The authoritarian cultists of the NRO seem a bit down these days, reports TBogg:
Now each of the Corner Kids has their own personal reason for being disappointed with the direction the Republican Party has taken following in lockstep behind its putative leader. In Jonah and the Pod’s case the failure of George Bush might call attention to the fact that having famous parents doesn’t necessarily qualify you for a job and their wingnut welfare might dry up like Kate O’Beirne’s hoo-hah. Ramesh has a book coming out and a dispirited conservative is going to be in no mood to read about baby-killing liberals when they could just as easily buy a Kate Hudson DVD to cheer themselves up (although Kate Hudson might again remind people about that famous parent thing above, so the DVD purchase, which is bad for Ramesh, is worse for Jonah/JPod) In K-Lo’s case, George Bush isn’t Mitt Romney and George is just ruining it for Mitt who is all dreamy and stuff and could be the Republican JFK except he’s not Catholic but could be converted by the love of a good woman…possibly one of his wives. Maybe even K-Lo.
Meanwhile, while they are worrying about the elephant party, the rest of us are worying about the other elephant in the room: our upcoming nuclear confrontation with Iran. Since all that George and Dick and Rummy know is war and arrogance and power and they have been spectacularly wrong about everything that they have ever done or touched or thought about, are these the people that we want with their finger on the button?
I gotcher gloom and doom right here…
I wish it were enough that they were unhappy but it’s not. We’ve got 33 more months of this clown. I read the new Rolling Stone cover story on the plane today and I’m really thrilled that it’s going to be in 7-11s across the country and 12 year-olds will be reading about how Bush is the worst president in history. It’s an awfully powerful statement, an even more powerful graphic. But the damage this dangerous idiot could do with the time he has left, given no congressional oversight (yeah I’m looking at you, Lincoln Chafee) is incalculable.
On the bright side: well, they are miserable.

Woo hooooo I got it!
It’s just no fun being satisfied that the Bush house of cards is falling down if we’re all still stuck living in the house.
Fitz to everybody.
I am watching Tim Russert about Republican corruption @ CNBC, worthwhile.
Portuguese lessons anyone, CCN “We were warned” also wothwhile for 2009.

Although I’m every bit as motivated to get these jackasses out of power and into jail, I’m finding that I’m not as angry day to day. There are more news stories that make me smile compared to two years ago. Anyone else experiencing the same?
Oh, and I forgot…
33% is just unfuckingbelievably awesome!!!!!!

33 months,that is depressing.If anyone needs a laugh,try this;

Well, let’s not start sucking each other’s dicks just yet.
33 Months is a long fucking time.
Tomorrow morning…bird-blogging at least, I wish Redd were here to do that.
as much as it may hurt, there is something in these 3 dollar gas prices – and the threat of it going up, up, up – that may keep us from attacking Iran… I know! No logic to it, but it will sink the poll numbers and someone somewhere who has a hand in these things may decide that 7 buck a gallon gas may not be the best thing for the country…
My money is on a JAR bottom of 23% for Bush. Anyone started a pool yet?
I’m thinking another ‘major event’ will NOT firm up his ‘Deciderness’ but PLUNGE him out of office (think JAR around 10).
What is more likely is continued sweeps of illegals working. Internet porn and kiddie porn busts thru Gonzo.
AND a preemtive capture of a terrorist cell/network/operation BEFORE it succeeds (allegedly). Might get him back in the 40’s. That will be the (Red) October surprise that saves red seats to keep prying Dem eyes out of heading Congressional investigations.
So…let’s get rid of the miserable little fuckwad.
Impeach his ass.
Yeah, yeah…listen we take back the House impeach McChimpy…Fitz gits Doin’ Time or Sleepy as some are calling him now…and…Nancy Pelosi is the first woman President of the United States.
It can happen. We must do our part.
Take Back the House!
The Rolling Stone article is the real deal – love how he qualifies every point with either history or stats (wow, facts, who knew)
after not reading it for years – I can’t believe some of the actual reporting being published by Wenner – Iraq, that Taibi piece on Abramoff was incredible, and now a Princeton History Prof. taking on Chimpy.
as for the kids on The Corner – have been trolling them/tweaking them, telling them they only have 39 more years to gnash their teeth in the wilderness – howz ’bout a golden calf ?
a belated Welcome Home Jane, must have been a fun pooch reunion – hope your local weather allows for a trip to Poodle Beach
Fitz, please announce new indictments. Leakers, keep on leakin’.
If we can’t officially remove Bush, maybe we can neuter him.
It would also be nice if the magazine could be one small part of reversing the rampant anti-intellectualism/pro-idiotism that’s been killing this country.

