FEMA says “Screw you, and happy holidays” to refugees in FEMA-subsidized housing: displaced residents of the Gulf Coast will be kicked out of their hotel room housing after December 1, 2005. FEMA has announced they will stop paying for housing for these people. So enjoy your hotel Thanksgiving dinner, people with no homes and little else — and have a Merry Christmas. On the streets. Nice. Let’s discuss family values when you actually find some.
And on a side note, the Halliburton Christmas bonus gravy train may still be on track…but their employment policies are under some scrutiny. Nothing like a horde of undocumented workers to buck up that bottom line. (Via Atrios.)
Big Oil is run by big LIARS: Ooops. Look who met with VP Cheney’s energy task force? Why, leaders of the big oil companies. You know, the guys who testified to the Senate just last week that they did no such thing? You know, the CEOs who are now in deep doo doo? If only Ted Stevens will bring them back under oath. Start calling your Senators now. It’s going to take a hell of a lot of momentum to move Ted Steven’s ass off his big oil cash pile. Oh, and Cheney? Even more politically radioactive than he was last week. (Who knew it could get so much worse so quickly? No wonder Shrub is outta the country this week!)
And in case anyone is wondering — the WaPo article on the oil execs meeting with Cheney is an example of actual whistleblowing. The leaks to reporters regarding Valerie Wilson is an example of using journalists as a tool to exact political revenge while committing a crime. One has a public interest motive at its root, the other has Dick Cheney. I’m just saying.
Lions? What lions?: Iraqi officials are beginning an inquiry into the abuse allegations made regarding a secret detention facility discovered in the Information Ministry.
As Iraqi investigators began sifting through a secret underground prison run by police in the heart of the capital, Sunni Arab leaders furiously denounced the Shiite-dominated government for supporting the torture of Sunni detainees there and called for an international investigation. The discovery of the prison by the American military has galvanized Sunni Arab anger and widened the country’s sectarian divide just a month before elections for a full, four-year government. The American general charged with securing Baghdad said today that Sunni leaders were supportive of the American raid on the prison, which began Sunday and ended this afternoon. The commander, Maj. Gen. William Webster of the Third Infantry Division, said his troops were prepared to investigate other credible complaints of torture by Iraqi security forces.
Nice that the Iraqis are willing to begin an immediate, public investigation of these alleged torture allegations. Ahem.
Um…They Get the Money Anyway: Congressional negotiators have stripped the earmark for money for the “bridge to nowhere” in Alaska and other pet projects there. But Alaska will get the money in a non-earmarked transporation fund, to spend as they like. And in case you were wondering: on Joe Scarborough’s show today, they reported that the Murkowski’s own property on that island with only 50 residents. Wow. What a coincidence that Ted Stevens would fight so hard for an island where Frank Murkowski owned property getting a bridge. That won’t help property values shoot right up, now will it? (Roll eyes.)
Did I mention that FEMA is kicking all those poor, homeless people out of their hotel rooms on December 1? Ahem.
UPDATE: Just so it is clear, FEMA just let the hurricane homeless folks know today that they would no longer have hotel shelter after December 1, 2005. Happy holidays indeed.
According to the NYTimes, the US has detained 83,000 people in the war on terror thus far.
And just so no one misses this one, it looks like the former head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting repeatedly broke Federal law and internal regulations, according to a just released Inspector General report. Guess that explains his abrupt resignation. Ahem.
Oh, and Dick Cheney played the patriotism card again. Man, that is so 2004. It was a more effective speech before everyone in America realized he is such a lying sack of dung.

About Firedoglake
Please write to FEMA:
http://www.fema.gov/
In Washington state we have about 8000 huricaine Katrina victims who are about to be evicted. Governer Gregoire is pissed.
She is calling on all Washingtonians (as she calls us) to write, email and call FEMA and tell them this is not
acceptable. Some of these folks, after all they’ve been through are going to be homeless.
Like I’ve said before everytime you think they can’t sink lower–they do. Right before the holidays, Women, men and children get to think about where the f–k they’re going to live. 3 months since the disaster and it’s “pull yourself up by your bootstraps time”
I hate this sh-t, I really do. It makes me ashamed for the government, since they can’t feel shame for themselves.
~~My concern is that the evacuees are going to end up homeless
I understand that hotels are expensive and it would be preferable for these families to have more
permanent housing. I’m sure these families would love to have their lives settled somewhere. FEMA hasn’t
done what it needs to do to plan for the future for the evacuees. What happens at the end of the three
months? FEMA just stops providing any assistance and turns away. And then FEMA can say well we
helped, the evacuees are on their own now.
Glad this is at least getting some media coverage. People have moved on to other stories and we have
forgotten that there are still at least 50,000 families in limbo.
~~The problem is there aren’t any apartments Or very, very few anyway. And the ones that are available are usually refusing to allow short term leases and are instead requiring 6 month leases be signed. Greedy SOB owners who are looking to bilk the
government, the insurance companies or the homeowners for every penny they can.
Now you tell me- my house will likely be repaired by the end of January, or 4 months after our hurricane hit. Do you really think most people who’ve been forced out of their homes whether by Katrina or Rita can afford to pay rent on an apartment for 2 months (or more) when they aren’t even living in it?
FEMA has told people in SE Texas that they could set them up in temp housing in Dallas. I guess 5 hour
commutes are to be accepted?
~~This was on the news here in Dallas last night. They are stopping
the hotel subsidies, but will pay for apartment rent until March (I think). They want the people in the hotels in more permanent housing. The problem is alot of the people won’t pass the background and credit checks to be able to get an apartment.
~How can Bu$hitCo & the Republifascists govern if they don’t believe… in government?!
It’s pretty basic and pretty obvious. Expecting Bu$hitCo and the Repulifascists to plan and solve problems of government takes a real basic desire: governing.
They don’t have it; don’t believe in it; and don’t want it. Here’s the predictable result. Every time.
Welcome to our American Iraq!!
FEMA lied again, what a surprize.

