I thought your letter was excellent,Leslie. I had a reply post at a Recall Bush type Yahoo group of my Fitz and Hinchey post from a retired military person who wrote 2 short and FReeper type scary messages that the Generals should be forced back into the military and court martialed. Strange because I don’t think I mentioned the Generals on that site but the messages in response to the short message I left about Fitz were hate Democrats and the Generals and it didn’t seem like this person who signed his name and officer’s rank knew who Fitz was from his posts. Still trying to figure it out and should find the Yahoo group and copy the his short message into the FDL Swiftboating of the Generals.

There are so many Yahoo groups for impeaching bush and I belong to a small fraction of them but still is alot of groups and visit only sporatically.

Taylor,

Thanks for this Blog entry. Defending these brave men who have spoken out against Rummy’s incompetence and the Repug Swift Boating has to be a priority.

twc (#12) made an excellent point that should be cited as often as possible. As we fight the Rethug Slander, we must and I can’t stress this enough–remind folks that Baptise gave up a 3rd Star to speak out. That sacrifice has to be honored. It not only impacts his standing amongst his peers, but his Pension as well. I know that none of those who attack these generals would do as much for thier country.

When you hear about retired military officers refusing promotions and electing retirement understand that those decisions could and may have an affect on their retirement income from the military.

Yes, it would. Those generals were in service long enough to still fall under the old pension system of receiving half their active duty pay.

By refusing promotion and opting to retire, their retirement pay will reflect the lower rank. Their stepping forward will cost them emotionally and financially.

Ann in AZ, Apple Canyon2 and jcricket,
Many thanks for your generous words…

kitt, Your responses to shooter242 were brilliant.

I’d have answered earlier, but I had to quite hurriedly take my daughter to the ER this morning. Then, spend the remainder of the day happily putting together the wedding invitations for my son’s upcoming wedding.
I’ve been busy being a supermom today. Just got back to read this thread.
So many wonderful posts here. Taylor, you are simply great. I love reading your writing - here and at your own site.

This is what it says about the photo at Truth or fiction.com:

Regarding John Kerry’s picture appearing ina museum in Vietnam, that story is true.
There is a facility in Ho Chi Minh City that is called “The Vietnamese Communist War Remnants Museum.” A Conservative group called Vietnam Vets for Truth sent a photographer to the museum In June, 2004 to document the presence of the picture and to confirm that it was still on display.

Kerry critics say it shows that Kerry is being honored by the Communist Vietnamese. Some reports say the picture is in a portion of the museum that honors whose who helped the communists achieve victory in Vietnam.

Kerry supporters say the picture is not from Kerry’s anti-war years but shows him as a member of a delegation of Americans who were in Vietnam because of the issue of American prisoners of war and missing in action.
http://www.truthorfiction.com/.....ryviet.htm

The Swift Boat Liars, of which Jerome Corsi, the co-author of the article in question have been so caught in so many lies that I am quite reasonably prone to believe the latter explanation of the photo, and not the explanation of the Swift Boat Liars.

If you, Shooter242, are prone and anxious even, to believe Jerome Corsi after all he has lied to the world about, well then, we aren’t living on the same planet.

“Probably? Probably doesn’t cut it. I took a quick look and the photoshop perp still hasn’t been identified. Whoever the photographer is on the museum site, he took great pains to put the exhibit in context. Unless you have something better than “probablyâ€, I’m going to believe it. The problem you and Kerry have, is that at the end of the day, there is no discounting Kerry gave the infamous speech trashing the troops.”
–Shooter242

You just closed your casket, Shooter, with those remarks. Kerry didn’t make a speech “trashing the troops”. Kerry made a speech that included quotes and examples of what troops had told him. Your talking points are now as out in the open as they will ever need to be. No “probably” about it, or you.

I looked at the link you posted, Shooter242. The infamous John Corsi of the Swift Boat Liars, and probably the same people who posted a FAKE picture of Kerry and Fonda at a protest gathering, are responsible for the article and the photos at the link. Do I understand you correctly that you expect us to believe that article and those photographs?

Looked up Victor Davis Hanson’s bio. Not the least surprised to find no mention of military service. (He was born in 1953, which would have made him draftable in 1971, just as we were in the process of withdrawing from Vietnam. Probably had a deferment anyway.)

So it would seem that, among Busheviks, the having the gall to accuse others of cowardice and lack of patriotism is inversely proportional to the possibility of ever having worn a uniform.