I think he bottoms out at 16% JAR. Nixon went from the 50s at the start of the Congressional investigation, down to about 24. Bush’s hearings haven’t even started yet. He’s not close to the Nixonian JAR meltdown. I think actual hearings chop his JAR in half.
What’s interesting is that he is only about 4 or 5 points above the point where (in Nixon’s case) leaders of Nixon’s own party begged him to resign.

Monica again threatens Australia, now Category 5
April 22, 2006 – 11:42 AM
Double crikey! After striking Queensland a few days ago, Monica is now over the Gulf of Carpentaria and is much worse than before! The latest advisory from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center lists Monica as a category 5 cyclone with sustained wind of 125 knots (144 mph) and a central pressure of 916 mb. This puts Monica at the same intensity level observed in a strong category 4 hurricane like Charley, and stronger than Katrina and Rita were at landfall.

OK, in the spirit of de-lurking revelation that has pervaded FDL for the past couple of days, would you please tell me why washingtonpost.com (Wapoo) editor Jim Brady is called Church Lady? I’m familiar with the old Dana Carvey Saturday Night Live (SNL) skits, as well as with the Shocked. I’ll take 27.
I also predict he’ll be nowhere to be seen at the 2008 convention. He’ll be like Nixon in 76. The GOP will pretend he doesn’t exist.
Bush’s JAR will soon descend into the 20’s. Gonna take Dem re-taking of Congress for any upshot, though, absent some Fitzian smoking gun.
Nice to feel the dark side’s anguish, but it doesn’t get us out of the hole. People haven’t owned up to the fact that this administration is going to cost the United States big time, on several axes — economic, diplomatic, military and moral. This isn’t one of your standard adolescent mistakes that paper over in short time. What we have all been party or witness to is a mistake of monumental proportions, and not in any real sense, forgiveable. The forgivers are foreigners, by the way, and they are in no mood to cut us any slack.
Solution, if anyh. Deliver the bastards up to a war crimes tribunal. At least if we do it, we prove our good faith. Failing that, no one3 has any good reason to trust us.

Ms. Hamsher’s article, combined with the previous article by Ms. Spaulding SEEM to indicate to me that the repubs have a general ill feeling about this WH. Just a couple of issues seem to get them going: gas prices and immigration issues. Otherwise, they all just seem to be generally fed up.
If I’m reading these tea leaves correctly, I’ll say this is VERY BAD for Bush. It’s one thing if your party is at loggerheads with you on an issue or two. Any president can patch that up. But when your own party just is “tired” of you….NOT good for the president.
Perhaps the Dems really need to crank up the linkage between any repub political candidate and Bush for this Nov. Interesting.
Ghostman
Well. Here’s my garbage-in, garbage-out math for how low the preznit’s JAR can and probably will go.
Evangelicals are 7% of the voting population. Charismatics/Fundies comprise some 22%. Personally I think he’s already lost half the Evangelicals.. say he loses half of the remaining again.. Then assume he has nearly all of the charismatics still under his girth.. and he manages somehow to lose a third of them in the coming months, when they finally decide that a sinner claiming to act in God’s name is just a sinner. That’s just about 17%. Saw he has 3% beyond that (Opus Deiers and hardcore bigots). That’s 20%. I say he can’t go lower than 20%>

Or else they will infect a person with the real thing. Total black ops in either case. Just in time to make people panic before the elections. YO PEOPLE: 36,000 people died of the regular flu last year, it was not necessary to (1) panic (2) cancel elections for those 36,000 people.

