The picture this morning is of French grunts swimming off the coast of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. But that’s not all.
They’re among the dozens of species that are being hit hard by global warming. One study says that if we don’t do something to stop it, we will have "mass extinctions by 2050."
It seems one of the most important things we can do, which is to tend to the earth and the planet on which we all preside, isn’t happening. It hasn’t been for years. But the changes occurring now are so massive, one wonders if they’ll ever be reversed. We’ve not got much time left to act. What we do about this global contagion will say what kind of species we are at our heart and soul level.
Of course, if it were up to Rush Limbaugh and the Republicans, as long as there were farmed species and corporations who can supply them, all would be right with the world.
That’s simply not good enough for me. How about you?
"While polar bears and caribou are being harmed, they are not as vulnerable as the species that live in these hot spots because of [the hot spot species'] very narrow geographic ranges."
Other experts warn that it’s not just the hot spots featured in the new study that face an imminent extinction risk.
"Many species are indeed struggling to hold on in locations all over the globe, not just in hot spots," said biologist Terry Root, of Stanford University’s Center for Environmental Science and Policy, who was not involved in the study.
"This is not some activity that will only be occurring ‘overseas.’ The likely extirpations and extinctions will also be occurring within a couple hundred miles of all of our back yards."

Fitz
Atrios is going to be on CNN:
On their Reliable Sources show with Howie Kurtz which starts at 10AM Eastern. My segment comes on around half past the hour, give or take. I’m debating Jonah Goldberg of the National Review Online. Topics: immigration; Iraq biolab lies; and plans to invade/nuke Iran. I think it went pretty well. Check it out.
Set your tivos.
Go John!
Go Russ!
Go Howard!
Rah, rah rah!
(Just another member of the un-angry and totally prozacked left. Take that, Wapo.)
I think that’s John Aravosis from AmericaBlog that will be on Reliable Sources.
Lovely photo, Taylor. Of course the grunts are endangered. Everything beautiful and fine gets destroyed by this administration, if someone can make money by doing it.
It’s a sad situation we’re in re: the environment, that’s for sure.
NYTimes editorial “A Bad Leak”
When I read about this it thought it so improbable that I had to look for myself. There it is in black and white. Amazing.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04…..6sun1.html
as christians celebrate the springtime rising of their sun god, they don’t give a fig about our planet
I saw Howard Dean on Timmy or Tweety last week and he started to say “bush lied” but quickly changed it to “mislead” us into the Iraq War.
Why is it hardwired into the Dems that they can’t say he lied? Do only Dems like Clinton lie? Is that it?
Do leaders only lie about sex? Not war?
Bush said the Brits have learned that Iraq sought uranium because HE KNEW it was false and his own intel told him so. He couldn’t say “we have learned” or “the CIA has learned” because they were saying it wasn’t true.
This was all based on the Niger documents which were laughably bad forgeries probably cooked up by Micheal Ledeen and Karl Rove. This thing also has AIPAC’s (Larry Franklin) hands all over it which is again why we went to war.
See this: http://colorado.indymedia.org/…../index.php
But, whatever, Bush is a liar and it is time for all Dems to SAY SO:
George W. Bush IS a Liar
By Robert Parry
April 14, 2006
The White House is taking umbrage over new press reports that George W. Bush misled the American people on a key justification for invading Iraq. But Bush’s latest excuse – that he was just an unwitting conveyor of bad information, not a willful purveyor of lies – has been stretched thin by overuse.
Nevertheless, White House spokesman Scott McClellan lashed out at a Washington Post report that in May 2003, Bush described two Iraqi trailers as mobile biological weapons labs although two days earlier a Pentagon field investigation had debunked those suspicions in a report to Washington.
“The lead in the Washington Post left the impression for the reader that the President was saying something he knew at the time not to be true,†McClellan said on April 12, 2006. “That is absolutely false and it is irresponsible, and I don’t know how the Washington Post can defend something so irresponsible.â€
But the truth is that Bush has been caught, again and again, relying on lies and distortions to confuse the American people about the Iraq War. Sometimes, he can blame U.S. intelligence agencies for the false information, but other times, he simply lies about facts that he personally knows.
For instance, just weeks after Bush made his false statement about the bio-labs, he also began rewriting the history of the Iraq War to make his invasion seem more reasonable.
On July 14, 2003, Bush claimed that Saddam Hussein had barred United Nations weapons inspectors from Iraq when, in fact, they were admitted in November 2002 and given free rein to search suspected Iraqi weapons sites. It was Bush who forced the U.N. inspectors to leave in March 2003 so the invasion could proceed.

