Ah yes, Colin Powell. Can’t wait for blurb on him in the history books now that we have a growing chorus of generals calling for Rumsfeld’s resignation or firing. In that chorus is Army Maj. Gen. John Batiste who walked away from a third star because it was getting so bad.

The last line in our Declaration of Independence reads, “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

Powell doesn’t hold up too well in hindsight.

I once had respect for Colin Powell. I now have nothing but contempt. Where are the three cornerstones of American military officers:
“Duty - Honor - Country”.
He did not do his Duty to find out the truth and not promote a lie.

He has lost all Honor as a man and a public official.

He has betrayed his Country.

In other times, he would be stood up before his fellow soldiers, and his rank and honors would be physically stripped from him and ignominiously drummed out.
Too bad they don’t do that anymore, it would be a fit punishment

Ron Russell @ 12:06 am (#174) - You and your wife have a point. Bush does seem a bit daft at times, and the whole rapture thing just strikes me as uncomfortably analogous to Cartagia’s ideas about godhood.

Another Mollari quote to consider: Only an idiot would fight a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts.

We’re haven’t quite reached the Kingdom of Idiots yet, but we’re well on our way. Besides the two active wars, we have Iran and North Korea, and we seem to be doing our best to isolate ourselves from anyone who might be inclined to help us.

I don’t buy Cleter’s view of Wilkinson as that character

Actually, that was my view. I’ve read enough about Wilkerson to imagine him saying things like “some favors come with too high a price” to Powell back when they were at State. Could be wrong of course, but he’s my candidate for now.

What I’m trying to figure out is who is Morden in this Administration? Chalabi? Libby? Stay tuned.

This is the guy who wanted to nuke Baghdad during the first Gulf War in 1991. Anyone who thinks that he is a good guy is lying to themselves.

There are two kinds of people who get ahead in a large bureaucracy (corporate or government, they’re the same): (1) those who are so capable and brilliant that they achieve it, (2) and those who are fairly smart, but so diplomatic, so malleable and ingratiating that they slime their way to the top. Powell is clearly the latter type.

He’s a cut and run coward, sacrificing truth and democratic principles for his own advancement. There is seldom justice, but Powell’s disgrace is justice enough for me.

Said Colin “What, My Lai?” Powell as he looked up from his doctored reports of Iraqi Intel, “Hey, the dog ate my reports on that hamlet in Vietnam, so I just made some shit up, whitewashed the details and give our boys a pass. Since then I’ve gotten even better at the game of ‘cover my six’.

What time is Happy Hour at the Club?”

Cathy (Comment #23):

In terms of Colin Powell’s son: Don’t worry about holding Powell’s son accountable for his father’s crimes. He’S done enough damage of his own at the FCC to warrant a special place in hell (next to his dad, Cheney, Von Rumsfeld, etc).

Cujo359: If Powell is Londo Molari, does that make our Toxic Texan, Emperor Cattargia? My wife always says that those who Bush have trampled are like the Severed heads that lunatic talked to! Also, does that mean the entire world is to be set on fire so that Smirky can achieve “godhood”? Perhaps this explains the focus on Iran. Bush can’t ascend, unless… Babylon5 fans may recall, that when this path was chosen, Londo’s aide put a knife in one of Cartigga’s hearts (unlike Bush who doesn’t have ONE). By the way, who would be Vir Cotto? I don’t buy Cleter’s view of Wilkinson as that character If only we had a bumbling, mumbling honest man like Vir to do what needed to be done! Then again, Vir only did the right thing by accident.