I’m with blub – read up on the stats for the Obama election. All the other complicating factors like race were out of play in that election. Their core vote was around 17%. Yeah I know he seems to be another appeaser but that’s not the point here. There’s a lot of splittable-off voters and then the 17% well 17% is pretty damned small.
Take care of yourself, BobbyG
Blank Kludge- I did not add my thoughts that continued on from that tin foil hat landing. I thought, well, what would that mean? And, my conclusions were not happy ones. I did not get quite as far in my thinking as you have, but I agree that it would not be a good thing. But it certainly would qualify as an “October Surprise”.

neurophius, about “Church Lady” Brady.
When Abramoff was front page Debbie Howell wrote that Abramoff gave to Dems too. The WaPoo’s blog exploded in part, because Jane led us over there. Occasionally some commenters resorted to obsenities to try in some small way to illustrate the real obscenity of Debbie’s error. Brady, who is a former sportswriter, used the occasional “deleted expletive,” to taint all the comments that flowed in. BTW, Debbie, according to peole who know her swears like a sailor. Others may have a different take, but that’s my recall.
This last part has absolutely nothing to do with his nickname, but the little weasel pisses me off, so I thought I would include it here.
Then Brady invited Jane to fly to Washington to a panel about ethics in Journalism/blogging or some other
bullshitthing. When Jane accepted his invitation, imo he got scared and changed the format to an online chat, because he knew Janewould wipe the floor with his sorry assis a lot quicker than he is. Then he proceeded to punk Jane in the online chat, by preventing her responses from appearing in the WaPoo’s record. TI second bobbyg’s comment anent keeping the standard up.
egregious- so glad to see you here, after what must have been a long “smiling while crying” kinda day. Hugs.
As for the avian flu thing, that could happen, though I don’t see how it would benefit Bush. Am I missing something?
I’ll mail you during the week oilfield guy but (teaser to everyone else here) I think the kitten peeping round the dooor is the best one :-)
wow.. we’re like a gaggle of church ladies now! Well, I don’t mind cleaning up the language, but my gooper friend wants to know if you allow “raghead” here.
I hope the Dems realize the letting this guy twitch for 2 more years shouldn’t be an option.. way too much time for him to catch OBL or for OBL to attack us again. Or for him to orchestrate an attact or start a war. They need to get rid of him (leaving Cheney as president) as soon as they can retake congress, and secure, with, his demise, the effective end of the Republican party. Two years of Cheney (assuming he survives impeachment himself) should allow us to dance on the grave of the rethugs for the next half century.
neurophius, sorry, I routinely respond to comments before reading them. You knew as much as I did the etymology. Nicknames imo usually have several different etymologies, so by asking, we all find out.

valley girl, the point of the avian flu scenario is to make it happen in an area where disrupting the vote would be advantageous to the GOP… not that I believe it will happen.
Check this out from tomorrow’s WaPo article by Smith and Linzer focused mostly on the woman fired from the CIA for apparently leaking about the secret prisons:
More recently, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Cheney, has become embroiled in controversy over his disclosure to reporters in 2003 of information from a previously classified intelligence report about Iraq. Libby said the disclosure was authorized by Cheney and Bush, but asked to be identified as a “former Hill staffer” when the reporters described their source.
My first reaction was that that last sentence might be a tendentious reading of Fitzgerald’s response to Libby’s third motion to compel discovery, and that it’s not entirely clear that Libby wanted to be identified as a “former Hill staffer” with regard to the information from the NIE. That question is intriguing. But then I was struck by the fact that the article says that reporters – in the plural – were asked by Libby to be so identified as their source. Now, maybe this is just sloppy on Smith and Linzer’s part. But maybe not. There are at least three Post reporters who spoke with Libby in the relevant period – Woodward, Pincus, and Kessler. We also know that Libby spoke with Woodward about the NIE in late June 2003. Furthermore, I note that Pincus is one of the many contributors to tomorrow’s article – and Pincus appears to have a habit of dropping new information from his side into articles like this by others (an example was the revelation, late in the game last fall, that his source on Plame was not just an administration official but a White House official).
So did Libby ask not just Judith Miller but a Post reporter (or some other reporter they have learned of, I suppose) to be identified as a “former Hill staffer” when he leaked information about Wilson and/or the NIE to them in June-July 2003? Or is tomorrow’s Post article just sloppy?