And, by the way, according to Fox this a.m., it is not “Easter.”
It is “Resurrection Day.”
So Happy “Resurrection Day” all Christian FDLers. Hope your children and grandchildren enjoy those “Resurrection Eggs” and “Resurrection Bunnies.”
Re: #7, that’s not quite true, undercoverdick.
The “Left Behind” fundies don’t give a fig b/c they figure by the time it happens they’ll be lifted off. But they’re not real christians, anyway. Like the R’s that we lump together, even though they’re also becoming an endangered species on this planet, we must differentiate between the genuine, and sick twisted psychos masquerading under a brand name that does not really apply.
FDL is getting a lot of attention and it pays to take care not to play into the stereotypes the wingnuts have of progressives, b/c shit like this will be endlessly quoted out of context. It just isn’t smart to dismiss out of hand all christians, (or muslims, jews, buddhists, or wiccans) b/c then we become like Them.
That’s if, in fact, one of us actually made this comment.
Good morning peeps and happy Easter.
Taylor, you’re choice of topics is uncanny, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate subject on this day. You rock.
Im off to watch Fitz squirm on This Week with Shorty…
Peace.
Indiana is expected to undergo yet another day of tornado terror caused by global warming. The oil company folk around Bush try to downplay any action on mitigating the damages. The weather is going to get worse and quite expensive (as in New Orleans).
My home is my castle but the oil company barbarians are assaulting it with hailstorms, whirlwinds and thunderstorms. I’m on high ground – personally I have no worries about flooding. People near the ocean sure as hell do…
NOW features the South Dakota abortion abomination… Good morning all and thanks yet again, Taylor and it is a terrific day to bring up this beautiful planet and the wanton and willful destruction of it… this admin is delivering the coup de grace to the fragile environment. Resurrection vs destruction. Brilliant.
*ilson-
Is tornado season normally this early, or is it unusual?
Huh? Is this article old or something? Meet the Press was all clergy today.
the timing and frequency of tornados has shot up in the last 3 years. Climatologists say warmer temperatures increase the likelihood of storms – including hurricanes. It used to be that bad weather was simply a fact of life – now it seems that it is man-made by covetous corporate conglomerates and their toadies…
There is science behind the idea that warmer oceans will spawn more intense hurricanes. But is there specific science linking warming ocean temps or other globabl warming concequences to more torndadoes or more intense thunderstorm lines?
the CORRECT lineup for 4/16/06 is http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..00910.html

And yea, I too am a bit miffed about the morning lineup…
well, after Katrina all kinds of dumbos were trotted out on the teevee to say this is just a normal cycle in the course of the planet’s history…..yeah, riiight.
You do the Hokey-Pokey, And you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about!
Also – I don’t think its Atrios on Reliable Sources – I think it’s John Avarosis (AmericaBlog). Is that correct.
Fox news is adding a little mother nature to their reporting to make Iraq more tranquil

Ever notice that the guest journos on Chris Matthews’ show never look at the camera, but just gaze lovingly at Chris?
Well, Tweety’s head is so big, you actually have to choose one part of it to focus on.
Happy pagan ritual con cottontail and candy. Comment # 61 last thread has been frozen in moderation for over two hours now. I linked to a couple of church lady’s and the Brady Ranch. WTF?

TONY Blair has told George Bush that Britain cannot offer military support to any strike on Iran, regardless of whether the move wins the backing of the international community, government sources claimed yesterday.

