Update at 4 p.m. ET: CNN’s John King just said Rove is still inside the courthouse. Reporters are outside, “staking out” the exits. King said neither Rove nor his lawyer are expected to speak to the media when they depart.

King also said that the lawyer, Luskin, released a statement saying Rove testified voluntarily and that Fitzgerald has not decided whether to bring additional charges in connection with the case.

Let me put it this way: I’ve become increasingly convinced that there are some people in DC who serve as sources for some of the stories unfriendly to the White House who, to put it generously, let wishful thoughts mix with their information.

I agree with you here 100%. But I’m not making that claim based on the reports from people who may have been snookered by sources only apparently unfriendly to the WH. As I’ve been saying for months, there is clear evidence someone tampered with evidence relating to Rove’s Cooper conversation (not just the email, but also the phone log). And that we know, from court filings, that Fitzgerald has gotten a new lead on what may be those emails. So I strongly suspect someone will go down because of the crime; it doesn’t have to be Karl. But there is too much evidence to believe it will just be dropped.

Besides, it’s Republican scandal 101. Things really start to get interesting when evidence of their deleted PROFs notes or tapes come forward. We’re at that stage now, I think.

But I also don’t see why you bring Rove before the GJ just to close the case.

Maybe you’re right. But I could imagine Fitzgerald both wanting to get Rove under oath to tell his part of the VNovak-Luskin-Rove story, and wanting to run things by the grand jury, if only out of respect for it as the final judge on what to do.
