Okay, I’m working with the YearlyKos people to set up an FDL breakfast. I didn’t exactly inherit the "event planner" gene so many gay folks seem to have, but my business consultant side tells me to get some data before I make a fool of myself. Therefore, I need you to take a 3 1 minute survey to help me know how best to serve you.
The FDL breakfast is meant as a celebration of this blog community, which means it’s all about you. It’s also a chance for dear virtual friends to become closer in person.
In that spirit, I’ve put together my own Top Ten Reasons FDL Rocks:
10. Joe Wilson lurks here (Hey, Joe! Ignore the wankers: you look hot in that Vanity Fair photoshoot.)
9. Troll Trexing.
8. We’re getting too big for our britches!
7. Dammit, I got EPU’d!
6. All the right people hate us.
5. Intelligent, compassionate discussions on complex, controversial topics, all day, every day.
4. We don’t just write: we organize and fight.
3. Koufax, anyone?
2. This is no place for Snarkaholics Anonymous.
1. You. Just you. [Insert your name here.]
The survey will close at 5:00 PM EST tomorrow, April 6. I want it up long enough to get a reasonable sample of our community, but not so long it gets spam stuffed. You can only complete it once.
So, what do you like about this place?

fitz baby!
I look forward to y’all coming to Vegas.
leftish intelligent posts that spark informed comments with humor, wit and compassion. and NO TROLLS that distract.
Get that cholesterol out of my face!
[WARNING:BLOGWHORE]
I really like that after posting up the Wednesday Wire by Democrat Abroad John McQueen from DA Germany, I can relax and read the FDL as much as I like. And If I want to go back to the Wednesday Wire I can just hit the back button.
Thats what I like about it. ;)
Vegas: cholesterol, nicotine.
It’s the LAW here. Sorry.
oh and are you going to eat that bacon? cuz if you’re not…
I clicked “probably not” be able to attend, so the point is moot, but, did everyone really have to take 3 WHOLE MINUTES to complete that survey?
If so, you should reconsider the font type/size here…make it a LOT bigger and double-spaced, so the readers can keep up!
Jealously yours,
_Jacqrat
PS I hope everyone has a real BLAST. Truly sorry I’ll miss it.

