(Tonight’s guest poster is Pam Spaulding from Pam’s House Blend. And over at The Great Society Matt O. is doing an amazing job of documenting all the LGF atrocities left in the comments.)
Hugh Hewitt on The Situation Room:
"No, that’s not right, because talk radio, when you look at Rush, at Sean, at myself, at Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved, Dennis Prager, we all conduct ourselves appropriately on the air, or the FCC will smack — smite — smack us down.—So, I think what we have got is basically a monopoly on responsible new media on the center-right side, and talk radio is responsible new media, even though that fever swamp on the left, the Michael Moore-disease-ridden Democrats on the left, they don’t want to admit that, so they won’t. But, in fact, talk radio is quite responsible."
The "fever swamp" isn’t on the left, Hugh, and Wolf, you let that one pass? There are plenty of easy targets that you could have pointed to, but that’s why Jane asked us to help you out, since perhaps you’re a bit too busy to notice the flaming pile of crap that exists out there on the right.

The racist, sexist bloviating Neal Boortz sounds like a font of responsibility when he tosses his hat into the ring with commentary like this, about Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA). These statements about her hairdo (which as far as most reasonable people can ascertain, has nothing to do with the facts of her run-in with the Capitol Hill police), sound quite responsible:
"She looks like a ghetto slut.""It looks like an explosion in a Brillo pad factory. It’s just hideous. To me, that hairstyle just shows contempt for — no, it’s not an Afro. I mean, no, it just shows contempt for the position that she holds."
"She looks like Tina Turner peeing on an electric fence."
I thought that the FCC might like to hear about this new level of responsible broadcasting from Mr. Boortz. It only took an avalanche of emails and phone calls to finally make him apologize for his verbal diarrhea on Monday. That’s a rare occasion on the right. You know, I kind of like that term swamp. I actually use it when referring to The Free Republic, that bastion of freedom, patriotism and mainstream conservative thought. I frequently turn to this desperate, filthy blogosphere underbelly of The Republican Base to find the level of responsibility that you declare exists only in the left’s fever swamp. Read friends, this statement by the founder of the Free Republic, Jim Robinson; he says he keeps his swamp tidy, clean and you’ll only see intellectually pure responsible conservative discourse.
We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc.
Remember Wolf, this is the Republican base. As Coretta Scott King was being laid to rest, the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery said this (Think Progress):
We know now there were no weapons of mass destruction over there. [Standing Ovation] But Coretta knew and we know that there are weapons of misdirection right down here. Millions without health insurance. Poverty abounds. For war billions more but no more for the poor.
The moment those words left Lowery’s lips, you knew it was only a matter of time before the Swift Boating would begin, and the responsible thoughts of the Freepi were released almost immediately.
Lowery : Blah Blah blah bash bash bash bull bull bull Dubya : What a maroon. Laura : Please let me kick his ass. Please OK – give it your best
"I would like another roll with dinner please."
"Two classy people sitting behind a pile of trash."
Colonel Sanders has been palling around with George Hamilton.
Lowery: And yesim, we’s be black and we’s be proud. We’s for the gubmit but not Bush’s gubmit. Bush’s gubmit is against us black peoples…
"psssst, look Laura, his trousers move when he’s talking out his arse."
"They’re running this funeral like a PLANTATION!!! And you KNOW what I’m talkin’ about!!!"

"Psst…Laura, you sure that ain’t Looter Guy?"Un-by-God-believable! These people have no shame at all! To take a funeral that was supposed to celebrate a life and turn it into a political hack job has got to the lowest act possible. I hope that black america sees this and knows just how disgusting their leaders are.
Wolf, what did you think about the 500,000 people who recently marched in L.A. over Fed immigration legislation? Did you know that I found some stimulating, responsible discussion in Freeperland that you might like brought to your attention.
Actual Freeper Quotes™Encircle the rally. Move the herd back to Mexico.
One thing about being packed in like that in a crowd, ya never know what kind of communicable diseases you are exposing yourself too.
Boy that’s alot of American jobs, food stamps, welfare, housing, while their pay goes to mexico.
It’s officially an invasion now. They’re getting snippy.
If Americans can’t see that we are being invaded, they’re either blind or don’t care anymore.
They weren’t rallying for immigrant rights. They were rallying in favor of anarchy.
They don’t vote. It doesn’t matter if 100 million showed up they don’t vote. they are not citizens they don’t vote. It doesn’t matter. And there are a lot more than those that want reform.
dont be so confident they dont vote
Today we walked out of a restaurant after a non-speaking illegal came to our table before we did we all told the manager we will NOT be back till all illegals are GONE out of this restaurant!
We called our lawn service and told them they better not dare send any illegals to work on our lawn.
We called a foundation company and told them we better not see any illegals working on our foundation or they are so out of here.
Americans need to take a stand and if you go to a hotel and you see a non english speaking person cleaning your room callthe manager and front desk and have them remove the person immediately.
Take a stand, boycott all mexican destinations like cozymel.
Sexual deviants would love for us to become part of Mexico. That way they can watch donkey sex shows and sleep with 12 year old prostitutes.

