Yeah justification! Thanks.
Oh, hey, what a relief!!
I thought you guys had been hacked!
Looks good :))
I just got off the phone with Clinton and Schumer’s offices again. Neither one has yet taken a position on censure, but both said that they were getting a high volume of calls and the guy at Schumer’s office said that “there must be a call-in campaign going”.
I told them both that I strongly urge them to support censure and that if either one of them voted against it that they would lose my vote forever.
Huh?
oh, for a photoshop thing of ken and joe in a Brokeback moment, with cowboy hats, mountains, sheep.
bluehost sucks!!!
I keep getting a message that “THIS ACCOUNT HAS EXCEEDED IT’S CPU LIMIT”
WTF?
Jane / Redd, Categories seem broken. Lieberman and pro-choice now drive infinte loop of redirects. This will likely drive high CPU usage – computer driving the clicks and all will drive the clicks to occur much faster than all us humans combined.
Reposting this up here:
Sent to mattheaton’s blog, seems he’s the bluehost owner:
Hello, Matt-
Great posts and interesting perspective, especially this from a previous post:
†How you might ask? By LISTENING to the customer!
The web hosting industry in my opinion is completely driven by the market. We do what YOU the customer wants. Those that can provide what the customer needs for a low and fair price thrive. Those that can’t fade into the sunset…â€
There is a problem currently with one of your customers who is attempting to move to BlueHost from Blogspot, and I’m hoping you can help. http://www.firedoglake.com is an extremely popular blog with a fabulous and activist comment section. Our “fearless leaders†seem to be having some difficulty getting what they want from your coustomer service department, maybe you could check the most current post and help out. Link below.

Don’t click, it’s an experiment.
Zennurse, I love your approach to problem solving.

Twice I have tried to post and got a warning. Must be my manners.
In the last thread, about mid-way through, all the posts were underlined until the end. When I tried to comment about the problem, I was sent immediately to the site where the first underlined poster’s name appeared in the thread: Something like Dubya40. I thought I was expelled or “in moderation,” or CPU’ed. Is CPU relalted to EPU? ;)
Hey Jane,
The link to C&L is busted.
Via raw story– whiny democratic senate aides:
http://rawstory.com/news/2006/…..e_0314.htm
also, the judge just issued another ruling in the Moussaoui trial that (acc. to Pete Williams) dealt another blow to the prosecution.
Dana – CPU’s is not related to EPU’d. In any way. At all.
They seem to be having bandwidth issues with the new hosting service.
I am a universe unto myself, I never have bandwidth issues.
so I have to re-enter my name and address each time I make a comment? hecky-durn !
EPU, Whew! I thought you had an evil twin like Claude Allen.
Okay — today is officially declared “learning day.”
Everyone stay calm, while zen does some experimentin’.
Sangemon: keep the happy faces handy.
The only category broken (infinite loop) now seems to be pro-choice…
Off topic, back on Feingold.
Cowards. Read this and weep.
“While mainstream media outlets have pounced on the fact that Democrats blocked an effort by one of their own to censure President Bush over his warrantless wiretapping program, RAW STORY has found that Senate Democratic offices are fuming….”
http://rawstory.com/news/2006/….._0314.html
I feel better now that I’ve got that 1st EPU out of the way . . .
wilson — I’m NOT having to reenter name/e-mail address.
Anyone else?