“leftish intelligent posts that spark informed comments with humor, wit and compassion”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
“Seven Deadly Sins, One Convenient Location. Las Vegas.”
(actual I-15 billboard)
I’m with Slothtrop on the grub. I was thinking more like, pancakes. Or, since FDL is high class, crepes with dainty sophisticated fillings, which are proabably too good for me t appreciate and woule be a waste, but I’d like them. At the Palace Hotel downtown they got this smoked salmon and caviar omlette thing in wine sauce, that would be good too. And, no champaigne?
So, THAT is what I like about FDL, they listen to their clientele (hint hint).
uh, dude, I think you need to compress that graphic.
Great research, brilliant writing, intelligent conversation, and strong sense of community.
The know-it-all (and do-it-all) women.
For breakfast: lox, bagels, cream cheese, thin-sliced red onions ‘n capers.
7:30??? make it 8:00.
I wanna see some grits on that plate. The rest of it looks healthy enough. When I order grits here at Denny’s in Pennsylvania, they give me instant grits. Awful stuff. I’m sure the little bit of it I’ve eaten is going to give me a heart attack one day.
I wanna see real grits!
skippy, clocks are against the law here as well.
Nerophius, #14
“Great research, brilliant writing, intelligent conversation, and strong sense of community.”
I second the emotion.
Pancakes, bacon, maple syrup, hash browns, and unlimited orange juice and coffee.
bacon: take the pig poll?
Buck, this damned-yankee (as my wife calls me) LOVES grits.
Like fried okra, too.
If we start at 8:00 we will run into some convention programming, though is we start early, people can still show at 8:00 and still eat.
I like Jane, Redd, Fiona, a deep bench of great stand-ins like you Pach, excellent thoughtful soulful funny commenters, and lack of troll sewage/feeding to waste my time.
I took the survey and would have committed to advance payment etc but I just signed on to be the exhib coordiantor so I don’t know if I’ll actually have time to do anything but coordinate!
Sigh. I hate being poor. (there, I’ve faced it) I’d be there in a minute if only I could afford to. Kos and FDL and Atrios and Digby and Echidne have given me hope again that the Rethugs can be defeated, and even more important, that intelligent life still exists in the U.S.
If some unexpected windfall shows up in my bank account, I’d hop that plane. As it is, 2 rubber stamps stretched my budge (lucky that project came up right around payday! ).
I love Firedoglake because when my fevered brow heats up with outrage, when I’m about to let the bastards grind me down, when my burning angst is about to catch the drapes, I can come here and lay my heavy burden down. It’s like diving into a pool filled with clear, cold water on a 100 degree, 98% humidity day. Jane, Christy, and you, Pachacutec, remind me that there are good, smart, equally angry people out there and that I’m not so crazy after all.
YAAAAAAY, FIREDOGLAKE!!!
If I’d been quicker I’d have said what neurophius said. I read FDL first. As for Vegas, lived there 2 years in the early 60’s. Never wanted to go back….but have fun.
BTW, FYI – the closest Cracker Barrel is down in Arizona. But, there’s one now under construction in St. George, Utah — where HTN foods are the law in LDS-land.
will the Panel be on the 9th and the bkfst on the 10th? and at the same hotel? if so, I can fly in for the panel, stay overnight and have bkfst and be back that afternoon – all fairly inexpensively.
Oh and of course the ridiculous thrilling fitz thing!
As a rule, there are1.More sharps,2.More grade A++ snark 3.More rational folk here, than about anywhere eles I have found in my netroaming.
This is like my house with a warm fire, and some good freinds over, when we all are up on what happenin…
I never saw Fried green tomatoes down south, not once in my 40+ years there. Now when I go down to Charleston SC half the restaurants serve them.
Darn movies screw things up.
I like okra too, but I like it boiled and stringy and laid on a bed of Carolina rice. Maybe a pat of butter and some salt. But that there’s healthy eating.
The fried ones are pretty good too, but nothing beats grits in the morning.
Thesaurus Rex, #27 -
Well put. Exquisitely so.
I like all the “Jane Hamsher’s of the left” who frequent this blog!
*ilson:
You have that right.
tolerance of annoyingly tangential off-topic occasionally francophone wanna-be funny play-on-words kinds of people….
(is there a haloscan symbol for “whistles nonchalantly as if to feign innocence”?)
jacktheokie -
60’s?
A whole ‘nuther world now. I love it here. Love it.
Naw, don’t go to Cracker Barrel. That’s fake southern eating and most of the food ain’t southern cooked anyway. I’ll cook the grits.
so the panel is on the 9th in the afternoon and the bkfst is in the same hotel the next morning?
Good basis for discussion, and respectful discussion.
Oh, and silly me. One of the reasons I love FDL is PUNAISE!! Yay, bad puns!
But where is cleter lately?
If not in the hotel, then close by.
What we learn about price sensitivity will help us determine location.
Buck, I hear ya. Ya have to go to The Social Grill in B’ham.
BTW- are there any other FDL Vegas locals? Or am I a Welcoming Commitee of 1?
Intelligent, dedicated hosts. Comments. First link to Emptywheel.
TRex – you had me going there until the “bad” part … :-)
shuffles feet, scuffs the dirt: shucks, can’t come to the gig.
snuffy – yeah – and “Sharp” is my NAME, baby! The handle is just a play on it
My problem with getting to yearlyKos is twofold: a) I despise the fascism that has become air travel, and b) I would rather have a sharp stick in my eye than be in Las Vegas. I suppose I could overcome both. I mean, at least there’s BobbyG.
If I don’t go I’d like to throw some $$ at someone dying to but who doesn’t have the money.
What do I like about FDL?
1. *HOT* REDDHEDDs
2. Sizzlin’-hot passion for truth(from Jane) and justice(from Redd)
3. Puns from Punaise (like in #21, above)
4. Pachacutec’s heart
5. The absolutely awesome sense of community — One thing we leftys have ALL OVER the right-wingers is our ability to see beyond “black and white” and connect with the HUMANITY of any given situation. (What I am trying to say is, the posters/commenters here have a more developed emotional I.Q. It comes gushing out in great big waves sometimes.)
AMAZINGLY brilliant community.
Best Snark anywhere.
I laugh out loud more from FDL material than from almost anywhere else on the web.
And I have learned more here about the law and Plamegate than I ever wanted to know—not quite, I did want to know, I’m addicted.
Oh and I’m looking for a roommate in Vegas so I can afford the breakfast. Got a room reserved 8-12 (coming back to the east coast is hard to do if I want to catch the Sunday Brunch, so staying over Sun. too) Anyone interested? let me know at revdeb at mac dot com.
It’s been so cool watching this site grow in popularity. The Plame story had me hooked a long time ago.
Pach,
If you are buying food and doing the breakfast at the hotel, don’t let them charge you for the room on top of the food. The food markup is plenty — I used to do lots of this stuff for nursing conferences, and the room fee is the first thing they add if you don’t demand they take it off.
I love Firedoglake for the excellant writing and the truly evocative commentary. (Hat tip to Thesaurus Rex and punaise). Now to stumble on and catch up on the days post.
Sharkbabe! Give it UP! We are good here in Vegas. We have great fun. We are not simply about “the Strip” and its associated tourist banality.
Come spend an evening with my posse. Come spend a day with me at Red Rock.
http://santafeandthefatcityhorns.blogspot.com/
what I really like about FDL: the subject matter, the hope amongst the despair, the passion and expertise of the hosts and commenters, the general civility of the discourse (hey, shut up and let me finish, OK?), the simultaneous rolling conversations on multiple subjects that carry through threads, the snarkasm, the fact that a single word or remark in a comment can start a thread’s worth of witty repartee, the sense of community…for starters. oh, and Late Nite, where all is forgiven – right?
I came for the info by way of Jane’s guesting at Digby’s, and stayed for that combined with the attitude. I love Christy’s and Jane’s attitudes and writing. (And don’t take being left out of this personally Pachacutec, ’cause I’m warming to your attitude and writing, it just takes me awhile to adjust to change.)
I hadn’t realized part of why I like Jane’s style until Christy made the Hunter S. Thompson remark on C-Span, but I’ve alway’s been fond of that Gonzo style, and she’s got it!
Oh, gosh, I like finding a community of like-minded folks who share information and ideas generously and freely. Firedoglake was my first exposure to blogs — wasn’t I lucky?
I’m continually grateful for the entire community, but especially for some old-time posters who were kind to me when I first arrived and answered my questions simply and straight-forwardly, so I could keep up. I like all the writers, especially Reddhedd and Jane, and the fact they are so responsive to our requests and suggestions.
I value the contribution firedoglake is making to our country, the responsible, caring citizens who make up our community and the sanity I feel here at firedoglake. Finally, I like FITZ and hope, trust….
This place is filled with real conversation. Dramatic, funny, cranky, outraged, and witty conversations by people who are respectful of each other (and can agree to disagree). (And people actually read. What a concept…/irony.)
i like the beat and you can really dance to it. I give it a 78.
oh, wrong show.
Uh I like the truth and pain, and both are here in elevated doses.
Kinda like Tom Delay vs Tom Tomorrow
I like firedoglake because it’s a regular snarkfest and because it is open 24 hours a day. Also, bacause unlike work, t-rexing makes it republicanless.
As an aside, I like sausage gravy & bisquits.
RUBBER STAMP REPUBLICAN CONGRESS
does one have to register at YearlyKos @ $125 to attend the panel and get the $98/night hotel room?
THIS IS A GREAT THREAD FOR PEOPLE TO DE-LURK ON, WOULDN’T IT JANE & REDD?
curious in central Texas #57
Firedoglake was my first exposure to blogs — wasn’t I lucky?
you couldn’t have picked a better place to lose your blog-ginity. you’ll always remember your first lurk.
damn you BobbyG – weakening… :)
Huevos Rancheros for me, please.
And I agree with Neurophius, post 14.
my only quibble – I can’t get any darn work done anymore!
For me,there are 3 reasons:
The Honest committment to Truth and Justice
delivered personally with passion and delicious snarky intelligence
to a discerning, mature, collaborative and warm family of experienced progressives.
Firedoglake is unlike any blog I’ve visited and I’m proud to be a member of the FDL Late Nite Action Team, Massachusetts Chapter.
Thanks to Jane and Christy and all of our guest posters for the last 8 months of all things political and progressive.
OK, here’s what I (centrist inpdependent that I am) love most about this “leftie/pinko/commie” blog (and “lib” posters in general). As an overwhelming undeniable empirical observation, we do NOT indulge in the violent eliminationatist rhetoric SO characteristic of our rightist antagonists. We may mock, deride, and disdain their views in pointing out their illogic, but we do not wish upon THEM the sort of horrors they routinely wish upon US.
THIS is the distinguishing honorable characteristic above all (and we have Redd and Jane largely to thank for enforcing via their worthy personas that sense of eyes-on-the-prize relative decorum). THIS is what keeps bringing me back here. To listen, to debate, and to learn (the latter most of all). Sans the usual “libtards hate America and should die” crap.
Sharkbabe, you must!!
Punaise, is it time or money?
Date of breakfast again?
9th, right?
I love the snark. The analysis. The comments are the best in the blogosphere. The citizen action.
And of course, Norskeflamethrower’s CAPITALS!
KEEP THE FAITH, THERE WILL BE MORE OF US THAN THEM IN VEGAS BABY!
(sorry Norske ; )
Excerpt of MSNBC/Reuters story:

Jane, this is way OT, but something you might be interested in. Here’s the headline, fresh from Americablog:
British police take man off of plane, suspected of terrorism after listening to the Clash (I’m not kidding)
http://americablog.blogspot.co…..plane.html
10. Joe Wilson is one sexy ass bad dude of a husband and I believe that is valued here.
9. Sense of Community. I can come here and melt down and no one judges…at least not to my face
8. Trolls wither and scream in pain
7. Jane says what I am feeling and says it so well.
6. Am also a true red head and adore that some one else with a matching cuff and collar can smoke Republican ass. Makes me feel good about lawyers.
5. The Mom Factor. I appeciate Christy’s honesty when she is torn between being awsome mom and awesome blogger.
4. Humor. Humor. Humor.
3. Great Graphics.
2. Great Name. Don’t understand it but yes, Bedlam IS Dreaming of Rain.
1. Me. Florida Mom.
And let’s not forget the action items that get us off our asses and doing things.
(The anticipation of the rest of the rubber stamp campaign is killing me)
AND we did an amazingly wonderful thing for a woman-owned business in MI last week. Makes me feel good just thinking about it.
This is only the beginning, I hope, of “We the People” taking back our country. If someone’s gotta do it, it might as well be us.
I have been thinking about this for a while — at least since the Jane/Christy vacation weekend. As others have said, what is happening at FDL is an intelligent conversation combined with action, Which in my mind makes Jane and Christy great leaders. In the context of the concept of the dictatorship of the proletariat, Mao said (something like) “The role of a leader is to tak the discordant voices of the masses and return to them a voice of action.”
Need I say more?
OK, I will — when Jane and Christy were away for those few short days, I realized how much this is a gendered conversation. By that I mean the tone and quality is set in part because of the Woman-ness of our hosts. Look around the blogosphere — men, men, men, men. But this place is intelligent, tough and profane without the male self contratulatory swagger.
I admit I was really upset to see Armando guest post here, because I consider him antithetical to everything I value about FDL. Sure, he has reasonably good politics, if not exactly sophisticated. But he is a self-righteous shit who cannot stand being anything but the smartest guy in the room. I have so little tolerance for minds of that caliber. Because, as some of us like to say about prosectors, “we all appreciate the righteous, but all recoil from the self-righteous.”
Which is only to say how oddly (and woderfully) un-self-righteous Jane and Christy are. Christy has much more of a prosector’s perspective than I could ever and Jane moves with a crowd that is angel-like in their remove from my reality.
But I trust them both completely and I know that they listen closely. Which is what makes this converstaion worthwhile to me.
Next post: why I love the comments….
T Rex #42
Hi, here I am. It’s that time of the semester when time gets scarce.
T Rex #27 and Punaise #55 sum it up for me. Also, I like pancakes.
Here is the wire story on the Libby filings. Peter Yost, the AP reporter, seems to slant things Libby’s way, but this the ruling seems fair to me. My non-lawyerly reading of it says Fitz can exclude giving some material to the defense if he can prove cause. But I’m not a lawyer so I’ll be interested in hearing other opinions.

Hi Florida Mom!!!!! How is it going? iirc, you are starting your own blog.
Dang, my band’s big deal last gig ever is on the 11th… Well I could still make the brekky and most of the event…

oh, and the musical nostalgia shared among several overlapping generations of folks.
Plame panel, 9th.
Breakfast, 10th.
modest, my ass. the chance to have coined the moniker Ole 60 Grit.
Not well enough to go; not always well enough to write — but FDL is an almost constant companion: y’all are like the best of both family and friends, a gentle, fiery, principled, snarky, warm, humorous, brilliant, caring and never dull community of questers for justice and truth. Isn’t it funny? I feel I know each one of you and yet we could pass on the street and we’d never know it! I will be thinking of you in Vegas, though — and be there in spirit.
Hi Florida Mom!!!!! How is it going? iirc, you are starting your own blog.
Omigawd. As soon as I overcome this crappy bout of flu that has sunk me like the Titantic. By the by. Don’t all be in such a hurry to K. Harris leave the Florida Senate Race. We want her to stay in the race until May 15th so that is total screws up the ballot. So send up good thoughts and wish her well. Because if she nose dives out in the next week JEB will be more then willing to become SENATOR JEB…OHS.
Not a day goes by that some new shit rears its ugly head here. But for some hope check out this: http://www.clintcurtis.com
we do NOT indulge in the violent eliminationatist rhetoric SO characteristic of our rightist antagonists
Well, maybe YOU don’t, BG. I think those people are bad for America and demonstrably dangerous to the world. I would VERY happily see them all smothered with their pillows or drowned a la Grover Norquist in the bathtub.
But I understand that we’re better than them, so we don’t say mean things like that.
Another thing I like–now–is the trexxing of the anti-scroll-troll-too-many-blank-lines-can’t-post-a-complete-comment version of HaloScan.
Pachacutec, don’t forget the forgiving nature of the regulars to the semi-regulars who are occasionally prone to drinking and posting.
the ongoing concern for GrandmaJ’s family!
(emblematic of the generous empathy ’round here)
Thesaurus Rex: in the humane spirit of the French Revolution, I feel the guillotine is appropriate. Or maybe not.
Things I like about fdl:
1. You can call it watercatpond on the WaPoO blog and people here think that’s funny.
2. You can show up at the SF LGBT Center with a bandaid on your forehead and end up spending the day shopping in the Castro and eating overlooking the Pacific with ReddHedd.
3. Oh and the hostesses sometimes bring flowers.
4. Oh and folks here don’t mind if you keep your catch-phrase past its fresh date.

ok– my vote for breakfast food is a wonderfully crisp baked and warm rundstykker or birke with great danish butter, stinky cheese, and homemade strawberry preserves and a strong cuppa coffee or tea. If not, sausage gravy and homemade biscuits will do. If not available, delectable callalloo and very warm and fragrant coco bread. ok, I will stop now. Hungry and need to stop having these sensory hallucinations now.
People who spell their names with *s
Like curious in central Texas #57, my first exposure to blogs was Emptywheel at TheNextHurrah and FDL. Boy, did I ever luck out.
In fact, I was thinking back and I can’t for the life of me remember what like was like before FDL. It is like my memory before that has been completely wiped out. Where did I get analysis on the news? My snark fix? My god! What was life like before FIREdoglake? Did everyone eat raw meat!?!
maybe Pachacutec will simply whip up some quinoa fritters for breakfast…
“So, what do you like about this place?”
The only blog the “gets” and goes after the mighty Wurlitzer (Jane).
Good legal analysis, Christy and commenter’s.
Best blog community on the Internet.
Honorable Mention: immam posting lyrics to an old Animals song, San Franciscan Nights! LOL Still laughing about that ; )

I feel I know each one of you and yet we could pass on the street and we’d never know it!
You should wear your FDL Blogger button.
Jane,Christy, you listening?
I’m in Florida too. Right now Jeb is pretty pissed off at the Republicans wrt immigration. His wife must be nagging him pretty good.
Phac OK I’ll take the eggs (soft) with bacon, sour dough, and pics. Please.
Just kidding, just longing to be there. Go FDL!
Thesaurus Rex: in the humane spirit of the French Revolution, I feel the guillotine is appropriate.
Mmmmmm. Guillotine.
How do you say, “SSSSSSSSSSS, THUNK!” in French?
The intelligent, witty, incisive, and yes, snarky commenters.