But why stop there, I can take you over to Jonah Goldberg’s slice o’ mommy heaven, Lucianne.com, where we can peruse the wisdom, the reasonable take on immigration from the right:
Close the borders
Round up the ones that are already here
Check to see if any of them speak English
Separate them from non-speaking English
If the English-speaking ones have no criminal records, if they have been here for a good couple of years, keep them and send the rest back.Always remember #1…they are here illegally & are criminals.
Cowardly politcians are elected by cowardly people who didn’t do what they should have done at the ballot box. RINO’s are always attacked for listening to what their constituents want instead of what those who didn’t vote for them want. Senator Dole tried to establish an English only amendement and received virtually no support from the populace when it might have had a chance of passing. Tancredo’s firm stance has helps him get reelected by his constituency who faces the problem of illegals daily. As long as it didn’t reach some neighborhoods, too many people just looked the other way while gains were made. Quit blaming only politicians and business and look at what a submissive public allowed to happen. They made the mess and are now grumbling because there is no instantaneous solution.
Perhaps all of this is true. I doubt it, but perhaps. There ARE some things we can do, and do now.
– resurrect the English-only legislation/Amendment. NO ballots (except Braille) in any language but English. NO bi-lingual education anywhere. English immersion (and yes, it works).
– any illegal found here is deported IMMEDIATELY. As in, the very same day, out of the country within 12 hours of apprehension. We can have hearing officers working the night shift. And, we bill the nation of origin for every penny associated with the case. Be creative and employ nasty bill collectors.
— anyone found here illegally can NEVER apply for citizenship or lawful status. We don’t want lawbreakers here.
— immediate federal legislation defining the 14th Amendment along its original lines, which were not intended to grant immediate citizenship to children of invaders.
– build the wall
– ban the Mexican flag
– tell Mexico to shut up and butt out.Move to a consumption tax and these suckers would be paying for their illegal activities while not reaping the benefits.
Any "plan" that leaves thousands of illegal aliens in our prison system while we pay for them is not a plan. They all need to be deported.
Aaiiii!!! YOU’VE BEEN HIT BY THE

The only solution is a wall, followed by stiff enforcement. It may take twenty years to have every illegal alien self-deport, but that’s a change in the right direction.
And, I hate to tell you, but the 14th Amendment has been *interpreted by judicial activists* to grant birthright citizenship to the children born of invaders. That was by no means the original intent, and in fact the legislative history of the debates makes it clear that such was specifically not intended. In other words, it would appear that part of the issue is an outgrowth of our long plague of worthless judges. Claiming birthright citizenship for the children of illegals is much like the guy who stole your car claiming that since he’s in it, it must be his, and in fact has always been his.
So Wolf, I hope that this little primer on the fever swamp on the other side of town helps you out the next time you have a winger guest on the air who tries to pull a Hugh on you.

