(guest blog by Taylor Marsh)
They've got an idea and it's just got to work. There are six months to get it done, with no other way out. Because if George W. Bush loses Congress to the Democrats his presidency is beyond collapsed, it's finished, kaput, Karl bar the door. It will be hello subpoena power, good-bye presidential propaganda, because it just won't work anymore. There are five steps Bush and Bolten have decided will keep Congress, one more short-sighted than the next, but it doesn't matter. It's all about now.
First stop, President Bush is going to bail on immigration fairness, proving once and for all he's conservative with his compassion. It's bring home the base, baby, and let someone else worry about the people. Hispanics and Latinos will just have to understand that it's all about George W. Bush. After all, what good is a constituency if your whole Administration is spending their time testifying, while your own lawyer claims executive privilege for the last few years of an already interminably long presidency?
I'm going to start with the last item on the list TIME magazine is reporting, working backwards to my favorite. This first one is a hoot.
5 COURT THE PRESS.
Maybe this has to do with hiring Tony Snow to take McClellan's place. Either that or they're going to formally announce that Brit Hume is taking over First Lady Laura Bush's duties, because she's being sent out to campaign for Bush and Deadeye, since no one wants to see either of their faces.
4 RECLAIM SECURITY CREDIBILITY.
How's Bush going to pull this one off? The path is through Iran, because Iraq cannot be salvaged and Bush knows Democrats will not back nukes, so he's going to try the same bravado that had the CIA scurrying for the mattresses before Iraq. Bush and Bolten are betting that the American public still want to see a macho man facing down our enemies. We'll see your madman in Iran, and raise him one cowboy. But do the American people want Iran to look like Iraq?
3 BRAG MORE.
Two words for you: about what? The economy? If he does that Bush will sound like he's sending love letters to Exxon-Mobil's Mr. Raymond, which Deadeye already did.
2 MAKE WALL STREET HAPPY.
If they're unhappy, just imagine how the middle class feels. Besides, were you aware Wall Street was unhappy? See #3 above.
Now comes my favorite part of the Bush-Bolten plan. This one is priceless.
1 DEPLOY GUNS AND BADGES.
It's "mission accomplished" without the jet and the aircraft carrier, but keeping the cod piece in place, while standing along the Mexican-American border, with Bush flanked by new border agents, ATVs and lots of guns showing so people know the president means business at the border. It's the right-wing radio bone that is intended to bring the base home.
Next shot: Lou Dobbs praising the president for his sane approach to border security. Cue Tony Snow.

Fitz?
Fitz u are
Yes, please Fitz. Otherwise I am not at all confident that Democrats will take either house in the midterms. People are sick of the lies and incompetence of this administration, but even as a die-hard Dem I have not been overwhelmed by our so called leadership. I think most people prefer the devil they know to the one they don’t know.
On Fox marquee…. Iran will allow women into sports stadiums.
Where the hell is the outrage of feminism regarding Sharia?
shorter W.H. tactics: “more of the same”
Running scared they are circling the wagons….
Mid terms = supoena power
AND THAT IS WHAT THEY FEAR
Honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I mean, do these people know they’re actually supposed to be governing, and not just perpetually campaigning? This has been a presidency whose policies are nothing more than PR campaigns that are abandoned as soon as it’s time to do the hard work of implementing them. Bush loves the thrill of the chase, but cannot sustain any focus or concentration.
Guns and badges? Are you kidding me?
ignore the trolls shooting off their side-tracking efforts…
for trolls with martial-monickers: http://goarmy.com
They just want everyone to press the snooze button.
*ilson, thanks for the diet reminder. Hee.
They just want everyone to press the snooze button.
*ilson, thanks for the diet reminder. Hee.
Via – unless the devil they know is threatening to go to war with Iran and use nuclear weapons. That’s a devil I have to believe no one wants to know. Ever.
I share your concerns about the dearth of Democratic leadership. While I think it is important for people to know and understand what it is that we would do differently, I think it is also important for people to understand what lies ahead if we have two more years of unbridled Republican control of the legislative branch.
