During a whirlwind tour of DC that includes sit-downs with Condo, Hadley, Big Time and Snow, Ahmed Chalabi probably doesn’t have a moment to steal. But just in case anybody decide he’s way too toxic for a high profile grip’n'grin this political season, Arianna helpfully provides an alternate itinerary. Her first stop:
FBI Headquarters. Chalabi is currently under investigation, suspected of telling the Iranian government that America had broken the code it used for secret communications — an offense the administration said could “get people killedâ€. When this information came to light 17 months ago, Condi Rice promised a criminal investigation of the charges. But close to a year and a half later, the FBI has still not questioned Chalabi. Now seems like a perfect time. Condi can walk him over to the Hoover Building after their meeting and make all the necessary introductions.
Arianna’s tour also includes US Congress (at least the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence), the NYT Washington bureau, and Arlington National Cemetery — it’s always fun to admire your own handiwork, no?

Recall the incident where 13,later 19, intelligence officers were under investigation in Italy? It seemed as if one portion of the Italian governement winked at that, while another faction did not and conducted an investigation. Now there are warrents out for people, who probably assumed they were operating with quite support from their Italian colleagues – The whole thing never added -same with this left hand/ right hand Italian biz with the forgeries.
Anyway – the same thing seems to at work now in our government, which is playing a weird left hand -right hand game with Chalabi, and Bush and Cheney with regard to torture. A policy of mixed signals and intentional errors seems to have been adopted.
OK, reading the Raw Story story above:

I’ll pull back a bit. Maybe it is just extremist with access to weapons of mass destruction.
“Looks as if Kilgore lost ground because of Bush’s help.”
The Emperor has no coat-tails.
Looks as if Kilgore lost ground because of Bush’s help.
Kaine seems headed for a 5% win- He was only up by 3% before Clusterfuck stopped by to help out.
Thanks, Pach. Excellent work!
I’d like to personally thank GW bush for his last minute stop last night to try to help out republican candidate in Va kilgore even though Kilgore didnt really want to be seen with him- that may have just tanked him.
I checked my pockets for a contribution for Scooterboy: 2 dustballs and a broken hair clip. Is that too good and too much for him?
Hey, I just made a $700 profit by selling his book. Thanks, Irving!
AP reporting Corzine and Kaine won
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..ctions_rdp
ME: Yes indeed the wheels are off a the bus…this is the most dangerous time.
Anybody hear any exit polls for CA? (May not mean much, they predict up to 40% of voters will vote absentee, as I did).
CNN is now also projecting a Corzine victory.
The question now becomes: to what degree do these state races reflect national trends/moods/winds? And the spin battle will begin…
…
…
now.
NYT:Libby Establishes a Fund to Help Pay Legal Bills
“But in establishing the fund, Mr. Libby is opening himself to questions. Legal and campaign finance specialists said, he could face scrutiny about whether any financial assistance he might receive from allies of President Bush and Mr. Cheney was going to finance a defense strategy intended in part to minimize harm to the administration.
The situation could also present Mr. Libby’s supporters with a tricky political problem. Many Republicans may be anxious to show financial support for a man whom they believe is being prosecuted for political reasons, campaign finance analysts said, yet may also be wary about the appearance of giving contributions to a man accused of a serious crime.”
Anyone care to pass the hat?
I live in VA, and made gotv calls for the Dem party.
I’m happy.

WOW!!! Get this… RAWSTORY in advance of a NYT Page One Story:
CIA was warned by inspector general that treatment techniques violated international conventions
The goopers are in serious, serious, serious trouble…
To those people out there who think the goops are scammin and plannin nth degree political tricks at this stage in the game… Let me tell you that you are completely deluded. All actions in the goop party at this point in time is equivilent to the effect you get when you shine a search light on a roach hive. Pure chaos, there is _NO PLAN_ and _NO EFFECTIVE RESPONSE_… They have lost control, and it is only going to get worse and worse for them.
ME: The battle has jest now been engaged, this is the last battle of our 145 year old civil war and the outcome is a LONG way from decided and I don’t think it’s gunna be decided at the ballot box…I think we are gunna see the fight play out before November of ‘06 in the courts and it may be decided by how much of the institutional civil service breaks against the fascists. I don’t think that right now, Bush has ANY garrisoned military willin’ ta committ to a coup.
89% of the precincts reporting- Kaine by 5%. Looks like he’s going to make it!
Shez.inMI: Ziegler as Nixon press secretary lied for his Preznit just like McClellan is doing today. Both total liars.
As for Ohio, the governor there, Taft, is a convicted felon, convicted on multiple counts just 3 months ago while in office, and refuses to resign. Maybe he is tutoring Bush? lol
I used to go down to Northern Va a lot and I have some VERY conservative relatives there. Lemme tell ya, losing Virginia is a biggie for Bush.
Thanksgiving wil be quite fun this year!