my above comment was meant as troll-bait
President Clusterfuck arose this morning- hoping to follow in the footsteps of his favorite philosopher and rise from the dead himself.
Things are starting to pile up for the liar in chief. More bad news daily. He’s out giving stupid ass speeches and everyone wonders why since they do no good. Pundits say that if he didn’t- the bat shit crazy goopers would say that he’s not fighting back- so he has to prove to them that he’s “doin his best”.
I’m not sure that explanation holds water. I think GW Clusterfuck is incapable of sitting in the Oval Office and working. He HAS to get onboard Air Force One daily go for a ridey. Why? Cause if he sits around the White House, he gets edgy and fucks more things up- downs a fifth of vodka- and things REALLY get ugly- so it’s better for all concerned to have him committed to taking rideys.
Bush is at Camp David this weekend. Isn’t that where they strategize about war?
I just watched mpower1952 kick the Doughy Pantload’s ass on Unreliable Sources.
Jonah tried to say that Bush wasn’t lying about the trailers in Iraq when he claimed they were for making bioweapons. mpower shoved it right down his throat.
Good job, mpower!
cathy—No- that’s where they invent lies about war. GW Clusterfuck doesn’t believe in planning or strategy- except for political strategy.
Wow! Just saw George Allen on Face the Nation. He’s quite the fascst.
I think he just uttered a sentence that contained the phrases “detention centers” and “secure our freedoms.”
WTF does “secure our freedoms” mean, anyhow?
WRT to Rumsfeld, he said the general’s opinions don’t really matter–”what’s important is the opinion of the commander-in-chief.”
Bill Richardson is sure a lot more articulate.
Bwahahaha!
*ilson #30
Aztlan? Why do you hate the Treaty of Guadlupe-Hidalgo? Why do you hate Zachary Taylor? Why do you hate our freedoms? Watch what you say, or you may end up in one of President Allen’s “Secure Our Freedoms Dentention Centers.”
But two hours, *ilson? A computer can calculate the rosary in a fraction of a second. What mumbo jumbo does the automagic moderator recite that takes longer than two hours to get a comment outta purgatory?
on this holy day: may i offer a prayer for all of the firepups . . .
OH JESUS: PROTECT US FROM YOUR FOLLOWERS!!!!
bill kristol just said ‘george bush cannot leave office with iran’ in custody of nukes.
the cavalier tone to the discussion of the u.s. unilaterally dropping nukes by these gasbags is such a commentary on how debased what passes for intellectual thought has become in this country.
Good Morning and Happy Easter Firepups!
just got back from my idea of a sunrise service – out on the reservoir
yeah and Taylor Marsh thank you, you rock!
the doughy one actually tried to make a distinction btw lying and ‘not knowing’ Howie was even gonna let him go there by starting to talk about some of the ‘vagaries’ and John of course pointed out that as late as 5 mos. later Darth was still spewing as fact
Thought something was going to happen to GW Clusterfuck on the fifteenth. Foiled again?