Yessir, that’s some fine thinking. Drive America’s fastest growing demographic (Hispanics) into the Democratic party forever. Heckuva job, Joshie!
That anti-immigration thing worked like a champ for California gov. Pete Wilson in the mid-90s. He passed some draconian immigration laws, that got him the 96 Republican nomination, and then he vaulted into the White House on the back of that soft-on-brown-people, one-term loser Bill Clinton…oh, wait. Oh, that was that other universe. Never mind. All Pete Wilson got for his trouble was solidifying California as a blue state. Good work.
It’s a stupid plan and it can’t work. it’s a diversion to make some kind of excuse for their stellar win in the electronic voting machines
this is it boys and girls, this is the time, we have got to make sure the election is a real on, that the votes count
that’s te only issue
Shooter–we’re all filled up on outrage.
Taylor-Great Post! The only possible way that the party in power can stay past November is to steal votes. The only way!
real feminists despise Geo. W Bush because harsh Sharia in “new” Iraq is driving women back into burkhas and veils.
when Bush takes Tancredo’s side, i hope the Dems are ready with a GOTV strategy in the Latino community. is that too much to ask? even if Bush doesn’t take Tancredo’s side, can’t the Dems leverage this issue to their advantage?
Shooter - is that name a reference to Bush, the “straight shooter” or Dick Cheney shooting his friend in the face?
1 DEPLOY GUNS AND BADGES.
“Badges!?! We dont need no stinkin’ badges!”
The real game plan is the same ol’ same thing - ballot initiatives regarding gay marriage (Frist may propose a constitutional ammendment) and abortion rights.
Why does George Bush hate Latinos?
I didn’t mean to distract. When I saw it just now it seemed so….medieval. But back on topic, you guys can yuck it up, but then again you’ve lost three elections in row. He who laughs last….

Taylor, you go Goddess! Great post to have with Monday coffee to start off the week. I’m back from my trip up north, caught up on threads and looking forward to seeing what’s in store for us this week.
Morning all. Thanks ccmask and shez. It should be a very interesting week.
Taylor:
I think you missed the portion of the plan where the traitors in the administration will constantly accuse anyone who disagrees with them of being a traitor. (The Dems will probably imitate Wimp Schumer and not respond.) The administration jingos will accuse anyone who doesn’t back Shrub on Irag and/or Iran of being unpatriotic. (The Dems will probably not respond.) The eavesdroppers in the administration will accuse anyone who does not support Shrub’s spying activities of being soft on terrorism. (The Dems will probably not respond.) The typical American will have to wake up and smell the coffee, because Shrub and his cronies are out to end our democracy as we know it, and the Dems are asleep at the switch.
Bombing Iran will be the ultimate detractor from Bush’s many tragic fiascos…Sy Hersh’s article revealed all. The poll numbers spur him on feeling he has nothing to lose. In his past drug use induced twisted brain, “the decider” feels he is the chosen one, and can do no wrong.. He feels that bombing Iran before the elections will deter impeachment moves. No, we have reaped the whirl wind having this dangerous buffoon leading our country. Evangelicals can now rejoice knowing that Armagadden will take care of gas prices.
OT&S but…
Anyone having problems getting page to reload?
RECLAIM SECURITY CREDIBILITY.
the release of the obl tape by fredo’s black ops crew is setting us up for another attack, which i suspect will happen this summer. the rising gas prices (nbc had a energy guy on last nite predicting $5/gal by summer) and hurricanes will sink his numbers even further; something drastic will have to occur to legitimize extreme domestic measures.
bkny-
If we have another attack, doesn’t that show us that the decider is weak on security?
Well, you will probably see bragging occur when the administration claims victory for pulling gas prices back a nickel (or some such thing).
