The thing that most pains me in all this is the use of the word “antisemite.” Pipes already had to settle one lawsuit, by Douglas Card, for throwing the word around about him irresponsibly.

I haven’t been rude to anyone here in stating my opinion and I haven’t defended Bush as anyone who’s read my posts can see.

But you, in your intellectual dishonesty, obviously ignore that it’s not about “getting some dates wrong.” Cole attributed the 9/11 attack to an event that hadn’t even happened. That’s not about an incorrect date, that’s about incredibly poor work that shows how anxious he was to somehow drag Israel into 9/11.

And I notice how you don’t even mention Cole’s excellent comprehension of the 9/11 report. I mean it takes real talent to completely fabricate its conclusions. Or was that just about a faulty date, too, Rog?

As for Bush lying to Congress, does that, in your mind, justify Cole or anyone else lying?

And Rog… about the Mommy Dearest comment… thanks for showing this board what kind of person you really are.

And by the way, it’s spelled ‘Mommie’ Dearest. Not Mommy. Guess you and Juan both like to get things wrong.

And not for nothing, but his expertise on the subject matter comes into serious question as well when he’s making some of his ridiculous claims.

What really gets my goat about Cole is how much people rely on him. I guess it’s an echo chamber for them. But if they have to step out of that chamber and get into a serious debate, they are dead as ducks. And why?

Because if one wants to use Cole’s work in a serious debate, you can’t. You’ll be undercut immediately by many of his inane pronouncements. You’ll say, “Juan Cole said this.” They’ll say “But Juan Cole also said this,” and then they’ll list a litany of ridiculous comments and that’s it. You’re intellectually finished because the guy you’re quoting is so easily shot down by his own words and his made up facts.

And that’s the real problem. He’s so easily dismissed by anyone with a cursory knowledge of those facts. And his work proves that point over and over.

Bottom line, if people are unwilling to call him on his intellectual dishonesty then I’m sorry, they are intellectually dishonest as well.
