Most people only know Giuliani as “America’s Mayor” on 9/11. He performed pretty well then, certainly much better than Bush did on that same day. But I also remember Rudy Giuliani jumping for joy at the acquittal of the NY police officers who gunned down Amadou Diallo on his doorstep. Rudy’s no moderate, no matter how many gay friends he has.

Yeah, McCain’s pretty worthless, and I’m glad I’m not the only one calling him a suckup. Like I said in comments over at the Washington Monthly yesterday,

he endorsed Bush in June 2004, at which time he turned into a total Bush suck-up, and has subsequently turned into a broad-spectrum GOP suckup, sucking up to both Bush’s Big Business backers and the ‘Christian’ Right crowd.

His approach has been to do as much of this as possible under the radar, so he could preserve the full value of his straight-talk brand, and until the Falwell thing, it seemed to be working.

Unlike Guiliani, though, McCain’s got a good chance to be the 2008 GOP nominee; I’d say it’s either him or George Allen. But they’e both sleazeballs.

Remember ‘Damien’ from that horror show with Greg Peck and Lee Remick? I swear that r. reed was the prototype for that character,, even if the show was made way before reed was even born.

RE: Roberton’s mines..(#7)

Somewhere in my memory,I recall those mines being part of a bigger scam.

First,Charles Taylor, the bloodthirsty maniac in charge of Liberia at the time,is a good buddy of Pat’s.Taylor was up to his eyeballs in the mining bidness with Robertson.

Second,Operation Blessing,a charity of Robertson’s meant to be for humanitarian aid,was also used to pay to get equipment to the mines. The aid supplies were offloaded, the equipment loaded up(under cover of darkness and payoffs?Probably, but that’s my own wild speculation)and under the auspices of Operation Blessing flown to the mines.

There are several articles online about these two maniacs being in cahoots over this mining thing,it’s hard to pick just one.Makes you wonder who else these so called men of faith have done business with over the years.I wish the IRS would go after these megachurch McWorship guys in a big way, betcha they’d find tons of fraud and tax evasion.

As for Reed,I live in GA,and loathe that little weasel. He and Newtie took an already corrupt state government and milked the corruption for all it’s worth.Bastards.

The upside to all this ass kissing and incestuous political manuvering is that it’s easy to see who is so far gone they can’t be redeemed. Those are the people who need to be drummed out of politics first.Ridiculed, scorned and shamed, along with being publicly confronted with their crimes and hypocrisy wherever they go,and that’s the nicest thing I can think of that they deserve.

Call me slow, but where’s the news via a vis McCain? He’s been sucking up to the WH thugs for a few years now, which always made me suspect he made some kind of back room deal.
About Guiliani, isn’t this the best kind of news the Ds could get? He’s struggling to denounce all the things that made him a republican that new yorkers could like, and has picked the wrong horse to boot. Looking like Fitzmas to me…

anyone catch mccain on jay leno this week. it was just a few nights ago. rather weird to see someone like him on the show - which i almost never watch but “stayed tuned” cause i wanted to hear what he had to say. don’t want to mis-state, but my general recollection is that he started with some hard love (yes, there’ve been lots of errors, corruption, etc.) and finished up with something rah rah on the rethugs warmaking. i’d be interested to read a transcript if anyone has a suggestion of where to find. thx!

This week was the 100th anniversary of the Great San Francisco earthquake. There has been a lot of press about this locally. I heard an interview yesterday with author Simon Winchester. He has a new book out about the earthquake. He was claiming that the Christian Right in America got started in 1906 in Southern California.

A preacher at a small church predicted that God would be sending a message soon. Two days later, the great earthquake happened. He claimed it was punishment for all the evil things going on in San Francisco. After that, people flocked to his church.

100 years later, same old story… 9/11, Katrina. What a vengeful God they have.

Regarding this thread, I find it fascinating (but not too surprising) that there are nothing but criminals and heartless maniacs available to the goopers for 08.

Raygun’s takin’ a dirt nap, and junior’s had two terms. Looks like they’re fresh out of Howdy Doodies.