About Firedoglake
Pam thanks for this post I love it, it made me laugh out loud.
And please visit Matt over at The Great Society, he’s been collecting all the LGF quotes people have been finding (and the hunt is still on, BTW.) It is quite a vision, let me tell you.
PS Pam congratulations on backing down that bastard Boortz, that’s a service to the human race.
yay! a cuppa Pam’s finest! going back to read post now, oh and Fitz!
classic Pam, just great….you’ve been donning the hipboots and wading into the right wing swill longer than anybody….
Rubber Stamps! Thanks for a really great post, Pam!
Thanks for the link Jane.
I have also found a couple racist comments from Charles Johnson himself. Not sure if that goes against anything he may have said in public before…
Also, over time, I hope to have a page for Red State and the Freepers (Pam knocked that one out of the park!).
I’ll keep you guest posted.
Thanks again Jane!
Pam, great FDL debut. When I get on those winger sites I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Pam — welcome. That picture of Laura Bush at Mrs. King’s funeral gives me the willies. That look on her face is so…I dunno, but it’s something. Brrrrrr….ice queen doesn’t come close as a description, does it? You have a stronger stomach than I do to dig through all this crap. Great to see you here!
Studs Terkel is on TDS and he said the escense of being an American according to Tom Paine is to be able to tell the President to BUGGER OFF !
Oh that birthed-Jonah person is quite vile. Towel, please.
May I just add that I love the fact that you doubly posted the most egregious (sorry, egregious) picture of the Krawford Kidz that makes my skin crawl– every merikun should study that wunnerful example of diplomatic manners.
Hey Pam. Man, that was some ugly stuff over at Great Society.
Anyone remember this gem from Neal Boortz, back a few months ago:
An October 13 New York Daily News article spurred Boortz’s comments. The front-page story, headlined “Rich Got Terror Tip,” reported that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has launched an investigation into whether its officials alerted certain New Yorkers of a terror threat to the city’s subway days before the rest of the city learned of the possible plot. According to the article, the probe was launched after the discovery of two emails describing the bombing plot that “had been sent early last week to a select crowd of business and arts executives by New Yorkers who claimed to have close connections to Homeland Security.”
After summarizing the story, Boortz responded, “This is as it should be.” He went on to imagine a scenario in which the country is forced to “set some priorities” regarding who will be notified of an impending disaster. “We should save the rich people first,” Boortz declared. “You know, they’re the ones that are responsible for this prosperity.” Boortz described the poorest Americans as “a drag on society” and stated that they “don’t achieve squat. They sit around all the time waiting for somebody else to take care of them. They have children they can’t afford. They’re uneducated. They can barely read.”
Maybe it’s not explicitly racist (although we know who he means), but it’s hateful. And it’s in audio version, too. Ugh.
Boortz, via Pam’s own site: ‘So far as I’ve heard there has not been one “I’m sorry.”‘
I did a search on his statement, Pam, and he’s correct. Never does he say “I’m sorry.” Closest he gets is an apology to his listeners: Sorry I let you down. How can he write that McKinney has’t said “I’m sorry” when his statement doesn’t mention the words?
I didn’t hear the show, so I don’t know what he said on the air.
My jaw just hangs open when I read this stuff. Pam, the George and Laura picture is just chilling when followed by the text. And I did go over to Matt O’s site–what bile. The level of hatred, JMJ! Even with a screen name, how can anyone post such vitriol?
Can we go back to talking about DeLay? I am not too thrilled he’s moving here in VA. Talk about sulfur–it’s wafting toward Richmond.
TeddySanFran:
Being rethuglican means never having to say you’re sorry.
Yay, Pam! You are very brave to go to those awful websites and collect these speciments. I hope you’re using proper protection. You never know what kind of communicable diseases you might get running with a crowd like that.
WOW! Hiya, Pam. Nice work!
AAHH !!, Just came back wanting to share my I Heart Jack Cafferty high, and wtf, this Chamber of Horrors, Ghouls and Grotesques, and Ol ‘Frontlines’ Hewitt staring back at me -?!?!? make it stop, make it stop. Sensei would not approve, but all I want to do when I see that face is shove my heel in to that chin and . . .
Sorry, thanks for joining us Pam. I too extend my thanks for your wading so deep and bravely in to those swamps for us.
Welcome to FDL, Pam, and a wonderful guest post it is. I know many of us are having a hard time participating in a contest that exposes us to the words that reflect such ignorance and hate, but I think it is worth it if we can alter the ridiculous support it receives from the Corporate Media Republican Shills. I am frankly tired of having to read our comments section when we become so frustrated and exhausted from swatting at flies instead of using Raid (not that we would do that, bad for the ozone). This is an example of hard work bringing just rewards. Rubber stamps are easier, but this is hate speech and has to be dealt with by those who recognize it. There is no hope for self-policing here.
off topic – sorry:
this is why you don’t reveal identities of covert agents:

Mr. Rove, are you listening?
I’m sorry, I don’t fucking get it…
Homeland official arrested in online sex sting
Agency’s deputy press secretary held for soliciting for a child on Internet
MIAMI (AP) – The deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said.
Brian J. Doyle, 55, was arrested at his residence in Maryland on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.
Doyle, of Silver Spring, Md., had a sexually explicit conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl whose profile he saw on the Internet on March 14, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement…

That is friggin’ weird.
Like Alberto Tomba, I “want a Woooo-man to make me feel gooood…” one who’s been lived in for a good while. Minimally 40+. (not that I’m trollin’ — WAY too tired –, but were I, it’d be 40+)
I don’t understand these cats.
Enjoy the joint, asswipe. Two cohorts the cons hate most are pedos and traitors.
Angie–actually I like it when people use the word egregious. That’s why I chose this nom de plume, to get people to use it more often.
Seriously, I worry about what kind of awful little cookies their sites might put on my computer. I admire y’all so much who go where angels fear to tread. It’s horrid, stinky, badness. Thanks for hunting and gathering for us, the fainthearted flowers.
Crap. Damn typos. I mean to type specimens and I meant to type sentiments, and it came out speciments.
If I was a right wing moron, I would claim it in the name of “neologism”, but no, it’s just typing in a hurry.
Race baiting Treasury looting Jesus pimps. Revoke their “Family Values” cards. Whatta buncha slimey creeps. My eyeballs need to be bleached out.
Props to Terp women. This is why I don’t bet on sports. I’d be broke.
the republicans are using their hour in the house on cspan to race bait. disgusting.
Just tried to click on the link for Pam’s House Blend at the top of this post and it took me to a WordPress LogIn site for FDL admin.
Jesse Jackson on Colbert saying NO people should have the right to vote and return!
Don’t normally trumpet him but yeah!
Thanks, Suzanne, fixed.
Campaign Turns Into Reed’s Nightmare
Ralph Reed is going to own this room. Granted, it’s only a standard-issue campus auditorium at Emory University, half-filled at best for the annual Georgia College Republicans convention. But to the former boy wonder of evangelical politics, it looks like heavenly shelter on this drizzly February morning. The Christian Coalition co-founder’s first campaign for public office — lieutenant governor of Georgia, a position Reed and his fans envision as a stepping stone to bigger things — has turned into a waking nightmare.
Every week brings a new revelation about the millions in dirty money Reed earned by duping his fellow evangelicals into putting their political muscle behind “Casino Jack” Abramoff’s gambling clients. Reed’s huge leads in both popularity polls and fundraising have almost disappeared. Instead of making his triumphant debut as a politician, the man Time magazine called “The Right Hand of God” is fast becoming the new poster boy for Christian-right corruption.