Report on the CIA General Counsel going to the DoJ on the secret prison leak…
I have to suspect that Cheney was the one who actually leaked the classifed material to people who did not have security clearance. And I can’t imagine charges would stick on a gooper Senator or staffer who went to the press… If they gave up the source of classified information ;)
I think Cheney is in real trouble now.
the horrible thing is that even if someone decent replaces GW as pres one of these days, they may have to deal with Chalabi if he ends up running big chunks of Iraq as the Iranian frontman. that’ll be an irony if all our war criminals who put him up for the job of running Iraq end up taking the fall, while that crook and spy survives and prospers.
AP just called New Jersey for Corzine.
The GOP loves Chalabi because he’s “effective” and they don’t give a crap how people get what they want as long as it’s what the GOP leadership wants.
Torture? Ends justify means.
We will win, battle by battle!
Norskeflamethrower: Will keep you and all informed about the Ohio 4 election reform initiatives on the ballot today. Those Diebold ballot counters are criminal. We need someone like Fitz to investigate them, and Mr. Diebold, who arranged them.
Chalabi is a douchebag. What happened to the big fallout with the pentagon and subsequent arrest warrant issued by Bremer’s Iraq in 2004?
Absolute douchebaggery.
-Monk
Wow Karen, Ziegler is a name I haven’t heard in ages. We lived about 50 miles from D.C. back then.
Scotty also sort of reminds me of our old govenor John Engler, the worst years in Mich to be sure. Odd, but he had a nickname of King John. Our current gov is still trying to clean up his fiscal raping of our Great Lake State.
Bush loses Virginia!!
Bush loses New Jersey!!
next,
Bush indicted; impeached!!
What a fight!!! The war ain’t over… But we’re winning battles :))
If New Jersey comes in as expected, we’re lookin’ a the price a political poker goin’ up tomorrow…I surely hope there is a HUGE movement in Ohio to investigate the Diebolt machines…the results are BIZZARE.
CNN’s calling VA as well.
You are right Bush the liar does lose Va. That jaw will be wiggling more than ever.
BWAAAHHAHAHAHAHA
Relax rwcole, Chris Bowers at MyDD just called the election for Kaine. 9:14PM Eastern
KAINE WINS IN VA!!
(Just off the AP wire.)
Yay!
BUSH LOSES VIRGINIA !
I like the fact that Scotty is being tortured, after all the lies he has spun!!! Keep it up MSM!
Does anybody here remember Nixon’s press secretary, Ron Ziegler? Prior to working for Nixon, his only job was as a guide at Disneyland in CA. Ziegler and McClellan are clones–they even look the same. Ziegler rode away on the plane with his King following Nixon’s resignation. Ziegler lived on about 9 years and died suddenly from a heart attack.
Virginia is being called..
Kaine wins with 80% being reported.
Karen Allen –
NJ is 54/44 in favor or Corzine with 29% reporting.
no animal left behind….har
puzzled | 11.08.05 – 6:01 pm | #
Don’t you mean no animal’s behind left alone?
Fox reports that AP. projects Kaine the winner.
rwcole — what’s interesting is that Kaine’s numeric lead has been basically unchanged since twenty-some percent of districts were reporting. Luckily, it’s probably enough of a lead that he doesn’t really need to expand it to win by an uncontestable margin.
How is New Jersey doing?
74% reporting Kaine by 3.5%
This is goin the wrong way fast.
Thanks, Shez -
I saw a bit of that on MSNBC/Obermann, yeah, he WAS shitty to her. Prick. Getting more testy by the day. And it’s only gonna get worse.
Takin’ my honey shortly to see Clint Holmes tonight. She’s gotta go back to Louisiana in the morning (hurricane cleanup work). Y’all have fun while we’re gone to Harrah’s.
—
73% of precincts Kaine by 3.75%- must have just reported a totally gooper precinct.
At 8:47 pm EST, Kaine leading in VA by 3.71 %
72% reporting Kaine by 3.85%
Scottie’s dad wrote a book claiming that LBJ was behind the JFK assassination
if torture is ok, can someone slap the snot outta Scottie McClellan?
BobbyG- Scotty press clip from today is up at C&L. As usual he is disrespectful to Helen Thomas.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..html#a5765
no animal left behind….har
Scottie should quit immediately- if he values his sanity. Ugly ugly.
rwcole | 11.08.05 – 5:52 pm | #
If McClellan valued his sanity, he would never have taken the job.
Doesn’t it strike anyone that all of this is just a little too weird? Its hard to imagine a degree of incompetence and “in your face”ness necessary to explain:
* the inevitable to be outed misuse of intelligence product
* the perjury in the Wilson case
* the continued espionage in the NSC (really, e-mails forwarded without notification)
* Cheney and Cheney Jr.’s opposition to an anti-torture bill
* Cheney Jr’s belief that the “war against terror” is a war with the legal status that makes legal anything he chooses to do
* the need for the NYT and Scowcroft to go on the record saying a shake-up is necessary
* Chalabi’s visit with impunity
* the Italian misdirection wrt the Niger info
* the history of the aluminum tubes info (Hi Judy)
* the recent disclosure of the early warning on the Atta->Prague dissing
Really, its a bit much.
So, suppose the admin. leaks (which they are starting to do in drips and drabs) that the real reason for the war is that the US needed to position for the coming oil wars. How would America react? The sad part is that I don’t think it would take much “education” for US to largely fall in with the agenda.