Here is a useful map for my FDL friends:
http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx
Looks like the only “green” is in some red states. At first I thought maybe the “green” states had lower gas taxes, but with the exception of Wyoming, the taxes are higher than most other states.
http://www.gasbuddy.com/tax_info.aspx
Hmmm…

So true. It’s a pretty common patter with successful organizations (the RNC wrt elections, not the Bush administration wrt governing) faced with adversity to tweak or overdo the formula that worked in the past.
It takes a lot of learning to develop a pattern of behavior that’s effective, and there’s almost never enough time, energy and commitment to start anew and - even more - to unlearn the old pattern. That’s for when they’re out of power.
So it’ll be an M.S. (More of the Same) or a Ph.D. (Piled higher and Deeper).
Extreme domestics measures like this??
The U.S. Army issued Army Regulation 210-35, CIVILIAN INMATE LABOR PROGRAM on 14 January 2005
http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r210_35.pdf
We must convince this administration that bombing Iran will hurt Republican candidates more than it will help them.
I’d like to see a pollster ask: “If the United States bombs Iran are you more likely to vote Republican or Democratic?”
Can Karl get all of this done while under indictment? The “architect” may have to spend more of his time figuring out how to decorate his 5 x 10 room that building the new and improved swiftboat…the King George II. The bigger question is will the captain go down with his rickety old boat…right now he can’t seem to toss off enough ballast to keep that baby afloat.
read more observations here:
www.thoughttheater.com
I’d like to see a pollster ask:
Did you know that since Bush invaded Iraq the average cost of a gallon of gas in the U.S. has nearly doubled?
If we have another attack, doesn’t that show us that the decider is weak on security?
to most thinking people, yes. but the real point was it gives fredo the rationale to impose whatever control measures he wants and fortuitously, suspend elections to a ‘later’ date when the situation is under control.
Extreme domestics measures like this??
larry: oy. i hadn’t known about that one. there are sooooo many of these tucked away in amendments that no one knows about, except for the fascists who wrote them.
Taylor is right.
It is ALL about the midterm elections.
Good Morning Firepups,
Thank you Taylor for another dead on post.
I’m a little confused. I’m learning a lot about political gamesmanship from y’all - just who is this aimed at again ? - the 33% ? my understanding is that unless Bush shoots Falwell on the WH lawn, this 33% wont abandon him - ever, so I just don’t get it.
and yeah, it is easy to imagine Commander Codpiece riding some ATV around (gawd I hope he dumps it) personally, I’d throw in a firearm just to butch it up a little more
“Court the press.”
If they do any more of it, people will really enjoy the joke, and Bush ought to be very afraid of that.
I wish i had a good feeling about the elections, but i dont. Whatever slogan the dems choose matters not. We can do better…..duh. Had enough? dont see THAT motivating the masses. The proles are an easily managed horde, and this administration and thier partners in crime(media) are damn good at it.
I’m just glad Taylor knows the Dems won’t agree to an attack on Iran coz I’m not so sure - and I have yet to see any such reference except one second hand msm report that Reid said it was not an option. Can anyone point me to clear no nukes, no attack statements by Dems - I would love the citations!
Like I keep saying
Midterms=Supoena Power
Me to me is right. They couldn’t give a rip about the electorate anymore, because they can flip the votes at will.
OT but of interest from the Chicago Sun-Times (and my apologies if this has already been noted):
Dem asks Legislature to push Bush impeachment
April 24, 2006
BY TRACY SWARTZ Sun-Times Springfield Bureau
SPRINGFIELD — Leave it to the Democratic-controlled state Legislature to find an obscure way to attempt to oust President Bush.
State Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood) has sponsored a resolution calling on the General Assembly to submit charges to the U.S. House so its lawmakers could begin impeachment proceedings.
It would be the first state legislature to pass such a resolution, though the measure faces a dim future in a Republican-controlled Congress.