Buckley Calls Clinton a Contender to Be President (Update1)
By Heidi Przybyla and Judy Woodruff
April 3 (Bloomberg) — William F. Buckley Jr., the longtime conservative writer and leader, said that while a strong Republican candidate for the 2008 presidential race has yet to emerge, the Democrats have in Senator Hillary Clinton a true contender to become the first woman elected U.S. president.
“I don’t find a commanding presence sort of knocking on the door” for the next presidential campaign, Buckley said in an interview broadcast today on Bloomberg Television.
Clinton, of New York, is “a very consequential woman with an extraordinary background,” he said. “Her thought is kind of woozy left, not in my judgment threatening.”
She is “a phenomenon, a woman candidate who might easily be president,” Buckley said…
You are welcome, Jane. Glad to be of service. Your blog has really become an inspiration to many.
Pam is incomparably cool, go check out her wedding at her blog if you want to be proud of what’s left of the march of the Enlightenment.
The reason I loved the movie V for Vendetta was because it cut through the crap, the lines were clearly drawn. Every day the fascisti of our once-America world push further and further their viciousness and hatred and eliminationism, and we see their reptile-brain power grow and grow through bought media and refined PR techniquehood, and still we try to answer this creepshow horror with rational argument, i.e. if only we could shape and refine our rational argument better and finally really right. No. Not possible. They’ve got fear and fear trumps all and they play it like Itzhak Perlman.
They’ve also got bullying, election 2k. Belittling, election 04.
Good arguments won’t stop these people. Something more forceful will eventually be required.
“Good arguments won’t stop these people. Something more forceful will eventually be required.”
I am ready to step up. Count on it.
I second that Suzanne.
Read this and weep:

===to the end:
This will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, “My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim’s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.” And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania! Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado! Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California! But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia! Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.
When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

Visited Great Society and re: the latest R sex scandal found that Democracy for Memphis keeps a site they call Republican Neverland Ranch. The name speaks for itself, but it’s much longer than I realized. I think it’s so ironic that there are hearings happening on just this subject; do the R’s think that will give them a firewall against the outrage? Just so disturbing.

Kerry calls for a immediate deadline and pullout from Iraq
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04…..mp;oref=sl ogin
WE are now in the third war in Iraq in as many years. The first was against Saddam Hussein and his supposed weapons of mass destruction. The second was against terrorists whom, the administration said, it was better to fight over there than here. Now we find our troops in the middle of an escalating civil war.
Half of the service members listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall died after America’s leaders knew our strategy would not work. It was immoral then and it would be immoral now to engage in the same delusion. We want democracy in Iraq, but Iraqis must want it as much as we do. Our valiant soldiers can’t bring democracy to Iraq if Iraq’s leaders are unwilling themselves to make the compromises that democracy requires.
As our generals have said, the war cannot be won militarily. It must be won politically. No American soldier should be sacrificed because Iraqi politicians refuse to resolve their ethnic and political differences.
So far, Iraqi leaders have responded only to deadlines — a deadline to transfer authority to a provisional government, and a deadline to hold three elections.
Now we must set another deadline to extricate our troops and get Iraq up on its own two feet.
I wrote about it and would appreciate the read and comments.

Good evening all.. and Jane, may I call you Queen bee? Josh is still a bit stung, I think.
egregious, i am happy you do not take exception to my use of your nom de plume, especially in these days when we have so much to be aware of. I am so angry at the fact that the Krawford Kidz showed up at Mrs. King’s funeral and acted that way. Harry Belafonte, who marched with those heroic people, was not present at the funeral of his friend and sister because they decided to have a photo- op and they did it so badly that I still flinch. Harry was there to take care of Mrs. King and the children after MLK was assassinated– he arranged the funeral and also comforted the family and made Coretta’s speech (that Dr. King was to have delivered) happened right after he died. The Kidz disrespected the entire ceremony, IMHO.
happen not happened. sheesh.
Marky @41,
Do you have a link to that Queen Bee stuff? I couldn’t find it…
The link to the thread on Lucianne.com is now showing this:
Are they scrubbing the website of the offending material already?
Welcome, Pam.
Great work.
Wish I could join in the hunting again tonight, but I’m just beat tired and soon to crash.
Great stuff on the rubber stamps, and there’s more to come.
You guys rock.
Well, I guess that a re-read of MLK’s I have a dream speech hasn’t had the same effect on ya’ll as it did on me. Still in tears. G’nite all.
zenn, can’t even get near this crap, too wearied of it all to even begin to deal.
all I know is you and your awesomeness. fuck all the rest of the false bullshit.
Pam, thank you. You’re a braver woman than I.

