†a prospect I first raised in my”Fitz’s Knuckle Ball” post, also on Booman Tribune, when the Libby indictment was first announced: http://www.boomantribune.com/s...../20254/872

Evidently there is a hearing today. Byron York over at the Corner is reporting on it, and the big news for him is that Team Libby has five people who will testify under oath that Joe Wilson told them his wife worked for the CIA.

jim preston @ 10:23 am (#76) - I think that it doesn’t make much sense to treat your potential customers like they were idiots. I especially think this when they’re making valid criticisms. Dana Milbank may have made some criticisms of the Bush Administration back then, but his paper was largely cheering him on. If he doesn’t want to be lumped in with the others, he can just say that he has his opinions, and the paper has its own.

I realize that Milbank’s tendency is to try to be funny - it’s his style. Unfortunately, when you’re being faced with serious and valid criticism, it’s sometimes better to forgo the punchline. This was one of those times.

Mary @ 10:50 am (#119) You’ve inspired me to give the WaPo another smack on its metaphorical head at their blog.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com.....nline.html

[just search for the string “Barnett” or “Baton Rouge”]

The WaPo has been using this as a sort of electronic blank wall that all the little delinquents can spray paint on, and we’ve been using it to critique them publicly in a place people might associate with the Washington Post.

Off topic Heads Up - Gay rights:

Could someone notify Pach or Jane about this?

Sigh - Iraqi police ‘killed 14-year-old boy for being homosexual’ I wish I could say i’m surprised by this but I’m amn’t. Homophobia and homophobic attacks are the norm in a civil war. I don’t know anything abut this boy or his family but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had turned to prostitution to support his family. As far as I know Doug Ireland is the only person reguarly highlighting this issue. There’s a day of action coming up. More at that link.

Two quick points - Pach the UK independent put a lot their stories behind a paywall after a few days but I have the text and URI saved to my database so if at the future point you need it let me know.

Re: The fatwa - a technical issue but important if you’re writing about this to get the technicalities right. Sistani didn’t actually say that that is the law. He’s saying that is what the law should be. Which for this poor kid was enough to be a sentence. The other thing is that in Iran there’s been a number of gays put to death. How the Iranians are justifying it are by charging them not with being gay per se but with either homosexual rape or with pedophile activities - the old smear in other words, and its wickedly effective in the Middle East. I wish I could say that I believe that whoever takes over in Iraq won’t institute the same policy but I don’t.

There are days when I just want to sit with my head in hands. Today’s one of ‘em.

The banshee screams for Goss-meat, but fear not… The chimporer will surely provide a procurator more vile and reprehensible than the former.

He is, after all, nothing if not predictable. The only wonder remains in how thoroughly he can defile himself. Each day brings a new low. There is no bottom.

Goss is a nasty character with a history of wet works activity in one of the Bush Crime Family’s personal fiefdoms, known as the State of Florida.
Hopefully, ‘the worm is turning’ (touch wood) and the legitimate CIA can begin a robust prosecution of the criminal interests that have infiltrated their midst on behalf of that family