Here is the link to “Chapter 2 — Organic Germanium Compounds & What They Do”
http://www.positivehealth.com/…..apter2.htm
You will see prostate cancer listed (and a whole host of other cancers — my orth. surgeon believes it’ll work on all types, but not being an expert on these things, I can’t vouch).
This chapter is part of a free online “book” on Germanium. I highly recommend reading the whole thing, you’ll see links to each chapter on the left side of the page. It’s a very interesting story, too, and written in a way that lay folks can easily understand.
You’ll discover that there are different types of organic germanium out there. Initially, many years ago, there were some unscrupulous types who included non-organic germanium in their product — a huge NO-NO! Non-organic germanium (germanium is an element) is poisonous, and will cause renal failure.
It took researchers a while to figure out how to produce the organic form in a way that would be practical and cost-efficient to manufacture in supplement form. That’s now been done.
We looked into the different brands being marketed, and our favorite, hands-down, for manufacturing method, type of germanium, and quality control is JARROW FORMULAS. The bottle calls it “Bis-Beta Carboxyethyl Germanium Sesquioxide” which is one hell of a mouthful — in a sub-title, it’s called “Ge-132 Organic Germanium Sesquioxide.” Asking a supplement supplier for Jarrow’s Organic Germanium will get you there!
It ain’t cheap. If you’re still interested after reading up on it, I’ll tell you where we get it through the web.
I should mention — Of course I can’t vouch for how much success anyone will have. I only know what I read in the material at the site I linked to, and what my surgeon told us. We have no connection to Jarrow other than being customers of this particular product. We take it prophyactically, each of us taking one 100 mg cap per day.
I’m sure in dealing with an actively spreading cancer, the dosage would be higher. Luckily, there’s no known toxicity for taking organic germanium, and I’m not aware of any sort of interference with other meds. But please do read the stuff at the linked site. My vague memory tells me the info there states the approx. dosages given to various types of patients by the Japanese research institutions using organic germanium to treat cancer patients.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you can find other websites with more info on research, but this site is an excellent place to start off and learn the basics.
Good luck and God bless you or whoever it is you know who’s coping with the situation. Will be happy to send prayers along with best wishes.
zennurse, I watched the Downie interview on Hardball, he was certainly “shifty-eyed” during it, everytime he did it I said he’s lying. He basically made the same statements and they bothered me too.
Mrs. K8, awww *blush*, thanks. I kept speaking up at the meeting too, when he talked about the Repub ex-Governor and how he stressed ‘business’, I said oh yes Engler was so great at business one of the first things he did was dismantle our state Business Ombudsman’s Office that had everything in one central place and a Business Start Up Kit, to help new businesses get started. Now you have to go to the local community college for any kind of help through the SBA, and contact all appropriate agencies and taxes separately and by yourself. Sucks.
When the host brought up the Repub congresscritters in office now I pointed out I had went to a site that listed all the people in this state that had received money from Abramoff … ahem. (all Repubs indeed)
Afterwards we stood outside the community building and talked for another good hour or more, he was fascinated to hear details about Fitz and Plamegate.
It’s you and everyone here whom inspired and armed me with the background details and knowledge to be able to discuss it so well and other topics we covered. I thank all of you, we are blessed to have FDL.
From tomorrow’s Times:
New Disclosure Could Prolong Inquiry on Leak
Regarding the oil economy, people are claiming it’s just not pratical to forgo gasoline, since the kids need to be driven about, groceries need to be bought, etc. That’s just another way of saying oil improves quality of life to such a degree that you can’t imagine doing without it. Everyone wants the gas, but the people who extract it and process it are villified. So you want the convenience, but all of the ugly consequences like war and pollution are someone else’s fault.
I guess trashing oil execs and guys like Dick Cheney is easier than looking critically into the mirror.
Check out the picture of Cheney up on the
Drudge website tonight. He face is puffy and
he may be smiling but he doesn’t look good.
Maybe the CIA ought to do a physical and
mental workup on him as they recently did on
Castro as reported today.
It seems to me Fitzgerald is taking years off
this man’s life. Maybe all this evil stuff like
torture, secret gulags, secrets of Halliburton,
fighting with Clusterfuck is not good for his
heart. Is not a picture worth a thousand words?
new thread^^^
Check out Harry Reid tonight. We must be proud of this Senator. In a speech at the
Senate tonight he said the following in response to Cheney’s speech to a group of
Washington insiders.
Tonight the Vice President has come out of
his bunker…….
Unfortunately, he brought his bunker
mentality with him. He’s repeating the
same tired attacks……..
The White House needs to understand that
deceiving the American people is what got
them into trouble. Now is the time to come
clean, not to continue the pattern of deceit.
So again, I ask Vice President Cheney to
to make himself available and answer
the American people’s questions.
If he has time to talk to DC insiders…oil
‘ executives…..and a discredited felon Ahmad
Chalabi-who is under investigation for
giving this nation’s most sensitive secrets
to Iran, he has time to answer the
questions of the American people.
The Vice President needs to stop stone-
walling and HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE.
Just wait till Clusterfuck comes back home.
Good old Harry will give em hell.
The Dem’s smell blood. These deviant Republican politicians are in big trouble. Roy Blount who took over for DeLay is now being investigated for receiving Texas campaign
money given to him by DeLay. If I was a
surgeon I would get pretty tired cutting out
all this stinking gangrene of the Republicans.
Ms K8: Sorry to be off topic…. but ORGANIC GERMANIUM… would that help prostate cancer that has metastasized to the hip?
Mrs. K8-
Hoping you’re still reading, bec. I wanted to add one more thing- if you decide to look into JSJ, consider that different practioners may have slightly different approaches/ vibes. So, if you do try it, and find the first experience off-putting, look for another JSJ person. There is a method to it, but from my experience, there also has to be a good match. Same as docs., same as shrinks (I assume).
I just watched the video of Blitzer interviewing Downie over on C&L. It’s a little scary to me that only the threat of a subpoena brought this information out of Woodward. I somewhat get the notion of not revealing sources, but I just don’t buy it in this case, and think Woodward was incredibly slimy about this whole thing. Downie was saying that even if he had known about it, they wouldn’t have reported on it, because of the lack of a release, in spite of their committment to “journalism” and their readers. How is it that they don’t take this seriously, that they would not see the importance of this in terms of national security and obstruction of justice? I know this has all been said before and I sound like a hopeless Polyanna, but I guess I just have to write it to believe it, y’know? And now, we have the ultimate slimeball, the third source, sitting back, thinking he’s protected. And for now, I guess that’s true. The ball is in Fitz’ court, and unless he indicts this person, Woodward doesn’t have to tell us, does he?
Boy, this sure makes whoever it is look more guilty and cheap, and I agree that it’s someone high up, because of who Woodward is.
I”m so angry I can’t see straight.
the woodward aspect is more sinister and troubling. There’s something big right under the surface.
Monk — as usual, you’ve thought about this more deeply than my original quick take on your question. Proves my point about what you bring to this new graphics genre.
Sorry I have no further suggestion. I’m a word-oriented person, definitely not a good one to think about creative graphical concepts. [I LOVE what graphical commentary can do, it’s just not at all my talent. Will remain to cheer from the sidelines, though.]
Great post from HuffPo puts today’s news in perspective…
“Only a nut would believe that the members of WHIG (White House Iraq Group), a semi-secret organization, DID NOT conspire to all leak the same info at the same time to different reporters, since this is exactly what they did. All conspiracies aren’t nut-case conspiracies.
Rove leaked to Novak.
Libby leaked to Judy Miller
Hadley leaked to Woodward
Libby leaked to Tim Russert
Rove leaked to Matt Cooper
Pretty soon it will come out that Cheney ordered each member of WHIG to pick two reporters to leak to. The plan was that they could say that “everyone” knew and that it was “common knowledge.” Where have you heard that before?

