As a nominal moderate Democrat, it sometimes seems that no one in Washington represents my interests.

Bush has been a miserable failure. If these gutless Senate Democrats won’t vote to censure him, why don’t they just give him a commendation.

Ugh.

Make that testosterone (sp?) Thought I discovered a new biogen. If I hear one more time on cable TV that the Dems can’t get any traction on Bush’s disintegrating ratings, I will drown in my own testosterone.

Can’t Dems come up with some talking points that they can all agree on? GOP Ed Rollins on Tweety is a tough spokesman because he takes no prisoners. He just keeps spinning, getting meaner by the the sentence. Mary Matalin hyped on testosterne. The Dem on Tweety plays into Ol’ Yeller’s program because she can’t at least produce a general Dem response to Iraq other than holding Bush accountable. Somebody please write some lefty talking points and give it to media guests.

Called my senators today asking that they support Feingold. Chafee? That was a waste if time. Jack Reed (D-RI) had no opinion on the censure resolution. Figures. Hey, don’t take a stand senator, you can just sit back and let the Repugs keep driving the car (right off the edge of a friggin cliff). But don’t forget Jack, when my rights are history, yours will be too. And it’s even worse for you since I doubt President FUBAR will need the services of a Congress anymore, when that evil day arrives.

Jane, I like the new digs.

How can anyone possibly be shocked by the lack of support for Feingold. Look at the roster of Democrats in the senate. Lieberman. The nelson twins. David Pryor. Blanche Lincoln. Byron Dorgan. Jeff Bingaman. Harry Reid. DiFi. Biden. Carper. Murray. Cantwell. Landrieu. Clinton. Kerry. The guy from Colorado. Tim Johnson. Baucus. Bayh. Conrad. Akaka. Inouye. Kohl. Rockefeller. Stabenow. Wyden.

Find me the reliable democrat in that group.

I’m not all that wild about barak obama so far, schumer is a complete pussbag for what he did to paul hackett, leahy always seems to vote for the most odious supreme court and AG nominees (so did feingold, for that matter). Durbin dissolved into a puddle when challenged on his righteous comments about Gitmo (Reid followed suit with his recent comments about GOP corruption).

The way I count it up, we have about two reliable senate votes in Boxer and Kennedy. I don’t know enough about mikulski, sarbanes, dodd, or harkin to say for sure, and byrd always makes me a little bit nervous.

So what we have are a bunch of barely reliable to totally unreliable votes. On top of that, the moment any one of them finds a spine, it turns to jello the second Tim Russert looks crosseyed at him or her.

To expect anything resembling courage and integrity from this bunch is totally unrealistic and self-deceptive.

Anonymous says:

am not shocked by Dems, few of us are anymore.
I don’t buy that any of them are under some kind of threat, and no, I don’t think you are some kind of raving paranoid for positing the theory.

you need to read Greenwald’s recent posts on them, and read them again - nobody needs to threaten them, they are doing this to themselves (and us unfortuantely) - just think you will come away with a clearer sense of what’s going on - from what I’ve read, Crashing the Gates compliments Glenn’s position and vice versa

Up until recently I thought it was just a combination of them being wounded and cowed, along with some ridiculous lost notion that if they just continued on, kept their mouths shut, the old Reagan/O’Neil dynamic would kick in - NOT!! They certainly behave like some traumatized/dysfunctional family, but digesting Glenn’s posts the past few weeks has given me a better picture

al-Scooter says:

Harry Reid faced down the Mafia in Vegas. John Kerry stopped a round or two in ‘Nam. You think these guys wouldn’t be fighting back if they or their families were being threatened?

al-Scooter

Harry Reid and John Kerry are in the 10 percent(maybe) or so of Demos who have said they will support Feingold.

Tell me about the other 90% of Demos who haven’t.

from Jane;

We’re being charitable here, because 10 Democrats have not yet voiced their support for Feingold. But say that they did. If 10 Senate Democrats out of 44 are willing to stand against the President, that gives him a 77% approval rating among Senate Democrats, or 3% higher than his approval rating right now with the Republican base.

I wouldn’t call it tin-foil hat, Anonymous. I think you give the Dems. too much credit, though. No one has to threaten their lives to make them wimp out. It’s enough to threaten their political lives.

I’d sure love to see someone more eloquent than myself write up a very positive but forceful letter endorsing the censure and expressing gratitude to Feingold for doing his job while demanding that each and every democrat in Congress stand behind him rather than endorse the illegality of the administration.

Since Brazile is right and the blogosphere is not only on fire, but working together in a way I’ve not seen before, I’d bet that we could get a very impressive list of signatures, perhaps enough to give them pause before they join in the Russ bashing. It won’t work with Lieberman, but it couldn’t hurt to try.

Any thoughts? Could we make a difference if Kos, Atrios, Digby, Firedog Lake, Glenn, Wolcott, Crooks & Liars, AmericaBlog, First Draft, etc. all worked together on a single-minded campaign to show the support that we all know exists for Russ Feingold and his courageous stand.