I’m gonna send him a postcard saying ‘Dude, it must really suck to be you these days. Condolences.’
Really.

“Ahmed Chalabi probably doesn’t have a moment to steal.”
Find out what hotel he’s staying at and have them check the towels…
Bobby- I don’t recall any such questions- it was actually the ugliest press conference yet. Scottie should quit immediately- if he values his sanity. Ugly ugly.
Did Scottie field/deflect any questions about the scuz Chalabi during today’s WH briefing? I missed it.

and now Olbermann is going to discuss Libby’s literature “about people who love animals a little too much, if you know what I mean”. Sounds like Grade-A Snark coming up for sure…
63% of the precincts- Kaine lead holding at 4.5%
Looking good- but we don’t know which precincts are yet to report. If they’re from southern virginia- we may still be in trouble.
Norskeflamethrower: Good allusion to the last election in Ohio where the Repub Secy of State, Ken Blackwell, was in charge of all voting matters. The Diebold voting machines, owned by a huge Repub supporter, seemed to have mysteriously thrown the Presidential election to Bush. Ohio has 4 voting reform initiatives on the ballot today, but, hey, the ballots are once again registered and counted on Diebold machines.
another of the pervs seems to wearing a Tshirt from the DoDs pitiful Labor Day “Freedom Walk”…
I wonder if they have all read Libby’s “bear-it-all” novel?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..ctions_rdp
Yoohoo is posting updated election results. It looks like the margin is too wide to “fix” but I am still holding my breath.
puzzled- the official State of Virginia website. Pretty good- refreshes every three minutes.
is this world getting weirder or what?!
hey, rwcole…where are you getting the ballot results? on the web somewhere?
holy cow. one of the pervs on Olbermann is in military intelligence
Gravatar “you gotta give the Cheneys and Chalubis this – nobody does chutzpah better.”
Nobody? How about Judy Miller?
marysz
point well taken…Cheney, Chalubi and Miller: the three legged stool of chutzpah!
Norske:
I don’t know the details re: VA. I would check into it more, but I have to get somewhere. I briefly checked over at Bradblog, which has a big focus on election issues. There are stories up about voting problems in VA, CA and…gee… OHIO. Maybe one of the commenters over there will mention some history re: VA. http://www.bradblog.com/
-
56% of precincts- 4.5% lead for Kaine.
48% of precincts reporting- 5 point lead for Kaine.
Don’t know about the voting machines.
I watch guys posting golf scores all the time on a touch screen- and there is a tendancy to miss the button- particularly for people much taller or shorter than the screen is set up for.
Going back to a previous subject:
I’m not so sure about the notion that Bill Frist sent off his letter today knowing that it would quickly come out that the leaker was a GOP member. The suggestions that IÂ’ve seen along these lines are that he did it as damage control, or as a way of keeping his fellow Republicans in line.
IÂ’m a bit skeptical, because no matter how you slice it, this hurts Frist, and badly. He looks absolutely inept right now, and fairly powerless to boot. If his goal was to keep his troops in line, so to speak, I think that the last thing he would do is to make it so abundantly clear that he has no control over his own party.