Shez –
WOOO HOOO! Congrats! I hoped you would report back on developments in your local scene, but your success is wilder than anything I imagined!
A 90 minute personal phone call from the candidate? Wow, just wow.
And what a good example you provided at your meeting by bringing some good “meat” to chew on!
You inspire us.
Yes, I did see Billmon’s graphic and it successfully creeped me out. blech.
Yes, I recall your comment in the early days of my blog about the political cartoon aspect and I agree. I apologize that the original comments got deleted when I converted over to the superior (?) haloscan comment system. :(
As far as the Judy Miller = Woodward angle, I’m not so sure I want to compare them. Judy deserves her own spot in hell. However, the woodward aspect is more sinister and troubling. There’s something big right under the surface. Judy always struck me as a lap cat jumping from lap to lap looking for the best stroker. Woodward seems to be another power horse under the reins of this corrupt administration.
-Monk
Me, congrats on your letter from the DNC! Very impressive, your relentlessness and infinite wisdom deserves it.
I myself received a personal phone call yesterday afternoon from the person running for Congress in our district that hosted the DNC Kickoff meeting last night, in response to the email comments I made when I signed up. He talked to me for 90 minutes.
Before I left for it I ran off a few things to put in a folder to bring, like: Harry Reid’s YEAR -END REVIEW AND OUTLOOK FOR 2006 that he released on Nov 14, a couple of things from here on Habaes Corpus [with FDL url of course] and also a couple of things I saved from the Comments here [characteristics of a fascist regime, and Bush’s ‘resume’]. I was the only person to show up with something extra. ;)
Met a nice local couple from Democratic Underground site. Interesting evening, I enjoyed it.
Monk –
Did you see billmon’s latest photoshopping contribution? On his website, entitled “Judy Woodward.”
Maybe there are some more pointed graphics possibilites to be mined using photos of Judy, taking this line of attack even further.
As I’ve stated on your blog (although the comment seemed to disappear?), the way you use photos/graphics constitutes a new genre of “political cartoon.” Many others use their photo-shopping talents to simply poke fun at characters (”oh, look, it’s Karl in a skirt!”) — but your talents are used to pack a serious editorial punch.
Love your work.
Here here, mrs. K8.
Here here.