Oh, yeah, the Gadsden Purchase. Why do you hate the Gadsden Purchase? And James K. Polk?
I heart Michael Lerner of Tikkun…what a voice of reason and hope.
cathy –
Chimpy is at Camp David bec Cindy Sheehan is at Crawford (14 arrested fri.)
as a patriotic American like Abraham Lincoln I have long despised Zachary Taylor and James Polk. And as a Hoosier don’t get me started on William Henry Harrison — pfui!
Press the Meat – this guy Neuhaus isn’t the pig associated with that Augustine crap is he ?!?!?
cleter – George Allen has recommended fascist general Boykin to head up special ops – just what we need eh?
Taylor – extra thank you for raising global warming. Last week at a conference for environmentalists, investment professionals and corporate leaders (www.ceres.org)I had a chance to hear Al Gore speak on global warming. He was introduced by Jeff Stoll (ebay founder) who has produced a documentary on Gore and Global Warming – An Inconvenient Truth – http://www.climatecrisis.net/. The film is due for release on May 26 and was quite successful at Sundance. (Stoll’s Participant Productions is also responsible for Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, etc) The presentation the film is based on can be viewed here thanks to the Stanford Net Impact group: http://www.climatecrisis.net/
Americablog’s John Avoris held his own (and his nose?) on kurtz’s reliable sources but how a GoOPer shill like the doughy pantload can be considered reliable is howie’s call and man did the fat, pasty white dunce from the corner drop a load when he said that he “knows” that Merka has war plans vs. Canada. Who the fcuk needs an identity card if the good ole USofA is just gonna blows us the fcuk up eh? Bonus for Canadians is we know that jonah is too fcuking scared to fight so our donut shops are safe.
*ilson
William Henry Harrison–man, I bet he is so glad GWB came along and tipped him out of the Top Five Worst Presidents list. I can just picture him in President’s Hell, telling Nixon, “Hah! Number Six! In your face, Nixon! Screw you!”
the last war plans for attack on Canada have not been updated since the 1930s. Interestingly enough, one problem cited by the authors of that document was the anticipated opposition in the USA by “anarchists, communists and pacifists” …
JONAH. Thou can’st not now cram thy doughy pantload back into the belly of Lucia…Leviathan. Thy ding-dongs hath been too many.
Taylor, amen to you this morning. I’ve really enjoyed your guest posts and look forward to more. I’m drawn to the link between Dominionism, the Rapture peeps, end-time theology and our current political (and environmental) predicaments. ARe you planning a post on this?
Happy Easter, everyone. Went to see V on Friday and honestly, I feel much better now.
do you think that’s really dick cheney? he’s has so many heart attacks & operations that i wonder if he isn’t a composite of other folks’ stem cells, which would belie what our chief freak of religiosity says he belives
cbl– I just yelled at Neuhaus really loudly and scared our cat. What a pompous #@!. Death penalty vs abortion– the Sister did great and said something like, we have to get them all born so we can kill them later! Yes, he is one and the same. ugh. Supercilious and fugly man.
*ilson
The war plans for Canada were updated in the 80s, at least. There was some fear among Reagan’s DoD of Quebec separatism, and that a separate Quebec would be sort of socialist. There was an article in Harper’s, (I think), in the 1990s about urban warfare units stationed in NY whose only real purpose could be taking Ottawa.
that was not really clear– Neuhaus said abortion and the death penalty were very different– she disagreed very vociferously with the aforementioned paraphrase as a comeback.
Ah, bringing potential dissidents in line.
Will be shown the instruments of the inquisition or just the party snaps with Jeff Gannon’s professional colleagues?
AdNag writes as if retired officers are objecting, not to incompetence, but to a management style: Gee golly, quoth Rummy, we DO talk to them.
“The group that received the message was made up of both staunch Bush administration supporters and some who have been critical of administration policies. They are brought in periodically to consult with Pentagon officials and were notified on Friday that Mr. Rumsfeld wanted to meet with them this Tuesday.”
this got lost from above post.
cleter, your comment about the Reagan DoD being paranoid about the Bolsheviques establising the Peuples Socialiste Soviet Republique de Quebec makes sense. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
I recently saw a ocean scientist who was very passionate about his job. He expressed concern for coral reefs diminishing becaused they housed many fish species and he’s convinced that cures for cancer will be found there in the future, if there’s any there left. Brought a tear to my eye. Or maybe he was a cancer scientist, I can’t remember, I only caught a little of the end of the show, which ended on that bummer note.
the WaPoo did have a great article about the Canada Invasion Plans http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..01412.html
if you are more into action rather talk there’s a website to assist in making it happen! http://invadecanada.us/
Now: who’s got the scoop on the Canadian War Plans to invade the U.S.A. ?
*ilson #63
Man, I miss the days when the DoD would meticulously plan for silly crap they would not actually do (like invade Canada), as opposed to doing silly crap that they don’t actually plan (like Iraq)…
I wonder if they had plans for dealing with a Canadian insurgency? Hmm.
Conny Chung on Maury and Connie does a weekly little funny bit where she satirizes Martha Stewart’s Apprentice thank you notes … this week she wrote:
Dear Prime Minister Cheney – Why don’t you change your career to baseball? It was so courageous of you to throw out the first pitch. I don’t know anything about careers that involve a uniform but judging by the crowd’s reaction, I gather you did very well. In fact, I bet you could even win this year’s Cy Hersh award!
(paraphrased broadly but the Sy Hersh award line had me cheering – this show is oddly worth watching and Connie Chung is my new hero!)
Now my # 61 last thread is gone completely. Why?
#68 behold the power of moderators!
Now it’s been resurrected. Is this some kind of Easter thing?
oops – I posted the wrong link – Al Gore’s Global Warming presentation which forms the basis of the upcoming film, An Inconvenient Truth – can be found here:
http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/ne…..gore.shtml
This is very worth watching – and I’m sure the film will be even better.
OT and ROTFLMAO: Tell it to our leaders!!!!!!!
Business for Diplomatic Action (BDA), a non-profit group funded by big American companies, has also met Karen Hughes, the head of public diplomacy at the State Department, to discuss issuing the guide with every new US passport. The goal is to create an army of civilian ambassadors.
The guide offers a series of “simple suggestions” under the slogan, “Help your country while you travel for your company”. The advice targets a series of common American traits and includes:
• Think as big as you like but talk and act smaller. (In many countries, any form of boasting is considered very rude. Talking about wealth, power or status – corporate or personal – can create resentment.)
• Listen at least as much as you talk. (By all means, talk about America and your life in our country. But also ask people you’re visiting about themselves and their way of life.)
• Save the lectures for your kids. (Whatever your subject of discussion, let it be a discussion not a lecture. Justified or not, the US is seen as imposing its will on the world.)
• Think a little locally. (Try to find a few topics that are important in the local popular culture. Remember, most people in the world have little or no interest in the World Series or the Super Bowl. What we call “soccer” is football everywhere else. And it’s the most popular sport on the planet.)
• Slow down. (We talk fast, eat fast, move fast, live fast. Many cultures do not.)
• Speak lower and slower. (A loud voice is often perceived as bragging. A fast talker can be seen as aggressive and threatening.)
• Your religion is your religion and not necessarily theirs. (Religion is usually considered deeply personal, not a subject for public discussions.)
• If you talk politics, talk – don’t argue. (Steer clear of arguments about American politics, even if someone is attacking US politicians or policies. Agree to disagree.)

