I usually like your blogs because of your thoughtful analysis. Sadly, I am disappointed by this one. Yes the world does appear “flat” but it isn’t. O-Rielly may be a jerk of the first magnitude, but Christmas isn’t his to own. It isn’t owned by people who have no interest in it except to tell others who do have an interest in it, how they should celebrate it. You bring up Henry Ford, but do nothing to challenge his assertions. Is that because they are beyond the pale of consideration. Is semitism such an established “truth” than criticism of it is beyond the realm of possibility? You brought up the topic and lumped it with Christmas. Is there a point here? Or are you just reminding us all of our place to take instruction well? I guess I will chalk this blog up to the exception that makes the rule.

rwcole:
‘They understand the risk of terrorism- and don’t at all understand the risk of fascism.
,,,,,,,,,,
yeah, I sense some of that.

Give me liberty or give me death

is becoming

I’m afraid, take some of my liberties, just make it go away.

This “war on terrorism” is probably going to go on for at least a decade. Fear will drive a lot of people to the ballot box.
If the White House gets too much farther down in the polls I fully expect to see some terror alerts issued. We sure haven’t seen many since Bush got reelected.

“We saw it with Bill Clinton, who hit the ground reneging on his pledge to let gays into the military and went on (with Hillary) to completely marginalize single-payor advocates, starve Iraqi children, dismantle welfare protections, bomb Iraq illegally, bomb a Sudanese pharmaceutical factory…”

…and won actual elections. You left that part out.

Honestly, how do you square Bill Clinton’s popularity and political success with the “awful” leadership record you tick off?

We’ll all be lucky, I think, if Obama turns out to be another Clinton, including the part about winning elections and drawing broad public support.

I actually tend to think Mark Warner might fill in that role in 2008. He’s different from Clinton — more serious, more decisive, but less charismatic. He’ll be better in some ways and worse in others. But he has those basic qualities of likeability, energy, determination, and administrative skills that might give us a real president for a change.

I doubt many in the “flame throwing” crowd on the true left could do as well.

At the birth of the republic- many wanted a king- many still do- although they wouldn’t put it that way–spygate will give the american people the opportunity to openly discuss the dangers of an unbridled executive branch–I’m afraid that there is a near majority that favors it at the moment.