there are an infinite number of EPUs out there
“so I have to re-enter my name and address each time I make a comment? hecky-durn”
I’m not having that problem.
The CPU is just jealous. So typical of a chip.
Wilson – I have not experienced that problem. My info is staying cached after posting.
This is an important bit of information from kos about our fundraising efforts for Ned and Ciro.
money makes money
Glad to have found you all…forced to work on a project this morning on deadline so I’ve missed some of the changeover pain and agony. Give ‘em hell Jane.
Called Russ’s office yesterday (I’m a very happy constituent) to say thanks, called Sen. Kohl to encourage him to actually do something even moderately in tune with his supposed party affiliation(thanks for NOTHING), and called Reid’s office as well.
Who called it?
http://washington.bizjournals……ily30.html
seemingly, you only have to enter your info on the first comment in a new thread. and comments seem to be numbered: cool !
Wilson, first, why do you have a number after your name? I have heard of using a ‘1′ when there are impersonators, but wow to think there could have been 46,200 versions of you before? Mind boggling.
However, this new site does remember my name. :-)
In the last thread, about mid-way through, all the posts were underlined until the end. When I tried to comment about the problem, I was sent immediately to the site where the first underlined poster’s name appeared in the thread: Something like Dubya40.
Same thing happened to me. Give em some time, they’re ’sperimentin…
Looks like the host is on UK time
Wilson – Why mock me? I am THE evil parallel universe :) And although I would like to consider myself infinite, even my ego would not claim such status.
OhohOh, this new site gave me a smiley face — oh happy day. All I did was type my usual colon-dash-parenthesis face :-) let’s see if it does it again.
Why can’t I post. Again:
I think that this Blusespot, or whatever it is, is not accustomed to our comment volume or intensity. I can’t post several followups because it blocks me.
Anyway, onward.
The NY Times reports: Lawyer Accused of Tainting Witnesses Declines to Testify
Fair enough. She is in danger of contempt of court for tampering with witnesses. She better get herself a lawyer, and she better take the 5th.
But there’s more:
the NY Times reports:
Prosecutors sought to demonstrate that Ms. Martin, a lawyer with the Transportation Security Administration, was not part of the Justice Department team handling the Moussaoui case. But Judge Brinkema said that she was “an attorney for the United States and you all represent the United States. It’s not the Justice Department against Mr. Moussaoui, it’s the United States” that is trying to have him executed.
So now the prosecutors are lying to the judge?
I happened to find this while searching for “carla j. Martin” in Google:
Not part of the prosecution team, my ass.
My guess would be a zip code.
Does it support other types of emoticons?
;)
Let’s see.
looseheadprop; For posting links, you have two choices.
1. Cut and paste the URL (that’s the web adress string “http://www.firedoglake.com”, for instance) onto a separate line. Most comment and forum software will pick that up and turn it into a link:
http://www.firedoglake.com
This is a new site, so the above was an experiment. You might not see a link, since I haven’t tried this here until now.
2. Embed the link in text with some sort of comment about what it is being the clickable portion. Do this by typing a string that starts out
<A HREF=”http://www.firedoglake.com”>,followed by the text you want to appear, followed by
</A>. For example the string:Here is a link to <A HREF=”http://www.firedoglake.com”>FireDogLake’s new address</A>
Will look like this:
Here is a link to FireDogLake’s new address.
I hope.
One thing I still don’t like about this site is the lack of a preview feature for comments.
[On my last attempt to post this, which took considerably longer than 15 seconds to write, I got that dumbass message saying: “You can only post one comment every 15 seconds. Slow down, cowboy.” Lesson to new computer programmers out there - if you’re going to be a wiseass, make sure you know what you’re doing first.]
just got my MoveOn Censure Petition Email which I promptly signed. instantly I got back an Email asking me to please call my Senators and please report back on the results. I reported that Id already called yesterday.
“… and pulled out a plum and said Oh what a good boi am I ! “
Here’s the info on the Moussaoui case
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..hdA–
That didn’t work. Let’s try
;-)
Testing — will it give me a frowny face? Let’s see — :-(
looseheadprop: Here’s my method (using the mouse only)
Cut and paste….
Using your mouse, place the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to move so that you can highlight the text. Click and hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to the end of the text that you want to move. This will highlight (darken) the text. Right click “copy”. Place your cursor at the location where you want the text to be displayed. Right click “paste”. That’s it!
Why is everything in italics now? Pretty scary.
holy crow– that link looks awful! sorry.:(
Okay — today is officially declared “learning day.â€
It is actually Pi Day.
Today’s date, written in American notation – 3/14 – bears the closest approximation to pi of any date in the calendar.
It has therefore been declared World Pi Day in honour of the mathematical conundrum that has baffled leading scholars since the days of ancient Babylon.
There is also a Lunar Eclipse tonight (full moon).
Howl time. Anything could happen. March madness and all.
that 5digit number is my zipcode (near Eastside, Indianapolis) – i use wilson46201 as a general online screenname for a variety of services. its just simple for me to remember…
Hello!!
Hey! How do you make the smiley faces?
I’ll need to start taking blood pressure medicine after reading that Raw Story article!!!
This is a case of no principle, I’ll say whatever just to get elected Democrats at work. Aaauuuggghhhhh!!!!!!!
Fuck em! (Looking around to make sure the toddler didn’t hear that)
If the majority of Americans aren’t against the warrantless wiretapping yet, the Dems should take that as a sign that they need to educate the populace. Take a stand and be proud of it!
Of course the regular person isn’t against it because they believe the pres when he says the NSA is only listening to terrorists. What’s wrong with that?
Go Feingold!!!
Evil Parallel Universe says Why is everything in italics now? Pretty scary.
Apparently, someone forgot to close his italics macro, and now we’re all suffering. The Haloscan software just automagically dealt with that problem.
Let’s see if I get that stupidass “Slow down, cowboy” message again. I couldn’t possibly have typed this in fifteen seconds.
EPU – it only likes my way of typing faces hehehehe. Sorry for taking up valuable space on these testing post, hope I don’t cause someone to get CPU’d. That’s almost as bad as EPU’d.
but I have NEVER been able to figure out how to use those emoticons and now with this fantastic new site, it gives them to me automatically. Thanks FDL
I’m having the following:
Con:
Parts of comments not getting through, see nonsense comment #12
Difficulty posting a comment about half the time
saying CPU error or failed server error
Things jumping around in this window inappropriately with certain commands (Enter)
On the Pro side,
I like the underlining.
I’m not having to re-enter my name
Refresh no longer messing up text of post
Is anyone still getting sent to Blogger rather than here?
So, I think it’s a little better, but the bandwith issue is the same.
Also, if you look on the right column, just under the Amazon link, there is a teeny-tiny box which says PayPal. Use it.
Those Hill staffers quoted in the Rawstory article have me really pissed, not that they surprise me.
These people are really in their own fucking world.
I’m glad Russ essentially called them fucking cowards, because they are.
Pi Day most closely happened back on March 14th, 1592 –