For Valley Girl from last thread:
Popular DVDs often have French language tracks and captions. Don’t know why this is but the dubbing and the captions are never the same.
Renaud-Bray is a good bookstore in Canada. Prices are cheaper than in France and are in Canadian dollars so less than they look. There is an exchange rate feature too. Regular mail takes at least a couple of weeks if you’re not in a hurry.
The French version home is here:
http://www.renaud-bray.com/fra…..on=Accueil
An English version is available and this takes you to their subject list page (Hint: look for books + audio document for books on tape/CD or just type in a title you might be interested in.):

Oh, and in the South of France, the accent is different. R’s are rolled and e muets are pronounced. It’s not as twangy as Quebecois but noticeably different than North French. Northerners tend to say the Southerners are open but shallow while they are deep and distant. People always say these things.
For the person who asked , here is the Queen Bee link.

Hi, all, thanks for the kind comments; I just finished sanitizing my keyboard after wading through that filth!
I’m sorry I missed the rubber-stamping on C-SPAN, can’t wait for the video. Reminiscent of a saying the Dean campaign — “you know you’re a Deaniac when you can remember the channel number for C-SPAN without thinking about it.”
Valley Girl, what a nice thing to say, thank you very dearly.
I know it’s nasty stuff, but needs to see the light of day. I am not surprised that goldberg scrubbed. It is just a matter of time until they all do, but that’s important because the word is getting out that the reputation of right-wing political discourse is under a looking glass. Takes just a couple of significant mentions by Corp media to spread it to the rest of the press. The letters Salazar has received are just drops in the ocean, so maybe it’s a start. Do we think it might help to do a letter campaign about it? That wouldn’t be too hard, between us, Pam, Atrios and Great Society, could make an impact.. Well, that’s after the RUBBER STAMP EVENT ends, but maybe letters to Wolfie’s corporate masters and sponsors, or not, because that might hurt the incomparable Cafferty. I’d like to think we could somehow get Hewitt gone for good.
I’m going to bed soon, even though I slept much of the day. Didn’t get on till late, and what an exciting evening!
PS, love that we’ve gone back to numbered comments althoug while proofreading, I just tried to insert a word in the preview area, couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work!
Guess I’m sleepy after all.
ZZZZZzzzzzzen
Pam, but your eyes! What do you do for them? They must burn.
Watching the Olbermann replay. Someone should tell Keith he’s not doing a sports show. Too much baseball. Too much steroids. Not enough on the ongoing criminal fascist takeover of our country, although I give him credit for running stories that nobody else has the guts to run. Please, just give steroids a rest.
Pam I think you got a scalp. Lucianne seems to have scrubbed her page. Is that what Red State means when they say we won’t find any bigot comments in the right-wing blogosphere?
ok, so I made my late night stop at dependable renegade and what does watertiger have for me?
Buh-Bye, Tom!
love that girl.
The scrubbing itself is a story.
When was the last time you ever heard of a page being scrubbed in our side of the blogosphere?
We nuke hate comments because they don’t represent us, and when they surface, they virtually all come from visitors from the right wing.
Lucianne, ever heard of Google cache?
You should see the prescription for my glasses. I’m as blind as a bat from this work. ;)
sorry, but this is just too funny, file under DeLay, source of photo at 59 with the story of the owner of the trashcan.
Just keep reading, giggle. Molly’s evil twin.
BTW, the Google cache to that Lucianne pot of filth is here.
To all you Dr. Who fans out there.
Last August I went with my mother to Ottawa. We stayed at the Chateau Laurier which is next to the Parliament Buildings. Around the corner is the American Embassy.
Out in front of the Embassy are light fixtures that look just like Daleks. I kid you not! I was tempted to get a picture, but was afraid to do so, seeing that it is a post 9/11 world and all. The Embassy was scary it was so seriously fortified, but those Dalek guards creeped me right out.
I’m sorry I missed the rubber-stamping on C-SPAN
Me too — but what I remember that still pisses me off is the Daschle Democrats response to the 2001 Bush Welfare for the Rich Tax Cuts was a photo-op:
The Lexus and the Muffler.
I repeat –
The Lexus and the Muffler.
Meanwhile, Bush was selling his snake oil with the slogan:
It’s Your Money!!!
Which slogan has resonance? Which one is a dud? Guess who won?
The best the Beltway Dems could do was the Lexus and the Muffler? It’s no wonder Tom Daschle declared victory after having his head handed to him.
Which is Why — the FDL Rubber Stamp Republicans Citizen Action Guerrilla Theater is showing the DC Dems how this game is played.
Go, TEAM!!! GO, FIGHT, WIN!!!