FWIW: out of 9 Congressional Districts, Indiana has 3 in play in 2006! All 3 are held by shaky Republicans and strong challengers are running hard. of the remaining 6 districts, 2 are solidly held by Democrats and 4 by Goopers (including Dan Burton and Mike Pence)…
You forgot their hole card — manufacture an international crisis sufficient to apply the Yoo doctrine and prevent, ignore or decertify the results of the election.
Don’t forget the ever popular last minute war or terror attack.
re #22 Meta
There’s nothing on the California Assembly website about this, nor is there anything on Koretz’s own page. Do you know of any background source(s)? I haven’t seen any news items about this in local papers…is this plan being kept quasi-secret until the appropriate time (whenever that might be)?
Not questioning your credibility, I’m just curious…
Good stuff, Taylor. I will post this in the office of the Democratic organization where I’ll be working every week day for the next 6 months.
5) COURT THE PRESS
…Which reminds me I need to write press releases today for Democratic events including some related to protection of Affirmative Action and a Hispanic outreach effort…
4) RECLAIM SECURITY CREDIBILITY
Yet another reminder to follow up on the Dubai Ports Deal. Where are we with this? Need to call Senators’ offices…
3) BRAG MORE
Heh. *Snort* Yeah. About those gas prices, yeah, and record profits at Exxon-Mobil. The stuff for the local Dem party website just writes itself these days.
2) MAKE WALL STREET HAPPY.
Hmm. Last I looked, there wasn’t anything that Wall Street was going to find constructive from the U.S. Comptroller General’s comments about the economy being far worse than billed. Only removing Republicans from the U.S. wallet will fix this mess.
1) DEPLOY GUNS AND BADGES
Won’t work in this state. The Republicans here think there are already too many cops on the street and that cutting cops will fix all our budget woes. HAH!! We’ll be encouraging members at the Fraternal Order of Police meeting this evening to sign up as precinct delegates; think we’ll have some good results from recruiting efforts.
Thanks for the To-Do List. And now off to the office to man the phones…
Siun,
lieberman has agreed to support Iran attacks
Isnt that all they think they need?
I wonder if the latest Bin Laden tape and generally bad media coverage of the Iran option will push BushCo. to call an audible and invade Sudan. It’s less risky and it ties into 9/11 in a way that Iran does not. And there has been bipartisan calls for intervening in a humanitarian disaster. It’s the TV show at home that Bush is counting on and maybe Sudan gets the job done with non of the pushback that an Iran attack would generate from the rest of the world.
From Mbendi.com: “Africa is a continent of 54 countries with an estimated mid-2000 population of 805 million people. The upstream oil industry is key to the continent of Africa, with proved reserves of 75.4 billion barrels (7% of the world’s total) and in 1998 it produced 7.8 million barrels per day (381 million tons/year) of over 40 types of crude oil. Five countries dominate Africa’s upstream oil production. Together they account for 85% of the continent’s oil production and are, in order of decreasing output, Nigeria, Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Angola. Other oil producing countries are Gabon, Congo, Cameroon, Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cote d’Ivoire. Exploration is taking place in a number of other countries that aim to increase their output or become first time producers. Included in this list are Chad, SUDAN, Namibia, South Africa and Madagascar while Mozambique and Tanzania are potential gas producers.”
i do think we all know thatwe’ve been down this road before — assuming that favorable polls now guarantee results later.
that’s the true menace here: raising expectations and assuming the favorable outcome.
we all also know that the gop will stop at nothing to game the system. they have done it before and will do so again. dems must take steps to assure that every dirty trick is anticipated and blocked, from rnc-backed jamming of phone lines to electronic vote totals that don’t track with exit polls. (why is it that after 2000 the ONLY thing the gop got behind in terms of election reform was the mandate to require electronic voting?)
these are good times to be aggressive democrats. i’m wondering why there isn’t more attention paid to the demvets who are trying to “take back the hill”? that is a winning theme — doesn’t have to be the only one, but it cuts to the heart of the gop weakness on iraq/security issues.
