We need a Lamont style phone bank to our Senators for Sen. Schumers NSA bill. GG has a great post about it. WE need time basically to allow current lawsuits to cook up to well done. The difference between this blog and all the others is the agile well organized nanosecond responses to shit when it hits the fan. I’m reading Sen. Schumers proposal and calling Babs and Paul today. http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.....html#links

American citizens have the final say in classification, declassification and reclassification in our beloved democracy.

Thus, George W. Bush should be declassified as president and Dick Cheney should be declassified as vice president, and both should be reclassified as convicted criminals serving time in some federal lockup.

And, come November, all Republican Senators and Representatives too cowardly to hold their corrupt pals in the Bush administration accountable should have their current status declassified, as well, so they’ll all be reclassified “civilian”, pending of course the outcome of their trials for treason when their temporary classification under “civilian” will change to “corrupt former politician, now a disgraced civilian doing time.”

Jane,
Dont forget that the leaking WMD stories to Wench Miller was co-ordinated with Cheney’s Meet The Press interviews as well. The leaking to Judy was just the usual propaganda tactic from the WH.

Jane,

Another stellar post from a previous one I had missed. And congrats to Christy and you on the Koufax.

I’m late to the Fitzmas Party but I’m reminded of a CBS poll about scandals.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/11/3/18851/8456

Plamegate ranked higher than any scandal in 30 years just under Watergate by 2 points when ranked by “great importance.” A combination of the rankings for “great importance” and “some importance” gives Plamegate (86%) the edge over Watergate (78%). These numbers are from different polls and timeframes but the message is outing a national security asset for political games matters a lot to the American public. I don’t think Plamegate can be “no commented” into oblivion despite WH efforts.

I also think Cheney will eventually resign due to the convenience of a heart condition (Duh!) and we’ll have a Nixon redux appointee prepped to pardon Bush if he needs it. Condi is the obvious veep pick but maybe instead Frist will get the nod for stonewalling and protecting Dear Leader from intense congressional scrutiny. Of course, Roberts is also an enabling firewall on that score but Pat couldn’t rally the southern wingnut-crackers like a Frist can (Apologies to my southern neighbors since I live in Georgia. I’m referring to the Bush diehards who are on the kool-aid drip.).

Digby wrote a long time ago how Bush II was a political operative and I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t some pushing and shoving between Dick and George. The heartbreaker here is the slew of presidential pardons coming down the pike even if Democrats take back Congress in the fall. ITMFA has to be job one. Bush could get away with shredding the Constitution, plopping justice on its ear yet again, and turning national security into a hoax.

Worst. Presidency. Ever.

God, I really don’t like thinking that Bush could get away with the deadly consequences of his chicanery.

xyz 41 and 71: You nailed it. It’s a wonderful thing to see a mind like Fitz’s at work, peeling skin and moving the pieces around the board. You’d think The Nasties had never played before! Lovely to watch and gorgeous to behold.

what ocsteve fails to distinguish is that the nsa employees who leaked to risen and the nyt felt compelled to expose what they considered a crime. whether they were correct or not, they answered a moral imperative, at considerable personal risk.

now, explain to me exactly what crime libby felt he was exposing. joe wilson said mean things about dear leader; hardly a crime in the american political system. to dispute wilson’s charges hardly requires the extraordinary measures of selectively revealing state secrets.

the matters are equivalent only to someone who is willing to discard the moral balance. i could be wrong, i’m willing to be proved wrong. make my day.