Re-read my post. It was an empirical observation. I am a practicing statistician. My goal in life, consequently, is to be wrong only 5% of the time (alpha=0.05)
;)
MOST of these eliminationist violence baiters, in my view, are full of shit, anyway. Chickenshit Keyboard Commandos. I’m fully prepared to throw down with those who mean it, though.
That would be what LIFE was like before FDL.
sorry.
Jane’s the only blogger who’ll let me be a minion.
But really it’s for the insight, on matters Fitz and not. The posters here are different, but all are truly gifted. And there are commeters and comments that are interesting sans trolls.
ccmask:
Hasn’t it been fun to watch? Poor, poor Jeb. He had to come out today and say his wife was an immigrant but hastened to add she was LEGAL. Pathetic.

I’m Shirazing in that category tonight. Geeeez, I got a hospital presentation in the morning, too. Better slow down here…
I came and kept reading bec. of the wonderful writing by Redd and Jane- great complementarity there. I very much identify with Jane’s “and fuck you too” spirit. Actually, I think RH equally has the FU spirit, she just expresses it more measured tones than I would ever be able to do. And I stayed and stayed because of that, and because of the incomparable sense of community at FDL, engaging discussions, humor, etc., etc.
And, Pach, BTW, it is still totally up in the air as to whether I can attend the conference at all… however, I did mark the breakfast cost at the upper end, not because I expect or need a costly gourmet breakfast– rather, meaning that I was willing to kick in a larger amount for those who could only kick in a smaller amount. And, BTW, offer of $$ support for the feast is still good, even if I can’t attend the conference.
-
Omg of course I’m so used to it I don’t even think of it anymore – this place is womanpowered and utter woman power. which makes it draw the coolest most evolved men also. and quality is the bottom line, so the crap divisions are made meaningless. this is true of all the best blogs but there’s something especially unique and strong here on that score.

Now, for the reason I love FDL– it is honest, incisive and progressive. This is a forum for honest people to discuss important issues and that does not tolerate intolerance. It is a place that mirrors what America should stand for. It is also a place to have fun. Thank you to all the wonderful contributors and hosts here. FDL allows me to breathe, rant, laugh, and dream of a better world.

Oops I meant IT. It does seem to draw very cool men here. and CCMASK I don’t drink but I am always up for a night in Ybor. When and where?
OT: But just saw this from Washington Post:
Walton said the government may in some cases present the court the actual classified information that Libby wants for his defense without letting the defendant and his lawyers see it. The judge would then determine whether some of the deletions or substitutions that the government is making are proper.
“Despite the fact that the defendant is a former national security official and some of his defense team hold security clearances, this does not entitle them to view documents that exceed the level of their security clearances or documents that may discuss particularly sensitive issues with profound national security implications,” the judge wrote.

Breakfast is on me. Guaranteed laughs. Maybe my daughter can join us (REALLY guaranteed laughs in that case. I need to talk to her about doin’ standup).
Well, you certainly didn’t inherit the compassionate gene either. What I don’t like about this site, and why I will never visit it again, is that it’s become obvvious that this site is just another bagman for the brutal meat industry. How many times are you people going to discuss eating sausages in your lead posts, and putting pictures of same up before it becomes obvious to the last civilized reader that you are being paid to do so?
Enjoy your breakfast. Sensient beings were subjected to unspeakable horrors and killed to stuff your disgusting devouring mouths. If you want to eat animals privately that’s your own sin, but being paid to promote products by the Meat Industry Lobby is beneath contempt.
Have to sign off for tnow. Peace to all and to all a good night.

HAHAHAHAH.. Imm… that will probably not be a popular opinion, and I wouldn’t have said it *quite* that way myself… but I’m not sure I could have said it better. I really had to restrain myself (and I did) when commenting (positively) on his post the other eve…so as not to add something like- I guess you’re really not as much of a shit as I thought you were. (Pach’s not gonna like this comment….)
One other thing. FDL is a place that makes it safe to post, even if my grammar and syntax usually falls below par.
(Is “below par” correct usage there? Because, it doesn’t make logical sense. Lower score (e.g., X Under Par) is *DESIRABLE* in Golf, yes?)

Something I love about Redd I noticed watching her on TV. She was up against that creep from Powerline and when she would finish pointing out his erroneous statements and the (deeply) flawed logic behind them, she would conclude her statements with this sort of apologetic half smile, like, “Yes, Mr. Powerline, you’re utterly busted and WE ALL KNOW IT, so why don’t you just go easy on yourself and not fight the inevitable.”
It was just a shade maternal, just a shade favorite-teacher-caught-you-smoking-in-the-bathroom, and juuuuust a shade, “Ah-HA!! Take THAT, BIIIIITCH!!”
So adorable, so matter of fact, and yet so highly effective as a debate tool. I discovered after seeing it on TV that that same quality thrums in every word she writes.
YAY, REDD!!
I wish for once I could hear from somebody who refuses to chew meat, or eschews animal products, speak so eloquently about killing people in your name. Who are you, anon? Come on out and speak your mind in public.
For whoever upthread was wondering — Bad Religion — “Los Angeles Is Burning”
Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of a blue St. Anne’s skirts are billowing
But down here in the city of the lime lights
The fans of santa ana are withering
And you can’t deny that living is easy
If you never look behind the scenery
It’s showtime for dry climes
And bedlam is dreaming of rain
When the hills of los angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze

Ah, so that’s how Jane and Christy make the big bucks, The Meat Industry. Oh, Brother!

LOL! No Sale.
Just came back from a piano concert–mostly Bach–and saw this great thread. The first blog for me was afterdowningstreet, and then I lurked on kos, mostly. Then firedoglake. I love this place the best because of the quality of discussion, the trexing and epus, and what punaise says, #92, the interludes of sympathy and interest in people’s lives apart from their politics and reactions to news events. I like the humor of late-nite and Sunday mornings. I like the pictures of birds. (It give rwcole a chance to see more than “large black colored ones and smaller brown colored ones.”) And I like that all the engagement with ideas leads to action. It’s the spirit of firedoglake, finally, that makes it ideal.

That’s a joke, right? You’re not seriously accusing the FDL team of promoting some kind of Secret Meat Agenda, are you?
seaside – I’m liking where Reggie Walton’s been goin disdainwise with these freakin crooks and their imperial bubblehood, now they stand before the bar naked, such a shame they can’t go Hey Reggie, look! Cynthia McKinney’s hair! It worked so well for Bush and Rove and Cheney all these years…
Brilliant writing replete with metaphors and analogies all designed for the political junkie in a format that we could only dream about five years ago. Combine that with schoolyard insults, savage satire and a completely necessary irreverence. Ya ya ya. But why isn’t anybody mentioning the insolence?
I haven’t gone yet but I get the invites each month. Always conflicted with early AM meetings…next one coming up I’m going and I’ll let you know. I wouldn’t be drinking and driving….I’ll find a client in town so it will be a business trip.
PS “It includes Indians too!†(for Cozumel)
LOL The day after you posted that I heard that song in a convenience store on satellite radio. First time in, umm, 20 years or so probably. I couldn’t believe it ; )
My wife’s granparents who live in central Texas once belonged to a “meat club” where an extended group of people split a bunch of butchered pigs, cows, sheep and such. Do I fit in here or what?!
Spambots of the Meat Industry! Brushed-aluminum Halliburton-Zero attache cases full of…sliced salami! Bring it on! (Plus two poached, medium, please and a dark coffee.) Lordy.
Pacachutec, re Sharkbabe 48: Is there a scholarship fund where we might help defray registration/accommodation costs for FDL attendees?
dana – Bach. That is all.
I am fortunate to live in listening distance to WBJC Baltimore, the most kickass, nothin-but-the-music classical station on the planet.