Heheh. That’s my g-spot.
Everything is so clean and white looking. And it smells better too. I think I’m going to like it here.
Thanks Wilson — that makes sense. Should have figured it out. But hey, I can use emoticons now. shows I am making progress, albeit automatically furnished by this website.
I have this vision of Jane sitting by her computer with telephone in hand using all the language in her possession (massive) to talk to whomever is brave enough to hang on to the other end of the phone and/or website.
I can’t imagine what Gore was thinking in ‘00 in selecting Joementum as a running mate
Infinite redirects would cause a serious CPU hit, and on a shared host, the hosting co. has to step in and stop it. Stinky but true.
Sorry about the run-on link!
Also, you can no longer push the button below (Submit comment) to refresh, but F5 still works. For those who don’t know, you can push F5 instead of the twirling arrows on your toolbar to refresh. It also did not repost my comment, hooray!!!

Carlyle Group Explores Acquisition of Port Operations

Private equity firm The Carlyle Group established a team to acquire public-purpose facilities, such as ports, a day after a United Arab Emirates company said it would transfer newly acquired operations at American ports to a US organization.

The corporatists on CNBC continue to amaze and amuse. Now, I am a corporatist (a story we don’t need to get into at this point in time), and have nothing against either corporations or business in general, but…..
You would not know that there is a world beyond the markets from watching CNBC. Everything is in terms of “effect on the market.”
They are talking about Google v. the Gov on records, and no mention of privacy, etc., all about effect on Google as a biz/stock price. Is the request a burden on Google.
They did this the other day with oil, same thing.
Fascinating, that is all I can say. I will tell you they will miss the revolution. They not care, but they will miss it.
Oh, and why do I have CNBC? B/c there is no football (what you call soccer) on at the moment) and it is better than CNN or MSNBC.
There’s more information dripping out on the use of domestic spying to monitor political opponents of the administration:

By the way, some keywords and phrases for repetition:
Bush (Republicans) lost Iraq.
Bush is a loser.
Bush is (Republicans are) weak.

