Meet our newest Lemming. BushCo. is on the ropes, but Evan Bayh offers them a helping hand:
But the first thing Democrats need to do, Bayh said, is take Republicans on in an area they’ve dominated: national security.
"It’s a threshold issue for us, and it’s a threshold issue for America," Bayh said. "People aren’t going to trust us with anything else if we first can’t convince them to trust us with their lives."
Before he spoke, Bayh told reporters that he does not support efforts by Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., another potential 2008 presidential candidate, to censure Bush for authorizing domestic eavesdropping. Bayh said it’s not clear whether the law requiring court approval before surveillance was broken, and he instead favors revisiting and possibly updating the law.
How exaclty does Bayh plan to be the big national security badass? By changing the law so that the President’s illegal actions are made legal? Wow you are one tough hombre, Evan.
I wouldn’t trust you to guard my potted fern.

I never want to hear "Evan Bayh" for anything, ever again. Not President, not Vice President, not dog catcher. Ever.

Birch Bayh ! (Evan’s father who was the real Indiana Democratic Senator!)
Fitz and Feingold.
I spent the day reflecting in what I thought might have been irrational anger expressed in my rants last night. I decided I was justified and this confirms if. I cannot, just simply cannot fathom the reason these fools want to ignore the illegal action of this president. It’s not about Clinton, although those quotes from Repubs from that time do fuel the fire. It’s the wide open road they have and the excellent opportunity to shine a bright light on all the dangerous and slimy moves this admin has made. None of these excuses make any sense to me at all.
Can’t get on any blogspot sites at the moment.
ps I really like the new site and don’t see any toilet paper anywhere. Glad to see the preview window and find this very readable. Also really like numbered comments and wider page. Thanks to Christy and Jane and Jamie.
nice pad.
Well lookee here:
Poll: Americans slightly favor plan to censure
RAW STORY
Published: Thursday March 16, 2006
A new poll finds that a plurality of Americans favor plans to censure President George W. Bush, while a surprising 42% favor moves to actually impeach the President.
A poll taken March 15, 2006 by American Research Group found that among all adults, 46% favor Senator Russ Feingold’s (D-WI) plan to censure President George W. Bush, while just 44% are opposed. Approval of the plan grows slightly when the sample is narrowed to voters, up to 48% in favor of the Senate censuring the sitting president.
Even more shocking is that just 57% of Republicans are opposed to the move, with 14% still undecided and 29% actually in favor. Fully 70% of Democrats want to see Bush censured.
More surprising still: The poll found fully 43% of voters in favor of actually impeaching the President, with just 50% of voters opposed. While only 18% of Republicans surveyed wanted to see Bush impeached, 61% of Democrats and 47% of Independents reported they wanted to see the House move ahead with the Conyers (D-MI) resolution.
this is ot, just wanted to mention that I followed a strange comment at Glenn’s site by Constant with a wierd apology. He/she has this incredibly long rambling post apologising to FDL repeatedly about being banned and not understanding why. He/she has posted comments with his/her own editorial comments which indicate either a profound naievete or a deep sarcasm. I thought you should know about it, but I’m not sure why. I’m not defending Constant, I think the banning was unfortunately the right thing to do. Claiming not to know who Wilson or egregious were and not to know what blogwhoring were in the editorial comments is disengenuous, and with an intense personalization and inability to understand snark, I think FDL is just a little over constant’s head.
ok… more comments over on the other version which I now can’t get onto … the transition monster strikes again
Can’t remember who was talking about journalists being killed in Iraq and today informationclearinghouse had this story:
Why Journalists Are Being Murdered In Iraq:
One of those killed was Yasser Salihee. He was shot dead as he approached a US checkpoint on June 24 last year. In the previous weeks, Salihee had documented, for the Knight-Ridder news agency, dozens of cases of men being dumped at morgues after having been detained by the Wolf Brigade, the most notorious unit among the Special Police Commandos, and under the direct command of a US officer.