My thanks to all the supportive people here, already too numerous to cite.
I came to FDL for the most excellent, well-written threads, and stayed for the community of very well informed (and patriotic!) posters, with their consistently thought-provoking comments. Little did I know when I first showed up, what a terrific band of warm, caring human beings I would find!
Hands down, this is my favorite web location, and if I have to ration internet time, this place is the one website which will remain a non-negotiable necessity. No hard-fighting anti-fascist could hope for a better bunch of compatriates. :-)
Mrs. K8 6:22 pm,
Thanks for the info. I will def. check it out. BTW, I realized that I hadn’t answered all of your questions. But, one answer– at the time I started going for JSJ treatments, I was at the point where I couldn’t use the “mouse” bec. of persistent elbow pain. Went away during treatment, and has never returned. If you are interested in finding a practitioner in your area, I encourage you to call the folks at JSJ inc. (link I gave) for info. David Burmeister answered the phone himself when I phoned a few years ago, and was very helpful.
I’ve been wondering where Mrs. K8 has been. Good to see you again.
FDL’ers, I’m looking for more ideas for woodward graphics.
I’ve got one up and I really like it, but I’m looking for something more punchy.

Thanks, Valley Girl, for responding! Will look into it.
Speaking of ovarian cancer (and other cancers), my last orthopedic surgeon (the first one we found here in AZ who was extremely competent) told us all about ORGANIC GERMANIUM.
This very successful orthopod surgeon recently retired to spend more time in research on life-saving supplements. While looking for supps to help with bone healing, he studied up on Japanese research on org. germanium as a treatment for cancer, and became deeply convinced of its effectiveness.
One day he came home from a hard day at the operating table, and found the electrician he’d hired to do work at his house in his kitchen, dissolved in tears.
Told the doc his wife had Stage 3 (or is it Stage 4? — whichever one is supposed to mean an inescapable death sentence) ovarian cancer. Doc told electrician — put her on a program of high doses of organic germanium at once!
Her cancer is now gone, no one can find it.
Mr. K8, our pupster, and I all take preventive doses of organic germanium now.
[To others: Sorry for being so off topic, just want readers/lurkers here to think about reading up on organic germanium. Research on other (esp. degenerative) diseases also looks promising. Will now try to shut up about medical topics…sorry…slowly backing away, looking sheepish…]

Any new theories as to what Fitz has got–or when he will strike next?
RE: avoiding the oil economy.
I mostly walk or use public transportation, but I have been ruthless in my choices – in ways that people with families or those living in suburban areas simply can’t.
I lived – until my recent adventures in unemployment – within walking distance of work. I can walk to most services – local pharmacy, grocery store, wine store, nice bakery, book store etc. I probably pay more for products and services and have fewer choices than if I could shop around more, but I’m prepared to live with that.
Extra bonus – the world is a safer place without me behind the wheel of a car.
Most cities are simply not set up for most people to live this way – big box stores where you take your life in your hands walking across the parking lot, poor public transportation in many suburbs, lack of local services, poor schools in downtown areas, etc.
Cities are organized based on the assumption that everyone has a vehicle.
Tell your senators and your reps… Dictators wrote the patriot act… It does not catch terrorists, Americans are not terrorists.
Kill it completely, no watered down act… Kill it.
LOL colleen yes SNL, so Mrs. K8, the short post said in perfect timing to the discussion:
:::knock on Oval Office door:::
“candygram”
(signed) Land Shark
We spewed, it was great. I was trying to watch Olbermann and couldn’t go look for it for you. ;)
On Countdown he made a good point of highlighting what Fitz said, “..that Libby was the first person known to have told reporters…”, and that gives him wiggle room, regardless of Libby and lawyers trying to say it now makes their case or that Fitz was mistaken. He reiterated it still comes down to the lies not the leak at this point in time.
They also finally reported a “source” has mentioned Hadley being Woodward’s 3rd source, unlike Tweety whom is still obsessing on Cheney in the hour before.
Thanks, zennurse, for the link above to this exasperating article:
Cheney says war critics ‘dishonest, reprehensible’
Article should be entitled:
“Cheney: Pot, Kettle, Blacker Than the Blackest Black Imaginable”
This quote in the piece is choice:
“The president and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone — but we’re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history,” said Cheney…
Memory problems? Backbone? Rewriting history?
Tell us, Mr. Vice President Who Denies What He Says Five Minutes After He Says It & Then Goes Back Hiding in His Bunker, tell us all about these topics. We find you convincing, sure we do.
Mrs. K8 – you so cool, all best to you and the Mr.
Lord this man is evil. And clearly not a believer in democracty…
http://www.alertnet.org/thenew…..406810.htm
“WASHINGTON, Nov 16 (Reuters) – In the sharpest White House attack yet on critics of the Iraq war, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday accusations that the Bush administration manipulated intelligence to justify the war were a “dishonest and reprehensible” political ploy.
Cheney called Democrats “opportunists” who were peddling “cynical and pernicious falsehoods” to gain political advantage while U.S. soldiers died in Iraq.
The comments were the latest salvo in an aggressive White House counterattack on war critics, launched as Democrats step up their criticism of the war and polls show declining public support for the conflict…”
(continued)
henrifier-
If only it was that simple millions of people across this country would stop driving tomorrow if they could. If I didn’t have to drop my kids off at school, go to work,go grocery shopping, pick my kids up after work, blah, blah, blah, I wouldn’t drive at all. I’d be on my bike, or better yet, walking everywhere.
No, what this country requires to wean itself from “big oil” is a structural change to our infrastructure. Everything we’ve built for the past 100 years has been designed to encourage the “car on highway” mode of transportation. That structural change will take generations, extraordinary political will, and billions of dollars.
Alternative fuels, conservation, and hybrid cars are wonderful goals, but those technologies just buy us time. The key really is how we live our lives and structure our society. The oil economy IS coming to an end, and rather violently, I might add (two oil wars barely a decade apart with more to come).
If you’re really interested in this subject go to Jim Kunstler’s blog, “Clusterfuck Nation.” Great information and commentary.
Mrs. K8 5:35 pm:
I went to a JSJ practioner to deal with job stress and burnout. I learned about her from a friend who had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My friend described the experience of JSJ treatments to me, and I was intrigued by many aspects of it. In her case, with the help of this JSJ practitioner, her surgery went incredibly well and she was able to deal with the chemo in positive way. She was very fortunate that the ovarian cancer was caught early, also. I’m a neuroscientist, FWIW.