I thought “court the press” meant indict any reporter who prints unauthorized leaks of classified information (as opposed to Presidentially authorized leaks of classified information). Except I wonder if the WH has figured out how reporters will distinguish between the two, which will be difficult unless all authorized leaks come from Rove himself. I guess they will need to issue secret decoder rings.
Well, you will probably see bragging occur when the administration claims victory for pulling gas prices back a nickel (or some such thing).
BRING ‘EM ON! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Here’s the GOP plan modified for use by the Democrats:
Deploy Guns and Badges:
Whenever Bush starts to swagger, remind America that Bush’s military could not properly equip or arm the troops it deployed to Iraq. Remind America of the rise in terrorism since the Iraq war. Remind America that there are not nearly enough badges at our ports, train stations and borders, and remind them that the man in the codpiece couldn’t be bothered to use his Republican Congress to make the changes and improvements recommended by the 9/11 commission.
Make Wall Street Happy:
Yes, by all means, remind America how much richer the rich are these days. It will provide a stark contrast to the declining circumstances of the middle class.
Brag More:
Remind America that bragging rights have to be connected to actual accomplishments to have real value. Remind America about stagnant and falling wages, about rising prices, about how the pharmaceutical and energy industries are having their way with the American people. Remind them about pension and bankruptcy reform, which has added another layer of protection for credit card companies and banks, given many companies the right to reformulate pensions which has sent many into near poverty after a lifetime of hard work. Remind America about the tax breaks for oil companies that are making billions of dollars of profits while we agonize over how to make our stagnant wages cover rising prices.
Reclaim Security Credibility:
Remind America that Bush chose to listen only to the intelligence that supported his plan to go to war in Iraq. Remind America of the cost of this war, and what could have been done with the money. See 9/11 recommendations for ideas. Remind America of the many treaties and conventions which we have abandoned or rejected or withdrawn from.
Court the Press:
Push for more liberal viewpoints and voices, and more liberal female voices. Defend the right of the press to report on the government. Remind America that the government does not have the right to muzzle the press in order to conduct illegal activity in secret.
Let’s make it our plan to torpedo their plan.
its a desperate and pathetic plan but at least they have one.
“We can do better”–electrifying.
joejoejoe… re: africa & oil
You might find this interesting
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories.....3700.shtml
Wha-?
I imagine that, after some fierce focus-grouping, “We can do better” narrowly beat out “We could hardly do worse.”
how about:
“duck and cover”
the official slogan is : “Together, we can do better!”
“How could we be any crappier?”
I am of the school that thinks an actual successful terrorist attack in the US will not rally Americans to the president. It would cause the bottom to fall out a little more. “You mean 400 billion dollars and 2700 dead Americans and you still can’t keep the “homeland” safe?”
A foiled attack in which George W. Bush goes into a burning building to save a child. Now that is the ticket.
-GSD
“We can do butter”
-GSD
Or
“Dick and Cover-up”
-GSD
I imagine it took more fierce focus-grouping to decide whether or not to have the exclamation point. And the comma.
“Together, we can do better!”
“Together WE can do better.”
“Together we CAN do better!”
Ok, I’m going to class now.
joejoejoe # 51,
that would be Operation Restore Hope II ?
in some ways, it would actually be smart on their part which means it aint gonna happen
and I seem to recall there being a connection to our Saudi and other Arab friends to the carnage
btw, always glad to see a Gillliard regular here
cleter truly understands the details of contemporary politics!
South Orange, #48-It is under wraps at the moment, but there should be something soon. I got my info from a reliable insider. They are paving the way but are also now under surveillance for their actions, so my contact is now quite limited in communicating details.
I’m with GSD. Another attack provokes cries of “you asshole, I thought you were keeping us safe!”
He’s used his mulligan already.
Ok, now I’m really going to class.
“Together, we can endeavor to persevere!”

The regulation which you cited has been around for some years. Since it has been mentioned in FDL posts from time to time, I’ve read portions of it. Some weeks ago, I noticed that one of the Ferderal statutes mentioned in the regulation - 18 USC 4125 - was enacted in 1948. I have not read all 34 pages of the regulation to see what other Federal statutes are mentioned.