Some find raghead offensive. I used to have a hairlipped dog. He went “Mark Mark Mark.”
Are you offended Marky?
VG – yeah. Thing is, if you’re thinkin’ on it, and I’ve been cogitatin’ same, who else (sane or othewise)?
Anyway, just after Katrina I engaged wingnut element saying Bush would never see 40 JAR again and suffered the usual slings and arrows of attacks on my (unknown to them, deceased) parents, etc.
Rather than what folks are guesstimating for 30 days, I’m saying in 45 days (just afte Mem Day, when vaca driving season will (traditionally) kick petrol up say 10 percent (so, that will mean maybe $3.23/gal) he’ll be near 25 JAR first week in June.

Jeff, I am sorry I cannot add anything helpful to your question. One of the real pleasures for me is reading your correspondence with emptywheel over at tnh. Often it is in the correspondence that I catch on a little more to the issues you discuss. I hope you can make it to Vegas for the panel.
Coz- wella- as to whudi think? Think I wished I’d bought in Jan 06. But, I didn’t take the time (yet) to check out what this co. is about. Energy related? One of yours? Just a quick glance at the chart says “too late”. Am I wrong? Only thing I did good in recent memory was to buy a few shares of IMAX at 5+.
I find “raghead” extremely offensive. For the record and as is known to many here when my wife died my son (who also comments here) was “taken on” by a Shia lady who treated him like a son. Lots of love always and discipline when he needed it. Also for the record she had good reason to hate Christians but didn’t. She’ll be the guest of honour at his wedding in a few months. I’ll add that anyone who has ever lived in a “raghead” society will be able to tell you that that story is by no means atypical.
Here’s my prediction for June though:
West Texas Intermediate at $80
Job Approval Rating at 25%
For October:
WTI at $100
JAR at 20%
Blank Kludge- not clear from your comment- are you saying that you had also considered the very same possibility as an “October Surprise”? I should also add that from the get go of the tin foil hat landing, also included was “by the NeoCons”.
Vg,
This led me to the chart (whoa!) earlier today, I’m seriously thinking about getting some…

WTI at $100 — JAR at 20%
If WTI hits $100 (wavin’ at it on the way up, if he attacks Iran) his JAR will be 15% — or maybe 10%.

I did consider becoming a vampire so that at least my schedule would be natural but unfortunately your current vice-president has given vampires a bad name.

[After Leopold’s sources said Fitzgerald had, David Schuster of MSNBC indicated he hadn’t, and no one had managed to spot him or anyone from his office at the courthouse, apparently.] But on Steve Clemons’s blog on Thursday or Friday, Jason posted that Samborn confirmed for him that Fitzgerald had in fact personally appeared in front of the grand jury on Wednesday morning and then returned to Chicago the same day.
My wild guess as to the timing is that any new indictments will either happen next week, or else not for some weeks after next week (barring plea bargain developments).
Just kidding about “raghead”..sorry if i offended anyone. but you know that some LGFers would be interested in a site without a filter..
John Casper – Thanks, and back atchya with regard to profiting from the back-and-forth at tnh. I don’t expect that anyone will be able to address that question, since I don’t think there’s anything out there to indicate an answer. I raised the question more as a way of being explicit about an apparent – and, if real, important – implication of the WaPo report, which is worth pursuing and worth trying to get an answer out of the Post writers on. It would be fairly significant news if Libby asked not just Miller but another reporter to misidentify him when reporting what he said about the NIE, and possibly Wilson. I just can’t tell whether the Post is actually breaking such news, or just being sloppy.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a sitting President belittled on a mainstream magazine cover quite like this. Even at the height of the impeachment, Clinton never got hit quite this hard.
As far as King George’s poll number, I believe there will have to be another “incident” to bring his numbers down under 30. Another Katrina event would do it. A really big expose of the fraud in Katrina — not just an article here and there but full report of all the failures just might do it.
What is so sad for me though, is that I do not trust Bush voters to turn against him if he should bomb Iran.
I don’t think the bird flu is going to work for them – to the best of my knowledge there is limited potential for human-to-human transmission – I think it has something to do with the site of the infection being deeper in the lungs, so not much transmission by sprayed droplets, like with other kinds of flu. Kind of inconvenient in an epidemic.
course, now I expect all the nursey types to straighten me out.
Why is everybody saying 33 more months (or 1000 days) of Bush? Has everyone given up on impeachment, conviction and removal from office?
We win back the Senate and House, and/or the Repugs remaining therein get some semblance of integrity (whether out of electoral fear, poll-reading, sudden bouts of recovered humanity): Demos get some backbone (courtesy of you and me and, oh, about 200 million or so others); Cheney’s gone, and somehow we get lucky on the VP replacement — and there you go.
It could happen, couldn’t it now? Why not dare to hold the vision?
Coz- thanks for the link to the article. Bookmarked it to read anon.
VG,
I friend of mine tipped me to CELG around 1998. I thought it was “too high” at about $9 a share ; ) I passed and it ran to over $150, and then tanked. lol I just took another look, JEEZE!