Ach so! Thanks for enlightening the culturally un-hip (moi!).
As to College Repubs (and the rest of the whole g.d. right-wing) — They CANNOT argue on the issues, for on any of the issues, they FAIL.
I said this many years ago: why does the Republican Party want to make it HARDER for people to vote — this is back when they were opposing so-called “motor voter” registration, registering when getting a driver’s license — ?
That’s how we registered in AZ when we moved here.
Any party which seeks to make democratic participation more difficult has lost the argument about policies before it’s begun — they are bankrupt, not just morally, but in terms of policies that stand up to scrutiny in the light of day.
Think Progress has created a great video on the case:

-landshark: Old Sat Night Live bit. It was during the Jaws frenzy.
Doorbell rings, Bill Murry says, “Who’s there?”
Very high and fast on the other side of door:: “Candygram”

I think. Probably screwed the punchline.
Valley Girl –
Yes, you are right, we’re in AZ. I will certainly look at your links carefully, with an open mind. My goal of rehab is always primary in my mind — and it doesn’t matter HOW I get there.
May I ask 2 questions, if they’re not too nosy?
1) What is your personal experience with JSJ? (Recovery from injuries? — not looking to get too personal here, just a general idea — how long was your course of treatment, or is it ongoing?)
2) What field of science do you pursue? (Just for context here).
Thanks very much for the links!

Torture Crimes to be Investigated Overseas
Sorry for the repost, but I put this in the post below and would like an answer if possible.
——————————————-
I’ve posted elsewhere that several of the portions of 793 could be charged against Libby.
Also I would like too know if anyone who was passed Classified Information and later found out it was classified and failed to report it too the proper authorities was not also guilty of Espionage. After all they would then be a conspirator in a cover up pertaining to National Security which would be harmful to the United States during a time of War.
Does this not call for the Death Penalty for Treason against ones Country during a time of War? I think it does.
Could someone here explain this too me and anyone else who’s interested in knowing the law under the Espionage Act.
George A | 11.16.05 – 5:15 pm | #
Mrs. K., prayers for you and your hubby. I so much enjoy your comments. Hope you get healthy healthy and good things come your way. And post whenever you can.
Did the outing of Plame have more to do with protecting the war reasoning or shutting down the work of Brewster Jennings? Did this outing serve two purposes and please both Bush and Cheney?
Can’t possibly keep up with Me but I did fire off a very good letter to Froomkin at the Post about Woodward. Actually, I cut and pasted something from some comment… used it as an outline of thoughts, deleted some stuff, added some stuff… and wa la…. it was pretty darn good.
Keep the pressure up. Love the commenters at FDL. Don’t comment that much myself – I feel outclassed here. But love you all.

I got email from the Main Dem Party HQ…
Dear YOU (was Me ;),
From a meeting powered by a generator in New Orleans to meetings by Democrats Abroad in twenty foreign countries, last night Democrats from around the world gathered together in more than 1,000 communities to organize for the 2006 elections and beyond.
I hope you understand how unprecedented these meeting were — elections are still one year away and already we have begun the work of building what will be the largest mobilization of Democrats in our party’s history.
Governor Dean discussed our organizing strategy and took questions with tens of thousands of Democrats on the line. If you attended one of the meetings you know how special this moment was.
If you couldn’t attend an National Organizing Kickoff meeting, you can see pictures and read stories from those who attended meetings by visiting:
http://www.democrats.org/organizingkickoff
Keep coming back to that link — we are adding more photos to the slide show as they come in. On that page you’ll be able find stories from hosts and attendees both during the run-up and after the events.
Last night was the beginning of something big — thank you for being a part of this historic effort to organize and build a party that will fight for every vote, in every state, in every election.
Thank you,
Jason Leon

There’s lots more. Don’t have time to look them up.
Mrs. K8-
All good thoughts to you and Mr. K8.
I’m not sure I’m remembering this correctly but are you in AZ? If so you should check out these links, or even if not, about Jin shin jyustu. I have been to a JSJ therapist and the postitive outcome was quite amazing, fascinating. I’m a scientist, and only a tinfoil-hatter when it comes to politics, BushCo and 9-11. Meaning, I hope you don’t dismiss the info without checking it out. The book (linked) makes more sense after actual therapy. And, JSJ is not an either/or kinda thing…

zennurse… OK, I read the Cheney link and have to chuckle. Fitz must have started a smoking hot crude oil fire in his undies…
Now… I wrote a letter about this, before Cheney spoke. It went out at about 11:00 am this morning:

Bush Freed Iraq?
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MSNBC) – Conditions — including the use of torture — at a secret Baghdad detention facility were so “horrific” that some of the scores of men held there “looked like Holocaust survivors” when they were found, NBC News has learned.
Reporting on the developing story from Baghdad, NBC News correspondent Mike Boettcher on Wednesday said sources close to the investigation of the facility told him that photos of the detainees show “people covered in welts from torture. They show torture devices. They show men so emaciated they look like Holocaust survivors.”
IraqÂ’s deputy minister of the interior, in whose headquarters building the secret prison was found by U.S. forces Sunday, told Boettcher that “he had never seen anything like this in his life.” …
Now Bush is verbally attacking Americans, are we next???
Mrs. K8 – Sounds as if you have a good man by your side.
This may qualify as the understatement of the year, especially since is also very understanding when I go through *super-cranky* spells!
Not that he’s not human, with his own faults. But they pale in comparison with what his good heart is capable of.
(Back on topic:) I’d be very happy to tell any single one of these amoral/immoral thugs what constitutes REAL loyalty.
Mrs. K8- I would gladly come and zennurse you both, but I will instead send light toward your darkness. I know about pain myself and I’m sure Mr. K8 is aging from worry, not chores.
*HUGS* for Mrs. K8
Everyone loves to complain about “Big Oil”, but why is oil so big? Because you all drive too much. Ride a bike, the planet will love you for it.
After all, oil consumption is a much bigger problem than oil production.
Cheney describes himself:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200…..NlYwM3MTY-
Mrs. K8 – Sounds as if you have a good man by your side. Consider this a whole passel of good e-vibes, directed to you both.
Shez –
Forgot to mention — I actually think that what the thugs-in-training are doing to prepare for the future should be illegal. There have been multiple reports indicating that folks are taught how to rig college elections! That they are taught they should never, ever be moderate in their stated opinions, and that they need to exercise rigorous discipline to keep their OWN members in line — people who deviate from the ideology by a single whit are to be SHUNNED by their ideological “comrades.”
Honestly, it scares me to think that these 21st century Maoists/Stalinists (pick your poisonous, ruthless ideology for comparison) are going to be the future subversive destroyers of Constitutional principles. The fight for us will have to go on for a very long time.
Shez –
OK, now you’ve piqued my curiosity. Who’s the “land shark”?? Do I do a string search for that handle? Which thread? Just count downward by three, and I’m there?
Don’t wanna miss the laugh of the day. Sure could use one.
…the “Young Republicans” and “College Republicans” outfits — and how they hold seminars and training sessions on how to pull dirty tricks.
Welcome back Mrs K8, I’m trying to catch up here myself. The laugh of the day so far was when the Land Shark made a visit about 3 threads down. *grinz*
As for what you astutely said above (you’re always astute), I swear these little pricks need to have the words “Al Qaeda Lite” or some such always linked to them. I don’t see much difference.
Just as the word “Republican” needs to be prefaced and constantly reinforced when using Culture of Corruption, GOP, WHIG, and any member of all of them, etc.
Hey guys! [zennurse, TRex, Me, etc.]
You sure know how to make a girl feel welcome.
Mr. K8 and I are in the middle of fighting a corporation that’s ripping us off for a good chunk of change. As both of us are mild-mannered people, we’re having a tough time emotionally. [Actually, in my case, I go from being timid to suddenly flipping and being a fire-breathing dragon, yelling at people over the phone. This is not exactly useful — either to our ultimate success in the battle or to my BP.]
In addition to that, I have some minor health problems this week (nothing serious, just annoyances that put me under the weather and eat up my time, coping with symptoms). And at the same time, I have to try to keep up with a rigorous physical therapy program if I ever hope to regain the full ability to walk without assistance and regain the physical stamina and energy I once had. SOMEDAY I hope to go back to work, or at least to have a full work schedule from home — but right now I’m just trying to be strong enough to help with chores around the house. I have a husband who’s been aging at a rapid clip since my injuries, as he’s been required to work overtime at his job, do all the shopping and other errands, and to do way too many other tasks around the house. I want to lift as many burdens as possible from his shoulders, as soon as possible.
We moved into our new abode around 2 years ago, and still haven’t unpacked lots of stuff, still haven’t fixed the place to our liking, etc.
Please understand — I’m not whining here, just wanting to explain why you may see me one minute (while I’m resting at the desk and furiously trying to catch up w/ everything here), and then I may suddenly disappear for a bit. And for a while it’s going to be unpredictable from day to day how much energy I can put where. Suddenly high pain levels also interfere with desired energy levels!
But my deep thanks go to all of you who are thinking of me — from those of you who believe in prayer, will you put in a good word for me and Mr. K8? And for those of you who do not believe in prayer — please send along any sort of “good vibes” you care to, from time to time.
Hugs to you all! We’re gonna get our country back, after all! Nothing less will satisfy…
Great article by William Greider comparing Bush to Louis XV and providing brilliant insights regarding the sad demise of the MSM.
http://www.alternet.org/mediaculture/27790/
(snip)
“Heroic truth-tellers in the Watergate saga, the established media are now in disrepute, scandalized by unreliable “news” and over-intimate attachments to powerful court insiders. The major media stood too close to the throne, deferred too eagerly to the king’s twisted version of reality and his lust for war. The institutions of “news” failed democracy on monumental matters. In fact, the contemporary system looks a lot more like the ancien régime than its practitioners realize. Control is top-down and centralized. Information is shaped (and tainted) by the proximity of leading news-gatherers to the royal court and by their great distance from people and ordinary experience.”
(snip)
“The elite press, like any narcissistic politician, tells a heart-warming myth about itself. Reporters, it is said, dig out the hard facts to share with the people by locating anonymous truth-tellers inside government. They then protect these sources from retaliation by refusing to name them, even at the cost of going to prison. That story line was utterly smashed by this scandal. Reporters were prepared to go to jail to protect sources who were not exactly whistleblowers cowering in anonymity. They were Libby and Karl Rove — the king’s own counselors at the pinnacle of government. They were the same guys who collaborated on the bloodiest political deception of the Bush presidency: the lies that took the country into war.”
- He goes on to discuss the importance of blogs.
And emails and telephone calls and faxes…
Mrs. K8,
Wonderful ta have ya back…but it might not be healthy for ya taday, yer bloodpressure is gunna skyrocket.
Me, you’re turning us all inot letter-writing machines.
We are fighting a battle for our country and our freedom. We are the front line patriots standing up to a corrupt Republican political propaganda machine.
The truth is lethal. Deadly to this machine. It can be defeated with the LIBERAL APPLICATION of truth and sanity.
But it will take all of us, we all have to participate, because the strength is in numbers.
We will win, we are winning… Because the truth is on our side, and the truth will set us free.
Write letters, lots of them.
From what I can tell from the links above, Brewster Jennings was “embedded” with ARAMCO. Plame’s operation was simply monitoring what went on within ARAMCO, it didn’t even need to be on to something for BushCo to destroy her network. Remember, these guys love secrecy. And if they were up to something, anything, they don’t need the fucking CIA involved.
So, blow Plame’s cover. They would have done it, anyway, but they would have done it quetly. But then Joe Wilson came along and fucked everything up. I know, we’ll just call it political payback!
But that story doesn’t make sense. Or as Fitz would say, “that talking point won’t fly.” No, Bush and Cheney had bigger plans. Billions of dollars is a pretty enticing motive. Even for treason.
Okay, I’m a conspiracy nut. It’s all circumstantial. Who’d ever believe anything so evil?
This ARAMCO info is nowhere in MSM, must….write….letters….now…
Me, you’re turning us all inot letter-writing machines.
Mrs. K8, hoping things are ok with you, glad to “hear”you again. Missed your great comments during the WaPo revelations.
Mrs. K8! Welcome back. I’m thread-hopping, so I don’t know if anyone has greeted you properly. Careful with the rage levels. It can really mess with you, lower your immune response.
You know, we were all bracing for an onslaught of trolls a couple days ago and so far, so good. Maybe they came and looked at the overall level of erudition and intelligence here and realized that they were thoroughly outclassed.
It’s like somebody said (jwcole?), “I knew Plamegate was too complicated for Sean Hannity to understand.” after Hannity alleged that Joe Wilson was a French double agent or some such happy crap. Maybe the same could be said for the Free-Range Troll population.
A thread up at Kos:
The Woodward Bombshell is a Disaster for the White House
Me,
What you say about Aramco fits perfectly with this
http://p216.ezboard.com/frigor…..1705.topic
This is the Pincus story from October 2003 that led Woodward to pass his remark.
It is so hot that the WaPo has removed the text from their website! See for yourself.