While I can understand the concern about this program, it appears that it has been in existence for at least 57 or 58 years.
If FDL had more resources, they could set up a real time monitoring system for the plan. Kind of like a butterfly-cam at the zoo where you can watch a pretty butterfly come out of the chryselis. Below we see the young “Reclaim Security Credibility” still staying close to its mom, Iraq, for protection, but finding its young legs, getting ready to jump and frolic in the “exotic faraway danger land” safari exhibit’s meadow:

… The State Department’s top arms control guy, Robert Joseph, says “We are very close to that point of no return” on Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Remember though, in last gig at the NSC, Bob Joseph was the guy charged with browbeating the CIA into letting the president use the Niger-uranium story in his 2003 state of the union address….
Just no reason to take anything Bob Joseph says even remotely seriously…
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.c.....008285.php
IMO…Bubbleboy is gonna plunge to 29% approval within 10 days…
Any thoughts on that?
Besides of course who that batshit crazy 29% would be?
And this idiot is not goint to make it easy to get through this. So, who says Dem’s don’t need at least a few well thought-out coherent positions on security to deal with challanges put out by Bushites and this nutcase?
Iran President: Israel Is a ‘Fake Regime’ By NASSER KARIMI, Associated Press Writer

Now theres someone with credibility
Regarding Equatorial Guinea. I seem to recall another despotic oil rich leader who used to boast about his strong showing in elections.
(Snip)
“My popularity at the moment is not decreasing. In a sense it’s actually growing,†he says. “It’s growing, because if I obtain 97 percent of the elections, it just shows there is no one left in the opposition.â€
Do I smell an Operation Equatorial Guinea Freedom somewhere in the future? Perhaps after Prez. Obiang decides to sack the dollar to trade in Euros?
-GSD
Larry,
there are still Hitler apologists kicking around, so 29% for a sitting president, hey.
as I recall “concentration camps for Communists” were authorized during the Cold War. Allegedly, Camp Atterbury 30 miles south of Indianapolis, which had been a P.O.W. camp during WW2, was one such “Commie Camp”. Nowadays, it is busy training troops for Iraq. Still, some of that Cold War incarceration legislation could be dusted off for “terrorists and sympathizers”
Larry # 57,
thank you for the link - I admit to ignorance about Equaorial Guinea’s oil - sure explains a lot about all the Condi love they’ve been getting
I’m with cleter and GSD on effect of another terrorist attack in US and Bushite attemps to capitalize on same. Dictionary says:
boomerang
Function: noun
Etymology: Dharuk (Australian aboriginal language of the Port Jackson area) bumariny
…
2 : an act or utterance that backfires on its originator
That plus the four magic words
“seventy dollar fill-up”
may overwhelm even any Diebold back-up plans.
GSD….Do you smell an Operation Equatorial Guinea Freedom somewhere in the future? Perhaps after Prez. Obiang decides to sack the dollar to trade in Euros?
Don’t ya just love the smell of petrodollar freedoom in the morning?
That plus the four magic words
“seventy dollar fill-upâ€
I just heard about people actually paying $70 for a fill-up on C.N.N. — the future is now…
Ironically, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a Farsi anagram for:
Chimpy McFlightsuit.
Look it up.
Larry, we have settled on the batshit nuts support for Bush at 27%. That was the percent of votes that Alan Keyes recieved in his Senate election against Barack Obama in Illinois.
So short of George W. Bush showing up on video tape in drag, performing an abortion with Hillary Clinton and howling out Muslim prayers and cursing Jesus, he will keep that 27%.
-GSD
cbl 79
condi-leaker… I mean condi-licker has been all over that thug
Just an aside, isn’t it nice that “Diebold” goes so well with the admin’s Orwellian vocabulary?
siun, per your request above, here’s a great quote from Harry Reid: “U.S. has no military option in Iran.”
