Awwww…. the Jews “stold” all your family had? Awwww… what a shame.

Not.

If racists like you run in the family, it was probably a good thing.

As for you, Harvey, learn to spell “Israeli” and “political” and perhaps people will take you more seriously.

why do you care what a professor sys about Israel. I’m a jew and I don’t care if one of my professors down grade a certain Israly politacal party. I wouldn’t give a dime to Israel. I live in this country and we need the money more. I dare one of you to call me antisemtic because of my thoughts. I love AMERICA not Israel.

Who can forget Hitch calling Professor Cole “the egregious Professor Cole” who “claims to speak Farsi” during his debate with George Galloway? Has Hitch ever apologized or tried to justify this nonsense? Or was he too drunk to remember having said it?

Sorry for the double posting but for the record it seems to be more appropriate here.
From Informed Comment 4-20-06 http://www.juancole.com/
“I kept meaning to blog the nice award ceremony held April 12 in New York at Hunter College, at which the 2005 James Aronson Awards for Social Justice Journalism were handed out.â€

James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism 2005
Blogging at its Best: Juan Cole, Informed Comment.
‘ Blogging represents a significant new form of communication–sometimes merely scurrilous, sometimes a vital extension of public debate–and of journalism. “Informed Comment,” Cole’s Iraq War web log, shows the form reaching its highest social value. Cole, a professor of history at the University of Michigan, brings his scholarly expertise to the analysis of daily events. He speaks Arabic, Persian and Urdu and has lived for long periods in various places in the Middle East. As a blogger, he becomes a sort of hybrid scholar/journalist as he gathers links to US and international news, then draws from his professorial expertise to provide running commentary on the insurgency, the American military response, and nuances of Middle Eastern politics and religion. His easy, humorous style recalls I. F. Stone’s Vietnam-era newsletters and makes his dispatches an indispensable tool for understanding the social justice implications of this complex conflict. ‘
Congratulations and many thanks Professor Cole.

A Golden Oldie: Character Assassination
See his comment on the anti-Semite charge by Daniel Pipes and the real targets of Pipes and Co., liberal and leftist Jews.

From December 2004:
“Yes, I’m aware that Daniel Pipes of the so-called Middle East Forum sent some puppy out to slime me over at David Horowitz’s Frontpagerag. So this is the way it goes with the Likudniks. First they harass you and try to have you spied on. Then they threaten, bully and try to intimidate you. And if that fails and you show some spine, then they simply lie about you. (In this case the lies are produced by quoting half a passage, or denuding it of its context, or adopting a tone of pained indignation when quoting a perfectly obvious observation).â€
The thing that most pains me in all this is the use of the word “antisemite.” Pipes already had to settle one lawsuit, by Douglas Card, for throwing the word around about him irresponsibly.

Roger…

I haven’t been rude to anyone here in stating my opinion and I haven’t defended Bush as anyone who’s read my posts can see.

But you, in your intellectual dishonesty, obviously ignore that it’s not about “getting some dates wrong.” Cole attributed the 9/11 attack to an event that hadn’t even happened. That’s not about an incorrect date, that’s about incredibly poor work that shows how anxious he was to somehow drag Israel into 9/11.

And I notice how you don’t even mention Cole’s excellent comprehension of the 9/11 report. I mean it takes real talent to completely fabricate its conclusions. Or was that just about a faulty date, too, Rog?

As for Bush lying to Congress, does that, in your mind, justify Cole or anyone else lying?

And Rog… about the Mommy Dearest comment… thanks for showing this board what kind of person you really are.

And by the way, it’s spelled ‘Mommie’ Dearest. Not Mommy. Guess you and Juan both like to get things wrong.

I can’t get excited about his getting some dates wrong on a blog. If that indicates lack of intellectual integrity, what about conscious lies to Congress that lead to an unnecessary war? Going bananas over faulty dates makes you sound like Mommy Dearest discovering a coathanger.

Thanks, jdfeminist. You’re absolutely right, intellectual integrity is extremely important. And it’s something Cole lacks.

And not for nothing, but his expertise on the subject matter comes into serious question as well when he’s making some of his ridiculous claims.

What really gets my goat about Cole is how much people rely on him. I guess it’s an echo chamber for them. But if they have to step out of that chamber and get into a serious debate, they are dead as ducks. And why?

Because if one wants to use Cole’s work in a serious debate, you can’t. You’ll be undercut immediately by many of his inane pronouncements. You’ll say, “Juan Cole said this.” They’ll say “But Juan Cole also said this,” and then they’ll list a litany of ridiculous comments and that’s it. You’re intellectually finished because the guy you’re quoting is so easily shot down by his own words and his made up facts.

And that’s the real problem. He’s so easily dismissed by anyone with a cursory knowledge of those facts. And his work proves that point over and over.

Bottom line, if people are unwilling to call him on his intellectual dishonesty then I’m sorry, they are intellectually dishonest as well.
