Oil company rapacity threatens the Republican majorities. Is it not in the companies’ interest to ratchet back the greed over the Summer, to protect the Party they have bought and paid for?

Re: comment 5,
every time I hear a republican say up or down vote, I get the feeling that I’m being jerked off.

Watching the Republicans, defend their Bosses
in the oil industry is like a Greek Tragedy.
They are so sold out, they look like cheap Ho’s
with cheap lipstick, smeared around their lying
lips. This isn’t democracy, this is a pathetic
oligarchy, made up of well paid, and seldom
laid traitors. These bastards have completely
sold out the american people, republican and
democrat alike. So the republican voters are
sold out the worse, because they are fool enough
to think these leeches will stand up to the oil
companies. Losers.

we will be going through a tough transition whether we want to or not, as oil supplies continue to run thin. Any idea what we are transitioning to? Alternative energy is a four letter word when it comes to budget spending.
Ideally we need to start transitioning to a different fuel source BEFORE we are forced to. If we wait to long and are forced to transition off oil…there won’t be an alternative fuel in place to transition towards.

It’s time we stop ALL taxpayer subsidies for oil. If the oil companies want to invest, fine. But we the people should look and move ahead. I’m willing to go through a touch transition period-aren’t you?Our reliance on oil is literally killing us.

There is only one problem to cutting back on all these oil subsidies- the true cost of oil will start to emerge. And we may want to run away in disgust.
If we stop giving the industry subsidies, then they’ll have less money to find more oil. Less money to find more oil = less chance of finding new oil = less oil = higher oil prices = higher gas prices.
Oil exploration projects are increasingly risky
because they search in non-conventional (deep water/deep-land/hard to get to) areas.

Sure oil co’s are making a killing, but they aren’t finding new oil- we use 4+ barrels for every barrel we find — how is that for sustainable??.

Lee Raymond making $680 million is way out of line, so it isn’t like the oil companies are hurting for $$. BUT - you can’t take away those subsidies without that money needing to be replaced. Oil company profits go directly to exploration and extraction is increasingly expensive.
Of course it all depends on the scale of things - if Exxon suddenly can’t pay out its $2/share earnings - no big deal. But when they stop spending $$ on exploration - if we haven’t found an alternate energy system - we’ll be dangling $$ in front of oil companies to feed our addiction.

Shill Brian Williams on Evening News talking about “Republican Plan to take away tax breaks for big oil”. No coverage of this couragous Dem. Why am I not surprised. Must be FDL addiction!