LGF uses a filter that changes racist words like “raghead” to “Arab.” It started sometime in late 2005, that I have been able to determine.
The racist words stick around in the search results but when you go to the comment itself, the word is changed.
While it is handy, I find it misleading because they can deny the use of racial slurs and not feel compelled to ban offenders. If anybody posted racial slurs on my blog in anything but denunciation, the whole comment would be deleted and I would most certain ban the person.
But on LGF, they just change the wording automatically and all is forgiven, so rabid racists can hang around and play still. They may not share the same racist views (though I have evidence that says otherwise), they certain are a safe haven for racist sentiment and one could even argue they facilitate it by not banning such people.
Matt O, imo that is a huge find by you. That’s an example of institutionalized racism, or as I prefer to call it, institutionalized white supremacy. It shows purposefullness, intent, and effort to sanitize and enable hate speech.
Nice find, Pam.
They can run but they can’t hide.

http://www.brazosriver.com/index.html
I had no idea what people meant by the “Queen Bee” post, so followed the link above. And there’s Trevino–I hope he’s banned permanently from FDL. In walled-up world, posters claim that Democrats are racist because they use the “race card” to attract minorities who then vote against their own interests. WTF? Even when you think that’s the end of the bullshit, there’s a reserve tank of it in the basement of their brains.
Casp (I like using nicknames, plus I never met a Casper-anything in my life; it’s an awesome name):
I am trying to be careful on the whole LGF “whitewash” thing. I can understand why to use a filter, especially when your blog starts to take off and you get a lot of people so I do not want to flat out accuse them of “whitewashing” but speculation is definitely in order.
The search warranted 619 returns, some of which were people quoting what someone said – but not many. That was just one word. The n-word comes back with like 500-something, though I only did the search, haven’t investigated much on it yet, not done with the r-word.
What really bugs me about it, is that people who made an issue of their inability to use the r-word were not banned. In fact, once, someone told them how to get around the filter (with a warning attached, but told him how nonetheless). I think that is the biggest problem. The lack of banning the repeat offenders, especially ones that complain about not being able to be racist.
Wading into the sphere of wingnuttia is typically disgusting, but it serves a purpose as is being made known here. I haven’t heard much mention about identifying websites where posters with diverse and strong opposing views duke it out in generally civil terms as another front to hit for active messaging in this unstable gooper climate. Ones I’ve noticed involve something that unites people outside of politics like schools with an affiliated website and an online sports fanbase, usually having forums that also include politics. It seems like identifying some of the biggest ones in targeted states could be useful to identify. I haven’t looked much, but suspect it is significant. One I know of affiliated with Texas gets a lot of traffic. I found this thread regarding Libby motions about Fitz’s appointment being unconstitutional. I’m not a lawyer, but several of the posters appear to be. Looks ripe for some visitor smackdowns. hornfans

Talkingpointsmemmo has story on DeLay. According to this, the amazing newsflash is that he is still Tom DeLay: timed is resignation to maximize chance of coldcocking the uppity GOP mealworms who dared challange him in the primary. Plans to win primary, local GOP names some DeLay tool to be elected. Maybe DeLay will try to run things from a jail cell, if things keep going the way they have.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.c…..008119.php
Not that running a political machine from jail is so bad. The man of the people and great hizzoner of Boston James Curley did that for a few months. Hate the sin, not the sinner, I say. Speaking of which, Digby should be read tonight, the political wing of the militant Christian right is gearing up for battle. Tom DeLay will be a martyr, whether Jesus likes the idea or not.
From other sources (I can’t find now) he want TX GOP to throw his prosecutor Earle out of office.
If DeLay becomes a preacher man he will be a dang unrepentant and darn mean one (sort of like a Jimmy Swaggart going in reverse: do the crime first and then get really mean on TV.) People should remember these tidbits when the “poor percsecuted Tom” stories make their rounds.
As a theologically and politically liberal Christian, I wish that the DeLay variety were merely a “second rate superstition” my opinion is that the political wing of it is something worse -a cult and con. That may sound somewhat unChristian and uncharitable, but it is my honest opinion. (BTW, it was DeLay who accused all non-Bushites of trying to turn something he calls “Christianity” into a second rate superstition)

However long it takes and however hard it is, we must win, and in the end, the only way to beat them…is to beat them. Is to render them electorally radioactive and, ultimately, culturally extinct.
They must be taken on head-on, and their squirmy fellow-travelers — those Moderate Republicans who live off the cream, and are only along for the ride ‘cause the Children of the Corn promised not to touch their guns, raise their taxes or make them personally risk their tender assflesh killing brown people in faraway lands to keep their pump prices low — must be dragged out into bright light and verbally scourged at every opportunity.
Yes, without a bankroll that’d choke an Abramoff, or a private army, or relatives in the White House, there are lots of things that the average citizen can’t do, but this it something we can do.
Every time they hit the lever for a candidate with an (R) in front of their name — every time they run as a candidate with an (R) in front of their name — we need to be demanding to know why they side with American Wahabi against their own nation and Founders.
And if they refuse to answer, we need to Shout Louder.

