Christy – you will be awesome because you are one smart lady who genuinely believes in justice and cares about what’s going on. We tend to think we need to have the perfectly crafted answer to every question but audiences/viewers/readers respond best to authenticity and passion.

Siun’s standard advice to clients:

and I remind folks of the Maud Gonne tale (appropriate for this Saint’s day) Maud was asked to speak for the first time at an Irish resistance event on behalf of the starving folks being tossed from their homes in the West of Ireland. Being a shy young lady at the time, she said she would sit on the dais but she could not speak. When the day came, the master of ceremonies was deaf and did not hear the message that Maud would not be speaking and introduced her as the next orator. Surely I’m the last urban dweller on earth without cable. But I can hear you anytime, here, Redd, and why would I want to hear that guy?

Some good news: I called Kennedy’s office about the Dewine legislation (go to greenwald if you don’t know about it already.) The Boston office staffer said he had not read it, but he didn’t need to: the Senator is opposed to any form of legislation like it. I particularly liked the part where he didn’t need to read it. Maybe he should talk to the censure staffer…

As far as I read the Dewine legislation, the King is allowed to spy on you for First Amendment exercise as long as that’s not the sole reason. Buying a gun might suffice for an additional reason–who knows? Remember, you’re only allowed to exercise your civil rights one at a time.

(And yes, it’s true, the Dewine DC staffer in charge of drafting this Constitution-slashing legislation really is named Ben Franklin. May his voicemail overflow.)

From my experience, the replays of Washington Journal are rarely rescheduled– they are re-aired sporadically during the day; maybe we could do a mass emailing though to the site and beg.

I’m a native Minnesotan transplanted ta western Wisconsin and I’m sorry to say Mirengoff lives in Minnesota…he’s also VERY slippery and intellectual honesty ain’t in his genetic makeup. He masquerades as a lawyer, but you don’t have anythin ta worry about on that score, intellectually and professionally you’ll make ‘im look like an anorexic Alphalpha (from “Our Gang”?).

I will be up at 6:45, I guess I have a sadistic streak when it comes ta seein’ fascists humiliated in public.

What to ask Christy? Well, among her many strengths are a passion for justice, a commitment to the rule of law and fair play, and eloquence against injustice and dishonesty. Just ask the “panel” anything about the Bush outrages, and let her rip. (but don’t ask her to defend the Demo responses).

Excellent! Be careful with Slen — his background is in Republican politics in the Midwest, I believe, though I think he tries to be fair. Keep pointing the polls. I’d also remind them of “ancient history” — how Bush first opposed creation of a Dep’t of Homeland Security, how various Democratic senators have been screaming about port security for years, only to be shot down by the Repubs, giving rise to the inevitable conclusion that the Republican Party is incompetent on national security issues.

I have no doubt that you will do us proud. I’ll set my alarm and be up and watching. Go get em!

…and the problem with that c-span format is that no ‘conclusions’ are ever reached — it’s simply a ‘He-said, She-said’ format.

The c-span moderator will frequently change the topic (…or take another worthless viewer phone call) before any serious discussion/debate is permitted between the two Washington Journal guests on any given issue.

Any ’strong’ debate will be quickly quashed by the “moderator” — c-span decorum is all important.

You should be civil, but assertive with Peter Slen — protesting his awkward & unproductive ‘moderation’.

You and Mr. Mirengoff are responsible & intelligent guests who are quite capable of conducting a productive discussion — do not allow c-span to treat you as hired-help.