emphatic looks like this … emphasis
What’s the “meta” login link on the side? Is that for contributers only? Or am I missing some fantastic features?
I don’t understand why my comment is waiting moderation ?
ReddHedd/Jane Hamsher,
Another problem,
Old email address, ReddHedd@firedoglake.com not working.
Cheers.
Hi Jane and Redd, I dig the new digs…
Called Frist’s office and chewed him out (nicely of course).
I think it may have been a tactical mistake by my man to have introduced the censure if he, in fact, did not run it by the leadership or caucus. Naturally this plays into the hands of the opposition if the Dems are not together on this (which they will not be). So, if the Rawstory article posted above is correct in it’s reporting, it will be another well-meaning attempt that won’t go anywhere in a Repugnant congress. God, I hope I’m wrong because Russ seems too smart to let that happen…
:-p
:-P
angie,
Andrew Cohen the CBS legal commentator had a good post up a week or two ago where he argued that the whole effort to get the death penalty for Moussaoui in this sentencing phase was not only costly in time and money but likely to fail. This was even before the government’s case began to implode. Perhaps the lawyers out there can help me understand how a lawyer who is sufficiently knowledgeable about the case to coach witnesses could also be unaware of the judge’s direction specifically not to do this. Is said lawyer liable, unlucky, or just stupid?
Hmmm…not sure I’m crazy about the new digs, but I’ll get used to it, I guess.
Emailed Joe yesterday. Received the standard form non-reply email today. It’s about what I expected. Apparently they don’t even have a reply drafted yet for the censure issue.
Nedmentum in ‘06!
“Bush (Republicans) lost Iraq.
Bush is a loser.
Bush is (Republicans are) weak.”
And Bush (Republicans) are stupid.
Tell your friends.
Pachacutec — would be interesting to know whom the grumbling staffers work for. If it’s just the presidential wannabees, I don’t care. If they can’t lead, they have to follow.
And since when does taking it to the caucus result in anything?
If there is to be an “investigation” (Judiciary), why doesn’t the Censure Motion provide greater interest in those hearings? And if the hearing would have been a sham, then it was still the right thing to introduce the Motion.
Southpaw – We don’t know what will happen, but just having it out there is, IMO, a good thing. You can’t stop the wave, and someone had to put it out there. Give it time, I don’t think it is just going to die.
Testing, one more(promise)for now. :frog:
Feingold said: “No one questions whether the government should wiretap suspected terrorists. Of course we should, and we can under current law.”
The corporate media is “triangulating.” They aren’t in some case printing the most viciously Orwellian of DeadEye’s soundbytes, but they are focussing on the lack of Democratic support. This effectively castrates what Feingold actually said: “”No one questions whether the government should wiretap suspected terrorists. Of course we should, and we can under current law.”
I hope you kids are savin’ money w/ the “read the whole post” thang ’cause that deal really bugs me (eg HuffPost).
That said, it’s so fancy here now that I went back in the house and put on my crested blazer just to stare at the plasmaness.
Is Ken Mehlman a mormon? I don’t know why but he looks like one to me. I like Mormons just fine but that guy is kind of ugly like a lot of guys I know that are mormon. He just has that Mormon-look to me.
And to add, I actually really like mormons but those guys are….ugly. sorry. Jimbo.
Like this :/)
End link???
:>)
remember that staffers are just that: staffers. they have no independent power – they work for elected officials. the elected officials make the decisions and set the policies. the elected officials are the ones who have to be responsive and accountable to voters. staffers are immensely useful but the power remains in the hands of the elected office holders!
.
Is that crazy underline gone?
:-)
1. The lawyer could just be dumb. This is unlikely given the high profile of the prosecution.
2. The lawyer could legitimately not have known of the lawyer. Unlikely (extremely unlikely)
3. The lawyer didn’t care, and, independent of the senior attorneys didn’t think she would get caught. Possible although unlikely.
4. She was acting at the direction of senior attorneys, and they didn’t think the judge would find out. Implausible given that the lead gov’t attorney is the one who reported it to the court.
5. The attorney who did the coaching was acting at the behest of some outside political influence who realized that the gov’t’s case for the death penalty was not solid and thought this would provide a way out that would let them save face (i.e. we will even violate court orders to kill terrorists). Plausible. Scenario 4 can also fall under this rubrick, but I really don’t think this is the type of thing that career prosecutors do.
So I vote with 5, although I have no clue and it could be any of them.

Thanks for the control V advice (whic does not work on my computor) and the right click/left click advice which is what I had been doing on the pervious sight. My problem is this. When I cut and paste it shows up just fine in the box I am typing in. If I follow the instructions above the box for a block quote (left carrot, qote marks, text, quote marks right carrot)
after I push “subit comment” my post (which is awaiting moderation) appears but missing the quote that was there before I pushed “submit comment”
I am trying again, merely cutting and pasting and not getting involved with the block quote stuff–just as an experiment.
I should keep it simple stupid and not try to get fancy
