Gentleman Jim,
Ayup. The King’s men were more civil than Bush&Co too.
I tend to think that the role of the tavern/inn/pub is wildly underestimated in the role of the American Revolution.
Lay down your arms, ye rebels, ye traitors, ye villains! Cease fire & stop for another drink.
Sho here’s to drinking liberally. After 5pm, of course.

O.K. Not having any success posting here. Let’s try this again.

Inkswitch, on behalf of all CT citizens like myself, I apologize to Texas citizens like yourself. I always wondered, since the Bush family is actually originally from CT, in between what prepschools in his crucial formative years, G.W. actually became a Texas man. MyLeftNutmeg has a picture with a roadsign: CT, birth of G.W. We apologize.
My shame is my only badge of honour here.
Like Howie Klein, I am a fan of alterna history. I wish we could tesseract ourselves back to some crucial point in the history of the Bush family–ex., when Weicker wiped Prescott Bush’s ass all over the state — to prevent the madness.

Pach…. great post. I’m glad to see that you will be posting some. Hard right now with the two sites and all, I hope there are more responses to this excellent post at the other site. I too am just going to “tough it out” over here. I think.

I’m from Texas. You know, the State embarrassed by having the crazy pretender owning land in it and calling himself something else he’s not. The war for Texas Independence was short and violent. It should be noted that less than 15% of the land owners and farmers of the day really wanted to fight Santa Anna.

My out gunned, out numbered and untrained ancestors handed Santa Anna’s Army one of the worst defeats in military history.
Theres more than one way to fight this battle. Man your computers and telephones Ladies and Gentlemen, and don’t stop until you can see the crease in their behinds!

I grew up in a dead hard Yankee New England town. There were over 600 graves of local men who fought in the American War for Independence from England beginning in 1775.

I was recently reading selected passages from the diary of a noted townsman of the time leading up to the Revolution and during the war itself.

Paraphrasing:” Considering we stand at the vanguard advancing the notion of Independence from tyranny, I would estimate that 25% of the town remains loyal to the King, 25% would give their lives to rid us of the Crown, and 50% give not a wit or whim which side prevails as they are comfortable on the fence rail.

This was in the best of New England towns supporting the Revolution.

I say this to remind everyone not to romanticize or sugar coat history. Most people are fence sitters, throughout history, even in the most dire circumstances with the most obvious choices.

The present majority in this country have not even been asked to sacrifice much of anything in the last decade or so except their tax dollars. The average American has certainly not been asked to give their life or love or sacred honor for anything other than pre-packaged, blow dried, Coporate Pseudo-Patriotism.

Almost 50% on average don’t even vote much less get off their duffs to express an intelligent opinion on the trials of the day.

The polls numbers today are theoretically encouraging.

The theoretical	spirit appears to be willing.

Is the theoretical flesh weak?

This is a really good post. But I read it on the old site, because when my computer shows me this new site, the blog ads are stuck in the middle of the screen, covering the text, and there is a big empty area on the left of my computer screen where the ads should go. I hope this bug can be corrected before the old site is taken down.