jlr: That’s what I’ve heard also. Hard to pass around, hard to catch unless you keep birds in your kitchen or someplace equally close.
VG,
Re: “I friend of mine tipped me to CELG around 1998. I thought it was “too high†at about $9 a share ; ) I passed and it ran to over $150″
WTF? I could have sworn it went to $150+. I must be getting senile.

At 22%, he can call for whatever legislation he wants, but Congress ain’t gonna answer the phone.
Oregon Dave – I like your vision thoughts.
OT but doesn’t anyone remember or know how many days ole distressed Tricky Dick had left in his second term before he threw in the towel and resigned?
egregious, I’m late to the thread, but before the forces that torment old evil parallel get me, let me say congrats too. I’ll betcha a swell time was had by all, and I’ll bet you’re thinking now about how cute she was at eight, and how she hated her braces, etc., etc. Good on ya, Mom, you pulled it off…. Here’s to ya!
Nixon quit in August of 74. His term expired Jan. of 77.
Step 1: Impeach
Step 2: Convict
Step 3: Impale.
Step 4: KLM flight to The Hague.
The only step that may restore the US in the eyes of the world.
The question mark at the end of the “The Worst President in History?” is wrong. It should be an exclamation point. Period!
Nine, maybe ten months to throw the bum out?
But NO!
I was walking along the road with two friends. The sun was setting.
I felt a breath of melancholy – Suddenly the sky turned blood-red as the atmosphere tipped over into runaway greenhouse,I stopped, and leaned against the railing, deathly tired – looking out across the flaming clouds that hung like blood and a sword over the blue-black fjord and town.
My friends walked on – I stood there, trembling with fear.
And I sensed a great, infinite scream pass through nature.
But Bush now recalls that his true mission is to save the world for Jesus Christ. And no one on the scene is more dedicated and qualified to carry out that mission. The near-term problem is these pending elections. Would the military (and the now-packed supreme court) go along? Maybe it’s time to replace that secular careerist, Rumsfeld.
“Step 1: Impeach”
Followed by his flight into permanent exile, to evade arrest and prosecution here.. Maybe Hu will give him political asylum… or Halliburton well, in a country they’ll buy him
Love this site! I have been listening to “What’s going on” by both Marvin Gaye and Joe Cocker (did not think anyone could surely do justice to Marvin’s, but got to give kudos to Joe). In my appreciation of street musicians and progressive folks, I thought, it would really be something, if we could get small gatherings in different cities, at an approximate time, and just jam, sing, yell, Marvin’s song: … War is not the Answer …! Etc., Etc. Peaceful but meaningful! Wouldn’t that be something around Lafayette Park (is that still public). Very talented musicians this side too!
33%
33 months left
Maybe he will continue to lose 1% each month until even Mommy Babs doesn’t support him at the end.
I pray that he is forced out before then.