Protest in New Orleans this weekend. Congo Square 10am Saturday.
March to New Orleans to Protest Iraq War
The Associated Press
Tuesday 14 March 2006
Mobile, Alabama – Hurricane victims and war veterans set out Tuesday on a march to New Orleans to protest the war in Iraq and what they view as a lack of relief aid for storm victims.
Paul Robinson, the local chapter president of Veterans for Peace, said the 140-mile “Walkin’ to New Orleans” march is scheduled to end Saturday.
He said marchers, including several victims of Hurricane Katrina, are demanding not only an end to the war but also a large increase in resources to help hurricane victims rebuild their lives. He expected about 300 marchers to join in, some walking the entire distance and other joining at the end.
Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who spent a month protesting outside President Bush’s ranch last summer, was expected to join the marchers in New Orleans, her sister, Dede Miller, said Monday.
“I’m marching because this will bring attention to the war and what’s going on here in the South. It’s outrageous,” Miller said.
siun—I was about to reply on the blogger site to thank you for your Rachel Corrie links. I’m sure ET appreciated that you posted them.
EdwardT—Rachel Corrie has been under consideration at one of Seattle’s major theaters. Not sure yet how the NYTW decision is going to ultimately affect Seattle’s decision but it has certainly expanded the interest level here.
Have to run. Will check in for Late Night.
“People aren’t going to trust us with anything else if we first can’t convince them to trust us with their lives.â€
Then stand up and show that you’re worthy of that trust, Senator! Here’s a free tip: people LIKE partisanship when it represents their views. Really. Feingold captured the imagination and support of half the country with his censure resolution. Take a good look at how Russ operates.
Bayh will be President about as soon as Mitt Romney, I’m betting. Just another Republican-lite.
for that matter: this coming Saturday at 1pm Hoosiers will have an anti-war demonstration on Monument Circle. Bayh’s office is half a block away…
Missouri Anti-Contraception budget…
even wing nuttier than I thought. They don’t save any money with this bill plus it also bans referrals to any other agency that provides the services not approved in the budget. Now that is tough love from your governmnet. We are going to make sure you don’t get it from us or anyone else! The American Taliban on the march!

Let his name be stricken and forgotten!
So let it be written,
So let it be done!
Great response, Dru.
siun; thank you for your poignant remembrances; that thing Mary said about typing and emoting…I get too choked up and inarticulate to jump right in but I really appreciate your posts.
I give up.
Thanky,curious.
Wow, finally got this site to load. I guess until the transition thingie goes through, I just have to keep both versions of FDL and their respective comments open.
A wee small price to pay for the widsom that is FDL.
Dru – thank you. The only way I cope with these sorrows is by sharing them with our friends here.
Blogspot is back up and unlike earlier, comments here are not mirroring there so folks may want to hop on over if they can.
though this is a nice crew all by itself!
The other site is working now.
This idea that there is nothing to do reflects a lack of imagination.
If you think that you can’t elect someone reasonable in your district, give money and time somewhere else where it will make a difference.
If you are persuaded, as I think is reasonable, that we are far down the road to actual fascism: speak up, or support others who speak up, work for the rights of dissidents and whistleblowers, learn more about peace and war, find others who feel the way you do and work together for justice. Teach others what you know. Teach children about peace and justice. [yes I do have Quaker ancestors, just as I have many other ancestors that went off to fight.]
If you think the country is well and truly fucked, plan for the aftermath. Someone will need to help lead us back toward sanity! Think of your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces. They don’t know what is happening and you do. Be prepared to work in the post-horror period on THEIR behalf.
Everyone: be prepared by having a supply of food including a non electric canopener. Have your documents and a small bag ready in case you have to leave your home. Comfort those who are anxious.
I can believe that everything that happens is within the will of God and still work very hard to change things here on earth. Not a contradiction imho.
/rant, but more to come.

Thank you siun; I just tried getting in blogspot but 4 pesky items refuse to load and let me into haloscan…ah well, I can catch up on my non blog reading…g’nite all, or as markfromireland says *poof*!
bye DRu … have a good night.
Below is also posted at the blogspot site. I cannot tell you how pissed off I am at Wyden.
I read Wyden’s statement on his website. It is BS. His key statement is: “As with the proposed censure and impeachment of President Bill Clinton, this process should include a thorough investigation of all of the relevant facts, full congressional hearings, and a meaningful opportunity for the President to explain and defend his actions prior to any votes regarding the President’s possible censure.”
But he goes on to note: “Since learning about the program, I have repeatedly called for the Committee to fully investigate the NSA operation, and I think it is stunning that a majority of my colleagues on the Committee have opposed authorizing an investigation by the full committee. “
In other words, he says he wants an investigation and then all but admits there will not be one.
On his website he says he represents all of Oregon with “all” underlined. No he doesn’t. He just proved that today. I vote that he be added to the list of lemmings.
The only place that I am giving money is to individuals like Ned Lamont and to Russ Feingold’s Progressive Patriots Fund. I have had it with the DSCC, the DCCC, and (sorry Howard) the DNC too.
I don’t think the blogspot problems have anything to do with us, it’s up and down tonight (at Atrios and Digby too). We’re not over here officially until we get a few bugs worked out but I’ll keep both up and running so we’ll have some place to go if blogger wigs out completely (and it looks like it’s trying).

I was kinda baffled by that whole “constant” sequence last night. he/she/it was clamoring for attention in a passive-aggressive way.
Q. What is the past tense of Bayh?
A. Bought
Are we taking votes on lemming status?
If we are, then I want Jeff Bingaman (I don’t know, but I’ve been told that his official indian name is Finger-in-the-Wind) added to the list. What a maroon!