Me,
Thanks, I will read it.
marky – I have one of the best collections of factual oil information I have seen anywhere. Enough to keep a person busy for an hour or two learning the subject:
http://fusioner.proboards60.co…..1122965368
Mrs. K8: hit the mailing list with a letter, work the whole list… You will feel better afterwards. It helps me vent.
Me,
It’s perfectly obvious to an intelligent person that Saudi oil reserves are overstated. Why?
Because at least one major oil company (I think two actually)
have gotten caught overstating their reserves in the last two years, and both cases involved Saudi Arabia.
Now, if there is plenty of oil, there is no need for Shell or whoever to make fraudulent claims; the only reasonable inference from these cases is that they cannot find the new oil to replace what they pumped out the previous year.
Furthermore, there are numerous articles claiming that lifetime output from Saudi wells is being harmed because of improper, hasty drilling now.
Do republican’s have to attend a sleazeball camp of corruption and dishonesty before they are selected to be elected to office.
In a word: YES! It was about a month ago that I read articles at dKos and elsewhere about the “Young Republicans” and “College Republicans” outfits — and how they hold seminars and training sessions on how to pull dirty tricks. Like a traveling group of missionaries from the “Donald Segretti Institute on Political Skulduggery” or the “Lee Atwater School of Vicious Chicanery.”
I only scanned the information because it made me so sick to my stomach.
Just like the post-Katrina stories about the screwing of the poor get my BP shooting through the ceiling.
These levels of fury and nausea are not good for anyone’s health.
From a shining city upon a hill to a grimy torture chamber in an undisclosed location.

Shamelessly off topic again, but I’m really enjoying catching up ….
People Mag (Yeah, I know, ugh) included Fitz in their runner ups to Sexiest Man of the Year. Finally, something redeeming about that rag.
Brewster Jennings actually sold dual-use tech. They used export laws to investigate the buyers. And they sold things like spark gap triggers to legit users. They also tracked down and investigated non-legit users.
I am not clear on the details on the ARAMCO aspect, but they had employees who were contracted to ARAMCO and were working into the corporate structure. The idea behind that is, the Sauds keep all their oil field data classifed. It is believed that the Sauds estimates of proven reserves are much lower than stated, and there is documentation available to support that. But the DOE keeps telling us that the Sauds have more oil than they know what to do with… So don’t worry about oil conservation, global warming, etc… And it’s just gonna fuck us big time in the long run, and the whole time our pockets will be picked.
me:
Do you have anything more specific on what
Valerie Plame as closing in on with
Brewster Jennings? I read some where it might
of been with dual-use technology being bought
and sold. Is Halliburton involved with DU tech?
Yeah Oilgate will take you right to Cheney’s secret bank accounts.
That’s why it was leaked… But it needs an independant prosecutor… I would nominate Fitz in your letter ;)
lgf: If nobody else did, I second the motion!!!
OILGATE – ARAMCO – NIGER URANIUM – WHIG – $$$$

Didn’t Deep Throat say “follow the money?”