Third: NBC is trying to paint muslims as victims. Anyone here remember 9-11, the Cole, the African embassies, the burning of Paris, the Muhamhead cartoon riots, the islamic call that calls for our conversion, death or dhimmitued? I could go on but the rational humans get the point.
If you democraps want to defend a so called religion that was founded by a common thief, pedophile, terrorist, go for it. Then while you are at it how about defending the koran called for murder of anyone (including a husband’s wife) who leaves islam!
The word is Dhimmitude and it is part of Sharia law. If you don’t know a surah from a hadith then don’t bother replying.
NASCAR aside, the rest of us have had it with the muslim killers for the desert moon god allah, with its 3,000 victims in one day alone.
And you are pathetic enough to call the people that despise the followers of this killer cult rednecks? How stupid can you be.
Today’s NBC would have done a show during WWII painting Nazis as victims.

April 4th, 2006 at 11:27 pm: thanks for link to USA Today story.
The paragraph below caught my eye:
“Political scientist Alan Abramowitz of Emory University in Atlanta has run two political models for 2006. In one, using such national political conditions as public unease about the country’s direction, Democrats gain 33 seats. In a second, which includes more “micro” factors such as the number of open seats, they pick up just eight seats.”
One should be a little skeptical of these politcal models, but they are better than nothing, and some of them work pretty well.
Anyway, says I (mounting my favorite hobby horse), with uncertainty as large as indicated by that model, is it wise for Dems to sit back and let those horrible unspeakable ghastly incumbant GOPers do all the work between now and election day to unseat themselves via serial outrages to the public conscience? I thought not. Well, OK, me preacher, and most readers here choir. But then at least point out the paragraph above to your more cautious political friends.

Paraphrasing Dr. Abramowitz, ET says:
“In one, using such national political conditions as public unease about the country’s direction, and the continuing pressure from state-level election authorities to allow new voting machines to contain computer code which is propietary and therefore beyond scrutiny, Democrats lose 10 seats.”
It has been brought to my attention, and I should also note because I failed to notice this myself, but the LGF staff posts below every post that they are “open and unmoderated.”
However, as I have written about, they use an automatic comment editor that changes words to less offensive words. Fine, but it is completely misleading to post a disclaimer that they are “open and unmoderated.”
Additionally, several posts have been deleted, as evidenced at the LGF thread on Jill Carroll’s release, a post in which comments were cited here and at C&L that included:
That comment was deleted, among others.
Responsible? Try misleading.
OK, ET, why haven’t you gotten on board my brilliant plan to put slot machines in the voting booths next election? They got lots better security than regular voting machines. Let’s see you get on board that idea. Then we can have cash prizes for voting, claiming the best return rate on the Strip, and put some odds on them Dem pickup/loss numbers.
wesgpc — nice quote.
Very good find, Matt O. I guess some reactionary Bush acolytes can run blogs no better than Bush can run a country. It will be interesting if these blogs are faking up their comment policies. Dishonesty, bad faith and incompetence would not surprise me. That might be a more important finding than many of the very offensive comments themselves.

She’s the music department head and an incredible jazz artist. We’re splitting her many duties. I’ve taken over jazz history – small, casual (duh) class, meets 2x per week.
Somehow, I fell a bit out of love with jazz about eight years ago. But having to go through a lot of material – at least five hours of prep for each hour I’m teaching -I’m starting to fall back in love.
Can’t believe the rough job anyone writing a text about jazz history has! They must know it though. The categories are so indistinct. But, hey, that’s more than a bit of what jazz was always intended to be.

Also, as an update, I put together a page on the LGF lunacy over the Jill Carroll situation, and those two posts are used there. This was brought to my attention by a reader.
No THAT was a strong cup of coffee –Excellent, Pam
Good morning all. This post is of the quality Jane and Christy produce daily — thanks for sharing your home with Pam.
(Not to be too critical, but it is a far superior product to last night’s rather rambling affair on sports figures)
I wrote a comment about Matt O yesterday? When holoscan was acting up –
Would it be possible to do a week on sexist comments? The low hanging fruit is just so damn pickable on that issue. And , deeply, sadly, unfortunately — pointing out sexism is probably easier to understand for the Wolfies-of-the-media than racism, which he doesn’t seem to get or care about.
LESLIE, not wolf. He named himself wolf because his parents gave him a girl’s name.
My weekly dear hack letters always address him by his given name.
PS after reading all the comments, I am getting a bit confused about one issue:
Is there value to deleting comments/ Matt O. has been great in assembling comments, but if LGF is actually taking out really offensive comments, isn’t that a positive thing — both a recognition of the offensiveness/wrongness of the post and a responsible response?
Not “open and unmoderated” but pretty much what happens here at FDL. Just another example, if you went through Atrios’ comments, you would find one or two scorchers. Many from trolls, some not, but all in the “Atrios Community”
So, insofar as LGF took out those comments — good for them. And if they took them out because they knew we were picking up examples –
Good for us.

