[…] Firedoglake brings us the most recent pearls to drip from the tongue of the utterly useless Evan Bayh. But the first thing Democrats need to do, Bayh said, is take Republicans on in an area they’ve dominated: national security.â€It’s a threshold issue for us, and it’s a threshold issue for America,†Bayh said. “People aren’t going to trust us with anything else if we first can’t convince them to trust us with their lives.â€Â Before he spoke, Bayh told reporters that he does not support efforts by Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., another potential 2008 presidential candidate, to censure Bush for authorizing domestic eavesdropping. Bayh said it’s not clear whether the law requiring court approval before surveillance was broken, and he instead favors revisiting and possibly updating the law. […]

Are we taking votes on lemming status?

If we are, then I want Jeff Bingaman (I don’t know, but I’ve been told that his official indian name is Finger-in-the-Wind) added to the list. What a maroon!

I was kinda baffled by that whole “constant” sequence last night. he/she/it was clamoring for attention in a passive-aggressive way.

I don’t think the blogspot problems have anything to do with us, it’s up and down tonight (at Atrios and Digby too). We’re not over here officially until we get a few bugs worked out but I’ll keep both up and running so we’ll have some place to go if blogger wigs out completely (and it looks like it’s trying).

Below is also posted at the blogspot site. I cannot tell you how pissed off I am at Wyden.

I read Wyden’s statement on his website. It is BS. His key statement is: “As with the proposed censure and impeachment of President Bill Clinton, this process should include a thorough investigation of all of the relevant facts, full congressional hearings, and a meaningful opportunity for the President to explain and defend his actions prior to any votes regarding the President’s possible censure.”

But he goes on to note: “Since learning about the program, I have repeatedly called for the Committee to fully investigate the NSA operation, and I think it is stunning that a majority of my colleagues on the Committee have opposed authorizing an investigation by the full committee. “

In other words, he says he wants an investigation and then all but admits there will not be one.

On his website he says he represents all of Oregon with “all” underlined. No he doesn’t. He just proved that today. I vote that he be added to the list of lemmings.

The only place that I am giving money is to individuals like Ned Lamont and to Russ Feingold’s Progressive Patriots Fund. I have had it with the DSCC, the DCCC, and (sorry Howard) the DNC too.

This idea that there is nothing to do reflects a lack of imagination.

If you think that you can’t elect someone reasonable in your district, give money and time somewhere else where it will make a difference.

If you are persuaded, as I think is reasonable, that we are far down the road to actual fascism: speak up, or support others who speak up, work for the rights of dissidents and whistleblowers, learn more about peace and war, find others who feel the way you do and work together for justice. Teach others what you know. Teach children about peace and justice. [yes I do have Quaker ancestors, just as I have many other ancestors that went off to fight.]

If you think the country is well and truly fucked, plan for the aftermath. Someone will need to help lead us back toward sanity! Think of your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces. They don’t know what is happening and you do. Be prepared to work in the post-horror period on THEIR behalf.

Everyone: be prepared by having a supply of food including a non electric canopener. Have your documents and a small bag ready in case you have to leave your home. Comfort those who are anxious.

I can believe that everything that happens is within the will of God and still work very hard to change things here on earth. Not a contradiction imho.

/rant, but more to come.