Me too. Married one. Been together 32 years. I get away with NOTHING. But, on balance, it’s worth it. Luckily, she’s a Jimmy Carter Liberal, registered Dem.
(we get all this dad-gumbed mail…,’honey, you’re a fucking donation MARK…’ She has an ENTIRE DESK DRAWER FULL of return address stickers. Y’know, whatever; I don’t even look in the checkbook anymore to see what baby seals, peregrine falcons, tsunami victims, poverty people, Afghan orphans et al we’re contributing to of late.)
…and I’ve misspelled your name. Profound apologies, Pachacutec. I’ll do better next time, promise!
I am here – lurking. Punaise, and all, thanks for remembering my family. We are still grieving. In fact, the grieving seems to be getting worse with everyone going on with their lives. But that is what must happen.
This place is great because of the leaders here, and the great commenters. And I lost my blogginity on the DFA blog where we spent many a night hitting the bat. Then went to the Kos blog, where I was promptly given a list of ‘0’s because I was shouting ‘Dean was robbed.’ But I calmed down.
But this is the best yet. I learn so much and the warmth and sympathy did manage to reach across the net wires at the time of our family’s grief (and my absolute distress and panic). Wish I could be in LasVegas with all of you, but aside from money, physically I am just not able to do it.
Someone should tape the breakfast and show it here.
PLEASE SEND PICS TO FDL.
Hey GrandmaJ! Always in part of my mind….
Well, I probably shouldn’t feed, but I am 50/50 as to whether the meat comment was serious, or brilliant snark. Stranger things have happened here…
Pach & Jane & Redd, you guys realize this thing here is getting big enough you’re gonna have to have a FDL-acon…
night all, my goats will be yelling for their breakfast at 5 am down here in dogpatch
We can set up a system where generous community members can pitch in to cover costs for those of us on tighter budgets, all anonymously. That’s doable. If we have extra, Jane and Christy can designate a charity, or maybe give it to Ned.
Y’know, I will gladly do for FDL in Vegas what I have done for my homies in Santa Fe (e.g., pics of the happenings).

I’m good with the camera on the fly.
OK Totally off Topic (mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa) CSAPN 3 has the pardon of Casper Weinberger and the reaction of Judge Walsh on tonight, and the subsequent report of Larry Walsh and I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO gotta tell you that the (opposite of deja vu–I forget the term {not jamais vu Punais, the other–third– one}) is killing me.
This could be Scooter and Fitz except for the fact that Larry Walsh is the ONLY person on the earth with worse suits than Pat.
If you havre not seen this the pardon press conferences were 12/24/92 and the final report press conference was 1/18/94.
I am sick, sick, sick over this. History can repete itself. You should hear Walsh’s bitterness over having his cut and dried prosecution yanked out from under him with weeks to go before the start of the trial.
At the time of Inran-Contra, I worked for the government. I was morbidly facinated with this case. I was SOOO conflicted. The government gave me, a young, green prosecutor almost unlimted power to do good; yet that same government did so many bad things.
I have not felt that way again until Plame. I can’t let the Plame case go b/c it brings back so many memories of feeling that my government has betrayed itself and all of us.
The Inra-Contra case and the injustice of the pardons were DEFINING matters in lives of young AUSAs in the Southern Distict of NY in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I cannot tell you how many new AUSA’s tried to gerrymander their start dates so that their Appointment Certificates would not be signed by Meese b/c they believed Meese was a bad guy.
my motto-if it has a face, don’t eat it.
fred rogers’ motto was-if it has a mother, don’t eat it.
i love fdl, but i love earth’s creature’s more.
how about changing that meat pix to a nice bowl of cereal.
and, skip the eggs also. those chicken’s have a crummy life too.
All right, I won’t be in Vegas for YearlyKos. Even though Vegas will much sunnier and much warmer than Michigan.
I’ll be having a good breakfast here in Michigan along with you. Since 8:00 am is truly an evil hour on a Saturday, here’s it’s 10 am. and I’m cool with that. LOL! I’ll raise my coffee to you all and be watching the blogs. Thankfully food and coffee do not travel well through screens. I personally am not fond of wearing either one. :D
Christy and Jane, you both have done an awesome job. There is absolutely no doubt about it. You both have the fire, spine and the will to say what needs to be said. You both have excellent organization and communication skills to lead and represent. You both get your points across.
I think I’ll have beligian waffles on FDL Breakfast day. LOL!

GrandmaJ- try to hang in there- please- and let us know how we can support you. And, participation from afar is always good. Maybe you can start planning your own personal FDL breakfast for that day… sit down to something wonderful and delicious and savor every bite in the FDL spirit. xxoo
We’ll absolutely have meatless breakfast options, have no fear!
After reading through all the comments, these are the three things I love about FDL:
1. Community
2. Community
Some Vegas tips for those on a budget from a tourist ; ) Stay off the Strip for food. The “Meal Deals” there are long gone IMO. I had a NY Steak Dinner at the Rio last December = $45! Off the Strip, still probably reasonable or good.
Slot machines no longer take coins, someone please tell Digby ; ) It’s all paper money (in)and vouchers (out) now.
Drinking tip: Play video poker at a casino bar. As long as you start with a minimum of $20 in the machine, your drinks are ‘comped’ as long as you’re playing. I don’t gamble really, it’s a beer hedge fund! LOL
All IMO, from a tourist.
Let’s just try that again:
Community, community, community.
And snark.
Okay, that’s four.