If damage control is what he wanted, the best tactic would almost certainly have been to keep quiet — Democrats, after all, have bigger fish to fry at the moment, and likely feel like the American people deserve to know if their government is operating gulags. If Frist had kept his mouth shut, discussions of who leaked the prison story would have been confined to redstate.org
My suspicion is that Frist just didnÂ’t think Trent Lott had it in him to turn the screws on members of his own party.
Re: Valley Girl 5:17 PM
And so it begins… I wonder how good the Warner administration has been in administerin’ elctoral machine in the state. Does Virginia have a Secretary of State responsible for elections and voter registration?
LOL yep puzzled, I’m watching Olbermann too. I can’t quit laughing at these ridiculous series of gaffes today, my old man thinks I’ve gone off the deep end everytime I burst into another fit of giggles and wipe me eyes.
“you gotta give the Cheneys and Chalubis this – nobody does chutzpah better.”
Nobody? How about Judy Miller?
re: Virginia election
this site http://www.raisingkaine.com/blog/
has had continuing updates.
And, a link to news of the “same ‘ol same ‘ol”
——–
Election day voting is going on across the Old Dominion, but everything has not gone smoothly in Roanoke County.
News 7 has received calls from several voters in at least four different precincts who say their votes for Tim Kaine were not recorded or took several attempts to go through.
They contend the electronic touch screens repeatedly indicated they were voting for Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore instead of registering their intended vote for his Democratic opponent Tim Kaine.
State election officials have been told of the problem. They believe if there is a problem, it could have been caused by the way the machines were stored.
———————————
Yeah, right! The voting machines flip votes from Kaine to Kilgore because of the way the machines were STORED????!!!!!!
-
keep pissin them off Scottie…that’ll help your side
Olbermann’s fun tonite
stacy & rwcole–
thanks. So, in effect, the leaker could have been any one of the R senators? I was trying to guess who. While McCain first comes to mind, could it be someone less in the limelight who’s fed up? Olympia Snowe? Susan Collins?
you gotta give the Cheneys and Chalubis this – nobody does chutzpah better
Wilson- Yeah I know- but it’s kind of fun anyway.
Virginia Gov with 30+% counted: 52% to 45% for the good guy
http://www.aei.org/about/filte…..efault.asp
I dunned the AEI (did you?) and told them they were guilty by association with a known criminal… No surprise, I got no replies from my letters, postings or links… But I know they heard me :)
in any reasonably close election, any early reporting without knowing which precincts are reporting, is just wasting your time. I’m a ‘local expert’ in my county politics and it takes real work to make early informed estimates of outcomes.
From the offial Virginia Governmnt site: with 27% vote in
Kaine 51%
Kilgore 42%
rwcole — now it’s Kaine with 4.5% and ~28% reporting. Live election data seems to jump around a lot.
Oops- a flip Kilgore the rat now TRAILING Kaine- now that’s better- by five points. 27& of all precincts reporting.
Ariana is too kind.
I think we need to send him to Iraq, and let the people there decide what to do with him.
Kilgore the rat with a ten point lead in Virginia with 24% of the vote in.
No he wouldn’t Oscar – he’d be a Republican and as you well know, IOKIYAR
If Chalabi was an American he’d be tried for treason. Instead he’s being wined and dined by this corrupt Administration. When is this cozy relationship going to fly above the radar??