angie, that’s the most telling post i’ve ever seen — if only bush, cheney, rummy & their ilk would follow those rules as much as they follow jesus
DiFi (who I detest) was actually quite good just now on Wolfie about nuking Iran – Duncan Hunter was nuts and had the new Repub meme down cold – “left wing reporter Seymour Hersh” – Wolfie was in full Wolfie mode but did point out that there have been no actual denials from the WH etc of the story.

I also have a comment held in moderation question. Last night, my comments were all moderated, even though only the third comment had a link in it. Is this just a glitch in the anti-troll system or have I offended?
undercoverdick:
Amazing isn’t it? I read it and literally slapped my forehead while doing the ROTF thing.
Why doesn’t Clusterfuck do something USEFUL- like invade Baja?
Think of all of the ocean front condos we could build? – and locals would then already BE in america- so they won’t have to cross any silly borders to take american jobs. The very SIMPLICITY of the plan should appeal to his majesty.
Thanks, kurotenshi.
And sorry for the schedule mix up. Mea culpa and amended, gang. I guess 6:00 a.m. came a little too early for me today.
mommybrain, I’m going to see V for the fourth time tomorrow! It’s my prozac, solace, and anti-koolaid…
I invite y’all to view the Easter message I posted for my posse on my Santa Fe blog:
http://santafeandthefatcityhorns.blogspot.com/
Yeah, the global warming thing. Read Jarrod Diamond’s book “Collapse“. Ruminate on how they will look back up on US in 1,000 years.
Wolf Blitzer=a sheep in wolves clothing.

Happy Easter to you mommybrain, as well as all my favorite secularists out there. I’m doing research right now on the topics you raise. Don’t know when I’ll break out a post on it, however.
Wolf Blitzer = a modest man with much to be modest about…
As part of the war on Easter may I offer some S&M Pr0n?

Four more marines killed in Anbar, Iraq according to an AP report this Easter morning. This brings the total US deaths to at least 2,376. The third anniversary of Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” victory statement is two weeks from Tuesday.
Wearing a Firedoglake t-shirt would make my sex life go through the roof. Anyone know where I can get one? I don’t see any links for the “Ye Olde Firedoglake Gifte Shoppee ‘n’ Snack Hutt.”

• Slow down. (We talk fast, eat fast, move fast, live fast. Many cultures do not.)
I had some Persian and Arab friends in college. They never bombed the bug-infested shack I rented, but they invited me to much-needed feasts of kabob and baba ganoosh (?) and who knows what. Later, some Chinese friends invited me to a birthday dinner. It went on for hours. There was a squid in my soup, and eyes on my flounder, but still, it was incredible. I am not naive, and would not leave for all the tea and oil, but this country would be a better place if we relearned the extended family conversation dinner.
Now I have to leave my computer for a !&!%!!* holiday meal with my *&#!#@ relatives. Don’t delete me when I’m gone. Happy Easter.
I just couldn’t resist Siun. :-)
thought I’d throw this one in the mix:
Here’s my take on why the generals are throwing Rummy under a bus now (hint: prospect of war with Iran).
New thread
Wolfie with a bunch of generals – Brig Gen Marks slapped Rummy with “generals in the field asked for more troops but did not get them” Wolfie – did Rummy reject requests for more troops Marks – Sure. Very well documented. At a crucial time. and more
Gen Grange – asked about the chorus of Gen’s asking for Rummy’s resignation – “small number of generals but several credible voices” very cautious statement – “should be between 4 stars and” Rummy – not taking a stand at all – not the right time to step down – morale of force, etc
Maj Gen Don Shepperd – not derelict in his duties (Rummy) but clearly not enough troops but does not like generals criticizing elected officials – question of propriety
Wolfie asks – but if troops are dying, billions of dollars being squandered, etc shouldn’t the generals speak up. Shepperd says “criticize strategy not the secretary”
Kissinger just called Rumsfield ‘a distinguished public servant’
courtesy Sidney Blumenthal -
“In 1975, Rumsfeld and Cheney stage-managed a Cabinet purge called the “Halloween massacre” that made Rumsfeld secretary of defense and Cheney White House chief of staff. Kissinger, forced to surrender control of the National Security Council, angrily drafted a letter of resignation (which he never submitted)… ”
“In the meantime, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld undermined the negotiations for a new Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty being conducted by Kissinger.”
this one pager by Blumenthal is illuminating -
I had no idea their current MO was established over 30 years ago.
Happy Easter Sharkbunny ! – hope you had fun at the shore yesterday – we are finally seeing V tomorrow! Funny, a few weeks before V opened and I had any idea of the plot, there was some major setback for all of us here to the point where even Pacha lost it – he said something like he was in torch and pitchfork territory, and I responded that that’s ok, I was in Guy Fawkes territory. I remember it b/c the second I hit publish, I regretted it as I thought use of the name might invite even more scrutiny from our NSA Overlords, now of course there must be a couple hundred thousand hits on it at Wiki and I imagaine all those ‘patriots’ are chasing phantoms all over the internets!

