I have been reading this blog for some time now, and I thoroughly enjoy the analysis by these talented writers. With that said, could someone please tell me why the first post has to be someone involving Fitzgerald?

It’s Blog Grafitti - a blog tag. I guess some find it clever.

Levin was frequently referred to on Limbaugh in the early days as “F. Lee Levin”. I was monitoring pigman in abject horror at the dirty disinformation operation the Gopwas setting up to subvert the Clinton Presidency and steal the country. Close listening discerned that Levin was IM’ing Rush constantly while on the air, almost like a cue card. I believe it was Limbaugh who got him onto select stations. he has had several heart attacks while foaming at the mouth, once I’m told while screaming in a woman’s face in public.. No one in 15 years or rrtalk comes close to his nastiness, just a snarling yapping vicious dog. WMAL in DC got rid of him at least once due to listener horror but he brags that Pigman and Slanthead get him back on.

You couldn’t be more right about rr radio being the weapon used to steal the country. I tried to warn Dems in Calif about this in the late 80’s and was shrugged off, even looked down upon like I was discussing K’Mart. Well, now it’s Walmart, and even with FOB it may take Air America 15 years to catch up. Too late.

Along the way, I had some great calls to Limbaugh, once dubbing him the “Jabba the Hut of American politics” which he seemed to like and tout until someone told him who that was. Since it was clear he wouldn’t hear facts, I jabbed and landed some goodies: “You are the very caricature of everything you represent: a fat belching pig” (after which he lost 100 pounds and stopped belching on the air). Or describing the GOP circus, where every day the wagon is rolled out to center ring, the door comes down, an elephant is trundled down the ramp, stands on the large ball, tail goes up, and he turns slow circles while showering the audience with diahrhea. I corrected many of his lies while being filibustered and cut off frequently (which gave away their game, at least to me). My last call was written up by Joe Conason in Salon: reading his 4F form on the air and promising him and the GOP chickenhawks that they were about to face a real War Hero in 2004. I often wonder if Karl Rove was listening to that show. By then I’d had enough. I listen to Air America now. Kudos to Sam and Jeanine for the perfect merger of the blogs with radio.

jane, taylor,
the attack on democracy as we knew it was twofold: the death of the fairness doctrine, of course, (along with the subsequent reductions of restrictions on how many media outlets could be owned by a single corporation)and the supreme court’s ruling in buckley v. valeo about campaign financing that found corporations were “people” with the right to political speech.

TBogg posted Levin’s article this morning on his site, I suppose for his and our amusement. So I read it. I decided to email Levin. Which, for more than any other reason, was also for my amusement. This is what I sent:

Mark Levin:

About Mary McCarthy, your article on April 22? You were kidding? Right? I mean, you had to have been. It was just so, well, dopey, if you weren’t kidding. So I figured that you must have been. Right?

Re: Taylor Marsh #30

Guess you’ve got a point. Hatred doesn’t have to be sustained forever, only through November, then they get a chance to rest up and do it again two years from now. And while individuals like my friend may burn out on the right wing movement, the system still makes fresh ones every year.

Uggh.

Still I think it is an advantage of our side that we are motivated by anger more than hatred. The way I see it, anger is caused by intolerable circumstances, it forces you to change those circumstances and then it dissipates. But hatred, it just eats your soul and it never goes away, regardless of circumstances. It weakens you. It’s our general disinterest in hatred that will enable us to fight this fight for as long as we have to.

Our brains are bigger, this we’ve found
We brought the caveman to the subway

Tribalism failed in Rwanda too, but that didn’t keep the radio personalities from pushing for genocide.

Lies on radio, in particular, are dangerous. War of the Worlds revealed that it can be a dangerous place for fiction too.

Great work as always, Taylor. In re the patriotic leak of the US torture camps, every CIA or other intelligence operative is watching with vital interest what happens to Mary McCarthy now, and the rest of us should be deeply interested too. The Plame Leak did two things, remember: it fogged up clearly seeing the pack of lies that put us into Iraq and to do this it was willing to sell out a high ranking intelligence officer and her networks – but it also told everyone in the CIA and their spouses to drink the koolade or else watch while their careers are terminated and their networks (in Le Carre’s bloodless phrase) are rolled up by the opposition.