Do republican’s have to attend a sleazeball camp of corruption and dishonesty before they are selected to be elected to office. Damn they just continue to keep being caught with thier hands in the cookie jars. Murkowski’s were simply looking to cash in on the cash cow that started producing when the repub finally gained all the power.
That’s sourced.
I know Raw Story is reporting that Hadley was Woodward’s source, but Woody’s source for his books was Bush himself. Is it too crazy, paranoid, tinfoil hatted, to suppose that Bush “casually” mentioned that Wilson’s wife was a CIA operative?
Think about it…the President himself outed a covert CIA operative.
How fucked up is this country right now?
Me,
You said that Brewster-Jennings was closing in on Aramco.
Is that from one of your sources, or do you have a link?
Thanks
I would nominate this blog site for a Pulitzer
prize in journalism. The MSM has been brain
dead for a long time. We know they have been
terribly compromised. This blog puts to shame
the behavior of so many MSM journalists. Perhaps they are reading this site to reclaim
their idealism and professional ethics.
We must thank Fitzgerald for going after those
journalists to testify that truly worked for the administration and helped spread their
propaganda. It goes on still to this day. The
real journalism is going on here in Blogsphere.
These blogs are the internet lightning jolts
keeping this a democracy where truth can speak to power and authority can be questioned and held to account. It is truly
a Commons for the National and World Village
to meet and talk and become politically involved.
Peter Hart on commom dreams website has
written an insightful article titled Journalists
Avoiding the Real Libby Story.
ReddHedd,
could you check this out re: Woodward’s sources?
http://www.editorandpublisher……1001523544
—Downie said the paper eventually asked the source — who Woodward later revealed was one of three people about whom he has now testified — to lift the confidentiality agreement, but that person declined. Since then, Libby and White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card have given permission for their identities as two of the sources to be disclosed, but the main source for Plame’s identity has not.—
Had Libby been identified elsewhere as one of the three?
I am serious about sending letter on the oil fix… Major goop crime scam… And Brewster Jennings was infiltrating ARAMCO ;)

WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK!!!
In this morning’s Washington Post we discover that oil industry executives had met secretly with Republican Vice President Richard Cheney’s Energy Task Force in 2001. These same companies appeared in front of Congress recently to answer questions to a Republican controlled Senate committee concerning what appears to be artificially inflated petroleum prices.
Republican Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) of the Senate investigating committee refused to put these executives under oath despite repeated requests by Democrats on the committee. Oil executives from the nations largest oil companies then denied during questioning that they had any confidential contacts with the Republican administration.
This is a strong indication of political corruption, racketeering, kickbacks, and price fixing and gouging. It has very likely resulted in the fleecing of billions of dollars in cash from the American people. This money can be recovered through an honest and independent (non-Republican) criminal investigation of oil company accounting and pricing practices. Excessive profits could be returned to the American people.
Last week the Republican Congress attempted to pass a new budget bill that severely cuts services for the poorest Americans. This bill was stopped by minority Democrats. Under this budget proposal the Republicans attempted to make large cuts in food stamps, medicade, education spending and student loans.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could find someone honest in our government that could help Americans recover our stolen money from big oil, where it could then be used to help balance our budget, support our needy, and further our education goals?
We are talking about many billions of dollars of _OUR_ money. Every driver in America has already paid a very high price for Republican criminal activity. When can we start calling criminals, “criminals”? Republicans are not acting as honest politicians who are helping America.
Thank You,
*****

Imagining Katrina evacuees hanging out by the pool at the Bill Gates compound….
Now that’s something that would earn Dr. Evil his tax breaks…
I sympathize with Monk here, but jeez, can’t we just eliminate the tax break on estates over $5 million and give that to those people?
I say that we let them earn those tax breaks by housing evacuees themselves. And NOT TURN THEM INTO SERVANTS. Just house them.
http://fusioner.proboards60.co…..1131129004
^^^^ Send letters out on the Oilgate story. This sucker is begging for an independant criminal investigation: political corruption, racketeering (RICO city), kickbacks, and price fixing… There are billions of stolen dollars there that can help eduction, student loans, school lunches, medicaid… It’s our money, it’s been stolen… Demand it be returned via criminal investigation recovery.
Hasn’t Bush’s base suffered enough?
How can we possibly ask millionaires and billionaires to give up even a little bit of their tax cuts, just because some Gulf Coast poor folk didn’t win the lucky sperm lottery?
The picture of the Big Oil execs in today’s paper reminded me of the picture of the Big Tobacco execs sitting in the same seats . . . and we know where that went. Here’s hoping.
I sympathize with Monk here, but jeez, can’t we just eliminate the tax break on estates over $5 million and give that to those people?
There was a good story on the Fema payments on today’s Talk of the Nation. Most of the motel residents didn’t know about the Fema deadline until this morning when notices were pushed under their doors. Now they have two weeks (less with Thanksgiving) to find a place to live.
I’m kind of on the fence about this one. What is an exceptable timeframe for those displaced to remain in hotels?