I agree with that much of those posts.
But I’m guessing my notion of cowardly politicians – ones who use the constitution for TP and retroactively legalize crimes to suit their purposes – doesn’t quite match theirs.
I have to say, though, that Hugh Hewitt’s quite heroic. I mean tempting fate by going to your plush office in the Empire State Building is exactly the same as watching the guy next to you get sniped as you patrol Baghdad.

HST once said, referring to George Wallace, that the senator understood there are just as many bigots north of the Mason-Dixon line as below. Right-wing talkers have recognized that fact and have made millions by speaking to that audience. Some people have no qualms about selling their souls if the price is right. If I didn’t detest these idiots so much I’d almost feel sorry for them.
BTW, today Clusterfuck will be appearing about 4 miles from my house. Traffic will be a nightmare for most of the day, all because he wants to discuss health care issues in a city at voted 76% against him in the last election. Is this guy an idiot or what?
Going around to websites and programs of ultraconservative racebaiters and other nasty avenues for diverting attention from the soaring cost of fuel and the abomination we broughtto Iraq isn’t as satifying as going around my yard picking up dog turds.
How long can I ignore them, before the need to remove them overwhelms?

Ms. Landrieu, you along with the Democratic memebers of the Gang of 14, headed by Joementum himself, have been totally punked and played.
On the CAlito Cloture vote, she voted to allow Alito to be voted on by the full Republican Controlled Senate, for cloture. She also was one of the Gang of 14 in the Nuclear Option fiasco with Frist. She apparently hoped that the BushCo administration would keep their word about levees.
Silly Mary….have you learned yet?
Also check out the editorial/opinion pages in newspapers. Some of the ‘cartoons’ in Investors Business Daily are right out of Wingnutistan. Today is one on McKinney: black woman wearing a lapel pin with a warning saying something like ‘Arrogant Liberal Approaching’ [I don’t remember the exact wording].
Here’s quite the example of a nuanced, thoughtful, right-wing blog. Cynthia McKinney and Buckwheat. Sheesh.

“Today we walked out of a restaurant after a non-speaking illegal came to our table before we did we all told the manager we will NOT be back till all illegals are GONE out of this restaurant!”
This comment has a good point, though the commenter probably didn’t mean it that way or even understand what he was saying. But instead of focusing on criminalizing the aliens, who only come for jobs. Criminalize the employers who give American jobs to illegals. I say there are no jobs Americans won’t do if they get a decent living wage. Look at the coal miners of West Virginia. I have literally “shovelled shit” in my day.
immanentize #121
I agree, deleting is good. As I have said before, I would do the same. But personally, I would have banned these racist loons, not just “muzzle” them to save face.
Why are these people allowed to continue to comment after saying such vile things? Especially the goons that complained that their racial slurs were automatically edited out.
Real “responsible” community leaders would cut out people that repeatedly and openly use racial epithets. Charles Johnson says the comments do not reflect the views of LGF – fine. But in my analysis, if LGF is not racist itself, it most certainly provides the forum for which these idiots spew their hatred without consequence.
If you read posts and comments, it is very pro-Israeli/anti-Arab. Fine, whatever, to each their own. My qualm is how it is conducted.
Charles Johnson and company go crazy when someone says something racist about Jews/Israelis, they are banned and/or shouted down. Good, I would do the same. But when it comes to Arabs/Muslims, they are fair game. For years, there was no filter, in fact, CJ banned people (who he believed were all using AOL accounts) for anti-Isareli comments long before he instituted the filter that changed “raghead” to “Arab.” So I ask, why did he not go after people that used slurs for Arabs/Muslims? I think it goes to who the epithet is directed at. Additionally, LGF will cover their rear to protect their racist buddies and have plausible deniability of charges of racism.
My effort in the Expose the Right campaign is to show how Hugh Hewitt was so incredibly wrong on his assessment that right-wing blogs and talk radio are “quite responsible.”
I, among many here, believe otherwise.
I can’t speak for nobody (wah?), but I decided to stop collecting links after being concern-trolled by an FDL regular in the previous Wolfie thread. Don’t want to trample anyone’s tender sensibilities, and don’t much like being accused of voyeurism.
But this morning I thought, fuck ‘em. Like Socrates said:
The answer is obvious to anyone who knows racism actually exists, even in America.
Following Pam Spaulding’s lead, I went to Lucianne Goldberg’s place.

Lucianne doesn’t keep real archives, so the quotes come courtesy of Google.
Jonah Golberg’s LA Times article ‘Failing their own’ was the inspiration for the following comments by bloggers at Momma Goldberg’s website. In the article, Jonah points to problems in the Black community and blames them on Black politicians.