Anybody see Ward Churchill vs David Horowitz on CSPAN, yesterday. Rethugs want “equal time” in the colleges. Seems all the professors are stinkin’ libruls. These profs (like Churchill) are ruining the rich folks’ kids. The “compassionate conservatives” raise their kids up “right” with all their prejudice, sense of entitlement and free market trickle down economic principles, then pay a small fortune to send em to college to be taught by a bunch o’leftys. IMHO, Churchill won the debate. It was entertaining if you get at chance to see it.
Seventy-one comments later, Bill Richardson is still governor of New Mexico, not Arizona.
Taylor–thanks especially for the lovely fish. I was worried about bird picture withdrawal with Christy away. Hope she’s getting a good rest.
You know, egregious, I almost put a picture up of our peacocks. I’ll save that for next week, if I can get one that’s clear enough to upload.
Yeah, I know Patrick, it’s done now. Crazy Easter morning at my house.
I’m sittin’ here at my ‘puter with CNN on for background noise. (I know, I’m a masochistic freak that way) and the grand cermudgeon himself, Jack Cafferty just ‘weighed in’ on the Moussaui trial.
According to Jack, there are “many ways” to administer the ‘Death Penalty’. Including just “sentencing him to life in prison and then throwing him into General Population at the toughest Federal Pen around”. Then according to Jack, “The lads will take care of things”.
Yuck, yuck… Oh those kooky “lads” are sure reliable that way aren’t they Jack? wink, wink…
He summed it all up by washing his hands of it and pretending he no longer cared aboutr the outcome, just as long as it hurry up and got here.
Is this what kind of scum is passing for ‘Cable News’ now?
On a Postcard-beatiful Hawaii Easter Sunday morning, I turn on the television to catch a bit of “news” and our resident National Grumpy Conservative Crazy Irish Curmudgeony Blowhard Grandpa figure is promoting DEATH BY ARYAN MOB JUSTICE in Federal Prisons?
WTF…?
Happy Easter to you to… JACK!
I grew up watching Robert Redford movies where the media was a potent check on creeping fascism.
Now the role taken then by the WaPoo and NYTimes has been dramatically superceded by the net.
Defending and extending the net surely has to be a high priority – it is our best and sharpest weapon. The net treats censorship as damage and routs around it but it’s threatened by the ‘ Golden shields’ that various US corporations built for the Saudi’s and Chinese. This ‘ Manchurian global’ is coming home to roost and represents a clear and present danger.
With such high stakes as the future of all life on earth it would not be out of the question for state fascists to launch direct attacks on the net. I suggest we need Chaumian, ie untracable digital cash and crypto-anarchy in order to combat them.
The future keeps happening and has basically come down to open-source everything Vs corrupt crony capitalism. The suspense is terrible – I hope it lasts.

Because I sleep in, I taped and then saw ole Conflict of Interest Kurtz this morning. As usual, he shoveled the bull and on one issue–I’m glad I taped it, after getting a heads up from Americablog last night. I had to play back the segment where Kurt shoveled Politicians being critical of the Media. He mentioned all the Right Wing Attacks against Clinton and then said that Clinton attributed these attacks to the “Liberal Media”. More like the “Right Wing Echo Chamber, of which Howie’s an important Tool.