“Reid blasts Bush during Reno visit”
Great post Taylor, thank you.
OT: If BuschCo goes nuclear in Iran, how many years would it be before Rummy can go in to get the gas? What would that do to oil prices?
Also, I see Iran is nudging Israel again:
New Headline from WaPo: Iran President: Israel is a fake regime”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....00435.html
GSD….27% ?
Does that include the French ?
Also agree with other commenters that Bush on border with guns and badges could do a CA GOP for national party (ie, damage it severely). Anyone know of an analysis of what CA GOP did to itself with its anti-immigration anti-Hispanic campaign? I think it buried the CA GOP as an effective statewide party. They can’t win anything statewide with candidates that have anything to do with their platform and philosophy. Arnold is so far left of the party, he is not really a contemporary CA gooper anymore. They decided to put up with him at their last state party convention because without him, they are nothing. They got in Secty of State by appointment I think. Their immigration policy killed them.
Meant to spell “chrysalis” and “challenges” above.
"Also, I see Iran is nudging Israel again:
New Headline from WaPo: Iran President: Israel is a fake regimeâ€Or maybe Israel and the U.S. government is nudging Iran with American newspaper propaganda?
GSD,
Thanks for those images about Bush on TV..
I howled
Needed a good laugh this am
Didn’t read all the posts, but what this means is that WE REALLY HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR SKULLDUGGERY IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS THAT WILL DECIDE EVERYTHING. I’m volunteering at my local polling place which has put out a call for workers on election day and I’m making sure that I have some sort of evidence that I actually voted. Plus, I’ll wait in line to answer any surveys taken outside my polling place if anybody is there. Can anybody think of anything else?
It is just amazing that the entire 70’s oil crisis was a prep for such a time to return and there was not a single lesson learned.
We know what Santayana said about not learning history. As we know full well, our President thinks Santayana was a Latino rock guitarist from the 60’s who just revived his career again.
Look at these mooks:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4820466.stm
As to support for Bush. Just a few weeks ago these folks showed up for a tribute to the Butcher of the Balkans. Slobodan Milosevic–you know the man that was toppled by Bill Clinton so that rape camps were closed, mass graves were stopped and lots of people were then allowed to vote. Of course the rapes and the mass killings were going on in real time.
If only those Bosnians had used the purple finger schtick Clinton might have gotten some mileage out of those elections.
-GSD
Does this mean Lou Dobbs becomes Bush’s man?
wesgpc…89
I think I got that saved looking 4 it now
the best thing progressives can do on Election Day is to work in campaigns of progressive candidates in whatever capacity the campaign decides is needed
A couple of people have mentioned the dearth of Democratic leadership. But the truth is, we have the leaders. Kerry spoke at Faneuil Hall in Boston just last week. Murtha did an interview with a Pittsburg paper. Harry Reid made a statement. Howard Dean’s appeared on television, etc. etc. But it’s too fragmented to get the nation’s attention.
What I’d like to see is for all of them to get together and call a press conference. Let the country see a group of straight-talking, articulate Democrats actually take a stand for the truth. Demand that the White House tell the American people the truth about why we went to war in Iraq and demand that the Senate Intelligence Committee complete phase II of its investigation as promised two yerars ago.
They need to say it over and over: “The Democratic Party stands for telling the American people the truth. They deserve the truth and they’re not getting it.”
I think the collective voices of Murtha, Kerry, Reid, Kennedy, Feingold, plus Patrick Murphy and some of the other DemVets, maybe Wesley Clark, would be very powerful. And, given last night’s story on CBS and the number of US casualties in Iraq this month alone (I think it’s 61 as of today), plus Bubble Boy’s I’m-the-Decider-moment last week, now’s the time to do it.
Make it a rebuttal to the Republican’s pathetic 5-point campaign strategy: “Make Wall Street happy?” How about telling the American people the truth?”
I’d sure like to know what some of you regular (and irregular) fdl-ers think.