sharkebabe–” am fortunate to live in listening distance to WBJC Baltimore, the most kickass, nothin-but-the-music classical station on the planet.” I envy you!!
Unfortunately, this earlier comment from someone against meat consumption is incredibly reminiscent of a Sunday morning response to Redd’s fritatta post a couple of months ago. That person swore off FDL forever, now I think that person came back. I have dear ones who do not eat flesh, they never condemn others for not doing the same. Good way to talk to people, eh?
if I go, I will be having such jetlag! To my body, the breakfast will be at either 5am or 6am. Indiana just went on Daylight Savings Time (first time in 30 years)(damn you, Mitch!) so I am not exactly sure what the time differential will be with Vegas. Seemingly I can leave Indpls at 11am and arrive at 1145am. At 64yo, these little things are important…(grumble, grumble, mumble)
I like that you understand all the legal nuances of what goes on and can explain them to the rest of us. I feel like I am getting the inside scoop explained about things like the Plame case and what Fitz really means when he says or does this or that. I also like your sense of humor about everything.
One of the main reasons why I love this place so much
is the passion that’s expressed like the one above from looseheadprop.
Oh and also no one makes fun of my bad sentence structure and horrible spelling mistakes.
Well, not openly anyway……
Found this place when Plame began heating up and have become a major fan. I always come by by to enjoy the insight, snark, and wonderful comments. Wish I could make it to Vegas- enjoy!!!
OMG, I actually have something to add -
Why do we all love this place and consider it our on line home ?
The answer is in of all places, this morning’s Post/Thread: Pedophiles – What You Should Know
It is by no means an easy read – but take a look at this community and Our Goddesses when we take a path divergent from the usual context of politics – you will not be surprised or disappointed
263 comments – honesty, practical information, pathos, sympathy, civil debate, barely civil debate, there’s some humor – Survivors Prosecutors, Crim Def., Social Workers, Clinicians, Ministers, lots of Parents and Grandparents, Docs., Nurses
what emerges from this very tough thread is the decency, honesty and humanity of this community. I wouldn’t even know where to start with Jane and Christy – all I know is when I finished slogging through, I never felt more proud or lucky to be included here
BobbyG: If you’re a stats guy, want to send me an email? I may ask you to run the numbers for me a couple of ways, once the results are all in.
Are you game? Just simple summary stats, but I’ll want to break out a couple of different models based on different assumptions, counting or removing the “probablt not” attenders, seeing if that influences cost sensitivity, etc.
I’m at pachacutec01 at gmail dot com.
The way I read #123, is “total joke”. Probably in reference to the “fritatta incident” angie mentioned above.
But, I gotta say, “What happens in meat club, stays in meat club.†is one for the ages! Nice goin’, Gomiboy.
cbl 172:
That was my reaction to that thread as well.
We took a topic that seldom if ever gets much meaningful discussion, and we heard from the whole panoply of people with experience with the topic. That thread is so full of humanity and intelligence, it’s why I chose to link it in the main post.
Reasons I love FDL: straight shooting take no prisoners commentary; mobilization of outrage to action; wit; passion; and a deliciously knowledgable and pissed off community.
I love coming here for the people and what cbl #172 said. Live blogging of the winter olympics opening ceremonies, contests to show poetic ability and snark (and EVERY vote counted!), Kobe and the Sunday birds….Patrick Fitzgerald…
It’s all so informative, and welcoming, and if there are misunderstandings and hurt feelings, there’s the inevitable apology. Better than a flesh and blood family!
…and grace, passion, eloquence, humor, anger, tenderness, understanding, honesty and has anybody mentioned snark?
There are so many reasons to love this place. In today’s world (the real one and the internets one) there is so much ugliness, stupidity, horror, fear, and ignorance. FDL is truly a refuge.
Thanks, Redd and Jane.
OT, kinda– but I was thinking about Pelosi and the “needed” evidence for censure. And, these phrases came to mind- “I have ears but I hear not” “I have eyes but I see not”. I don’t know where they come from (Bible verse, King James I’d guess), but I googled for the phrases, and came up with nada. Can anyone help me remember? thx
oh yes! the live blogging of the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies! What fun! and with that cheesy Ferrari spinout … feh!
Jacqrat says:
April 5th, 2006 at 7:53 pm One other thing. FDL is a place that makes it safe to post, even if my grammar and syntax usually falls below par.
(Is “below par†correct usage there? Because, it doesn’t make logical sense. Lower score (e.g., X Under Par) is *DESIRABLE* in Golf, yes?)
YES, this is correct usage- below par, or sub par, as far as I know. I never thought about it before, but it doesn’t make sense!
VG: Psalm 115, King James:
“They have mouths, but they speak not:
eyes have they, but they see not:
6 they have ears, but they hear not:
noses have they, but they smell not:
7 they have hands, but they handle not:
feet have they, but they walk not:
neither speak they through their throat.
8 They that make them are like unto them;
so is every one that trusteth in them. Ps
Doesn’t No. 123 know that the real reason most of us are here is all the “red meat” Jane and Redd feed us several times a day?
These are a few of My Favorite Things (thinking of Coltrane’s version here…)
Jane and ReddHedd and Plamegate
Punaise, prof and Pachacutec
Zennurse, Sharkbabe and Mrs K8
and, of course, the thread-leading FITZ!!
That last bit about misunderstandings and “inevitable apologies” came out kinda funky but you know what I mean. It’s bedtime in Michigan, but I’m thinking I’ll have some waffles for FDL Brekkest Day too.
G’night all!
cbl 172- well said.
to 176 i would like to add a big thank you for all the times i laughed out loud with this fantastic mix of personalities. fdl makes getting through the dark bush years a bit easier. thank you. thank you.
p.s. oscar night was swell with you guys. i think everyone had sweatpants on and was drinking wine.
the chance to say “new thread”
“the chance to say “new threadâ€
LOL
Jane, I need to qualify my answers to the survey. I said I was “probably” coming rather than “probably not” coming because you didn’t have a middle category that says “coming if I can convince my spouse that it will give me an opportunity to find a master blogger who will let me be her or his apprentice blogger after I get out of grad school” (seriously). I can’t really calculate the probability of that (my spouse’s approval)happening.
All those hot pictures of Joke Line.

T Rex #135
Secret Meat Agenda would be a good name for a band.
Fearless FDL has it all – wit, style, focus, integrity, purpose, and best of all an infectious spirit evoking the spunk of earlier American heroes/heroines from the Jazz Age through the Atomic Age: St. Vincent Millay, H.L. Menken, Dorothy Thompson, Edward R. Murrow, Stowitts, Eleanor Roosevelt and countless other thinking Americans, including my late Daddy, a hard working American newspaperman who spotted Chris Matthews as an “idiot box demagogue” from the get go.
BTW – am working on copy for a Pink Slip Coupon template on card stock for postcard size mailing to MSNBC executives & Hardball sponsors…will welcome any & all suggestions through Sunday the 9th.
English breakfast tea with milk, freshly baked scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. Ah, brain food.
Punaise, when you said “new thread,” were you actually saying “new thread,” or were you just speaking hypothetically?
What a great thread!
Let’s all have a little round of applause!
clapclapclapclapclapclapclap! To you!
Ok, OT…way way off topic.
I’ve been lurking for weeks, LOVE fdl. It’s now my first click for political news and deee-licious snark, but……
What the hell does EPU’d mean???? I see it, I’ve been a good lurker waiting for the explanation to magically appear. It’s driving me nuts.
Thanks to anyone who takes pity on me
dana says:

Thank you!!! I really do not understand why this did not turn up in a google search. I am good at google searches. At least I know that my mind/ memory is still semi- intact. imo the King James version is full of poetry, sadly lost in later versions. Again, thank you.
Oh *ilson, and here I thought I was the oldest person here. :-) Beat me by a couple of years. Now where did I [mis]place that wisdom that comes with age…
Pach,
Reason #1 for me:
During breaks the past three days I’ve been trying to data mine for the late nite contest. This place is SO different. Obviously, different from the right wing scatological galaxy. But, even compared to great lefty blogs like atrios or kos – kos has a sense of community, but not like you’re living next door to the commenters. That’s the way I feel here, especially like when my dog poops in somebody’s yard.
Reason #2:
Good tips on politics and good tips on life.
Reason #3:
Humor on all levels. The tone is set by Jane and Christy, who take themselves far less seriously than any of my other favorite bloggers – Markos, Josh, Lindsay, or – good heavens! – Arianna.
When I thought all hope was gone, I found this place, and realized that hope was never gone. It may have been shattered into a thousand pieces, but FDL has helped put those pieces back together into a new, beautiful form. Thanks Jane and Christy and everyone else who posts here. I really do love you guys!
Grandma J – you are often in my thoughts and I worry about you. Have you thought about grief counseling? I do think that being able to share your feelings and your pain would help lighten your load. As always, I send many prayers and positive thoughts your way.
“EPU’d” is named after frequent commenter and community member “Evil Parallel Universe,” who frequently found his thoughtful posts got lost as the herd moved up to a new comment thread.
So, when your comment gets lost at the end of a thread – as your question just almost did – you’ve been EPU’d!
197 juslikagrzly
According to the FDL Dictionary;
EPU’d: an occurance named after a regular here, Evil Parallel Universe, who had the unfortunate occurance of posting at the end of old threads (I think) when most folks had moved on to a newer one. Thus, to be EPU’d is to have your post occur at the end of a thread. One can move to the next thread with a comment dealing with the previous with the statement, “I was EPU’d”.
Did I do ok EPU?
Ooh, let me have this one! I love it when new people ask what EPU means.
EPU (short for Evil Parallel Universe) is a long time poster who had an uncanny knack for posting an insightful comment right at the moment a new thread emerged. To be EPU’d is to be abandoned on an old thread after the creation of a new thread. It is a liminal state between comment threads.
I’m sure someone has already answered this by now, since I type sort of slow.
Thanks muchly Pachacutec and Southpaw. Where might I find the FDL dictionary. I looked a bit for “rules” and such but obviously didn’t look hard enough. And I am about to be EPU’d it appears :-). Looks like I should move on up to the next thread.
where is EPU, anyhow?
What do I like about this place?
The proprietors let people take a bite out of crime here.
Sorry, juslikagrzly, the “dictionary” was just a joke on my part (and not a very good one) Not a bad idea tho’…
now that fdl threads are running near 300 posts will we need the acronym sithabp?
sorry if this has already been posted
205 juslikagrzly:
Speaking of getting EPU’d, we just did.
OhioBlue – thanks for the thoughtful words. I have thought about grief counseling. My son saw a grief counselor everyday at the hospital, but not of late. My problem is grief combined with just plain old worry for my son. The problems he faces are just starting.. and as a mother all I can offer is my love and support. I cannot take one ounce of burden from his shoulders and it is terrible for a mother to watch him in pain. I got out for lunch today (and missed the thread this am about the child predators).
I am going to start quilting again soon. Busy hands, quiet mind.
P.S. It has taken me over 4 minutes to write this post. The lag time is getting worse. I really do need a new ‘puter methinks.
Darkblack – #207
WOWIE! That would look GREAT on a t-shirt with FDL URL on the back!
Since it was EPU’d, however, I’d repost it in the above thread – :D
“Loves it!”
I got EPU’d at FDL.
I’ve read FDL every day since sometime late last summer. Drawn here by the Plame writing.
I love FDL’s informative writing, savy thinking, great sourcing and the outrage.
In the fall of 2003 I was one of the one’s that kinda believed the admin. when they implied or said the leak didn’t come from them. To me it seemed unthinkable that a White House would damage any intelligence person or operation after all the screaming officials did after 9/11 about not having enough intel. etc. Each month revealed more rumors and tiny little bits of news. But little outrage when it became so clear they did it. I don’t remember what made me think to look at blogs last summer, but I did and found FDL. I’m so grateful for Jane’s creation.
I was on a solo that began a year ago to find out about this man Fitzgerald and searching the web for hopeful signs that Rove would get frogmarched when I found FDL, I think through emptywheel’s posts about Plame on Kos back in the fall. Something about the asthetics of the original site, the photos, and the fact that jane hamsher has an expressive gift I’ve yet to define, captivated me. I quickly recognized the strength of ReddHedd and the unique commentary of the community.
Simply put, the people on this site have motivated me to act.
What do I love about this place?
Well, I came here for the Plame. In fact, my “Favorites” that I click on are still labeled “Treasongate Troika,” consisting of FDL, Needlenose, and emptywheel at Next Hurrah. But my actual habits are now just to go to FDL first, hang out, move through comments as time allows, then look over at C&L, Daily Kos, Gleen Greenwald, Raw Story, TPM. When time allows a much longer list.
But why FDL, FDL, and FDL?
As I said, I came for the Plame, but stayed for the NSA wiretapping, the Alito hearings, the Froomkin attacks, Li’l Debbie, the censure . . . but that still doesn’t explain it. I could, after all, find those elsewhere.
It’s the links, the analysis, the graphics, and the snark. Yup, that’s it:
FDL has superior analysis, links to great sources, unforgettable pics, and first class SNARK.
Oh, and then there are the commenters. I won’t even get started, but it has been a delight to find not only insight but some other lawyers (including Mary) who really get into it.
Jane, Christy, and the Comment Team. Good people all.
And I still need someone to tell me where the coathangeer with blood picture was. I need it for tomorrow’s class in Constitutional Law.
Ok, I know I’m late to this party but…
Re: FDL Breakfast – I’m a maybe. IF my VW can get to to Vegas, I can do the breakfast but the $125 to be able to see the Plame Panel is way beyond my budget (laid off twice so far this year and it’s only April!). Maybe is going to be based on the cost of gasoline for the round trip from SF Bay Area to Vegas. Being able to maybe sharing a room (I’m an old broad who smokes but I’m agreeable to not smoking in the room) let me know.
Breakfast: Caffine and nicotine, baby.
What I like about FDL: It makes me think and it inspires me in so many ways. I feel welcome here, felt welcome as a newbie, and have de-lurked more and more.
FDL reminds me that change of any kind requires courage.
Pachacutec 152: Thanks. I’ll look for it.
Breakfast: Vegetarian (hey, we’re lefties, aren’t we?)
Why FDL rocks: Jane and Christy are the smartest, rudest, hottest babes in the blogosphere!
Grandma J – Yes, I think I sensed that you are overcome with worry about your son and your grandchildren. They have been through so much, yet still have difficult times ahead. I am so glad that you got out today. Does the sun shine in Minnesota much this time of year? Isn’t it amazing how a sunny day can help, if only just a little bit?
When you quilt, do you ever do it with other people? You know, you need a support group now, just as your son does. A counselor would give you someone to talk to and also give you strategies to deal with all the worries. Please consider it.
It’s late in Ohio. I’ll look for you tomorrow night.
Hugs and prayers…..
the activism, the smackdowns, the rage that mirrors my own.
But hilariously funny. I just love you all.
FDL rocks. As many have expressed it’s the strong feminine presence and representation, and the strong men that are drawn here. Our soul group/soul family is doing an excellent job of standing up to speak out and take actions to improve the deplorable conditions we find our country is in.
We have an inner strength that manifests every single day on these pages that resonates with truth and justice, love and reverence, common sense and humor. FDL is the coolest blog on the net hands down.
Wait a minute! You didn’t bother to ask me why I can’t come to the breakfast? I’m poor, that’s why, otherwise I’d be there. Sheesh
Joe Wilson lurks at FDL? How cool! But of course he would, because y’all are the ultimate source for Plamegate info.
I can’t deal with the detail but I’m an old-timer, back from the days when Jane would post things that nobody commented on!!! She visited my blog first after I posted on echidne, started emailing me, we discovered that I’m in grad school at her alma mater, among several other coincidences/commonalities. I love Jane and feel proud of her success.
But I’ve got little kids and a busy schedule and cannot make Yearly Kos. Have a great time, y’all!
and Jane, when you visit the dear old College, let me know, okay? Heck if you ever have any time during a Bay area visit, give me a shout. I’d love to meet you.
I. Love. This. Place.
I wish I had Jane’s wit and style, and the compassion and legal analysis of of ReddHead, but at least I get to read them. I’d also like to thank FDL for fanning the flames of the worst crush I have had since junior high school. Who knew a federal prosecutor would become a sex symbol, anyway?
Jane–
I can’t seem to find an email for you. Things here in CT are hot, hot, hot. (Just ask Tom Swan).
We DumpJoe people want to send you the good stuff. Can you offer us up an email??
Luv your site. Kos, then C&L, then you! (before Atrios, Americablog, Josh Marshall, etc, etc.)
Twenty years from now I’ll still have the same strong feeling for ya! I love all that you do!

