UPDATE #2Jeralyn has some fantastic information about the bill in question -- and says that debate on it will resume on Monday.

CNN is reporting that Los Angeles is bracing for an enormous protest of the Bush Administration's proposal for changes in immigration policy and of the Congressional-sponsored Sensenbrenner Bill.

CNN has footage of a similar protest yesterday in Phoenix, Arizona, where thousands of people took to the streets in protest of the proposed law.

In Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, police said 20,000 demonstrators marched to the office of Republican Sen. Jon Kyl, co-sponsor of a bill that would give illegal immigrants up to five years to leave the country, The Associated Press reported. The turnout clogged major thoroughfares in what officials said was one of the largest protests in the city's history. People also protested outside Kyl's Tucson office, according to AP.

Similar protests also occurred around the nation yesterday, in Georgia, California and elsewhere, according to the AP via CNNThe NYTimes has more, as does the Voice of America.

The LA Times reports on yesterday's local protests, but no update as yet on the current large event in LA.  Will update as I get news.