Look, I’m in socal and I don’t want that wall. Looks like I’m going to have lie down in front of it. This is not good :p

From GET YOUR WAR ON
In response to a quote from General Peter Pace, who said in a televised interview that things in Iraq were going very, very well………..

Goddamn! The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs must have access to some cutting-edge, turbo charged super-soldier-ass rose-colored glasses that make my crappy rose-colored glasses look like kmart bifocals dipped in raspberry juice……..

THEY WILL STEAL THESE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS. MAKE SURE YOU GET COUNTS AT THE PRECINCT LEVEL SO THAT IF THEY STEAL IT AT THE COUNTY LEVEL YOU HAVE SOME PROOF. THEN FOLLOW THE BALLOTS/WHATEVER BACK TO THE MAIN TABULATING OFFICES.
WE ALSO NEED TO GET EXIT POLLING DATA DURING THE DAY BEFORE IT GETS “SMOOTHED” OVER.
if Bush and Tancredo ever get to build that wall against Mexico, perhaps they will bring in as consultants some older and experienced East German architects ?
A thwarted terror attack has all of the upside, and none of the downside, of an actual terror attack, especially if a 24-watching nation can be persuaded that the information that made the thwarting possible was obtained by either illegal torture or illegal wiretaps — this would immunize these excesses from critisism.
FDLers need more fiber
Ok I will stop
Larry #95: if you have something on implosion of CA GOP and their immigration policy, please post link or describe. I will check back tonight to see if you found anything.
#97: something like that would be nice, huh?
*ilson46201 - My newspaperman dad always told me I couldn’t believe everything I read. That’s OK, no problem being discerning. Now, however, we’re in a no-mans land where everything is suspect and discernment is not the tool we need. We need bullsh*t detecting glasses.
i do enjoy how the rovians thought they had their wedge issue ‘06 special in immigration and it’s come back to bite them.
the fact remains, though, that it’s less about drawing swing voters than it is about mobilizing the base. the gop has had phenomenal success in surpassing the dems’ more traditional strength in that regard. what the dems have to do — and i think dean is right on target here — is relentlessly insure a gotv drive to retrieve at least the house.
oh yeah, it’d be great if non-extremist republicans decided to sit out their loval elections. but you can’t rely on that.

“Irregular” as in occasional commenters like myself. I read fdl daily but don’t always join the conversation.
L.A. Times Editorial Calls for Cheney’s Ouster
I had missed this.
suggested Democratic talking point: if George Bush is so concerned about American security how come Natalie’s killer in Aruba hasn’t been captured yet? oh yeah, and about that Osama bin Laden dude …
Josh Bolten’s five point plan to repoliticize Bush’s governing strategy and recreate the facade that has made him popular for a few brief moments over the last six years is a joke.
It’s pretty disheartening that the Chief of Staff of a failing administration is focused on poll numbers and not actually figuring out how to govern the US competently.
From Raw Story:
Condi sees which way the wind is blowing. She is going to end up leaving America on a late night flight sometime just before the collapse of the Bush administration. Maybe she can pick up Jack Straw on the way to Equatorial Guinea and she can let him use her bed again while she naps on the floor.
She will spend her retirement in a nice villa in Equatorial Guinea. Sort of an American version of Idi Amin.

PS. That 27% in Illinois did include the Polish, don’t know about the French. I’m from NH and the Frenchies here(me included) righted our wrongs and were the only state in 2004 to flip from Red to Blue.
Larry, Glad you got a laugh this AM.
A THWARTED terror attack where G.W. Bush personally beat, smeared with feces and wielded the glow-stick that sodomized the gay, Muslim convert from San Francisco into revealing the location of the suitcase nuke that was deactivated to save–Salt Lake City. That would be a winning move on the part of the Rove Industrial Light and Magic Factory.

I just smile everytime Big Dick uses that, “I was drafted line.” This from a man who chose himself as the best candidate for the job. And also from a man who had “other priorities” during Vietnam.
Cheney is the scum of the earth.