Liked the name. Real strong. Poetic. Contains that most sacred of animals, the dog.
Also passion, white hot desire for change and justice.
Also and perhaps the best: a sense of outrage at what has come to pass and a zeal to rebuild and rededicate the polity into a reimagined and perhaps for the first time, compassionate non warlike civil society.
FDL is my life-line to clear-thinking eg. sanity because I follow American politics everyday from Europe. And I find it hard to believe just how duped/stupid my fellow Americans are!!!!! Especially the ones still supporting bush!!!!!

Sorry, being that I currently reside in Germany (courtesy Red Cross and US military) I won’t be attending. But I would have been honored to answer your questionaire. Your’s is one of only a few sites (Daily Kos, C&L…) that are a daily MUST READ! One can not subsist on AFN and Stars & Stripes alone!

*blush* Very hot! *blush*

BEEF- IT’S WHAT’S FOR DINNER
I like the truth, the written word and smart debate and commentary and this is a great place to find all of that.
I like real patriots, they are here.
I like the distributed nature of the community (did it snow in WV, how big was the crowd in LA, pictures from Boston, etc.) and as was mentioned earlier, you’re open all day every day.
Pach has added an excellent new dimension with his threads.
Keep up the great work, this is the best community on the wild, wild, web.
I love: our sense of community; the wit, of both our hostesses and the commenters; that it feels like a salon (no, not that kind of salon) and one can always count on intelligent, wide-ranging conversations – yes, that’s conversations, folks, the kind where no one is screaming; the puns.
Pach, if there’s anything I can do to help you out, let me know.
#77 – what Immenentize sed. And…lox and bagels for brekky, please.
Good posts with little dreck, intelligent and logical arguments made with good humor. Suggest Banana Bread French Toast. Eat it and you’ll know why it’s capitalized.
Frequent updates.
Few trolls.
Intelligent comments.

I’m a newsaholic.
I’m addicted to FDL.
Ms. Redd and Ms. Jane. Enormously intelligent and gifted women who can be and are taken seriously. FDL leaves the rest in the dust.
I’m gonna drop this one right here – don’t want to interrupt the new Fitzy things this morning.
What I like about FDL – new friends. I posted yesterday wrt to having defended several molesting cases. I started by saying it might well be my last post, because I was fully expecting to be vilified, screamed at, not banned maybe, but certainly shunned. No one – no one – wants any part of a child being hurt, and while I most fervently hope I at the least never made anything worse than it already was, I can easily see where others might think that my mere involvement would inherently make it so. In my involvement is those cases, I would like to think that I performed as well, and as honorably, as I could.
As I was typing the post, however, a rather horrible deluge of issues, fractured memories, but mostly, emotions, came raining down, and I was a fuckin’ mess by the time I was through. A long difficult day yesterday, but when I checked back in this morning, I saw that there were no overt crticisms; in fact there were several warm, lovley messages that mean a lot to me – thank you to each of you who provided them. I’m deeply touched – this place feels like family – hell, my own family doesn’t know about those cases.
Two last things:
1) Beware of molesting charges which arise after a couple’s break-up. While it’s absolutely true that molesting cases often originate in the home, a molestation charge against after a break-up is often used as the ultimate act of revenge for perceived wrongs within the parental, or step-parental relationship. I had two such cases, which resulted in 3 full-blown juries (one of them hung the first time around). Most molestations are not reported – but some that *are* reported are merely twisted vengeance, with a child stuck in the middle.
2) I posted yesterday that in the one case where it became clear to me that I was representing a truly evil little fuck – I withdrew from the case just before trial. I was wrong to do that. I should have stayed with the case, tried it, won the case, and then felt awful, horrible, sick. I was hired to do the job, but when it looked ugly, I walked away. Thay’s not the way it’s supposed to work – I chicken-shitted my way out of it, and that was wrong. I’ll not get a do-over, but for what it’s worth….
Again, thank-you for those who provided kind words. I love this place.
How about miso soup, rice, and dried squid?
as Ray Davies (The Kinks) wrote:
Hatred, the only thing that keeps us together
Hatred the only thing that lasts forever
it’s worth a listen.
Miso soup? How about rice congee with all the condiments. Steamed cream buns for the kids. Heck make it dim sum. I’ll stop before I start to drool.

O.K. that’s a little disturbing. Any way to get site meter to make it exclusively for blog owners’ eyes only? I feel uncomfortable, espcially for those visiting from other countries.
I am constantly impressed and amazed at the intelligence and energy of FDL. It is a privilege in these terrifying times to have a place to go to learn and to be able to act. On behalf of the future of our children, thank you, FDL and all your blog sistern and brethren.
Intelligence and depth. Only started a month ago, but now a several time per day stop. Now can we have a vegie breakkfast burrito with habanero salsa?
jayt, I’m so very glad you dropped in today. I had wanted to ask if anyone knew about the prevalence of the revenge accusation (answered in your #1 there) because a good friend of mine booted his girlfriend out when he caught her in bed with another guy, and she immediately said he’d sexually abused their child. He spend a crapload of money to be able to continue visitations to no avail. There were no charges brought though which made me think it was all bogus. His comment, “All that money would have paid for a nice college education (for the kid).” And as far as I know, he’s never been seriously involved with another woman. Who can blame him?
Add NorskeFlamethrower and the weekend bird pictures.
And cbl, whose description of sitting on the porch waiting for the soylent green truck left me in stitches.
